        The steamed and freeze-dried mature silkworm powder (SMSP) is developed by the Rural Development Administration (RDA) in 2012. In here, the nutritional components of SMSP produced by rearing white-silk cocoon silkworm, Baekokjam, at high temperatures were compared and analyzed with those produced under optimal temperature conditions of 25°C. The weight of silkworms reared in a high-temperature environment increased compared to that under an optimal condition. However, when the silkworms matured, the difference in weight according to temperature conditions narrowed. As for the growth rate, the 5th instar silkworms grew a day earlier in a high-temperature environment than in an optimal. SMSPs produced in a high-temperature environment showed a difference when comparing the nutritional components with the SMSPs in an optimal condition. Overall, high-temperature-reared SMSPs contained about twice as high carbohydrates and slightly lower protein and fat than the optimal-reared SMSPs. These results show that SMSPs produced in a high-temperature environment have a difference in growth rate and nutritional composition from those produced under an optimal condition.

        Hydrogen isotope separation involves the separation of hydrogen, deuterium, tritium, and their isotopologues. It is an essential technology for removing radioactive tritium contamination and for obtaining valuable hydrogen isotope resources. Among various hydrogen isotope separation technologies, water electrolysis technology exhibits a high separation factor. Consequently, the electrolysis of tritiated water is of paramount importance as a tritium enrichment method for treating tritium-contaminated water and for analyzing tritium in environmental samples. More recently, hydroelectrolysis technology, which utilizes proton exchange membranes (PEM) to reduce water inventory, has gained favor over traditional alkaline hydroelectrolysis. Nevertheless, it is crucial to decrease the hydrogen permeability of the PEM in order to mitigate the explosion risk associated with tritium hydrogen electrolysis devices. Additionally, efforts are needed to enhance the hydrogen isotope selectivity of the PEM and optimize the manufacturing process of the membrane-electrode assembly (MEA), thereby improving both hydrogen isotope separation performance and water electrolysis efficiency. In this presentation, we will delve into two key aspects. Firstly, we’ll explore the reduction of hydrogen permeability and the enhancement of the hydrogen isotope separation factor in PEM through the incorporation of 2D nanomaterial additives. Secondly, we’ll examine the influence of various MEAs preparation methods on electrolysis and isotope separation performances. Lastly, we will discuss the effectiveness of the developed system in separating deuterium and tritium.

        해충에 이용되는 화학적 기피제는 생태계를 파괴할 수 있으며 내성을 가진 생물체로의 진화를 촉진한다. 같은 종의 생물끼리의 의사소통 수단인 페로몬을 이용하면 다른 종에게 영향을 미치지 않으면서 특정 곤충에 특이적 으로 작용하는 방충제를 제작할 수 있을 것이라 생각된다. 본 연구는 초파리(Drosophila)의 페로몬 2종류를 추출 하여 초파리의 기피도 및 유인도와 번식률을 확인하고자 한다. ℃, 광주기 12h/12h의 동일한 조건에서 사육하 며 10마리당 헥세인 10를 사용하여 암컷의 표피에서 CHC 페로몬과 수컷의 페로몬샘에서 cVA 페로몬을 추출 한다. 연령, 성별, 교배 여부에 따라 관찰통에 각각의 페로몬을 처리하여 지정구간에 분포하는 초파리의 수를 계수하여 기피도 및 유인도를 확인한다. 관병에 암수 1쌍을 투입하고 하루에 1번 선정한 페로몬을 투여하며 산란 수을 측정한다. 이 연구를 통해 CHC가 수컷 초파리에 대한 기피 효과가 있음을 확인하였으며 추출되는 수컷의 연령이 높을수록 cVA에 의한 번식률 감소가 크게 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해 페로몬을 통한 초파리의 방제 가능성 을 확인하였으므로 다른 곤충의 방제에도 적용할 수 있을 거라 기대한다. 페로몬은 생물 농축과 같은 환경적 영향이 없으며 소량으로 유의미한 결과를 도출했다는 점에서 의의가 있으며 상용화를 통해 해충에 의해 피해를 해결할 수 있을 것이라 기대한다.

        Water electrolysis is an efficient method to enrich heavy hydrogen isotopes (tritium and deuterium) in the aqueous phase. Although an alkaline water electrolyzer has been commercialized for mass production of hydrogen, such a method requires additional purification steps to remove electrolytes from the final concentrates. On the other hand, proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE) does not require additional electrolyte treatment steps, and PEMWE is operated at higher current density compared to the alkaline water electrolysis. In this study, we investigated deuterium and tritium separation from light water by PEMWE. Separation behaviors at the anode and cathode were analyzed, and H/D and H/T separation factors were compared.

        This study investigated the antidiabetic effect of amaranth grain ethanol extract (AEE) in a diabetic animal model, db/db mouse. The mice were divided into 4 groups: normal control mice (C57BL/6J), diabetic mice (C57BL/6J db/db), diabetic mice fed a lower concentration of AEE (0.3 mg/kg), and diabetic mice fed a higher concentration of AEE (0.5 mg/kg). After 10 weeks of treatment, body weights, blood insulin levels and blood glucose levels of each group were compared. At the end of treatment, the results showed that both AEE supplemented groups had lower body weights than those in the diabetic groups although higher than those in the normal groups. Moreover, in both AEE supplemented groups, serum insulin levels were higher and blood glucose levels were lower than those in the diabetic groups although both values were higher than those in the normal groups. The results of this study suggest that AEE can alleviate many of the common symptoms of diabetes in diabetic mice and, therefore, has potential as a therapeutic supplement for normalization of blood glucose and insulin levels in humans.

        Background : Curcuma longa L., in the family Zingiberaceae, is distributed in tropical and/or sub-tropical regions mainly in India and China. This species is commonly called turmeric, powder is used as medicinal herbs and/or flavor enhancer. It has been cultivated in southern region mainly Jindo. However, it might be possible to extend cultivation regions due to rise in average temperature. In order to select superior lines based on agronomic characteristics, we analyzed multivariate and estimated selection effects from C. longa germplasm. Methods and Results : The C. longa germplasm were cultivated in an experimental field located in Eumseong, NIHHS, RDA. The harvested roots were investigated in agronomic characteristics included in yield and then considered its relationship among the 9 germplasm by multivariate analysis method. Results from principal component analysis (PCoA) showed that it represented 70.00% and 80.44% accumulated explanation from four and five principal compounds (PC). PCoA was conducted from 9 agronomic characteristics and then correlation coefficient has been showed by analysis between each main component value and agronomic characteristics. Value of the first PC was 2.25, 24.96% explanation of total dispersion, plant height, number of rootlet and weight of rootlet were correlated with a somewhat higher level as 0.41, 0.43 and 0.52. Value of the fifth PC was 0.94, 10.43% explanation of total dispersion, the number of shoots was correlated with a higher level as 0.87. Selection effects with outstanding candidate lines including higher lines were estimated at 126.13% in yield. Conclusion : These data on multivariate based on agronomic characteristics will be give us invaluable breeding information by selection of superior lines.

        A sweet sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] cultivar was planted on 9 and 30 June 2000 at plant densities of 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 plants m-2 to determine the optimum plant density in Jeju region. There were no significant planting date x plant density interactions for most traits measured. Delaying planting from 9 to 30 June delayed 21 days in heading date, and significantly decreased plant height, the number of productive stems m-2 /, and lodging. Fresh stem yield tended to be higher at the 9 June planting date than at the 30 June planting date, but total sugar and ethanol yields were not significantly affected by planting date. Percentage of soluble solid was higher at the 30 June planting date compared with the 9 June planting date. Fresh stem, total sugar, and ethanol yields quadractically increased from 22.9 to 36.7 t-1 , from 1.66 to 2.54 t-1 , and from 945 to 1440 L-1 , respectively, with increasing plant density. The optimal plant densities for the maximum fresh stem, total sugar, and ethanol were estimated to be 10.7, 9.6, and 9.9 plants m-2 respectively.
