In this study, stability analysis was conducted for improved open-cut tunnel ground by preloading. The result of this study, vertical and unequal settlement was within the acceptable range. However, the field of soft ground can cause greater settlement than predicted. Therefore, the structure must be constructed in preparation for the differential settlement.

The goal of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of using more than one material for unit element flange of Archigird. The flange is optimized using the solution of multi-material topology optimization. In this topic, multi-material minimum structural compliance topology optimization problems is solved basedon the classical optimality criteria method. Three different types of steel material are used: SS400, SM570, UL700. The distribution of these three materials is considered by changing the participating volume of materials in the given shape. Material distribution is implemented with the use of 2 materials and 3 materials. The strain energy and the price of three steel types are used for comparison.

This paper is to investigate the stress-strain curves for STS 201 austenitic stainless steel over the full strain range. Ramberg-Osgood expression can be used to predict the stress-strain curve up to the 0.2% proof stress. Rasmussen and Shin have developed the approach for stress-strain curve of stainless steels beyond 0.2% proof stress based on the Ramberg-Osgood concept. However, for STS201 stainless steel, two existing concepts were not available for predicting the curves and therefore modified method was discussed in this paper.

Austenitic stainless steels have excellent corrosion resistance, durability, aesthetic appeal, fire resistance etc. compared with ferritic stainless steels and so especially 304 stainless steels have been utilized widely in the exterior member of building structure. In this paper, ultimate behaviors such as ultimate strength and fracture mechanism of fillet-welded connections with TIG(tungsten inert gas) welding have been investigated through test results. Main variables of specimens are weld length and welding direction against loading and ultimate strengths were compared according to the variables.

The capacity of post-installed anchor used in joining of new and old concretes structures is dominated by shear force of steels. Thus, too many anchors are required to demonstrate the reinforcement effects. In this study, a new ring anchor with high-shear resistance capacity is presented. This study evaluated that shear capacity by concrete strength and beam width through nonlinear analysis.

In this research, we used half model instead of full model in order to consider convergence and analysis running time. We carried out nonlinear analysis on the joints between steel tower to concrete supporting structure of the 5MW offshore wind turbine applying only half of the load on the joint.

Flexural behavior of precast concrete sandwich wall panels (PCSW) can be divided into one way or two-way according to their aspect ratio. A total of five specimens were tested to find out the effects of design direction of shear connectors and the type of insulation on flexural behavior of PCSW. Design of shear connector in two-way direction has better performance in terms of initial stiffness than those of design of shear connector in one-way direction. Also, the specimens with extruded polystyrene (XPS) foam has higher performance in terms of initial stiffness and ultimate strength than those of the specimens with for expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam.

This study investigates the ultimate strength and curling influence in single shear bolted connection with 7075-T6 aluminum alloys using numerical approach. The applicability of finite element analysis was validated through the comparison between existing test results and numerical predictions. Curling was observed in some specimens with a relatively long end distance and reduced the ultimate strength of bolted connection. Strength reduction ratio by curling was estimated quantitatively and it is known that curling caused the strength reduction by maximum 21%.

In this paper, the peak impact factor response spectrum is verified through finite element (FE) analysis using a simply supported bridge. The FE model is a slab bridge designed with 4 m width and 8 m length. The FE analysis is applied on the bridge modeled with 2D frame and 3D solid. By considering 5% damping ratio, the peak impact factors of the FE models and the response spectrum are compared. From the results, a very small difference of about 1.5% is found between the FE models and the response spectrum.

This study is to solve the structural optimization problem by a quantum-inspired harmony search algorithm. For the optimization, we suggest the mathematical modeling of the plane truss which is possible to minimum weight design. In its model, the cost function is minimum weight and constraint function consists of the stress.

The purpose of this study is to get analytic solution of space truss using homotopy perturbation. A homotopy perturbation was derived by formulating a governing equation for a space truss, and a semi analytical solution was obtained by homotopy perturbation. In conclusion, the analytical solution of the simple nonlinear model using the homotopy perturbation was compared with the numerical analysis result.

Using trapezoidal corrugated plates in shear reinforcing systems improves stiffness and flexibility in the deformation along the corrugation. However, shear buckling behaviors is difficult to predict the relationship between the corrugated shape. In this study, a cyclic loading test of the trapezoidal corrugated plate was performed to evaluate the effects of energy dissipation capacity were compared according to the test results.

TLP (Tension Leg Platform) is the marine structure for the buckling evaluated to ensure the safety. ABAQUS program was conducted the buckling of TLP. A global model which simulated entire TLP structure has too many elements. This leads a large consumption of time and the hardware for analysis. Therefore, dividing the global model into the detailed models and the local models are significant. In this study, the buckling strength evaluation of the TLP structure members was proceed via non linear finite element analysis presented in DNV-RP-C208.

Short-fiber reinforcement is commonly added to concrete to improve various aspects of their durability and performance. Effective designs of fiber reinforced concrete depend not only on material composition, but also on the methods of processing. In particular, the distribution of fibers within a structural component can significantly affect its resistance to cracking and, therefore, its durability when exposed to severe environments. Probability-based analyses can be used to accommodate such factors in life cycle performance evaluation, in which the relevant performance measures are described by probability density functions and their evolution over time. This paper concerns the simulation of fiber reinforced concrete using lattice models, in which the individual fibers are explicitly modeled within the material domain. This approach facilitates the study of non-uniform fiber dispersions and their potential effects on structural performance.

Current design codes (AASHTO, Korean Highway Bridge Design Code) do not account for dynamic effects. Since, the dynamic impact analysis is complicate to recommend and analysis. In this study, concrete bridge column were developed with two boundary conditions in order to take account dynamic behavior of the column and in-direct impact analysis was conducted. Furthermore, a comparison study of in-direct impact analysis with direct impact analysis was conducted.

A series of tests on the bond characteristics between new and old concrete were carried out. Main test variables are type and amount of mineral admixtures, treatment method of the interface and type of waterstops. The test results showed a slightly increased bond strength when applying mineral admixtures and the interface was treated rough and dry.

In this study, Flexural tests for prefabricated composite columns using steel angle and band steel were carried out. The composite columns are fabricated by bolting the angles and the band steels before casting concrete and named, therefore, B-PSRC(Bolt-connected Prefabricated Steel Reinforced Concrete) columns. A SRC composite column and four of B-PSRC columns were prepared for flexural load tests. From the test results, all the specimens showed flexural failure, which is due to rupture of hole-section at the angle-bolt joints. Shear failure caused by bond slip between the angles and concrete was not found in any of specimens. The flexural strength of B-PSRC columns which were designed, the same steel ratio as the SRC columns was shown to be higher than that of SRC columns.

In this research, the experimental works were conducted to study the lap strength of the headed reinforcements with confinement provided by stirrups or tie-down bars. Eleven lap splice specimens were tested. The variables in this study were: confinement details and lap length. The initial crack of the specimens lapped developed at the heads of reinforcements. Bearing stress and confinement details contributed to increase strength and deformation.
