        본 연구에서는 어린이 기호식품 중 하나인 과자류(과자, 캔디류, 츄잉껌, 빙과류)에 대하여 1,005건(과자 250건, 캔디류 255건, 츄잉껌 250 건, 빙과류 250건)에 대해 위생 지표 미생물인 일반세균 수, 대장균군/대장균과 더불어 식중독 원인균인 바실러스 세레우스, 클로스트리디움 퍼프 린젠스 및 황색포도상구균에 대한 미생물 검사를 실시하였다. 과자류에 대한 일반세균 수의 경우 전체 시료의 26.8%에서 검출되었고, 검출된 세균 수는 1.7 log CFU/g을 나타내었다. 유형별로 살펴보았을 때에는 과자 250건 중 45.2%의 시료에서 검출되었으며, 빙과류 28.8%, 캔디류 20.0% 및 츄잉껌 13.2% 순으로 검출되는 것으로 확인되었다. 다른 위생지표 세균인 대장균군/대장균의 경우는 모든 시료에서 검출되지 않았다. 식중독균을 분석한 결과에서는 캔디류를 제외한 나머지 유형에서 바실러스 세레우스만 검출이 되었고, 평균 검출량은 1.4~1.6 log CFU/g로 현행 식품공전상의 미생물규격인 3 log CFU/g 이하 수준으로 모두 적합한 제품이었다. 이는 식품공전 상에서 정 하고 있는 미생물 규격에 비해서는 낮은 수치로 식품의 제조·유통에는 문제가 없는 것으로 보이지만, 식중독 민감도가 높은 어린이들에게 안전한 식품을 제공하기 위해 합리적이고 과학적인 미생물 기준규격을 고려해야 한다.

        The genus Glischrochilus Reitter, 1873 is characterized by reddish or yellowish markings on their elytra. This genus is belonging to family Nitidulidae Latreille,1802. Five species in this genus: Glischrochilus (Librodor) ipsoides (Reitter, 1879), Glischrochilus (Librodor) japonicus (Motschulsky, 1858), Glischrochilus (Librodor) pantherinus (Reitter, 1879), Glischrochilus (Librodor) parvipustulatus (Kolbe, 1886), Glischrochilus (Librodor) rufiventris (Reitter, 1879) have been recorded in Korea upto now. Additionally, a new recorded species, G. christophi, are recognized from korea. As the results, descriptions and illustrations of adults of totally five species with one newly recorded species in Korea were reviewed herein. A key to Korean species of genus Glischrochilus is also provided.

        Chronic inflammation has long been considered as an important contributing factor to the development of malignant tumors in various tissues. In this study, we aimed to investigate a potential association between chronic periodontitis, a representative inflammatory disease in the oral cavity, and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), the most common form of malignant tumors in the oral cavity. A retrospective study was designed to include the cases and controls, each of which consisted of patients first diagnosed with OSCC and temporomandibular disorders, respectively. The existence or a history of periodontal disease was quantitatively estimated based upon the level of alveolar bone loss (ABL) from panoramic radiographs in these groups. Unlike other covariates, including LDH, WBC count and hemoglobin, the levels of ABL measured at three independent regions (second premolar and first/second molar) were significantly higher in the OSCC group, regardless of the patients’age in most cases. Our results thus support the hypothesis that chronic periodontitis, represented by significant ABL, is an important and clinically relevant factor potentially associated with the development of OSCC.

        Despite many researches related with in-vitro culture of porcine spematogonial stem cells (SSCs), adherent culture system widely used has shown a limitation in the maintenance of porcine SSC self-renewal. Therefore, in order to overcome this obstacle, suspension culture, which is known to have numerous advantage over adherent culture, was applied to the culture of porcine SSCs. Porcine SSCs retrieved from neonatal testes were suspension-cultured for 5 days or 20 days, and characteristics of suspension-cultured porcine SSCs including proliferation, alkaline phosphatase (AP) activity, and self-renewal-specific gene expression were investigated and compared with those of adherent-cul-tured porcine SSCs. As the results, the suspension-cultured porcine SSCs showed entirely non-proliferative and significantly higher rate of AP-positive cells and expression of self-renewal-specific genes than the adherent-cultured porcine SSCs. In addition, long-term culture of porcine SSCs in suspension condition induced significant decrease in the yield of AP staining-positive cells on post-day 10 of culture. These results showed that suspension culture was inappropriate to culture porcine SSCs, because the culture of porcine SSCs in suspension condition didn’t stimulate proliferation and maintain AP activity of porcine SSCs, regardless of culture periods.

        약용식물을 플러그 트레이를 이용하여 공정육묘를 한 연구결과는 거의 없는 실정이다. 세 종류 약용식 물 묘의 생산을 위한 기준을 마련하기 위해 플러그셀 크기가 플러그묘의 생장에 미치는 영향을 구명하기 위하여 본 연구를 수행하였다. 상업용 상토가 들어있는 128, 200, 288구 플러그셀 트레이에 종자를 파종하였다. 세 종류 약용식물은 플러그 셀 크기가 커질수록 생육이 우수하였다. 하나의 플러그 트레이에서 얻어진 총 바이오 매스는 차조기와 산두근은 288구에서 가장 높았고, 참당귀는 200구에서 가장 높았다. 총 엽록소와 안토시아닌 함량을 제외한 차조기의 지상부와 지하부 생장은 128구에서 가장 우수하였다. 하지만 최대근장, 엽장, 엽폭, 엽 면적, 절간장, 뿌리 생체중, 근군형성은 200구와 288구에서 유의한 차이가 없었다. 산두근은 최대근장, 경경, 엽폭, 엽면적, 지상부 생체중, 근군형성을 제외한 모든 생장에서 처리간에 유의한 차이가 없었다. 그러나 최대 근장, 경경, 엽폭, 엽면적, 지상부 생체중, 근군형성은 128구에서 가장 우수하였다. 엽록소 함량을 제외한 참당 귀의 지상부와 지하부의 모든 생장이 128구에서 우수하였다. 경제적인 부분과 총 바이오매스를 고려했을 때 차조기와 산두근은 288구에서 육묘하는 것이 좋고, 참당귀는 200구에서 육묘하는 것을 권장한다.

        This study was carried out to know some regional gene difference in carabid beetle, Coptolabrus jankowskii. There are eight subspecies in this species from Korea and it was too difficult to identify by morphological similarity. The mitochondrial ND5 (NADH dehydrogenase subunit 5) gene of Coptolabrus jankowskii from four regions of (Sangju, Daegu, Mt. Jumbong and Jeju island) was compared. The results showed the differences of the base sequence of total 57 sites and the amino acid variation of the 25 sites. The Neighbor-joining tree and Maximum parsimony tree were established based on sequence data of the ND5. In NJ tree, the Jeju area except Songdangri, and Mt. Jeombong region showed close relationship group. In the case of Maximum parsimony tree, the result divided to three separated group, the first connected group was Jeju Songdangri area and the other the Korean peninsula region except Mt. Jeombong. Others were Jeju area except Songdangri, and Mt. Jeombong region.

        Chronic inflammation is widely considered to predispose individuals to cancer. Microorganisms facilitate recruitment and activation of inflammatory cells and thus allow release of inflammatory mediators. These molecules can then promote accumulation of mutations, leading to tumor development in the host. Porphyromonas gingivalis, a pathogen causing chronic periodontitis, is detected in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) tissues. Considering a strong link between chronic inflammation and tumor development, functional consequences of P. gingivalis infection may include malignant transformation of the host cells. In this study, we monitored transcriptional changes induced by invasion of P. gingivalis in OSCC cells using microarrays. Our preliminary results suggest changes in a wide range of genes involved in inflammation, apoptosis and autophagy, tumor progression, and carcinogenesis. Further studies on molecular mechanisms underlying these changes will lay a useful foundation to elucidate the role of microorganism-related inflammation and for the development of preventive and therapeutic agents for oral cancer.

        The genus Sphaeroderma Baly, comprising over 165 species, is distributed mainly in Palaeotropical superregion and a few species are also known from Neotropical region. Seventy-four species in Palearctic region. In Korea a total of 5 species were known by Lee & An (2001), An (2011). In this paper, we report Sphaeroderma seriatum Baly for the first time in the Korean fauna. We provide the habitus photographs, illustrations of diagnostic features and a key to the genus in Korea. Up to now 6 species of Sphaeroderma have been recorded from the Korea, including the present species.

        본 실험은 식물공장시스템에서 인공광원인 백색 LED의 광도와 광주기에 따른 ‘선홍적축면’의 생육조건을 구명하고자 수행하였다. 그리고 각각의 챔버에 백색 LED 를 설치 후 완전임의배치법으로 20cm × 20cm 간격으로 재식하였다. 광도는 100, 200, 300μmol · m−2 · s−1로 처리 하였고, 광주기는 12/12, 18/6, 24/0(명기/암기)으로 처리하였다. 온도는 21 ± 2oC, 상대습도는 60 ± 10%로 조절 하여 22일간 재배하였다. 엽폭과 엽장, 생체중과 건물중, 총 안토시아닌 함량은 24/0(명기/암기) 처리에서 좋았다. 최대근장, 생체중과 건물중, 엽수는 100, 300μmol · m−2 · s−1보다 200μmol · m−2 · s−1 처리에서 좋았다. 엽록소는 광주기 18/6과 24/0 처리 보다 12/12(명기/암기) 처리에서 높았다. 본 실험의 결과로 광도는 200, 300μmol · m−2 · s−1, 광주기는 12/12 또는 18/6(명기/암기) 처리를 하는 것이 좋을 것으로 판단된다.

        The genus Phyllotreta Chevrolat belonging to the subfamily Alticinae (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae). One of the largest alticine genera with approximately 150 species in the Palearctic region and more than 250 species worldwide. In Korea a total of 6 species were known by Lee and An (2001). New species of Phyllotreta Chevrolat, 1837 are described: P. hamata Park sp. nov. from South Korea. The relationships of the new species with the actual species groups of Phyllotreta are discussed. Also, illustrations of diagnostic characteristics of the new species including male aedeagus and spermatheca are provided with a key to South Korean Phyllotreta species. Up to now 7 species of Phyllotreta have been recorded from the South Korea, including the present species.

        It is known that oocytes can be activated without male contribution in vitro and develop to blastocysts which are used to isolate parthenogenetic embryonic stem (ES) cells. Differentiation capacity of the parthenogentic ES cells was rather lower than that of fertilized embryos derived ES cells, which might be the result of the absence of male genome. However, parthenogenetic ES cells might be useful research tool for genetic engineering and generating SCNT embryo derived ES cells. In our previous study, we reported that establishment of several bovine ES cell lines from in vitro fertilized (IVF) embryos named JNU-ibES. Based on this data, the objective of this study is to generate parthenogenetic ES cells and to examine their stem cell characteristics. Total 107 parthenogenetic embryos produced at day 8 or 9 were classified into their developmental stages (full expanded x 40, hatched x 67). For producing ES cells, ICM and trophetoderm-rich clumps were mechanically dissociated and were cultured on mitomycin- C treated mouse embryonic fibroblast feeder cell drop and covered with mineral oil in DMEM medium containing 20% FBS, 5 ng/ml basic FGF, 1% nonessential amino acids, and 0.55 mM b-mercaptoethanol. We obtained 20 primary parthenogenetic bovine ES (pbES)-like cell colonies. And pbES colony formation was higher in hatched blastocyst (25.4%, 16/67) than expanded blastocysts (10%, 4/40). Among those colonies, 5 pbES cell lines were successfully established and they were named as a series of JNU-pbES. These pbES cells were positively expresssed pluripotency markers such as Oct4, Nanog, TRA-1-81, SSEA-1 and alkaline phosphatase. This result demonstrated that the establishment efficiency and characteristics of pbES cell line was very similar to those of ibES cell line.

        Cancer cells are often found in an ischemic condition due to the rapid outgrowth of their vascular supply, and these cells are expected to develop an increased potential for local invasive growth. Since the first steps are characterized by increased motility and invasiveness, expression of molecules involved in cellular adhesion to extracellular matrix (ECM) is increased in the process of cancer cell invasion and metastasis. In this work we explored the molecular characteristics and its regulatory mechanism of hypoxic oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cells. Our experiment identified that hypoxia increases α5 integrin protein levels through phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt pathway in OSCC cells.

        Among the Coleoptera, case bearing is found in four related subfamilies of the Chrysomelidae, the so-called Camptosomates: Clytrinae, Cryptocephalinae, Chlamisinae, and Lamprosomatinae (Böving and Craighead, 1931). Adults of casebearing chrysomelids feed on foliage of a variety of eudicots (Erber, 1988), but their larvae often show departures from strict phytophagy. Besides those with true herbivore larvae, that feed on green plant parts and complete development on the host plant, the larvae of most species live on the ground, in leaf litter, and feed on dry vegetable material and detritus (Erber, 1988; Brown and Funk, 2005). The larvae of some clytrine species live in ant nests (Erber, 1988; Brothers et al., 2000), but besides these mirmecophiles, many other clytrine larvae live in leaf litter and some few others on plants (Erber, 1988; Jolivet, 1988). The genus Smaragdina Chevrolat is distributed in the Paleoarctic region, and in the Oriental region (Chûjô & Kimoto, 1961; Erber & Medvedev, 1999; Gök, 2003; Maican, 2005, 2006). Forth-three Smaragdina species are distributed throughout northeast Asia, from Korea to Japan (Gressitt & Kimoto, 1961; Kimoto & Takizawa, 1994, 1997). In Korea a total of 5 species were known by Lee and An (2001). Recently, Smaragdina nipponensis Chûjô is newly recorded by Park et al. (2011). However, for the clytrine larvae has never been studied from Korea. The present study contains the description of the egg and first instar larva of S. nipponensis with notes on biology of adults and larvae, observes in natural conditions and in laboratory.

        절화 나리의 고랭지 여름 재배시 정식시기에 따른 절화의 품질과 수확시기를 알아보고자 수행되었다. 정식시기를 5월 15일, 6월 5일, 6월 15일, 7월 15일로 나누어 정식하고, 종구원을 수입과 국내에서 양구 된 종구로 나누어 30% 차광망을 피복한 비가림하우스내에 정식하였다. 재배한 결과 5월 15일과 6월 25 일이 수량 및 품질이 가장 좋았으며 정식시기가 가장 늦은 7월 15일의 경우는 정식시기 시 고온에 영향 을 받아 수량 및 품질이 매우 떨어졌다. 전체적인 생육 및 수량에서 수입종구와 국산종구는 수입종구가 다소 우수하나 유의차는 없었다. 정식시기에 따른 수확기가 8월 중순경부터 10월 하순까지 계속되어 대 일 수출시 분산정식에 의한 월별 생산이 가능할 것으로 기대되었다. 그러나 7월 초순 이후의 고온기에는 차광 외에 다른 방법을 추가하여야 안정적인 생산이 가능할 것으로 판단된다.
