Dry sliding wear behavior of electro-pressure sintered Co-Fe, Co-Ni and Co-Fe-Ni compacts was investigated. Pin-on-disk wear tests were performed on the sintered compacts disk specimens against alumina and silica ball counterparts at various loads ranging from 3N to 12N. Two sliding speeds of 0.1m/sec and 0.2m/sec and a fixed sliding distance of 1,000m were employed. Worn surfaces and cross sections of them were examined by a scanning electron microscopy, and wear mechanism of the compacts was investigated. Effects of the oxide layer that was formed on wearing surface of the compacts on the wear were also studied.

The electro-chemical removal (ECR) of water pollutants by metal-ACF electrodes from wastewater was investigated over wide range of ECR time. The ECR capacities of metallic ACF electrodes were related to physical properties such as adsorption isotherm, surface area and pore size and to reaction time. Surface morphologies and elemental analysis for the metal supported ACFs after electro-catalytic reaction were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy disperse X-ray (EDX) to explain the changes in adsorption properties. The IR spectra of metallic ACFs for the investigation of functional groups show that the electro-catalytic treatment is consequently associated with the removal of pollutants with the increasing surface reactivity of the activated carbon fibers. The metal-ACFs were electro-catalytically reacted to waste water to investigate the removal efficiency for the COD, T-N, NH4-N, NO3-N and NO2-N. From these removal results of the piggery waste using metallic ACFs substrate, satisfactory removal performance was achieved. The removal efficiency of the metallic ACFs substrate was mainly determined by the properties of the material for adsorption and trapping of organics, and catalytic effects.

The synthesis and consolidation of titanium silicide by electro-discharge-sintering has been investigated. As-received Ti powder was in flaky shape and the mean particle size was , whereas the mean particle size of the pre-milled Si powder with angular shape was . Single pulse of 2.5 to 5.0 kJ/0.34g-elemental Ti and pre-milled Si powder mixture with the composition of Si was applied using capacitor. The solid with phase has been successfully fabricated by the discharge with the input energy more than 2.5kJ in less than Hv values were found to be higher than . The formation of occurred through a fast solid state diffusion reaction.

Porous and porous surfaced Ti-6Al-4V implant compacts were fabricated by electro-discharge-sintering (EDS) of atomized spherical Ti-6Al-4V powders with a diameter of , The solid core formed in the center of the compact after discharge was composed of acicular Widmanstatten grains, The hardness value at the solid core was much higher than that at the particle interface or particles in the porous layer, which can be attributed to both heat treatment and work hardening effects induced from EDS, The compressive yield strength was in a range of 19 to 436 MPa which significantly depends on both input energy and capacitance, Selected porous-surfaced Ti-6Al-4V implant compacts with a solid core have much higher compressive strengths compared to the human teeth and sintered Ti dental implants.

Implant prototypes with various porosities were fabricated by electro-discharge-sintering of atomized spherical Ti-6Al-4V powders. Single pulse of 0.75 to 2.0 kJ/0.7 g-powder, using 150, 300, and capacitors was applied to produce a fully porous and porous surfaced implant compact. The solid core formed in the center of the compact after discharge was composed of acicular grains and porous layer consisted of particles connected in three dimensions by necks. The solid core and neck sizes increased with an increase in input energy and capacitance. On the other hand, pore volume decreased with increased capacitance and input energy due to the formation of solid core. Capacitance and input energy are the only controllable discharge parameters even though the heat generated during a discharge is the unique parameter that determines the porosity of compact. It is known that electro-discharge-sintering of spherical Ti-6Al-4V powders can efficiently produce fully-porous and porous surfaced Ti-6Al-4V implants with various porosities in a short time less then 400 isec by manipulating the discharging condition such as input energy and capacitance including powder size.

Dry sliding wear behavior of electro-pressure sintered Co-Fe and Co-Ni compacts was investigated. Pin-on-disk wear tests were performed on the sintered Co-Fe, Co-Ni disks against alumina balls at various loads ranging from 3N to 12N. A constant sliding speed of 0.1m/sec was employed. Wear rate was calculated by dividing the weight loss of a specimen by the measured specific gravity and sliding dis-tance. Worn surfaces and cross-sections of the specimens were examined using an SEM and EDS to investigate wear mechanism of the compacts. The wear behavior of the compacts were discussed as a function of their com-position. Effects of mechancial properties of the compact as well as oxide layers formed on wearing surface on the wear were also discussed

In this paper, we proposed the optimal process conditions on the electro-gilding process. The responses are plating thickness and Sn proportion. The factors are temperature, current density, and addition. We minimized the total number of experiments based on the principle of dividing into small part. We grouped the factors using the plating process information which we already knew. We did Hull Cell test to find relationship between plating solution and electric effects, and applied ANOVA and RSM to estimate the optimal process conditions.
