In this study, the non-linear seismic response analysis of the 2F piloti type building model with varying stiffness and strength distribution between soft-weak story(1F) and upper story(2F). The standard model, whose stiffness and strength ratio of the first story is 10% and 100% comparing the upper story respectively, suffered from shear failure of the core wall on the first story. Otherwise, the models with decreased stiffness or strength ratio of the first story damaged more than the standard model and the lack of the strength was more impactful. The model with improved strength contributed to reduce damage on the first story, while the improved stiffness only was not effective on the reduction of the damage level. Overall, in case that the strength and stiffness ratio of the first story increased, damage distributed in balance along the story.

The purpose of this study is to apply performance-based seismic design guideline to high-rise shear wall building. According to PEER TBI Guideline, the building is evaluated whether it satisfies the performance objectives which is to be capable of elastic response under Service Level shaking having a return period of 43years and to withstand Maximum Considered Earthquake shaking with prevention collapse.

With the increase in the frequency of the seismic activity in the territory of Korean Peninsula, the demand for seismic performance evaluation of existing buildings has appeared as well. In this research, a public building built in 1970s is evaluated by the Korea Infrastructure Safety Corporation guideline. As a result, this existing public building is evaluated to satisfy the life safety (LS) and the collapse prevention(CP) performance level that the KBC2009 demands for.

Steel moment-resisting frames are susceptible to large lateral displacements during severe earthquakes. However, frequent damage to concentrically braced frames in past earthquakes, such as the 1994 Northridge earthquakes, has raised concerns about the ultimate deformation capacity of this class of structure. Also, there is no way to accurately predict the behavior of the brace member in the event of earthquakes. Therefore, the objective of this study is to compare the performance of chevron braced frames when they are used in the upgrade of deficient RC frames.

The concrete frames are deteriorated by the corrosion of reinforcement bars. To consider the corrosion effect on the seismic performance of concrete frames, the probabilistic approach method such as the Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) is utilized. However, MCS has a weakness that a lot of computation time is required. In this study, the evaluation method for the seismic performance of chloride-corroded reinforced concrete moment frames using multi-cores is presented to reduce the computation time.

This paper is developed the viscoelastic dumpers whose multilayer system absorbs weight transmitted to framed structure sliding down along specific layer elements. Experiments with and without viscoelastic dumpers were carried out. According to the results, I could confirm that interstory drift ratio of steel frame structure has effectively decreased on both 1st and 2nd floor compared to that of before.

In this study, seismic isolation technology to the stainless steel warm integrated water tank structure is suggested and isolation effects on response reduction are studied for the proposed seismic isolation technology. A seismic isolation system is installed on the base of the stainless steel warm integrated water tank. Analysis result, the earthquake loading is greatly reduced and the accelerations of superstructure are greatly reduced.

Generally, Seismic design has not been applied for the existing('now-using' means) railway tunnel. therefore, In this case study, We introduce a case of seismic performance evaluation for tunnels. It is evaluated by comparing capacity with demand for tunnel linings.

The objective of this study is to understand the flexural reinforcement effects of RC slab reinforced with HFRP plate. To this end, an experiment was conducted by fabricated five RC slabs with the variables such as the number of anchors, epoxy injection amount and position. The Strength formula calculation on the specimens, was calculated to apply the ACI 440.2R-08(10.2.10). The results of this study, the stiffness, strength and structural performance of reinforced specimens are appeared very high compared with non-reinforced specimen, so the flexural reinforcement effects were very good. And the flexural reinforcement effects depending on the number of anchors and epoxy injection method was confirmed to differ greatly. Additionally, it is possible to predict the required number of anchors to the structure through the strength formula calculation.

Highway construction to the reinforced earth retaining wall which is under constant traffic load there is a possibility of generating the displacement at the top. In this study, it was conducted determine how to repair reinforcement method through examination of cause and stability analysis when occurs the displacement of reinforced earth retaining wall.

When prestressing tendons are placed with non-equal prestressing forces, restoring forces(torsional moment and bimoment) are occurred. Restoring forces was derived based on the theorem of virtual work for the purpose of controlling the torsional rotation. Numerical analysis was carried out on the existing double-T beam to clarify that the torsional rotation could be controlled by restoring forces.

This paper presents a new strengthening method for underground RC box structures against seismic loads. Numerical results confirmed that the proposed pre-flexed member system can enhance the seismic capacity of the underground RC box structures.

This paper presents the definition of bridge life and the end-of-life criterion of bridge for bridge maintenance purpose. Bridge life can refer to the period of time in which the bridge meets all desired levels of its functions maintained by maintenances. The end-of-life criterion of bridge can defined when a damage score of an entire bridge reach 0.64, the bridge is assumed to be end of life.

This research is an experimental study attempting to use MR-dampers to control the complex behavior of multi-span bridge structures due to external loads such as seismic loads. For the purposes of this study, the model of components in each structure is identified, and then based on the results, a simplified system of the structure is derived. The performance of MR-dampers for complex behavior control is evaluated separately, according to the self-performance of MR-dampers and according to the performance based on applications of control algorithms. Based on the simplified system, Lyapunov control algorithm and Clipped-optimal control algorithm are applied. As a result, MR-damper is proven to be effective in the complex behavior control of multi-span bridge structures.

In this study, some items assumed to evaluate a Load Carrying Capacity of unknown properties bridge. The 1st, non-reinforced concrete slab 2nd, pre-cast slab 3rd, non-composite bridge. The reason why its assumed like these is to calculate the bridge on critical condition. The Load Carrying Capacity is calculated using WSR(working stress rating) method.

In this study, the crack detecting system with digital image processing techniques based on the mathematical morphology method was developed to detect cracks in concrete structures. In the developed system, the image combining technique of reconstructing multiple images as an entire single image considering efficient management of analysis results was applied as an additional module.

the government and the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea enacted and proclaimed the 'Special Act on the Safety Control of Public Structures' (hereinafter referred to as the 'Special Act') through the legislation process by Assembly members on January 5, 1995, in order to prevent disasters and calamities through facility safety inspections and proper maintenance. But nevertheless the result of the 'Special Act on the Safety Control of Public Structures' clearly exist, methodical analysis and effect of 'Special Act on the Safety Control of Public Structures' have not proposed since last 20 years. So question about the infrastructure of safety is brought up consistently. After that, the government has been creating new trends of facility maintenance since it deeply realized the significance of systematic inspection and maintenance of major public structures.
