The en-riched 58Ni powders are dissolved in acid solution and coated on a Cu target for proton irradiation at cyclotron to produce 57Co radioisotope. The condition of the plating bath and the coating process are determined using the en-riched powders. To establish the coating conditions for 57Co, non-radioactive Co ions are dissolved in an acid solution and electroplated on to a rhodium plate. The thermal diffusion of electroplated Co into a rhodium matrix was studied to apply a 57Co Mssbauer source. The diffusion depth from surface to matrix of Co is depended on the annealing temperature and time. The deposited Co atoms diffuse completely into a rhodium (Rh) matrix without substantial loss at an annealing temperature of 1200 for 4 hours.

The effects of nano addition to superconducting properties of processed superconductors was examined. 0.1 wt.% and 1 wt.% nano powders were mixed with boron and magnesium powders by ball milling. The powder mixtures were made into pellets by uniaxial pressing. The pellets were heat-treated at in argon atmosphere for formation. It was found by powder X-ray diffraction that the raw powders were completely converted into after the heat treatment. The superconducting transition temperature () and critical current density (), estimated from susceptibility-temperature and curves, were decreased by nano addition. The and decrease by nano addition are attributed to the incorporation of iron and carbon with lattices (Fe substitution for Mg and C substitution for B) due to the high reactivity of the nano powder.

Hydrophobic nanodiamond (ND) were dispersed in engine oil (Helix Oil, Shell co.) as an additives to improve tribology properties. In this study, nanodiamond prepared by an explosive method was used. Tribology properties of both pure Helix oil and engine oil containing ND additive were evaluated. The rotating disks were made of Gray Cast Iron (240 Hv) and SKD11 (710 Hv). Surface topographies of the disks' wear tracks and friction coefficient were compared. The results show that nanodiamond-dispersed lubricants are capable of reducing these metals' wear loss. The friction coefficient is strongly affected to the hardness of wear track.

Multi shell graphite coated Ag nano particles with core/shell structure were successfully synthesized by pulsed wire evaporation (PWE) method. Ar and (10 vol.%) gases were mixed in chamber, which played a role of carrier gas and reaction gas, respectively. Graphite layers on the surface of silver nano particles were coated indiscretely. However, the graphite layers are detached, when the particles are heated up to in the air atmosphere. In contrast, the graphite coated layer was stable under Ar and atmosphere, though the core/shell structured particles were heated up to . The presence of graphite coated layer prevent agglomeration of nanoparticles during heat treatment. The dispersion stability of the carbon coated Ag nanoparticles was higher than those of pure Ag nanoparticles.

Carbon-coated Cu nanopowders with core/shell structure have been successfully fabricated by pulsed wire evaporation (PWE) method, in which a mixed gas of Ar/ (10 vol.%) was used as an ambient gas. The characterization of the samples was carried out using x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and high resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM). It was found that the nanoparticles show a spherical morphology with the size ranging of 10-40 nm and are covered with graphite layers of 2-4 nm. When oxygen-passivated Cu nanopowders were annealed under flowing argon gas (600 and 800), the crystallinity of phase and the particle size gradually increased. On the other hand, carbon-coated Cu nanopowders remained similar to as-prepared case with no additional oxide or carbide phases even after the annealing, indicating that the metal nanoparticles are well protected by the carbon-coating layers.

In this paper, the electrochemical non-enzyme immunosensor has been developed for the determination of salmonella antigen, using inverse voltammetry. For the estimation of salmonella antigen concentration, the nanoparticles synthesized by microemulsion method were conjugated with salmonella antigen. Then, the immunocomplex between antibody immobilized on the transducer surface and antigen containing a magnetic nanoparticles was formed. From the linear relationship between the reduction peak current of Fe(III) and salmonella antigen concentration, it is suggested that the electrochemical non-enzyme biosensor is applicable to detect salmonella antigen in the concentration range of

Mechanical coating process was applied to form 89 %-hydrolyzed poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) onto boron carbide (B4C) nanopowder using one step high energy ball mill method. The polymer layer coated on the surface of B4C was changed to glass-like phase. The average particle size of core/shell structured B4C/PVA was about 50 nm. The core/shell structured B4C/PVA was formed by dry milling. However, the hydrolyzed PVA of 98~99% with high glass transition temperature (Tg) was rarely coated on the powder. The Tg of polymer materials was one of keys for guest polymer coating on to the host powder by solvent free milling.

The surface roughness of Al, Ag and Ni nano-powders which were prepared by pulsed wire evaporation method was quantified based upon the fractal theory. The surface fractal dimensions of metal nano-powders were determined from the linear relationship between In and Inln () using multi-layer gas adsorption theory. Moreover, the fractal surface image was realized by computer simulation. The relationship between preparation condition and surface characteristics of metal nano-powders was discussed in detail.

The magnetic alloys of Cu-Fe () were prepared by a mechanical alloying method and their structural and magnetic behaviors were examined by X-ray diffraction and Mossbauer spectra. The magnetization curves did not distinctly show the saturation at 70 kOe for the concentrated alloys of . The Mossbauer spectrum of at room temperature shows one Lorentzian line of the paramagnetic phase, whereas the Mossbauer spectrum of consists of sextet Lorentzian line at room temperature and a centered doublet line. The Mossbauer spectra of measured in the temperature ranges from 13 to 295 K, implies that to consists of two magnetic phases. One superimposed sextet corresponds to the ferromagnetic iron in Cu and the other one indicates the superparamagnetic iron rich phase.

Effects of oxygen deficiency on the room temperature ferromagnetism in Fe-doped reduced have been investigated by comparing the air-annealed compound with secondly post-annealed one in vacuum ambience. The air-annealed sample showed a paramagnetic behavior at room temperature. However, when the sample was further annealed in vacuum, a strongly enhanced ferromagnetic behavior was observed at same temperature. spectra of air-annealed sample at 295K showed a single doublet of , suggesting that the Fe ions are paramagnetic. On the other hand, the absorption spectra after vacuum-annealing exhibited two doublets, in which one is the same component with air-annealed sample and the other is new doublet corresponding to state. This result suggests that the occurrence of ferromagnetism in reduced sample may be interpreted as the contribution of unquenched orbital moment of ions.

The Ti-Ni alloy nanopowders were synthesized by a levitational gas condensation (LGC) by using a micron powder feeding system and their particulate properties were investigated by x-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method. The starting Ti and Ni micron powders were incorporated into the micron powder feeding system. An ingot type of the Ti-Ni ahoy was used as a seed material for the levitation and evaporation reactions. The collected powders were finally passivated by oxidation. The x-ray diffraction experiments have shown that the synthesized powders were completely alloyed with Ti and Ni and comprised of two different cubic and monoclinic crystalline phases. The TEM results showed that the produced powders were very fine and uniform with a spherical particle size of 18 to 32nm. The typical thickness of a passivated oxide layer on the particle surface was about 2 to 3 nm. The specific surface area of the Ti-Ni alloy nanopowders was based on BET method.

Nanoparticles of iron oxides have been prepared by the levitational gas condensation (LGC) method, and their structural and magnetic properties were studied by XRD, TEM and Mossbauer spectroscopy. Fe clusters were evaporated from a surface of the levitated liquid Fe droplet and then condensed into nanoparticles of iron oxide with particle size of 14 to 30 nm in a chamber filled with mixtures of Ar and gases. It was found that the phase transition from both - and -Fe to , which was evaluated from the results of Mossbauer spectra, strongly depended on the flow rate. As a result, - was synthesized under the flow rate of 0.1(Vmin)0.15, whereas was synthesized under the , flow rate of 0.15(Vmin)0.2.

Nanocrystalline materials of Ni and Ni-Cu alloy have been synthesized by the pulsed wire evaporation (PWE) method and these abnormal magnetic properties in the magnetic ordered state have been characterized using both VSM and SQUID in the range of high and low magnetic fields. Ni and Ni-Cu particles with an average size of 20 to 80 nm were found to influence magnetic hysterisis behavior and the results of powder neutron diffraction patterns and saturation magnetization curves are shown to indicate the absence of the NiO phase. The shifted hysterisis loop and irreversibility of the magnetization curve in the high field region were observed in the magnetic-ordered state of both Ni and Ni-Cu. The virgin magnetization curve for Ni slightly spillover on the limited hysterisis loop (20kOe). This irreversibility in the high field of 50 kOe can be explained by non-col-linear behavior and the existence of the metastable states of the magnetization at the surface layer (or core) of the particle in the applied magnetic field. Immiscible alloy of Cu-Ni was also found to show irreversibility having two different magnetic phases.
