        The national curriculum for English in Korea emphasizes the development of communicative competence through the use of task-based learning and communicative activities that suit the student’s needs and levels, as well as the integration of the four skills. This not only requires sophisticated teaching skills, but also a high degree of proficiency in English. The English Teacher Selection Test, which is meant to select quality English teachers, has never been free from being criticized for its lack of validity, consistency, and proper feedback. This study thus analyzes the English Teacher Selection Test items from 2004 to 2006 in terms of percentages of different fields of major and suggests some ideas to make the Test more efficient in serving its purpose, which is selecting quality English teachers.

        울릉도 식물상의 참고문헌과 야외조사를 통해 확인된 귀화식물은 21과 49속 63종 2변종 65분류군이며, 국화과 27.7%, 벼과, 콩과, 마디풀과 각각 7.7%로 확인되었다. 본 연구를 통하여 좀소리쟁이, 노랑토끼풀, 덩이괭이밥, 유럽전호, 둥근잎나팔꽃, 큰금계국, 별꽃아재비, 몬트부레치아, 큰김의틸 총 9종이 추가 확인되었다. 1년생 초본류는 36.9%이고, 유럽 원산지가 40.0%를 차지하였다. 울릉도의 도시화지수는 22.0이며, 각각의 참고문헌에 의하면 귀화율은 증가하고 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 울릉도의 생태계 교란 야생식물로는 돼지풀이 생육하고 있었다. 귀화식물의 관리방안으로는 원예용 식물 유입의 최소화 및 확산 방지와 절개지 복구용으로 자생종을 활용하여 천이를 유도하는 것이 필요하다.

        The COREA (COsmic ray Research and Education Array in Korea) project aims to build a ground array of particle detectors distributed over Korean Peninsular, through collaborations of high school students, educators, and university researchers, in order to study the origin of ultra high energy cosmic rays. COREA array will consist of about 2000 detector stations covering several hundreds of km2 area at its final configuration and detect electrons and muons in extensive air-showers triggered by high energy particles. During the intial phase COREA array will start with a small number of detector stations in Seoul area schools. In this paper, we have studied by Monte Carlo simulations how to select detector sites for optimal detection efficiency for proton triggered air-showers. We considered several model clusters with up to 30 detector stations and calculated the effective number of air-shower events that can be detected per year for each cluster. The greatest detection efficiency is achieved when the mean distance between detector stations of a cluster is comparable to the effective radius of the air-shower of a given proton energy. We find the detection efficiency of a cluster with randomly selected detector sites is comparable to that of clusters with uniform detector spacing. We also considered a hybrid cluster with 60 detector stations that combines a small cluster with Δι≈100m and a large cluster with Deltaι≈1km . We suggest that it can be an ideal configuration for the initial phase study of the COREA project, since it can measure the cosmic rays with a wide range energy, i.e., 1016eV≤E≤1019eV , with a reasonable detection rate.

        This paper is concerned with the natural periods of ambient vibration and eigenvalue analysis. Ambient vibration tests were conducted to four bearing-wall reinforced concrete buildings ranging from twelve to nineteen stories. The performance of modeling in eigenvalue analysis was investigated using consideration of rigidity out of the plane in the slab and the non-structural bearing wall. Measured natural period was also compared with the value by the KBC2005. Natural period of the short direction in eigenvalue analysis is well fitted with the measured one. In the other hand, Natural period of the long direction in eigenvalue analysis is slightly more overestimated than the measured one. Natural period of the long direction in eigenvalue analysis was found to be enhanced by considering the effect of the stiffness out of the plane of the slab and non-structural wall in the structural modeling.
