        Dysplasia-associated seizure disorders are markedly resistant to pharmacological intervention. Relatively little research has been conducted studying the effects of antiepileptic drugs(AEDs)on seizure activity in a rat model of dysplasia. We have used rats exposed to methylazoxymethanol acetate(MAM) in utero, an animal model featuring nodular heterotopia, to investigate the effects of AEDs in the dysplastic brain. Pilocarpine was used to induce acute seizure in MAM-exposed and age-matched vehicle-injected control animals. Field potential recordings were used to monitor amplitude and numbers of population spikes, and paired pulse inhibition in response to stimulation of commissural pathway. Two commonly used AEDs were tested: diazepam 5, 2.5 mg/kg; phenytoin 40, 60 mg/kg. Diazepam(DZP) and phenytoin(PHT) reduced the amplitude of population spike in control and MAM-exposed rats. However, the amplitude of population spike was nearly eliminated in control rats as compared to the MAM-exposed rats. Pharmaco-resistance was tested by measuring seizure latencies in awake rats after pilocarpine administration(320 mg/kg, i.p.) with and without pretreatment with AEDs. Pre-treatment with PHT 60 mg prolonged seizure latency in control rats, but not in MAM-exposed animals. The main findings of this study are that acute seizures initiated in MAM-exposed rats are relatively resistant to standard AEDs assessed in vivo. These data suggest that animal model with cortical dysplasia can be used to screen the effects of potential AEDs.

        Cloned calves derived from somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) have been frequently lost by sudden death at 1 to 3 month following healthy birth. To address whether placental anomalies are responsible for the sudden death of cloned calves, we compared protein patterns of 2 placentae derived from SCNT of Korean Native calves died suddenly at two months after birth and those of 2 normal placentae obtained from AI fetuses. Placental proteins were separated using 2-Dimensional gel electrophoresis. Approximately 800 spots were detected in placental 2-D gel stained with coomassie-blue. Then, image analysis of Malanie III (Swiss Institute for Bioinformatics) was performed to detect variations in protein spots between normal and SCNT placentae. In the comparison of normal and SCNT samples, 8 spots were identified to be up-regulated proteins and 24 spots to be down-regulated proteins in SCNT placentae, among which proteins were high mobility group protein HMG1, apolipoprotein A-1 precursor, bactenecin 1, tropomyosin beta chain, H+-transporting ATPase, carbonic anhydrase II, peroxiredoxin 2, tyrosine-rich acidic matrix protein, serum albumin precursor and cathepsin D. These results suggested that the sudden death of cloned calves might be related to abnormal protein expression in placenta.

        사용후핵연료 금속전환체의 저장 안정성을 높이기 위해 금속전환체의 주성분인 금속우라늄과 산화 안정화물질로 알려져 있는 Nb을 첨가하여 모의 금속전환체 합금을 제작하였다. 모의 금속전환체 합금을 온도구간에서 순수 산소분위기로 산화시험을 수행하고 무게증가를 열중량 분석기(TGA)로 측정하였다. 산화 실험결과 U-Nb 모의 금속전환체는 순수 금속우라늄에 비하여 상당한 산화 저항성을 가졌다. U-Nb 합금의 경우 Nb의 함량 에 따라 각각 온도가 일 경우에는 1.61, 7.78, 11.76, 20.14배 , 에서 1.45, 5.98, 10.08, 11.15배, 에서 1.33, 4.82, 8.87, 6.84배 순수 금속우라늄에 비해 산화저항성이 향상되는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 Nb 합금에 대한 활성화에너지는 kcal/mol 로 나타났다.

        The Pt-Ru/Carbon as an anode catalyst supported on the commercial activated carbon (AC) having high surface area and micropore was characterized for application of Direct Methanol Fuel Cell (DMFC). The Pt-Ru/AC anode catalyst used in this experiment showed the performance of 600 mA/cm2 current density at 0.3 V. The borohydride reduction process using NaBH4, denoted as a process A, showed much higher current and power densities than process B prepared by changing the reduction and washing process of process A. The particle sizes are strongly affected by the reduction process than the specific surface area of raw active carbon and the sizes are almost constant when the specific surface area of carbon are over than the 1200 m2/g. Smaller particle size of catalyst and more narrow intercrystalite distance increased the performance of DMFC.

        Achondroplasia is associated with craniofacial abnormality, musculoskeletal deformations, and respiratory, cardiovascular abnormalities. So, anesthetic management is one of clinical challenges. Herein, we report and discuss a case of achondroplastic patient underwent osteosynthesis for femur fracture, which was chosen on the base of patient’s anatomical and physiological characteristics. The patient had thoracolumbar kyphosis (21.8°), previous spine surgery, short neck, obstructive sleep apnea, and mild cervical limitation. Intubation was conducted with smaller cuffed endotracheal tube under videolaryngoscope guidance. Mechanical ventilation was applied with volume control mode, using a tidal volume of 8-10 ml/kg without positive end-expiratory pressure. The patient was supine after placing support under shoulders and head during intubation and surgery. Intraoperative body temperature was maintained using air-forced waring blanket. Complete and careful preoperative evaluation is absolutely important to select the appropriate anesthetic method. Ideal anesthetic management in each case should be based on an individualized decision-making.

        The energy balance in a satellite needs to be designed properly for the satellite to safely operate and carry out successive missions on an orbit. In this study, an analysis program was developed using the MATLABⓇ graphic user interface (GUI) for nanosatellites. This program was used in a simulation to confirm the generated power, consumed power, and battery power in the satellites on the orbit, and its performance was verified with applying different satellite operational modes and units. For data transmission, STKⓇ-MATLABⓇ connectivity was used to send the generated power from STKⓇ to MATLABⓇ automatically. Moreover, this program is general-purpose; therefore, it can be applied to nanosatellites that have missions or shapes that are different from those of the satellites in this study. This power simulation tool could be used not only to calculate the suitable power budget when developing the power systems, but also to analyze the remaining energy balance in the satellites.

        Background : The most problematic disease in Boxthorn is Anthracnose. New variety with Anthracnose-resistant is good for high yield and Safe fruit production in open field. Therefore it is necessary to develop a New variety with Anthracnose -resistant and high yield. Methods and Results : The new boxthorn line, CB10511-104 was selected from the cross between Cheongun (IT232599) and CB08456-113 to breed new variety with high yield and Anthracnose-resistant in 2011. Its preliminary yield test was performed from 2012 to 2013 and the selected line was named Cheongyang 25. Its regional yield trials were carried out in Cheongyang, Yesan and Jindo for 3 years, from 2014 to 2016. Cheongyang 25 was registered as the new variety, Cheonggeum, in 2016. The specific characteristics were summarized as follows; Tree shape is open type and the leaf is round-lanceolate. The flowers are normal size and purple. The fruit is large size, round oval and yellowish red. The flowering was June 19 with medium flowering. Number of sprout branch by pruning was generated more than the check variety, Cheongmeong. The infection rates on leaves to Eriophys macrodonis Keifer was as strong as 39.6 percent. Anthracnose on fruits in open field was slightly similare compared to the check variety, but check variety was Anthracnose-resistant. The content of betaine and free sugar in dried-fruits were higher than that of the check variety. The dried-fruit yield was decreased about 17 percent in open field. Conclusion : This variety ‘Cheonggeum’ was suitable for cultivation in open field because of Anthracnose-resistant. It is necessary the companion variety, Cheonghong, because of self-incompatible.

        좌심실 이완기능 장애는 심근허혈이나 좌심실비대 등과 같은 심근질환이 잇는 환자에서 대부분 관찰되지만 심장질환이 없는 건강한 사람에서도 흔하게 관찰된다. 정상 심박출(수축기능)상태에서 좌심실의 이완기 장애 평가는 심부전의 진행과 예후에 영향을 줄 수 있다. 심장외막지방조직은 생리활성분자를 생성하는 대사활동기관으로 심혈관질환에 직접적으로 연관성이 있으며 이는 심근에 직접적으로 영향을 미쳐 이후 심장의 기능장애를 초래한다. 본 연구목적은 심장외막지방의 두께를 측정하여 정상의 수축기 기능인 상태에서 확장기(이완기) 기능장애의 평가와의 연관성을 연구하고자하였다. 연구결과 심장외막지방두께와 이완기 장애 유무가 통계적으로 유의한 수준에서 높은 연관성이 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 특히 심장외막지방두께 측정단면 EAT2에서 측정된 값과 이완기 장애평가방법 E'는 높은 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 심장외막지방두께변화는 좌심실의 이완기능장애를 평가할 수 있는 예측인자로 사용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

        사이클로트론에서 발생되는 핵반응은 불필요한 중성자를 발생시키며, 이로 인해 주변 물질들이 방사화 되게 된다. 방사화된 물질은 방사선피폭의 원인으로, 공기가 방사화 되었을 경우 인체에 흡입되어 내부피폭을 발생 시킨다. 이에 본 연구에서는 16.5 MeV의 초소형 사이클로트론의 운영에 따른 내부 공기의 방사화를 분석하고자 하였다. 실험결과 초소형 사이클로트론의 핵반응으로 발생되는 방사화는 종사자에게 매우 낮은 내부피폭을 발생시키는 것을 확인할 수 있었으며, 방사화로 인하여 발생된 방사능을 법적 기준치와 비교하여 보았을 때 기준치 이하로 법적 관리의 대상에서 제외 될 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 하지만, 사이클로트론의 에너지가 높아짐에 따라 내부피폭의 위험성은 더욱 높아질 우려가 있으며, 이에 따라 국내에 정립 되어 있지 않는 방사선 관련 시설의 환기설비에 대한 기준이 필요할 것으로 사료되었다.
