        The objective of this study was to determine the effect of drinking water containing trimethyl glycine or ascorbic acid on growth performance and blood parameter profiles of duck exposed to scorching heat stress. A total of 480 ducks were randomly assigned to the following eight experiment groups for 42 days : control group C with general water, treatment group 1 (T1) with drinking water containing 100 ppm ascorbic acid, treatment group 2 (T2) with drinking water containing 200 ppm ascorbic acid, treatment group 3 (T3) with drinking water containing 300 ppm ascorbic acid, treatment group 4 (T4) with drinking water containing 400 ppm trimethyl glycine, treatment group 5 (T5) with drinking water containing 800 ppm trimethyl glycine, treatment group 6 (T6) with drinking water containing 1,200 ppm trimethyl glycine, treatment group 7 (T7) with electrolytes of KCl (0.5%) + NaHCO3 (1.0%)+NaCl (0.5%). Our results revealed that the body weights and feed intakes of treatment groups, especially T3 and T6, were increased compared to the control group, where as the feed conversion ratios of treatment groups were decreased (p<0.05). Blood levels of total cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL-C, glucose, AST, ALT and pH in treatment groups were lower compared to those in the control group (p<0.05). Blood levels of red blood cell, platelets profiles, electrolyte and gas in treatment groups were higher compared to those of the control group (p<0.05).

        본 시험은 동계작물인 쌀보리의 알곡에 대한 사료로서의 활용도를 제고하고자 미생물 분포를 분석하고, 발효과정 중 이화학적 및 미생물학적 특성의 변화 분석을 통하여 효 과적인 발효사료 제조방법을 제시하고자 수행하였다. 즉, 수확된 쌀보리 종실에 시판 생균제를 기준에 맞게 접종한 후 공기와 접촉하지 않도록 밀봉하여 37℃에서 7일간 발 효를 통해 쌀보리 종실의 저장성과 안전성을 증진시킬 수 있다. 쌀보리 종실 자체에 Staphylococcus속과 Bacillus속의 미 생물들이 다수 존재하여 자연발효의 가능성이 있음을 보여 주었다. 또한 생균제를 접종하지 않은 쌀보리 종실도 기간 이 경과됨에 따라 산도가 저하되고 유산균 수가 증가하여 발효가 이루어지고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 쌀보리 종실에 생균제를 접종하였을 경우, 발효 7일차에 pH가 4.33±0.02로 발효가 더 빨리 진행되었으며, 유산균의 수도 전체 발효기간 동안 미 접종 대조구에 비해 높게 유지되었 으나, 효모의 수에 있어서는 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 발효 에 의해 쌀보리 종실의 산도가 저하됨에 따라 초기 107 cfu/g 이상 검출되었던 대장균이 발효 7일차 이후부터는 전 혀 검출되지 않아 발효가 쌀보리 종실의 안전성을 유지시 키는 데 있어 효과적인 저장방법으로 나타났다.

        The effects of different feeding times, using a diet containing 800 ppm betaine, on production, blood profile, and the short-chain fatty acid (SCFA), was investigated using 240 Cherry Valley (Anas platyrhynchos) meat ducks exposed to a scorching heat wave. The animals were randomly assigned to four groups, each of which was replicated three times with twenty ducks per replicate. The experimental period was 42 days for each group. Four groups were assigned into C (heat wave control group without betaine), T1 (ad libitum group fed a diet containing 800 ppm betaine), T2 (diet-restricted group fed twice daily between 05:00-10:00 and 17:00-20:00, using a diet containing 800 ppm betaine), and T3 (night-restricted group, fed from 17:00-10:00, with a diet containing 800 ppm betaine). At 42 days, body weight increased in order of T2, T1, T3 compared to the heat wave control group although. However, these differences were not found between the groups of T1 and T3. The heat wave control group, provided an ad libitum diet without betaine (C), showed an elevated feed conversion ratio compared to the groups fed a diet containing betaine. However, these differences were not found between the groups of T1, T2 and T3. RBC and platelet profiles except for PLT and MPV showed statistically significant differences between study groups fed a diet containing betaine. T2 presented significantly higher blood electrolytes Na+ and Cl- than the other groups. T2 also showed a blood gas level that was generally higher than the other groups. Total SCFA, acetic acid and propionic acid concentration has been the increasing trend in T2, but butyric acid, isobutyric acid and valeric acid concentration has been the decreasing trend in T2 compared to the other groups. It is concluded that the feeding-restricted group, fed two times daily between 05:00-10:00 and 17:00-20:00, with a diet containing 800 ppm betaine may improve growth performance in meat ducks exposed to a scorching heat wave.

        This experiment was conducted to verify the effect of spraying ethanol extracts (green tea and wormwood) on pH, TBARS, VBN, and total microbes of chicken meat during storage. The ethanol extracts of green tea and wormwood were sprayed on the chicken carcasses (0.2 and 0.2 g extract/㎏meat, respectively). Treated sample showed higher lightness (L* values) and yellowness (b* values) and lower redness (a* values) than those of control. The TBARS values were significantly lower for the treatments than the control on storage day 4, especially, the treatment of the wormwood extracts had lowest TBARS value. The VBN values were relatively lower values for the treatments than the control on storage day 4, especially, the treatment of the wormwood extracts had lowest VBN value on storage day 6. Wormwood samples showed lower total aerobic and E. coli counts than the others on day 6. Therefore, the spray with natural wormwood extracts could be useful to extend the shelf-life by preventing lipid oxidation and reducing the microbial growth during storage of chicken meat.

        본 연구는 폭염 스트레스(extreme heat stress, EHS, 33±2℃)에 노출된 브로일러에서 대두유, 당밀, 아미노산, 비타민 C를 적절하게 함유하는 폭염사료 (extreme heat stress diet, EHSD)급여가 짧은 사슬지방산 및 성장능력에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 부화 당일 Ross 308 병아리 500 마리를 5처리구로 완전임의배치 하였다. 각 처리구는 4반복을 가졌으며 각 반복은 25마리씩 배치하였다. 처리구는 역전점등과 함께 T1 (일반환경+기초사료 basal diet, BD), T2 (EHS+BD), T3 (EHS+BD 내 우지를 대두유로 대체 및 당밀 2%를 함유하는 EHSD), T4 (EHS+BD 내 우지를 대두유로 대체, 당밀 2%, 메치오닌과 라이신을 각각 일반사료의 1.5배씩 함유하는 EHSD), T5 (EHS+BD 내 우지를 대두유로 대체, 당밀 2%, 메치오닌과 라이신을 각각 일반사료의 1.5배씩 추가 및 비타민 C 200 ppm을 함유하는 EHSD)로 구분하였다. 브로일러의 증체량은 T1, T2와 비교할 때 T4, T5에서 유의하게 증가하였다. 그리고 면역기관, F낭, 흉선, 비장의 무게는 서로 비슷하였다. 또한 혈청 IgG, IgA, IgM 농도는 T4, T5가 T1, T2에 비교할 때 높았으나 코르티코스테론 농도는 유의하게 낮아졌다. 특히 맹장의 Lactobacillus는 T4, T5가 T1, T2에 비해서 증가하였으나 Escherichia, Coliform, Total aerobic bacteria는 오히려 유의하게 감소하였다. 초산, 프로피온산 및 총 짧은 사슬지방산 함량은 T4, T5가 T1, T2와 비교할 때 유의하게 높았다.

        본 연구는 연속조명과 함께 폭염 스트레스(extreme heat stress, EHS)에 노출된 브로일러에서 폭염사료 급여가 혈액지질, 성장능력, 면역기관, 혈청 면역물질, 맹장 미생물 변화에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 일반 환경온도 (25℃) 또는 폭염스트레스 (33±2℃)하에서 사육한 병아리는 일반사료(chow diet, CD)와 폭염사료(extreme heat diet, EHD)를 섭취하였다. 부화 당일 Ross 308 병아리 500 마리를 5 처리구 4 반복(반복 펜 당 25 마리)으로 완전임의배치 하였다. T1 (일반환경+CD), T2 (EHS+CD), T3 (EHS+CD 내 우지를 대두유로 대체 및 당밀 5%를 함유하는 EHD), T4 (EHS+CD 내 우지를 대두유로 대체, 당밀 5%, 메치오닌과 라이신을 각각 CD 의 1.5 배씩 함유하는 EHD), T5 (폭염+CD 내 우지를 대두유로 대체, 당밀 5%, 메치오닌과 라이신을 각각 CD 의 1.5 배씩 추가 및 비타민 C 300 ppm 을 함유하는 EHD)로 구분하였다. EHS 는 체중 및 사료섭취량을 유의하게 감소하였다. 혈액지질, 혈액 면역물질, F 낭, 흉선 그리고 비장의 무게는 브로일러를 EHS 에 노출하였을 때 유의하게 낮아졌다. 일반 환경온도 처리군과 비교할 때 EHS 처리군에서 맹장 Lactobacillus sp.는 낮았으나 Escherichia sp., Salmonella sp. 및 총호기성균은 높게 나타났으며 각 처리구 사이의 통계적인 유의차가 인정되었다.

        This experiment was conducted to investigate the reasonable levels of energy and protein for the production of large broilers. A total of nine hundred sixty, day old broiler chickens (Ross) were randomly divided into six groups with four replicates of forty birds each. Experiments were factorial designed with 3,100, 3,000, and 3,030 kcal of ME/kg and 22, 21, and 21% CP for the first week; and 3,100, 3,035, and 3,050 kcal of ME/kg and 19, 19, and 18.5% CP for the second and third week; and 3,100, 3,175, and 3,100 kcal of ME/kg and 17, 18, and 17.5 CP for the fourth and fifth week; and 3,100, 3,175, and 3,250 kcal of ME/kg and 17, 17, and 18% CP for the sixth and seventh week. Body weight and feed conversion ratio were higher in T3 than the other treatments groups (p<0.05). Feed intake was higher in than males than females treatment group (p<0.05). No significant differences were observed in carcass percent and leg meats production rate was 22.5% in T1 treatment of male and female were 22.5% of the T5 treatment. In addition, 21.4% in females treated T4 and T6 treatment was 21.5%. Abdominal fat was higher in males than females. After seven weeks, the moisture content of litter did not differ among the treatments. In the experimental results, large male broilers at the end of the feeding in protein and energy levels should be increased. However, females did not suggest a need to increase.

        The objective of this study was to determine the effect of dietary oils on the levels of the γ-linolenic acid in chicken meat lipids. Three hundred ten five, 1-d old, male, Ross strain, broiler chicks were fed for 35 d to compare diets containing evening primrose oil(EPO) and hemp seed oil(HO) to a control diet. Fatty acid composition of lipid from chicken skin, thigh and breast muscle were determined at the end of the trial. The level of γ-linolenic acid of lipids from chicken meat fed diets containing EPO or HO was significantly higher than that of the control group(p〈0.05). The level of γ-linolenic acid of lipids from chicken skin was highest in the group, which had been fed the EPO 0.85%, followed in order by EPO 0.7%, 0.5%, EPO mixed oil, HO and HO mixed oil. There was a significant difference in the level of γ-linolenic acid of chicken skin between the control and treatment groups(p〈0.05). The level of γ-linolenic acid of lipids from chicken thigh muscle was also similar to skin, and significantly higher than that of the control group(p〈0.05). The level of γ-linolenic acid of lipids from chicken breast muscle was highest in the group, which had been fed the EPO 0.5%, followed in order by EPO 0.7%, 0.85%, HO 0.5% and HO mixed oil. There was a significant difference in the level of γ-linolenic acid of chicken breast muscle between the control and treatment groups(p〈0.05).

        The European Economic Community four plate test(EEC 4-plate test, FPT, EU) has been used for monitoring antimicrobial drug residues in meat by Local Veterinary Service Center in Korea. This study was performed to evaluate sensitivity and group specificity of some antimicrobial drugs in FPT and to compare FPT with Charm II test. The minimal detectable levels of targeted antimicrobial drugs tested with standard solutions were 0.025-1.0 ppm for 7 beta-lactams, 0.5-1.0 ppm for 4 aminoglycosides, 0.05-0.5 ppm for 5 macrolides, 0.05-0.25 ppm for 3 tetracyclines and 0.25-1.0 ppm for 6 sulfonamides. In identification of the families, five families of antimicrobial drugs were identified. In this case, beta-lactams, aminoglycosides, macrolides, tetracyclines and sulfonamides could be detectable. In comparison of FPT and Charm II test, the results of FPT were not accord with those of Charm II test having the group specificity of seven families of antimicrobial drugs in meat samples except some families like tetracyclines.
