『자서전』에서의 글은 어떤 의미에서 모두 자신의 제2의 자아이며 모든 문학적 근사치로서 (시적, 산문적) 정신의 과감한 깃털 펜으로써 가끔 답할 수 있거 나 흔히 답할 수 없는 것들이다.

호프스태터와 예이츠는 인생의 신비함은 결코 틀리지 않으며, 신비하고, 매혹적이라는 점에 동의하는 것 같아 서로 연관성이 있어보여서 서로 비교하면서 읽게 되었다. 인생의 신비로움을 파헤치는 그들의 노력은 환상적이다. 그러나 읽으면 읽을수록 더 혼란스러워지는 것도 사실인 듯하다. 그러나 거의 따라가는 듯도 하며 책을 다 읽은 지금도 신비의 여운이 감돈다.

예이츠이 시극『그림자 어린 바다』에서 소유의 순간이 어떻게 꿈을 꾸는가? 본 논문은 꿈의 시작과 끝의 요호바적 전환부를 들여다본다. 즉 어떻게 성공적으로, 기교적으로 소유, 대리, 및 위치확정이라는 개념에 근거하여 잡아내기 어려운 불확정적 신비성을 들어내는지를 본다. 또 환각적 꿈꾸기의 중성적 특성을 위한 그의 창의성이 얼마나 유연하며 자연적인지도 본다. 그리고 마지막으로 환각적인 선상의 일련의 사건 들의 결말과 클라이맥스에 우리는 만족하는가? 이에 대한 문제도 검토한다.

예이츠 시의 생사의 신비에 대한 비전 내용을 선불교적 명상을 통해서 시적 공감력을 높인 후, 그의 영생에 대한 영적 문학성을 현대 실험 표현장르인 “서정 에세이(Lyric Essay)” 양식을 빌려서 시적 산문 창작을 해보았다. 명상 대상시는 “재림,” “죽음을 예견한 아이랜드 비행사,” “서커스 동물 탈주,” “레다 여신과 백조”를 중심했다.

본 논문은 예이츠 시 “어린 학생들 속에서”에 나타난 춤과 춤추는 자의 합일성을 시인의 마음의 변화성으로 해석한다. 그 시 의식을 인지론적으로 접근하며, 그 합일성의 정도를 가능세계로 재음미해본다. 예이츠의 시심은 인지적 마음과 감성적 마음, 실행적 마음 중에서 시적 지성과 감성의 조화성만을 드러낸다.

Recent advances in stem cell biology have shown that terminally differentiated somatic cells can be directly converted to the different types of somatic cells such as neurons and cardiomyocytes with defined sets of transcription factors without going through a pluripotent state. Recently, it was demonstrated that the hepatocyte-specific transcription factors, Hnf4α plus Foxa1, Foxa2 or Foxa3 could erase somatic memory and reset hepatocyte program on the differentiated somatic genome. Here, we show that Foxa3 together with Hnf4α could efficiently reprogram fibroblasts into hepatocytes. However, the direct conversion into hepatocytes is not observed with Hnf4α plus Foxa1. After two weeks of retroviral transduction of Hnf4α and Foxa3, we observed epithelial colonies emerged from starting fibroblasts and were able to establish stable hepatocyte cell lines, namely induced hepatocytes (iHep cells). The iHep cells closely resemble primary hepatocytes in a number of characteristics such as their polygonal shapes, the hepatic gene expression patterns and the presence of E-cadherin signals as determined by immunocytochemistry. In addition, iHep cells show the storage of glycogen as revealed by Periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) staining, indicating that iHep cells are functionally similar to their in vivo counterparts. Taken together, our findings suggest that the combination of hepatic transcription factors, Hnf4α with Foxa3 but not Foxa1 could induce hepatocyte fate on the differentiated somatic cells.

The objective of this study was to determine the effect of macrophages on growth of human colon cancer cells. The results showed that co-culture of colon cancer cells with macrophages inhibited the growth of colon cancer cells (HCT116 and SW620) depending on the number of macrophages, RAW 264.7 cells, and activated THP-1 cells accompanied by down regulation of pSTAT3 in cancer cells. We also found that expression and release of cancer cell growth inhibitory cytokines, IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra) and IL-10, was increased in macrophages. Blocking of the STAT3 pathway with specific inhibitor and siRNA of STAT3 abolished the growth of colon cancer cells and expression of IL-1ra and IL-10. In addition, neutralization of IL-1ra and IL-10 with antibodies resulted in reversal of macrophage-induced inhibition of cancer cell growth. These data showed that IL-1ra and IL-10 released from macrophages inhibit growth of colon cancer cells through inhibition of the STAT3 pathway.
