        This study was carried out to investigate the vegetation and habitat environment of Sageretia thea which isdistributed in Jeju island, Korea. Sageretia thea were mainly distributed to the west area in Jeju island. Soil pH andEC of Sageretia thea habitat were 5.8 and 0.34dS•m−1. The contents of organic matter, available phosphate, exchangeablepotassium, exchangeable sodium, exchangeable magnesium and exchangeable calcium were 15.27%, 13.6㎎㎏−1,0.27cmol+㎏−1, 1.3cmol+㎏−1, 1.7cmol+㎏−1, 4.9cmol+㎏−1, respectively. Thirty one taxa including 25 families, 31 genus, 27species and 4 varieties were identified surrounding Sageretia thea habitat. Specific plant species were 1 taxon in III grade, 1taxon in I grade and 3 taxa in I grade.

        The number concentrations, the mass concentrations and the elemental concentrations of PM10 have measured at Gosan site in Jeju, Korea, from March 2010 to December 2010. And the correlation and the factor analysis for the number, the mass and the elemental concentrations of PM10 are performed to identify their relationships and sources. The average PM10 number concentration is observed 246 particles/㎝3(35.7∼1,017 particles/㎝3) and the average PM10 mass concentration is shown 50.1 ㎍/㎥(16.7∼441.4 ㎍/㎥) during this experimental period. The number concentrations are significantly decreased with increasing particle size, hence the concentrations for the smaller particles less than 2.5 ㎛(PM2.5) are contributed 99.6% to the total PM10 number concentrations. The highest concentration of the 20 elements in PM10 determined in this study is shown by S with a mean value of 1,497 ng/㎥ and the lowest concentration of them is found by Cd with a mean value of 0.57 ng/㎥. The elements in PM10 are evidently classified into two group based on their concentrations: In group 1, including S>Na> Al>Fe>Ca>Mg>K, the elemental mean concentrations are higher than several hundred ng/㎥, on the other hand, the concentrations are lower than several ten ng/㎥ in group 2, including Zn>Mn>Ni>Ti>Cr>Co>Cu>Mo>Sr>Ba>V >Cd. The size-separated number concentrations are shown positively correlated with the mass concentrations in overall size ranges, although their correlation coefficients, which are monotonously increased or decreased with size range, are not high. The concentrations of the elements in group 1 are shown highly correlated with the mass concentrations, but the concentrations in group 2 are shown hardly correlated with the mass concentrations. The elements originated from natural sources have been predominantly related to the mass concentrations while the elements from anthropogenic sources have mainly affected on the number concentrations of PM10.

        The occurrence trends and moleculargenetic characteristics of noroviruses detected from gastroenteritis patients in Jeju from 2008 to 2010 were investigated. In addition, the norovirus contamination and its characteristics of groundwaters in Jeju were examined. The incidence caused by norovirus in viral gastroenteritis patients has increased every year and was higher in male than in female. The patients caused by norovirus occurred throughout all months. The incidences started to increase from November, were very high from December to February, started to decrease from March, and were very low from June to September. The patients caused by norovirus occurred throughout all ages, however, the infants below 5 years were the most susceptible to norovirus infection and the age group from teens to forties were the most insensitive to norovirus infection. The sequencing analysis showed that 18 genotypes (8 genogroup I (GI) and 10 genogroup II (GII)) were detected, the incidences caused by GI and GII were 11.5% and 88.5%, respectively, and predominant genotype was GII-4 (70.5%), which was the major genotype giving rise to norovirus incidences in Jeju, together with GII-3 (6.1%) and GI-4 (4.1%). Among 20 groundwaters sampled at 9 wells (4 non-drinking water wells and 5 drinking water wells), noroviruses were detected from 2 groundwaters sampled at one non-drinking water well and their genotypes were GI-5 and GI-8.

        Recently, the occurrences of droughts have been increased because of global warming and climate change. Water resources that mostly rely on groundwater are particularly vulnerable to the impact of precipitation variation, one of the major elements of climate change, are very sensitive to changes in the seasonal distribution as well as the average annual change in the viewpoint of agricultural activity. In this study, the status of drought for the present and future on Jeju Island which entirely rely on groundwater using SPI and PDSI were analyzed considering regional distribution of crops in terms of land use and fluctuation of water demand. The results showed that the precipitation distribution in Jeju Island is changed in intensity as well as seasonal variation of extreme events and the amount increase of precipitation during the dry season in the spring and fall indicated that agricultural water demand and supply policies would be considered by regional characteristics, especially the western region with largest market garden crops. Regarding the simulated future drought, the drought would be mitigated in the SPI method because of considering total rainfall only excluding intensity variation, while more intensified in the PDSI because it considers the evapotranspiration as well as rainfall as time passed. Moreover, the drought in the northern and western regions is getting worse than in the southern region so that the establishment of regional customized policies for water supply in Jeju Island is needed.

        Fluctuation patterns of groundwater level as a factor that reflects the characteristics of groundwater system can be categorized as the various types of aquifer with the time-series data. Time-series data on groundwater level obtained from 115 monitoring wells in Jeju Island were classified according to variation types, which were largely affected by rainfall(Dr), rainfall and pumping(Drp), and unknown cause(De). Analysis results indicate that 106 wells belong to Dr and Drp and the ratio of the wells with the wide range of fluctuation in the western and northern regions was higher than that in the eastern and southern regions. From the results that Drp is relatively higher than Dr in the western region which has the largest agricultural areas, groundwater level fluctuations may be affected significantly due to the intensive agricultural use. Non-parametric trend analysis results for 115 monitoring wells show that the increasing and decreasing trends as the ratio of groundwater levels were 14.8% and 22.6%, respectively, and groundwater levels revealed to be increased in the western, southern and northern regions excluding eastern region. Results of correlation analysis that cross-correlation coefficients and the time lags in the eastern and western regions are relatively high and short, respectively, indicate that the rainfall recharge effect in these regions is relatively larger due to the gentle slope of topography compared to that in the southern and northern regions.

        For Kangjeong stream and Akgeun stream in the central part of the southern Jeju Island, on-site discharge estimation was carried out for approximately 10 months (July 2011-April 2012) twice a month on a regular basis by using ADCP (acoustic doppler current profiler) and long term rate of discharge was calculated by using SWAT (soil and water assessment tool) model. The discharge was 0.28-1.30 m 3 /sec for Kangjeong stream and 0.10-1.54 m 3 /sec for Akgeun stream. It showed the maximum in the summer and the minimum in the winter. As a result of parameter sensitivity analysis of SWAT model, CN (NRCS runoff curve number for moisture condition Ⅱ), SOL_AWC (available water capacity of the soil layer), and ESCO (soil evaporation compensation factor) showed sensitive responses. By using the result, the model was corrected and the rate of discharge was calculated. As a result, the annual discharge rate was 27.12-31.86(%) at the Akgeun basin and 23.55-28.43(%) at the Kangjeong basin.

        The aerosol number concentration have measured with an aerodynamic particle sizer spectrometer(APS) at Gosan in Jeju Island, which is known as background area in Korea, from March 2010 to February 2011. The obtained results of asian dust events and non-asian dust period have been compared. The results show that the entire averaged aerosol number concentration from APS measurement during asian dust events and non-asian dust period are about 341 particles/㎝3 and 240 particles/㎝3, respectively. During asian dust events, the number concentration in small size ranges(≤0.4 ㎛) are similar to non-asian dust period, however, those in large size ranges(≥0.7 ㎛) are very higher than non-asian dust period. The contributions of the size resolved number concentration(23 channel in 0.25∼10.0 ㎛) to total number concentration in that range are dramatically decreased with increased particle size. The contributions of smaller size ranges(≤0.4 ㎛) during asian dust events are very low compared with non-asian dust period, on the other hand, those of larger size ranges(≥0.4 ㎛) are higher than non-asian dust period. total aerosol number concentration are depended on the number concentration in range of smaller than 0.58 ㎛ during non-asian dust period and asian dust events. On the other hand, PM10 mass concentration has mainly affected with the number concentration in range of smaller than 1.0 ㎛ during non-asian dust period, however, during asian dust events, the mass concentration has mainly affected with the number concentration in range of 0.65∼3.0 ㎛.

        본 연구에서는 미계측 강수자료를 생성하여 공간 해석함으로써 제주도의 정확한 수문총량을 산정하였다. 미계측 강수자료는 본 연구에서 제시된 수정된 다중회귀선형 모형으로 생성하였으며 공간강수량은 PRISM을 적용하여 구하였다. 수정된 다중선형회귀 모형에 의한 미계측 강수자료의 추정 값들은 기존의 강수 패턴과 유사한 양상을 나타내어 모형의 정확도가 우수한 것으로 나타났으며, 공간강수량의 해석 결과는 Case 1(원자료)과 Case 2(미계측 강수자료를 보완한 자료)의 연평균 강수량이 약 1.5%의 미미한 차이를 나타내었으나 고도별 연평균 강수량 차이는 최대 37.4%가 증가하는 것으로 산정되었다. 따라서 본 연구에서 제안한 미계측 관측 자료 생성방법은 현재 관측소의 밀도가 낮은 곳과 국지적으로 강수량의 변화가 큰 곳에서의 수문총량의 산정시 유용할 것으로 판단된다.

        본 연구는 제주지역의 사찰에서 음식으로 이용되는 식물을 파악하기 위하여 2011년 5월부터 2012년 1월까지 수행되었다. 조사대상 사찰은 36개 사찰이었고 설문대상자는 58명이었다. 사찰에서 이용하는 식물종은 27과 51속 55종 2변종 총 57분류군이었다. 이 중, 가장 많이 이용하는 과단위 분류군은 국화과가 8종으로 가장 많고, 십자화과 6종, 산형과 4종 등의 순이었으며, 목본 식물은 10종, 제주지역 자생식물은 25종이었다. 식물체의 이용부위는 잎을 사용하는 종이 19종으로 가장 많았고, 뿌리, 어린순, 열매 순 이었다. 특허검색을 통한 지식재산권을 가지고 있는 식물은 조사식물 대부분이 포함되었고, 이 중 식품관련 특허를 가지고 있는 식물이 48종, 화장품관련 특허를 가지고 있는 것이 34종, 의약관련 특허를 가지고 있는 식물이 38종으로 집계되었다. 제주지역 사찰 음식에 사용하는 식물재료의 구입 및 조달 방법은 주변의 식물 활용보다는 시장 또는 재배에 의존하고, 산나물 채취에 의한 사용은 한정적으로 사용되고 있기 때문에 제주 생물자원의 이용에 대한 전통지식의 수집은 사찰 보다는 다른 조건을 이용한 연구가 필요하다고 사료된다.

        Emission rates of biogenic hydrocarbon emitted from broad-leaved trees grown at Jeju Island were estimated using a dynamic enclosure method. Leaf temperature, PAR and relative humidity were monitored during the sampling time. The emission rates of isoprene and monoterpene were measured for five plants(Carpinus laxiflora, Quercus serrata, Styrax japonicus, Quercus acutissima, Quercus crispula) during the sampling period at the Halla mountain sites. Among five tree species, the highest isoprene emission rate of 10.60 ㎍ gdw-1hr-1 was observed for Quercus serrata. The seasonal emission rates were the highest during summer and the emission of isoprene was highly affected by light and temperature variations. The highest emission rate of isoprene was occurred between 13:00 and 14:00, but isoprene was not emitted in nighttime because of the absence of light.

        This study is to analyze the characteristics of golf course water usage using groundwater and rainwater data obtained from 17 golf courses in Jeju Island during 2007~2009. The groundwater usages were 246,275 ㎥/year, 213,062 ㎥/year, 155,235 ㎥/year, and 126,666 ㎥/year in the west, south, east, and north regions, respectively. Monthly rate of the amount of groundwater usage to the amount of permission was 29.5%. The rainfall usages were 386,591 ㎥/year, 326,464 ㎥/year, 251,248 ㎥/year, and 232,061 ㎥/year in the south, west, east, and north regions, respectively. Monthly rate of rainwater usage to the amount of water retention of golf courses was 19.6%. The average annual water usage in the 17 golf courses was 499,377 ㎥/year. From the average usage, it was found that the rainwater usage (305,126 ㎥/year) was 1.6 times higher than that of groundwater (194,251 ㎥/year). That means the annual average rainwater usage to the entire water usage was 61.1%, which was above the criteria of 40%.

        Emission rate of monoterpene and isoprene was measured in five commonly growing tree species of conifers(Pinus thunbergii, Abies koreana, Cryptomeria japonica, Pinus densiflora, Chamaecyparis obtusa) at the Halla mountain sites. Dynamic flow enclosure technique was used and gas samples were collected into Tenax tube. The highest and lowest hourly emission rate was observed in Abies koreana (1.86 ㎍/gdw/hr) and Chamaecyparis obtusa (0.52 ㎍/gdw/hr), respectively. The major species of monoterpene from pine trees were α-pinene, β-pinene, β-phellandrene, myrcene. Particularly, d-limonene was abundant in Abies koreana but α-pinene, d 3 -carene and sabinene was in Cryptomeria japonica. Emission rates of isoprene show less significant than those of monoterpene. And also seasonal emission rates of monoterpene were dependent on environmental factors such as temperature.

        콩 파종후 생육초기에 토양수분 부족으로 생육이 다소 억제되었고 7월 하순부터 8월 하순까지는 흐리고 습한 날씨고 지속되어 1차, 2차, 3차 파종시기에서 검은뿌리썩음병이 많이 발생하여 수량감소의 큰 원인이 되었다. 주요 생육단계 도달일수는 파종기가 빠를수록 길었고 파종기가 늦을수록 짧았는데 비교적 파종기간에는 차 이가 크지 않았고 각 파종시기별 개화기 단축일수는 4.8일이였고 생육일수는 8.2일 단축되었다. 건물중 및 엽면적지수도 경장과 같은 경향을 보였으나 전 파종기를 놓고 볼 때에 생육이 R2 stage 생육은 부족한 편이었 다. R5 stage에 Sink/Source비는 생육량이 적은 늦은 파종기 일수록 높게 나타나 단위 엽이 분담해야 될 역할이 증가되는 일반적인 경향을 띄었고 1차 파종에서 비율이 높았던 것은 선유콩과 풍산나물콩에서 생육이 건전한 데 기인한 것으로 생각되었다. 생육이 R5~R7 stage 사이의 순동화량(NAR) 은 품종별 파종시기간 차이는 크지는 않았으나 3차 파종기의 풍산나물콩이 순동화량이 컸음을 주목할 필요성이 있는데 이 시기에 수량증수 의 잠재성을 지니고 있다는 판단을 하였다. 성숙기의 경장은 R5 stage와 같은 1차 파종에서 2,3차 파종과 비교 시 약간 짧아으나 주경절수는 1차부터 3차까지 비슷하였다. 개체당 협수는 1차 파종에서 많았으며 2,3,4차 파종기는 비슷하였고 수량성은 4,5차 파종기가 많았는데 1,2,3차에서 수량이 낮고 경향치가 일정하지 않은 것은 뿌리썩음병의 발생이 많았는데 기인한 것으로 보인다. 품질중 단백질함량은 파종기가 늦어질수록 다소 낮아지는 경향을 보였으며, 지방산은 파종기가 늦어질수록 C16:0, C18:2,C18:3은 많아지고, C18:0은 변화가 적었으며, C18:1과 oil함량은 낮아지는 경향을 보였다. 아이소플라본 함량은 파종기가 늦어짐에 따라 많아지 는 경향을 보였다. 제주지역에서 콩의 안전증수를 위해서는 6월25일 파종에서 7월10일 사이가 적합한 것으로 생각되며 수량 및 품질의 연차간 변이에 주목할 필요성이 있다고 본다.

        This study is a plan for the Jeju Sanghyo Botanical Garden construction, and it is prepared to maintain the identity of the local landscape by composing the garden using the local landscape resources. The goals of becoming one of world's best, garden centered botanical garden and at the same time one that represents culture of Jeju. Unusual species are included in the collection and with the general collection, special collection and exhibition by different kinds are planned to be offered to the public. The garden will demonstrate the world's various types of gardens in a compressed way. It is our endeavor to become center of culture beyond plant education and exhibition, drawing a large number of people to our garden. Moreover, conservation of Jeju's unique botanic resources will be carried out and the garden will show the garden culture. Due to the size of the site, different themes will be exhibited in one zone in a parallel. Unique combination of each local landscape resource will create own theme. The display will be divided into three different stages: the 1st stage is an educational exhibition, assisting more understanding of distinguishing different locations, the second is exhibition by various species and the final stage will show an ideal way to develop a garden with harmony of various plant species.

        In Jeju island, the surface runoff characteristics are quite different from those of inland. Most of streams show dried characteristics by means of large portion of recharge which goes to the deep aquifer. For this reason, the accurate estimation of hydrologic components by using watershed model like SWAT is very difficult. On the other hand, the integrated SWAT-MODFLOW model is able to simulate the complex runoff structure including stream-aquifer interaction, spatial-temporal groundwater recharge and so on. The comprehensive results of Pyoseon region in Jeju island show that the amount of groundwater discharge to stream is very small, but it might be added to the discharge into the sea. Statistical analysis shows that SWAT-MODFLOW's results represent better than SWAT's. Also, SWAT-MODFLOW produces a reasonable water budget which shows a quite similar pattern of observed one. This result proves that the integrated SWAT-MODFLOW can be used as a proper tool for hydrologic analysis of entire Jeju island.

        This study was investigated on biodiversity and life forms of plants distributed in 28 wetlands on Jeju city, in order to apply wetlands to nature exploration sites for environmental education. The 131 kinds of the plants were found on 28 wetlands. The plant biodiversity was relatively high in Ban pond, Jeongmool, Mosanimool, Dolgaegi pond, Woot pond, and etc. The 5~6 life forms of plants, relatively high in variousness to other wet lands, were distributed in Mosanimool, Dolgaegi pond, Woot pond, and Yeonhoa pond as well as Jeongmool and Yongsoo reservoir. The 71 kinds, which correspond to 54.2% of plants observed in this study, were identified as hydrophytes. The 4~5 forms of hydrophytes were distributed on 23 wetlands, including Jeongmool, Mosanimool, Yongsoo reservoir, Ban pond, Dolgaegi pond, and etc. In conclusion, 5 wetlands such as Jeongmool, Yongsoo reservoir, Dolgaegi pond, Mosanimool and Woot pond were high in variousness of plant life forms as well as biodiversity of plants. These results suggest that 5 wetlands above could be applied as nature exploration sites. In addition, Korean rare and endangered plants such as Isoetes japonica, Nymphoides coreana, Utricularia japonica and Sparganium stoloniferum in this study need to be conserved.

        This study was investigated on the consciousness of middle school students in Jeju city about the environmental education through questionnaire, in order to understand the actual conditions of environmental education and to find out the solutions about them. Middle school students responded that environmental education in school was taken at the class for the special activity or voluntary service, not in regular class and was worked as in the form of the field trip. They generally obtain the knowledge and informations on the environmental problems from mass media such as TV, radio and newspaper than from regular environment class in school. And 36.0% of students perceive that environmental education is needed as a regular class and 31.3% of students perceive that the regular class in school is effective to the environmental education. These results suggest that many students are interested in the regular environment class in school. However, the most of students responded that the regular environment class in school is not worked or is not worked at all, suggesting that the environmental education in middle school is not worked effectively. Most of students prefer to take the environment class in the form of observation or field trip, and they think that observation or field trip is more effective to obtain environmental informations. In conclusion, the special activity such as observation or field trip needs to be supplemented to regular environment class in order to improve the environmental education in middle school more effectively.

        The purpose of this paper is to review current state of farm household's debt which is considered as one of the biggest problem in the rural community, to analyze the cause of farm household debt rising in Jeju province, and to make improvement schemes on how this problem of farm household debt could be alleviated. In order to achieve these objectives, raw data are collected from the interviews with 400 farming households in Jeju region. The results of the study are as follows; An average amount of total farm households debt was 42,000 thousand won in 2005, but an average of farm households debt excluding no debt farm households was increased by 10,000 thousand to 51,750 thousand won. But the debt properties are variable according to the farm type. Non-citrus farmers, younger farmers, rural area resident farmers hold more debt problems than other type. Among total farm households, 30 percent showed over 40 percent leverage ratio(debt/total assets), which is considered as risky or heavily indebted. Therefore, I designed a workout program and a program of land liquidation for heavily indebted farm households in Korea.
