        본 연구는 계절별 배추 원료의 최적 절임 조건 및 저장성 연구를 위한 기초 자료 제공을 위하여 계절별 절임배추의 물리화학적 및 미생물학적 특성 조사와 이들 특성의 상관성을 조사하였다. 계절별(봄배추, 여름배추, 가을배추 및 겨울배추) 절임배추의 pH와 적정산도의 경우 가을배추 시료가 6.02±0.04와 0.15±0.01%로 다른 계절의 절임배추 시료보다 pH는 약간 높고 적정산도는 약간 낮았다. 가용성 고형분 함량은 월동배추가 7.76±0.39%로 가장 높았고, 염도 함량은 계절별로 유의적인 차이가 없었다. 총균수의 경우 여름배추가 다른 계절의 배추보다 유의적으로 많은 균수가 있었고 색도는 유의적인 차이가 없었다. 조직감의 경우 경도(firmness)는 봄배추가 가장 높은 4.92±0.06 kgf였고, 단단한 정도(hardness)는 여름 배추가 11.71±0.53 kgf로 가장 높게 측정되었다. 한편 계절별 절임배추의 품질 특성간 상관관계를 분석한 결과 계절별 절임배추와 가용성 고형분 함량, 경도와 1% 유의수준 유의적인 상관성이 있었다. 또 주성분 분석 결과 첫 번째 주성분(F1)과 두 번째 주성분(F2)는(은) 전체 데이터의 각각 35.59%와 27.28%의 설명력을 보여 주었고, 총설명력은 62.87%였다. 주성분 F1은 계절, 밝기, 가용성 고형분 함량, 배추 두께, 총균수와 젖산균 수였고, 주성분 F2는 절임배추의 피크 개수였다. 계절별 절임배추의 품질 특성을 바탕으로 계층적 군집분석 결과 봄배추, 여름배추 그리고 가을과 월동 배추로 3그룹으로 나뉘었다. 이상의 결과에서 계절별 절임배추의 경우 물리화학적 및 미생물학적 품질 특성에 차이가 있음을 확인하였고, 품질 균일화와 고품질의 절임배추를 연중 생산하기 위해서는 각 계절별 배추의 품질 특성과 절임 적성에 관한 많은 연구가 필요하다고 사료된다.

        The key objective of this study was to evaluate trophic state and empirical water quality models along with analysis of fish trophic guilds in relation to water chemistry (N, P). Trophic state index (TSI), based on total phosphorus (TP) and chlorophyll-a (CHL), ranged between oligotrophic and hypereutrophic state, by the criteria of Nürnberg(1996), and was lower than the trophic state of total nitrogen (TN). Trophic relations of Secchi depth (SD), TN, TP, and CHL were compared using an empirical models of premonsoon (Pr), monsoon (Mo), and postmonsoon (Po). The model analysis indicated that the variation in water transparency of Secchi depth (SD) was largely accounted (p < 0.001, range of R2 : 0.76–0.80) by TP during the seasons of Mo and Po and that the variation of CHL was accounted (p < 0.001, R2 = 0.70) up to 70% by TP during the Po season. The eutrophication tendency, based on the TSITP vs. TSIN:P were predictable (R2 ranged 0.85–0.90, p < 0.001), slope and y intercept indicated low seasonal variability. In the mean time, TSIN:P vs. TSICHL had a monsoon seasonality in relation to values of TSIN:P during the monsoon season due to a dilution of reservoir waters by strong monsoon rainfall. Trophic compositions of reservoir fish reflected ambient contents of TN, TP, and CHL in the reservoir waters. Thus, the proportions of omnivore fish increased with greater trophic conditions of TP, TN and CHL and the proportions of insectivore fish decreased with greater trophic conditions.

        In this study, the variations of the carbon dioxide fluxes were investigated with soil temperatures in the grassplot and seasonal variations of carbon dioxide concentrations and fluxes were analysed. Soil temperatures, carbon dioxide concentrations and fluxes were measured on the grassplot in Pukyong National University. Field measurements were carried out 25 times from March in 2010 to March in 2011 with nine points on the grassplot. Seasonal variations of carbon dioxide concentrations and fluxes showed an inverse relation. In summer, carbon dioxide concentrations are lower and carbon dioxide fluxes are higher. In winter, carbon dioxide concentrations are higher and carbon dioxide fluxes are lower. On the grassplot, carbon dioxide emission rate increase when the soil temperature is more than 20℃ and the emission rate decrease when the soil temperatures are less than 10℃. When the accumulated rainfall for five days before measurement day is 20~100 mm, it is showed that the more rainfall, the more carbon dioxide emissions. Carbon dioxide emission rate from the grassplot to the upper atmosphere was increased or decreased by the factors such as soil temperature, growth and wither of grass and rainfall. The results of this study showed that the emission of carbon dioxide in the grassplot is dominantly controlled by seasonal factors (especially soil temperature and rainfall).

        Seasonal and stational variation of SS and COD were investigated from February 2008 to December 2010 and the relationship between them was discussed. During three years monitoring, SS decreased significantly (46% decline) possibly due to the increase of precipitation and thereby resulting salinity drop. COD on average was the highest in 2009. SS was the highest in autumn and the lowest in winter, and over 72% of SS was FSS. While SS is high in the upper sampling stations of the bay with shallow water, COD values do not show any relationship to the geomorphological characteristics. CODins, which was defined as COD after filtration, ranged 56%(winter) ~ 44.6%(summer) and showed no correlation with SS. It indicates that high SS concentration is not necessarily related to the high CODins. The seasonal CODins/SS data, which can be interpreted as COD density in SS, shows that SS in winter contains the dense COD materials compared to the other seasons.

        In this study, spatio-temporal patterns of seasonal precipitation and extreme precipitation events around Mt. Halla (1,950m) and their associations with elevation and aspect are examined based on daily precipitation data for the recent decade(2003~2012) observed at 24 weather stations in Jeju Island. Regression analyses show that annul total precipitation and the annual frequency of extreme precipitation events exceeding 80mm of daily precipitation increase with height by approximately 242mm/100m and 1.0day/100m, respectively. Seasonally, extreme precipitation events over the high mountain area mostly occur in summer (June~August) and also appear in other seasons including winter (December~February). The frequency of annual or seasonal extreme precipitation events as well as precipitation is higher in the southeastern or northeastern slope than in the southwestern or northwestern slope of Mt. Halla. These patterns are associated with the flow direction of moist air that ascends the slope of Mt. Halla when anticlockwise circulation of low pressure systems prevails. These findings provide primary information for developing the proactive strategies to mitigate potential flooding in the low-elevated coastal areas by extreme precipitation events over Mt. Halla

        To identify seasonal and latitudinal variations of F2 layer during magnetic storm, we examine the change of daily averages of foF2 observed at Kokubunji and Hobart during high (2000~2002) and low (2006~2008) solar activity intervals. It is found that geomagnetic activity has a different effect on the ionospheric F2-layer electron density variation for different seasons and different latitudes. We, thus, investigate how the change of geomagnetic activity affects the ionospheric F2-layer electron density with season and latitude. For this purpose, two magnetic storms occurred in equinox (31 March 2001) and solstice (20 November 2003) seasons are selected. Then we investigate foF2, which are observed at Kokubunji, Townsville, Brisbane, Canberra and Hobart, Dst index, Ap index, and AE index for the two magnetic storm periods. These observatories have similar geomagnetic longitude, but have different latitude. Furthermore, we investigate the relation between the foF2 and the [O]/[N2] ratio and TEC variations during 19-22 November 2003 magnetic storm period. As a result, we find that the latitudinal variations of [O]/[N2] ratio and TEC are closely related with the latitudinal variation of foF2. Therefore, we conclude that the seasonal and latitudinal variations of foF2 during magnetic storm are caused by the seasonal and latitudinal variations of mean meridional circulation of the thermosphere, particularly upwelling and downwelling of neutral atmosphere during magnetic storm.

        This study was conducted to investigate the seasonal variation characteristics of phytoncide in trail of Ulsan Metropolitan. Air samples were collected from May to December 2011. They were collected using Tenax Ta tube and phytoncides were detected and quantified using a Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer (GC/MSD). This study are summarized as follows; The seasonal concentrations of phytoncide are Munsu Mt. 272.3 ㎍/㎥, Samho Mt. 192.4 ㎍/㎥, Shinbul Mt. 50.9 ㎍/㎥, Sibli Bamboo forest 22.4 ㎍/㎥ and Joongbu Fire Station 24.4 ㎍/㎥. In Munsu Mt., Samho Mt. and Shinbul Mt. major component ratio is α-Pinene >β-Pinene+Myrcene >Limonene >Camphene >γ-Terpinene >α-Terpinene. Bamboo forest and Joongbu fire station major component ratio is α-Pinene >Limonene >β-Pinene+Myrcene >Camphene >α-Terpinene. The variation of seasonal concentration is summer >spring >fall >winter. The phytoncide concentration of coniferous forest(Munsu Mt., Samho Mt.) is higher than broadleaf forest(Shinbul Mt.).

        Reliable long-term streamflow forecasting is invaluable for water resource planning and management which allocates water supply according to the demand of water users. It is necessary to get probabilistic forecasts to establish risk-based reservoir operation policies. Probabilistic forecasts may be useful for the users who assess and manage risks according to decision-making responding forecasting results. Probabilistic forecasting of seasonal inflow to Andong dam is performed and assessed using selected predictors from sea surface temperature and 500 hPa geopotential height data. Categorical probability forecast by Piechota's method and logistic regression analysis, and probability forecast by conditional probability density function are used to forecast seasonal inflow. Kernel density function is used in categorical probability forecast by Piechota's method and probability forecast by conditional probability density function. The results of categorical probability forecasts are assessed by Brier skill score. The assessment reveals that the categorical probability forecasts are better than the reference forecasts. The results of forecasts using conditional probability density function are assessed by qualitative approach and transformed categorical probability forecasts. The assessment of the forecasts which are transformed to categorical probability forecasts shows that the results of the forecasts by conditional probability density function are much better than those of the forecasts by Piechota's method and logistic regression analysis except for winter season data.

        Reliable long-term streamflow forecasting is invaluable for water resource planning and management which allocates water supply according to the demand of water users. Forecasting of seasonal inflow to Andong dam is performed and assessed using statistical methods based on hydrometeorological data. Predictors which is used to forecast seasonal inflow to Andong dam are selected from southern oscillation index, sea surface temperature, and 500 hPa geopotential height data in northern hemisphere. Predictors are selected by the following procedure. Primary predictors sets are obtained, and then final predictors are determined from the sets. The primary predictor sets for each season are identified using cross correlation and mutual information. The final predictors are identified using partial cross correlation and partial mutual information. In each season, there are three selected predictors. The values are determined using bootstrapping technique considering a specific significance level for predictor selection. Seasonal inflow forecasting is performed by multiple linear regression analysis using the selected predictors for each season, and the results of forecast using cross validation are assessed. Multiple linear regression analysis is performed using SAS. The results of multiple linear regression analysis are assessed by mean squared error and mean absolute error. And contingency table is established and assessed by Heidke skill score. The assessment reveals that the forecasts by multiple linear regression analysis are better than the reference forecasts.

        The geomagnetic activity shows the semiannual variation stronger in vernal and autumnal equinoxes than in summer and winter solstices. The semiannual variation has been explained by three main hypotheses such as Axial hypothesis, Equinoctial hypothesis, and Russell-McPherron Effect. Many studies using the various geomagnetic indices have done to support three main hypotheses. In recent, Oh & Yi (2011) examined the solar magnetic polarity dependency of the geomagnetic storm occurrence defined by Dst index. They reported that there is no dependency of the semiannual variation on the sign of the solar polar fields. This study examines the solar magnetic polarity dependency of quiet time geomagnetic activity. Using Dxt index (Karinen & Mursula 2005) and Dcx index (Mursula & Karinen 2005) which are recently suggested, in addition to Dst index, we analyze the data of three-year at each solar minimum for eight solar cycles since 1932. As a result, the geomagnetic activity is stronger in the period that the solar magnetic polarity is anti-parallel with the Earth’s magnetic polarity. There exists the difference between vernal and autumnal equinoxes regarding the solar magnetic polarity dependency. However, the difference is not statistically significant. Thus, we conclude that there is no solar magnetic polarity dependency of the semiannual variation for quiet time geomagnetic activity.

        The monthly variations of blood characteristics and RNA/DNA of black sea bream, Acanthopagrus schlegeli, habituated in Geojae costal area were analysed to determine health condition of natural stocks in terms of gonad maturation and spawning season from March 2010 to February 2011. Spawning season determinated by gonadosomatic index is from June to August. RNA/DNA ratio of black sea bream muscle was strongly correlated with spawning season. During the gonad maturation RNA/DNA ratio in dorsal muscle tissue was decreased contrast to rapid increase during spawning season. Blood composition factors increased in terms of gonad maturation are aspartate aminotransferase, cholesterol, triglyceride, total protein, glucose, globulin, alkaline phosphatase and inorganic phosphate. Other blood factors increased during spawning season are alanine aminotransferase, blood urea nitrogen, uric acid and lactate dehydrogenase.

        극만기 벼 재배시 적응 품종을 선택할 때 7월 30일 전후의 이앙시기에서 불시출수 현상을 보이지 않으면서 적당한 출엽수를 확보하는 품종 특성을 구비해야 하는데 금오벼1호나 만종벼는 후기작 이앙시기에서도 출엽수 감소가 적고 규칙적인 출엽 양상을 보여 극만기 벼 재배시기에 안정적인 재배가 가능하였다. 관행 벼육묘상자 육묘에 비해 포트육묘로 벼의 생육단계를 진전시켜 이앙하면 후기작에서 출수기까지 1~3일의 생육기간이 단축되었다. 벼 폿트육묘상자를 이용했을 때와 좀더 공간이 큰 폿트육묘 상자를 이용하여 초기 벼 생육을 높여도 출수기 단축효과는 2일 이내로 크지 않았다. 따라서 벼 육묘상자와 폿트육묘의 출수기 단축효과는 초기 생육단계의 차이보다 이앙후 뿌리가 잘리지 않아 생기는 빠른 활착효과 때문으로 추정된다. 800℃ 이상의 등숙온도가 확보되는 출수시기는 익산은 9월 12일이었다. 폿트육묘를 할 경우 출수기가 1~3일 빨라지기 때문에 출수 후 50일간 평균온도가 조금 높아지는 결과를 얻었는데, 7월 26일 이앙에서는 20℃ 에 근접한 온도가 유지되었고, 7월 31일에는 19℃ 전후, 8월 5일에는 17.5~18.0℃ 로 5일간 이앙시기가 지연됨에 따라서 등숙기 평균온도는 1℃ 정도씩 저하되었다. 극만기 벼 재배에서 폿트육묘후 이앙한 경우 수량이 증대하였다. 폿트육묘하여 이앙하는 경우는 각 주별 식물체가 1~3개로 육묘상자로 육묘한 경우보다 적어 짧은 생육기간에 적정 수수를 확보하기 어려웠다. 따라서 폿트육묘로 후기작 재배시에는 재식밀도를 높여야 수량 증대 효과를 크게 얻을 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

        Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute researchers have installed and operated magnetometers at Bohyunsan Observatory to measure the Earth's magnetic field variations in South Korea. In 2007, we installed a fluxgate magnetometer (RFP-523C) to measure H, D, and Z components of the geomagnetic field. In addition, in 2009, we installed a Overhauser proton sensor to measure the absolute total magnetic field F and a three-axis magneto-impedance sensor for spectrum analysis. Currently three types of magnetometer data have been accumulated. In this paper, we use the H, D, Z components of fluxgate magnetometer data to investigate the characteristics of mid-latitude geomagnetic field variation. To remove the temporary changes in Earth’s geomagnetic filed by space weather, we use the international quiet days’ data only. In other words, we performed a superposed epoch analysis using five days per each month during 2008-2011. We find that daily variations of H, D, and Z shows similar tendency compared to previous results using all days. That is, H, D, Z all three components’ quiet intervals terminate near the sunrise and shows maximum 2-3 hours after the culmination and the quiet interval start from near the sunset. Seasonal variations show similar dependences to the Sun. As it becomes hot season, the geomagnetic field variation’s amplitude becomes large and the quiet interval becomes shortened. It is well-known that these variations are effects of Sq current system in the Earth’s atmosphere. We confirm that the typical mid-latitude geomagnetic field variations due to the Sq current system by excluding all possible association with the space weather.

        The purpose of this study is to analyze seasonal variations of seaweed community structure according to ocean environment at three areas in the east coast of Korea. Mean water temperatures of Gosung, Samchuk, and Gyeongju were 8.3℃, 11.2℃, and 13.1℃, respectively, during the growing winter season of 2011. Subtidal benthic macroalgal flora and community structure were investigated at the sites between February to November 2011. The numbers of seaweed species at the areas were 38, 12, and 15, respectively. The amounts of biomass were 7.35 kg m-2, 1.80 kg m-2, and 0.84 kg m-2, respectively, during the period. The values of C/P, R/P, and (R+C)/P representing flora characteristics at Sokcho area were 0.1, 1.1, and 1.2, respectively. The values of flora characteristics at Samchuk were 0.3, 0.6, and 1.0, respectively. The values of flora characteristics at Gyeongju were 0.4, 4.0, and 1.2, respectively

        Coastal marine ecosystem plays important role of spawning and nursery grounds for fisheries resources. Yongil Bay is one of major coastal marine ecosystems, which is located in the southwestern East Sea of Korea. Species composition and abundance of marine organism in the Yongil Bay were investigated by season from March to November 2009. Gill net and pot fisheries were used for survey of pelagic and demersal species composition, and collected 106 species, 67 families, and 7 taxa of fisheries resources from the coastal ecosystem. Species were included 2 species in Ascidiacea, 2 species in Bivalvia, 6 in Cephalopoda, 22 in Crustacea, 5 in Echinodermata, 12 in Gastropoda, and 57 in Pisces. Diversity indices (Shannon index, H’) showed seasonal variation with low value of 2.11 in winter, and high value of 2.63 in autumn. Main dominant species were Asterias amurensis, Pleuronectes yokohamae, Siphonalia spadicea fuscolineata, Trachurus japonicas, Sillago japonica, Conger myriaster, Volutharpa ampullaceal, Engraulis japonicus, Asterina pectinifera, and Portunus (Portunus) sanguinolentus that were occupied over 71.5% of total individuals, and 52.9% of wet weight. Seasonal variations of fisheries resources composition were discussed on correlationships with those of environmental factors in the coastal ecosystem of the Yongil Bay in Korea. Those results from this study will provide scientific data and information to develop the ecosystem-based coastal fisheries assessment and management system in Korea.

        The objective of this study was to analyze long-term annual and seasonal trends of water chemistry on landuse patterns and seasonal precipitation using 72 sampling sites within Namhan River watershed during 2001-2010. Water quality, based on multi-parameters of water temperature(WT), dissolved oxygen(DO), biochemical oxygen demand(BOD), chemical oxygen demand(COD), suspended solids(SS), total nitrogen(TN), total phosphorus(TP), and electric conductivity(EC) varied largely depending on monsoon rain and landuse patterns such as forest, cropland, and residence. Concentrations of BOD and COD as an indicator for organic matter pollution, increased during summer monsoon season at the cropland and residential streams. Values of TN and TP were higher in residential streams than in the forest and cropland streams. In the meantime, DO values had weak relations to the landuse patterns of forest and cropland cover. Water quality was worst in cropland and residential streams, and also most degradated in 4th order streams. Overall, our results suggest that efficient water quality management is required in the cropland and residential landuse streams.

        The reproduction of animals is a way to maintain their species and demands a large amount of energy. The golden hamsters are seasonal breeders whose reproductive activities are regulated by photoperiod (length of day time in a day). The photic information received is transported to the pineal gland via many steps. Melatonin produced by the pineal gland affects the reproductive neuroendocrine system to manage reproductive activities. The major regulator neurons, secreting gonadotropin-releasing hormone, integrate all kinds of information to govern the reproductive frame hypothalamuspituitary-gonad axis. The elements impinging on the neurons are recently outspread. Thus the present review is to briefly survey the elements discovered newly and subjected to the active research realm and their correlations, focusing on the regulation of reproduction in mainly male golden hamsters as a representative animal.

        Air pollution inventories are aggregated around south-eastern part of the Korean Peninsular including Busan, Ulsan, and Changwon cities. Because densely populated cities are concentrated in this region, air pollutants emitted from one of these cities tend to be impacted on the air quality of other cities. In order to clarify the seasonal movement pattern of emitted particles, several numerical simulations using WRF/FLEXPART were carried out. Four cases were selected for each season. The Weather Research and Forecasting model (WRF) reproduced atmospheric flow fields with nested grids. The seasonal pattern of air mass of study area was determined by backward and forward trajectories. As a result, the air parcel moves from northwest to southeast due to northwesterly winds in spring and winter. Also air parcel transports from south to north in summer, and moves from west to east. Because the air mass moves differently in each season, these characteristics should be considered when performing air quality analysis.
