        The insecticidal activities of 27 different commercial products with environmentally friendly organic material (EFOM) against Scotinophara lurida, a major rice pest, were evaluated in the laboratory using spraying methods on plants and insects. Seven plant-derived organic farming materials (EFOM-8, -10, -12, -13, -19, -20, and -26) with high insecticidal effects when sprayed directly on the insect’s body rather than on the plant were selected. In the indoor rice pot test, all 7 EFOMs showed an insecticidal rate of over 73.3% under irrigated conditions. Notably, EFOM-13 and EFOM-20 demonstrated much higher insecticidal rates, ranging from 1.5 to 1.8 times, in irrigated conditions compared to drained conditions. In the semi-paddy field test, EFOM-10 (80% garlic extract), EFOM- 13 (62% neem extract), and EFOM-26 (70% sophora extract+28% ethyl alcohol+2% pyrethrum extract) exhibited a higher control value of 88.9% in the irrigated paddy on the 7th day, surpassing the control values in the drained paddy by 1.4 to 1.9 times. The control value in the irrigated rice paddy field sprayed with EFOM-10 reached 86.2% on the 7th day, which was 1.4 times higher than 61.9% in the drained paddy. Taken together, the findings suggest that direct contact of the insect’s body with sufficient amounts of spray solution and the maintenance of paddy irrigation can enhance the controlling effect of EFOMs. These findings will be valuable in developing an optimal S. luridacontrol strategy for application in rice paddy fields in the near future.

        Considering the characteristics of aldehydes among volatile organic compounds, a combined process was established by linking an absorbent and a photocatalytic reactor. Experiments to find the optimal operating conditions of the combined process showed that as the amount of photocatalyst coating increases, the wavelength of the ultraviolet lamp used becomes shorter, the photodegradation rate becomes faster, and the removal efficiency increases. It was also demonstrated that by controlling the relative humidity during the connection process of the combined process, the re-evaporation phenomenon at the front end (absorption area) of the hybrid process can be improved and the removal efficiency at the back end (photocatalytic reaction area) can be significantly enhanced. This confirmed the need for a combined process that complements the advantages and disadvantages of each process.

        Dissolved organic matter (DOM) is a key component in the biogeochemical cycling in freshwater ecosystem. However, it has been rarely explored, particularly complex river watershed dominated by natural and anthropogenic sources, such as various effluent facility and livestock. The current research developed a new analytical method for TOC/TN (Total Organic Carbon/Total Nitrogen) stable isotope ratio, and distinguish DOM source using stable isotope value (δ13C-DOC) and spectroscopic indices (fluorescence index [FI] and biological index [BIX]). The TOC/TN-IR/MS analytical system was optimized and precision and accuracy were secured using two international standards (IAEA-600 Caffein, IAEA-CH-6 Sucrose). As a result of controlling the instrumental conditions to enable TOC stable isotope analysis even in low-concentration environmental samples (<1 mgC L-1), the minimum detection limit was improved. The 12 potential DOM source were collected from watershed, which includes top-soils, groundwater, plant group (fallen leaves, riparian plants, suspended algae) and effluent group (pig and cow livestock, agricultural land, urban, industry facility, swine facility and wastewater treatment facilities). As a result of comparing characteristics between 12 sources using spectroscopic indices and δ13C-DOC values, it were divided into four groups according to their characteristics as a respective DOM sources. The current study established the TOC/TN stable isotope analyses system for the first time in Korea, and found that spectroscopic indices and δ13C-DOC are very useful tool to trace the origin of organic matter in the aquatic environments through library database.

        폴리벤즈이미다졸(PBI) 기반의 막은 내구성이 우수한 네트워크 구조를 가지는 구조재료로서의 우수한 강성과 더 불어서 고온에서의 우수한 내열성, 우수한 기계적 및 인장 특성, 높은 유리전이온도(Tg), 물이 없는 무수 환경에서의 이온 전 도성능, 산화와 화학적 내구성으로 지난 20년 동안 다양한 용도의 대중적인 막 재료로 다양한 문헌에서 보고되어 왔다. 이온 전도성 PBI 기반 막은 고온용 양이온 교환막 연료 전지(HT-PEMFC)에서 광범위하게 사용되어왔다. 또한 PBI 기반 막은 독 특한 특성으로 인해 기체분리막 및 유기용매나노여과(OSN) 막 개발에서 광범위하게 사용되어왔다. 이번 리뷰에서는 고온용 연료전지, 기체분리 및 OSN 적용을 위한 다양한 유형의 PBI 기반 막의 최근 연구동향 및 적용가능성에 대해 설명하고자 한다.

        본 연구는 무안만 조간대의 대형저서생물 군집구조와 퇴적물의 유기물 분포특성과의 관계를 알아보기 위해서 수행되었다. 2019년 8월에 21개 정점에서 퇴적층을 채취하여 입도 및 유기 물 함량(강열감량과 총유기탄소함량)을 분석하였다. 또한 대형저서동물을 분류하고 분포특성을 조사하였다. 조간대 퇴적층의 입도는 무안만 북측 내만이 비교적 조립하였고, 만 입구 주변 은 주로 실트질의 특성을 보였다. 유기물 함량(강열감량과 총유기탄소함량)은 목포 지역 근처 에 위치한 정점 10에서 가장 높았으며, 만의 북측에 위치한 정점 20이 가장 낮았다. 출현한 대형저서동물 중 10% 이상의 점유율을 보인 종은 기수우렁이류(Assiminea sp.), 종밋(Musculista senhousia), 비틀이고둥(Cerithideopsilla cingulata)이었고, 고리버들갯지렁이(Heteromastus filiformis) 4종이었다. 정점 10에서 전체 정점과 비교하여 최대 종수와 밀도를 보였다. 출현종을 토대로 집괴분석과 다차원척도법을 실시한 결과 무안만 조간대는 총 4그룹으로 구분되었다. 상관분석 결과 총유기탄소함량과 생물밀도는 유의한 상관관계(p<0.05)를 보였다. 본 연구결과 에 의해 무안만 조간대에 있어서 대형저서동물 분포는 입도 및 유기물 함량에 따라 다양하게 나타나는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

        This study aimed to investigate the effect of Liriope platyphylla and organic acids on enteric methane mitigation in goats using an open-circuit simplified respiration chamber system. Methane recovery was evaluated by injecting 3% standard methane gas for 30 min at 3 L/min. The percentage of methane recovery from the four chambers was 99±5.4%. Following the recovery test, an animal experiment was conducted using eight castrated Boer goats (body weight 46.6±7.77 kg) using a 2×2 crossover design. Experimental diets were as follows: 1) Control (CON), commercial concentrate and tall fescue, and 2) Treatment (MIX), concentrate supplemented with L. platyphylla and organic acids and tall fescue. Goats were offered feed at 2% of body weight (dry matter basis) in equal portions twice daily at 8:00 and 15:30. The goats were adapted to the feed and methane chamber for 10 and 3 days, respectively. Methane emission was measured one day per goat using tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy, and temperature and airflow measurements were used to estimate methane emissions. Dry matter intake (DMI), body weight, and methane emission were measured during each period. Methane production with CON and MIX was 24.48 and 22.68 g/d, respectively, and 26.81 and 24.83 g/kg DMI, respectively. Although the differences were not significant, the use of supplements resulted in a numerical reduction in methane in MIX compared with CON. Collaboration with experts in other areas, including various engineering departments, is imperative to measure methane emissions using a chamber system accurately.
