For efficient design and manufacture of PWR spent fuel burnup detector, data simulated with various condition of spent fuel in the NPP storage pool is required. In this paper, to derive performance requirements of spent fuel burnup detector for neutron flux and dose rates were evaluated at various distances from CE16 and WH17 types of fuel, representatively. The evaluation was performed by the following steps. First, the specifications of the spent fuel, such as enrichment, burnup, cooling time, and fuel type, were analyzed to find the conditions that emit maximum radioactivity. Second, gamma and neutron source terms of spent fuel were analyzed. The gamma source terms by actinides and fission products and neutron source terms by spontaneous and (α, n) reactions were calculated by SCALE6 ORIGAMI module. Third, simulation input data and model were applied to the evaluation. The material composition and dose conversion factor were referred as PNNL-15870 and ICRP-74 data, respectively and dose rates were displayed with the MCNP output data. It was assumed that there was only one fuel modeled by MCNP 6.2 code in pool. The evaluation positions for each distance were selected as 5 cm, 10 cm, 25 cm, 50 cm, and 1 m apart from the side of fuel, respectively. Fourth, neutron flux and dose rates were evaluated at distance from each fuel type by MCNP 6.2 code. For WH 17 types with a 50 GWd/MTU burnup from 5 cm distance close to fuel, the maximum neutron flux, gamma dose rates and neutron dose rates are evaluated as 1.01×105 neutrons/sec, 1.41×105 mSv/hr and 1.61×101 mSv/hr, respectively. The flux and dose rate of WH type were evaluated to be larger than those of CE type by difference in number of fuel rods. The relative error for result was less than 3~7% on average secured the reliability. It is expected that the simulated data in this paper could contribute to accumulate the basic data required to derive performance requirements of spent fuel burnup detector.

This paper presents a study on the design and implementation of a secure contactless system leveraging Quick Response (QR) codes as a core component. The main goal of this system is to bridge the gap between strong security and improved user experience within the realm of digital interaction. The system's versatility can be expanded with broad compatibility with a variety of applications. Utility can be expanded to areas such as contactless payments, electronic ticketing, secure identity verification, and convenient access to medical records. The international standardization of QR codes ensures seamless cross-platform compatibility, strengthening their role in the digital ecosystem. We actually create and develop a non-contact security QR code system and check the expandability of the system. This study highlights the pivotal role of QR codes within the realm of secure contactless systems. Through its effective balance of digital security and user convenience, QR codes are emerging as an important element in the continued development of a secure and user-friendly digital environment. The potential for future research lies in exploring more complex use cases and further advancements that improve both security and user-centered design.

The silkworm (Bombyx mori), as an industrial insect, possesses a high economic value. Casual discrimination and accumulated genetic information of silkworm varieties are essential ground for the practical utilization and long-term conservation. In this study, nine available microsatellite loci were successfully genotyped from ~50 silkworm strains preserved in Korea. According to genotyping analysis, we obtained 3 ~ 16 alleles per locus, with an average of 7.4, the observed heterozygosity ranging from 0.04 to 0.98, and the polymorphic information content (PIC) ranging from 0.06 to 0.88, revealing that some loci are highly variable. Among 54 strains 13 strains were casually identified by the presence of 17 strain-specific apomorphic alleles. Furthermore, 30 among remaining strains contained strain-specific allele combinations that are also apomorphic to each strain, allowing us to discriminate each of these from other strains by genotyping of multiple loci. These results collectively suggest that the silkworm microsatellite DNA is actually and potentially important molecular marker for the discrimination of the silkworm strains that are preserved as hundreds in Korea, as more loci are genotyped.

Root knot nematode species, such as Meloidogyne hapla, M. incognita, M. arenaria and M. javanica are economically most notorious nematode pests, causing serious damage to the various crops throughout world. In this study, DNA sequence analyses of the D1-D3 expansion segments of the 28S gene in the ribosomal DNA were conducted to characterize genetic variation of the four Meloidogyne species obtained from Korea and United States. PCR-RFLP (Polymerase Chain Reaction-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism), SCAR (Sequence Characterized Amplified Region) marker and RAPD (Random Amplification of Polymorphic DNA) also were used to develop the methods for exact and rapid species identification. In the sequence analysis of the D1-D3 expansion segments, only a few nucleotide sequence variation were detected among M. incognita, M. arenaria, and M. javanica, except for M. hapla. The PCR-RFLP analysis that involves amplification of the mitochondrial COII and lrRNA region yielded one distinct amplicon for M. hapla at 500 bp, enabling us to distinguish M. hapla from M. incognita, M. arenaria, M. javanica reproduced by obligate mitotic parthenogenesis. SCAR markers successfully identified the four root knot nematode species tested. We are under development of RAPD primers specific to the three root knot nematodes found in Korea.

We have determined the complete mitochondrial genome of the yellow-spotted long horned beetle, Psacothea hilaris (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae), an endangered insect species in Korea. The 15,856-bp long P. hilaris mitogenome harbors gene content typical of the animal mitogenome and a gene arrangement identical to the most common type found in insect mitogenomes. As with all other sequenced coleopteran species, the 5-bp long TAGTA motif was also detected in the intergenic space sequence located between tRNASer (UCN) and ND1 of P. hilaris. The 1,190-bp long non-coding A+T-rich region harbors an unusual series of seven identical repeat sequences of 57-bp in length and several stretches of sequences with the potential to form stem-and-loop structures. Furthermore, it contains one tRNAArg-like sequence and one tRNALys-likes equence. Phylogenetic analysis among available coleopteran mitogenomes using the concatenated amino acid sequences of PCGs appear to support the sister group relationship of the suborder Polyphaga to all remaining suborders, including Adephaga, Myxophaga, and Archostemata. Among the two available infraorders in Polyphaga, a monophyletic Cucujiformia was confirmed, with the placement of Cleroidea as the basal lineage for Cucujiformia. On the other hand, the infraorder Elateriformia was not identified as monophyletic, thereby indicating that Scirtoidea and Buprestoidea are the basal lineages for Cucujiformia and the remaining Elateriformia.

Cloned calves derived from somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) have been frequently lost by sudden death at 1 to 3 month following healthy birth. To address whether placental anomalies are responsible for the sudden death of cloned calves, we compared protein patterns of 2 placentae derived from SCNT of Korean Native calves died suddenly at two months after birth and those of 2 normal placentae obtained from AI fetuses. Placental proteins were separated using 2-Dimensional gel electrophoresis. Approximately 800 spots were detected in placental 2-D gel stained with coomassie-blue. Then, image analysis of Malanie III (Swiss Institute for Bioinformatics) was performed to detect variations in protein spots between normal and SCNT placentae. In the comparison of normal and SCNT samples, 8 spots were identified to be up-regulated proteins and 24 spots to be down-regulated proteins in SCNT placentae, among which proteins were high mobility group protein HMG1, apolipoprotein A-1 precursor, bactenecin 1, tropomyosin beta chain, H+-transporting ATPase, carbonic anhydrase II, peroxiredoxin 2, tyrosine-rich acidic matrix protein, serum albumin precursor and cathepsin D. These results suggested that the sudden death of cloned calves might be related to abnormal protein expression in placenta.
