We report here the new species, Aphaenogaster koreana sp. nov. first fossil record of alate reproductive female (gyne) Aphaenogaster from Eastern Palaearctic region on the basis of forewing venation and other external morphologies. Single fossil specimen was discovered from the Duho Formation of the Middle Miocene (c.a 15 Ma), Pohang, Republic of Korea. For accurate identification, we selected extant Aphaenogaster species for reference and compared wing venations and body measurements to new species. Furthermore, we suggest previously recorded Aphaenogaster species from Miocene Grubstake Formation of Alaska (UAF-GS23, UAF-GS24) removed from the genus and remained in unplaced species in the Myrmicinae (incerta sedis). Because of similarity between genus Aphaenogaster and Paraphaenogaster which shares morphological similarities, we provide comparison between the new species and the other known gyne Aphaenogaster and Paraphaenogaster. Diagnostic characters for gynes of Aphaenogaster are also provided
We report here one species, Ampelodesmus cf. granulosus myrmecophilus millipede (Pyrgodesmidae) collected fromcolonies of Brachyponera chinensis (Formicidae: Hymenopera). The family Pyrgodesmidae contained over 500 speciesdistribute mainly in tropics (Shear, 2011). Some species are found only in ant colonies, and are considered obligate myrmecophiles(Stoev et al. 2005). Myrmecophilus pyrgodesmid millipedes are known to scavenger as they feed on debris of host ants.Largely unknown is how millipedes can avoid from aggression of host ants, but host ants completely ignoring their invader(Komatsu, unpublished data). Two genera and four species of family Pyrgodesmidae were known from Japan which werecompletely unknown from South Korea. In this study, we provide description, especially gonopods of male, host informationand breeding records of Ampelodesmus cf. granulosus.
As a candidate for lead-free piezoelectric materials, dense (NKN-5LT) ceramics were developed by conventional sintering process. Sintering temperature was lowered by adding as a sintering aid. The electrical properties of NKN-5LT ceramics were investigated as a function of concentration. At the addition of 1 mol% , electromechanical coupling factor and piezoelectric coefficient of NKN-5LT ceramics were found to reach the highest values of 0.37 and 250 pC/N, respectively.
Gluten proteins play a key role in the unique baking quality of wheat by determining the water absorption capacity, cohesivity, viscosity, and elasticity of the dough. However, gluten from wheat, barley, rye, and oat can induce gluten sensitivity as well as celiac disease in susceptible populations. Hence, the gluten levels in foods labeled “gluten free” should be monitored. In this study, gluten-containing samples (sample: 600 g, water: 390 g) were treated with the commercial enzyme Protamex® (0.1-0.3% of sample weight) for 1-4 h and then measured with three ELISA kits. In the more viscous sample after treatment with 0.1% Protamex® for 1 h, the measured gluten contents were 1,802.6, 1,718.6, and 1,698.7 mg/kg using the G12, GLUTEN-CHECK, and Wheat/gluten (Gliadin) ELISA kits, respectively. The sample treated with 0.3% enzyme for 4 h had a lower viscosity (32.2 cps), and all three kits gave its gluten content as around 8.4 mg/g. When gluten breaks down, it does not act as gluten and its degradation is due to the enzyme. However, even when Protamex® was used at the same concentration for the same time, the measured values seem to be different for samples with and without the final heating treatment.
Purpose - The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) among 16 countries including South Korea, the largest free trade agreement in the Asia-Pacific region, will be concluded next year. The participating countries decided to pursue a comprehensive and high –quality agreement, while ensuring flexibility considering development level of each country. In this study, trade structures between nations from 2005 through 2016 were examined to see the impact that this agreement will have on Korea and to come up with effective countermeasures. Research design, data, and methodology - The method of analysis includes the analysis of the trade matrix, which is useful for identifying the dependency of the individual countries on the market in the region and the reciprocal dependency of the member countries on the market, and the index of intensity of trade, which is useful for figuring out the share of trade between the parties in total trade. Results - The results showed that first, the international trade coefficients of Vietnam and Philippines are higher than those of China and Japan. Secondly, the international inducement coefficients between China and Japan were high, and that between Indonesia and Burma were low, indicating that Korea's exports did not have much effect on export increase of these countries. Third, as a result of analyzing Korea's trade intensity, it was found that export intensity and import intensity were greater than 1 in Vietnam and Philippines, which shows that there is a high degree of relational bond with these countries. India and Laos countries still have a low level of relational bond, which indicates that there is room for improvement in economic relations when the agreement is concluded. After the signing of the agreement in the future, more diverse industrial structures should be continuously studied.
Conclusions - The analysis of trade matrix, trade structure, trade inducement coefficient and trade intensity between Korea and RCEP participating countries shows that the majority of the countries have the high level of economic relationship with Korea. Korea should drive a harder bargain when negotiating the terms of the RCEP, in comparison with the level of the existing FTA agreement excluding Japan.
In this study, β-1,3/1,6-glucan, lactic acid bacteria, and β-1,3/1,6-glucan+lactic acid bacteria were tested for 10 weeks using an immunodeficient animal model infected with LP-BM5 murine AIDS virus On the immune activity. Cytokines production, plasma immunoglobulin concentration, T cell and B cell proliferation were measured. As a result, the T cell proliferative capacity which was weakened by immunization with LP-BM5 murine AIDS virus increased significantly T cell proliferative capacity compared with the red ginseng control group. B cell proliferative capacity was significantly higher than the infected control group. Increased B cell proliferation was reduced. In the cytokine production, IL-2, IL-12 and IL-15 in the Th1-type cytokine increased the secretion of IL-2, IL-12 and IL-15 compared to the infected control. The proliferative capacity of the treated group was higher than that of the mixed treatment group. TNF-α was significantly decreased compared with the infected control group. The IL-4, IL-6 and IL-10 levels were significantly inhibited in the infected control group and the Th1/Th2 type cytokine expression was regulated by immunohistochemistry. IgE, IgA, and IgG levels were significantly lower in the immunoglobulin secretion assay than in the control. As a result, the immunomodulatory effect of β-1,3/1,6-glucan+lactic acid bacteria was confirmed by mixing with LP-BM5 murine AIDS virus-infected immunodeficient animal model.
