        In this paper, a shot peening was conducted to improve fatigue life by increasing resistance to hydrogen embrittlement of STS316 steel, which is widely used in hydrogen environments. First, considering the efficiency of the shot peening process, an effective Almen intensity was selected and applied to the specimen surface. Second, the specimen was hydrogen embrittled at room temperature (25°C) and high temperature (60°C) using electrochemical hydrogen charging. Third, the mechanical property tests (tensile, hardness, roughness) and 4-points rotational bending fatigue tests of the specimen were performed. All mechanical properties decreased, but the fatigue life of the shot peened specimens improved at the both temperature conditions. Ultimately, the fatigue characteristics against hydrogen embrittlement of STS316 steel, which is used in various industrial fields, are improved through an effective shot peening process, and the effect is believed to be very significant.

        경주 및 포항 지진으로 인한 수도관의 파열 및 누수로 배관 시스템용 신축이음부의 내진 안전성 확보가 강조되고 있 다. 일반적으로 금속 벨로우즈에 스테인리스강을 이용한 금속 벨로우즈가 사용되며 목적에 따라 다양한 주름 형상과 단층 및 다층 형태로 제작된다. 그러나 벨로우즈의 불규칙한 산의 형상에 대한 휨 거동 및 피로 파괴에 대한 연구는 미비하다. 본 연구 에서는 벨로우즈의 불규칙한 산의 형상을 고려한 휨 거동을 검토하기 위하여 단조시험, 준정적 반복재하시험 및 피로시험을 수 행하였다. 시험을 위해 제작된 벨로우즈는 단층(1ply)과 다층(3ply)으로 제작되었다. 다층 벨로우즈의 최대하중과 최대변형이 단 층 벨로우즈보다 크게 평가되었다. 단층 벨로우즈는 산과 산 사이에서 파괴가 되었으며, 다층 벨로우즈의 경우에는 산에서 파괴 가 발생하였다. 주름의 높이와 전체 두께가 다른 벨로우즈의 휨 파괴 거동을 평가하였으며, 단층의 초기 피로 균열은 고정 플랜 지와 첫 번째 산의 곡률에서 관찰되었다. 다층의 경우에는 첫 번째 산과 두 번째 산 사이의 곡률에서 관찰되었다.

        Thick-walled pressure vessel has been autofrettaged in order to improve the fatigue life of the pressure vessel. The compressive tangential residual stress near the bore of the pressure vessel due the autofrettage process is benefical to the fatigue crack initiation and propagation of the pressure vessel. However, a reverse yielding due to the Bauschinger effect during the unloading process in autofrettage causes the reduction of the compressive residual stress near the bore. In order to evaluate the fatigue crack propagation life of the autofrettaged thick-walled pressure vessel, the Bauschinger effects were considered. Stress intensity factors of the crack at the inside surface of the pressure vessel due to operating pressure loading of 707 MPa and autofrettage loading with different levels of overstrain were calculated by using finite element methods, and used for evaluating fatigue crack propagation lives. Fatigue lives of the pressure vessel with the Bauschinger effects resulted in 45% to 67% reductions in fatigue life compared to those of the pressure vessel with ideal residual stress distributions depending on the autofrettage level.

        본 연구에서는 해양플랫폼의 탑사이드 구조에서 주로 채택하고 있는 파이프 연결 구조의 피로 수명 증가를 위한 방안을 찾기 위하여, 유한요소해석을 수행하였다. 상용해석프로그램인 MSC Patran/Nastran을 적용하였으며, 대표적인 중앙부 구조 형상을 해석 모델로 선정하였다. 하중에 따른 응력집중 현상을 구현하기 위하여, 8 절점 솔리드 요소를 이용한 모델링을 구현하였다. 주요하중은 횡방향 하중 2가지와 대각선 파이프에 인장 하중을 고려하였다. 주요 위치에서의 Hot spot 응력을 확인하기 위하여, 0.01 mm dummy 쉘 요소를 적용하였으며, 0.5 t와 1.5 t 위치에서의 주응력을 계산한 후 외삽법에 따라 용접부에 발생하는 응력을 추정하였다. 일부 구간에서는 만족해야 하는 피로 수명 이하로 평가되어, 보강이 필요하였다. 보강은 기존 설계된 파이프의 두께나 지름을 변경하지 않고, 피로 수명이 부족한 부위에 응력집중계수를 낮출 수 있도록 브래킷을 추가하였다. 인장 하중에 대해서는 bracket toe에서 응력은 23 % 증가하였고, 기존에 문제가 된 파이프의 내측, 외측에서의 응력은 약 8 % 감소하였다. 휨 하중에 대해서는 bracket toe에서 응력은 3 % 증가하였고, 기존에 문제가 된 파이프의 내측, 외측에서의 응력은 약 48 % 감소하였다. 신규 브래킷 보강으로 인하여, bracket toe의 응력증가 가 발생하였지만, S-N 커브 자체가 파이프 조인트에 비해 좋으므로 큰 문제가 되지는 않는다. 본 연구에서 적용한 국부 보강을 통한 피로 수명 개선 방법은 기존 설계안의 변경을 최소화하면서 피로 수명 증가를 효율적으로 할 수 있다는 점에서 관련 산업에서 유용하게 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

        철도 분기기는 결선부와 곡선부의 존재로 인하여 선로에서 가장 손상이 많이 발생하는 구간이며, 구조적 건전성을 유지관리하기 위하여 매년 상당한 비용이 투입되고 있다. 레일연마는 이러한 분기기의 레일 손상을 감소시켜 유지관리 비용을 저감할 수 있는 방안 중 하나로 알려져 있으나, 현재까지 국내에서는 분기기 레일 연마를 통한 유지관리 비용 절감 효과를 정 량적으로 연구한 사례가 거의 없는 상황이다. 이 논문에서는 분기기 레일 연마를 통한 유지관리 비용 절감 효과를 다물체 동적 해석프로그램인 VI-Rail을 이용하여 검토하였다. 레일 연마 효과는 레일 표면의 조도를 이용하여 모사하였으며, VI-Rail 프로 그램의 Flextrack 모델을 이용하여 차량-궤도 상호작용해석을 수행하였다. 수치해석은 60kg #8 분기기와 EMU 차량 모델을 이용 하여 수행하였으며, 레일 표면 조도는 실제 궤도에서 측정된 값을 기반으로 작성한 PSD 함수를 이용하여 모사하였다. 해석 결 과 레일 연마는 분기기 레일의 피로 수명을 6.5% 가량 증가시키는 것으로 나타났다.

        The recent increase in truck traffic volume and overloading frequency causes a growing need to re-evaluation of fatigue life of steel bridges. However, the traditional fatigue analysis method, that is cumulative damage method(CDM), has limitation to apply to a number of bridges because the required calculation steps are very cumbersome and complicated. This study investigates the feasibility and applicability of proposed simple fatigue evaluation method based on the equivalent damage method (EDM) in Eurocode to estimate the remaining fatigue life for a highway bridge. The Proposed fatigue life evaluation method is as follows; 1. Calculation of fatigue resistance 𝛾𝑀f and fatigue strength Δ𝜎𝑐 used in design, 2. Calculation of partial safety factor 𝛾𝐹f for equivalent stress range, 3. Calculation of stress range Δ𝜎𝐸2 using influence line, 4. Calculation of damage equivalent factor λ, 5. Review of Fatigue state and evaluation of fatigue life. The specifications of the target bridge are as follows; Location : Gyeongbu Expressway, Design Life : 100yr, Construction year : 2006, Total length : 341m, Type of superstructure : continuous steel box girder. The resulting remaining fatigue life estimated by both EDM and CDM have been compared. Remaining fatigue life of target bridge in 2016 was calculated 365yr(EDM using WIM data in 2014), 334yr(CDM using strain gauge data in 2012 and reflecting 2% annual traffic volume increase, Gil and Kang(2012)). As a result of comparison, The remaining fatigue life using proposed method(EDM) was evaluated about 10% higher than the CDM. This result, because traffic volume increase had not reflected when calculation of remaining fatigue life using EDM. Proposed method(EDM) can evaluate remaining fatigue life more easily and simply than CDM.

        This paper studies the effect of a playtykurtic excitation signal on fatigue life. In general, a vibration test uses an excitation signal having a normal distribution of kurtosis 3. However, a vibration signal generated in a product’s operation environment has usually a non-normal distribution. This paper uses ZMNL method to generate a playtykurtic excitation signal having the equivalent power spectrum density with a reference vibration profile. This paper proposes a method which uses a fatigue damage spectrum ratio for studying the effect of a playtykurtic excitation signal on fatigue life. The fatigue spectrum damage ratio is obtained by dividing a fatigue damage spectrum acquired using the acceleration profile in which all conditions are the same except for the kurtosis by a fatigue damage spectrum acquired theoretically. This paper shows that the signal of kurtosis less than 3 can increase the fatigue damage spectrum by more than 2 to 4 times compared to the signal of kurtosis 3 using the fatigue damage spectrum ratio.

        Mechanical fatigue tests which consist of an alternate load and compression cycle show that droppers for 400km/h operation have cyclic mechanical strength of 300N with compression amplitude 0.05m. Numerical simulations for forces on the dropper during the passage of a train tell that dynamic forces can be varied up to 15% due to installation tolerance. Taking into account of the 15% variation, we end up with the maximum allowable peak load of 260N for the dropper. Peak value of measured forces on the dropper at the speed of 400km/h is 152N, which is less than the maximum allowable peak load of 260N. Conclusively, the possibility of fatigue fracture for the dropper is quite low.

        The residual stress analysis and fatigue test of a steel plate with a hole were performed in order to investigate the effects of the cold expansion on the fatigue life of the plate. The cold expansion method is a metal forming process by expanding a hole in order to induce compressive tangential residual stresses near the hole. In this research, a S45C steel plate of 3.2 mm thickness with a hole of 4.318 mm diameter was cold expanded by using a mandrel, resulting in a degree of expansion 1.47%. A significant amount of compressive tangential residual stress of 502 MPa at the hole surface was calculated using the finite element analysis and the compressive residual stress was more widely spreaded in the entry and exit planes than the mid plane in the plate thickness. The compressive tangential residual stresses showed a very beneficial influence on the fatigue life of the plate by increasing 1.2 to 2 times longer lives compared to the plate without cold expansion, depending on the applied load levels. Fatigue crack initiated and propagated at the hole surface of the mandrel entrance region, where relatively lower magnitude of compressive residual stress was found than the other region.

        Aging aircraft structures are inevitably exposed to environment for a long time facing many potential problems, including corrosion and wide spread fatigue damage, which in turn cause the degradation of flight safety. In this study, the environmental surface damages on aging aircraft structures induced during service were quantitatively analyzed. Additionally, S-N fatigue tests were performed with center hole specimens extracted from aging aircraft structures. From the results of quantitative analyses of the surface damages and fatigue tests, it is concluded that corrosion pits initiated during service reduce the fatigue life significantly. Finally, using the fracture mechanics and the EIFS (equivalent initial flaw size) concepts, the remaining fatigue life was predicted based on actual fatigue test results.

        This paper studies on the effect of kurtosis on fatigue life. A typical vibration test machine uses a normal distribution signal. However, the vibration signal generated in the actual operating environment is a non-normal distribution signal with kurtosis. In this paper, a signal which has the same power spectral density, but has different kurtosis is generated using the Zero Memory Non-Linear(ZMNL) method. The power spectral densities of these two signal will coincide within ±3dB. Fatigue damage spectrum(FDS) computed with a normal distribution signal and FDS computed with a non-normal distribution signal generated using the ZMNL method are compared. FDS computed using the normal distribution signal of kurtosis 3 will show a big difference over the 100Hz with FDS computed using the signal of kurtosis 6. This paper shows through such FDS comparison that a difference in fatigue life prediction may result in if a vibration profile which does not consider kurtosis occurring in the operating environment of a product is used in a vibration test.

        This study examines the effects of a rehabilitation program on quality of life (QOL), cardiopulmonary function and fatigue during radiotherapy for breast cancer patients. The program includes aerobic exercise, stretching and strengthening exercises. Sixty-five women participated in this study and they were asked to perform supervised exercises that last for 60 minutes five times a week for six weeks. The European organization for research and treatment of cancer-cancer (EORTC QLQ-C30) and the breast (EORTC QLQ-BR23), predicted maximal volume of oxygen consumption () and fatigue severity scale (FSS) were assessed before and after the rehabilitation program. The 60-minute program consisted of a 10-minute warm-up, 30-minute of aerobic exercises, and 15-minute of strengthening exercises, followed by a five-minute cool-down. Heart rates were monitored throughout the exercise class to ensure that patients were exercising at the target heart rate of 40~75% of the age-adjusted heart rate maximum. There were statistically significant differences in the changes of physical function and cancer related symptoms in the EORTC QLQ-C30 and EORTC QLQ-BR23 (p<.05). There was a statistically significant improvement in the predicted (p<.05), although there were no significant differences in the FSS (p>.05). The results of our study suggest that a supervised rehabilitation program may benefit the physical aspects and QOL of patients receiving radiotherapy for breast cancer.

        Sheet aluminum alloys have been used in manufacturing of machine structures. In fatigue crack propagation behavior of thin sheet aluminum alloys, it is important that fatigue crack growth rate is affected by crack closure phenomenon. In this work, we analyzed the characteristics of fatigue crack propagation behavior in experiment of constant stress condition for thin sheet Al 2024-T3 alloys, and identified the retardation behavior of crack growth by comparing experimental results of thin and thick plate specimen. We attempt to operate the fatigue life estimating process using the fatigue related material constants from referred fatigue crack propagation analysis. And we analyzed the experimental and prediction results of fatigue life of thin sheet aluminum alloy in order to identify the relation between retardation behavior of fatigue crack growth and crack closure phenomenon.

        Stress distribution and deformation on the cross tension type spot welded lap joint subjected to out of plane tensile load were investigated by finite element method. For the rational design of spot welded joint, it is needed to assess to repeatedly the fatigue life of the joint with various dimensions and welding conditions. In this paper, an automation of repeated process of fatigue life assessment for spot welded cross tension type joint was studied. The process is related to stress analysis in vicinity of weld-toe and fatigue life assessment based on analyzed stress distribution. With the change of design condition including dimensions and welding heat input, the above two works have to be performed. Using the commercial tool for system integration, ModelCenter, an automation of the repeated process for spot welded cross tension type joint based on 2D modeling was achieved. In this automation system, data exchanges between programs regardless of commercial and parametric studies for optimal design can be performed.

        For the stress and vibration analysis of vehicle components by computer simulation, it is necessary to find the forces acting on the vehicle components due to the road profile undulation. A precise modeling of tires is not easy due to nonlinear effects between tire-ground. Instead of precise tire modeling, this paper proposes to regenerate the road profile, which preserves the measured wheel accelerations with a linear tire model in the computer simulations. From the full car example, the proposed method in this paper shows very nice results, and thus the new method seems well-suited in virtual driving simulations. The effort to improve durability of vehicle components has been continued during test and development process. Computer aided durability analysis techniques cut down time and money compared with experiment. In this paper, the dynamic simulation of vehicle model was carried out with the MSC/ADAMS program and the durability analysis of vehicle components was carried out with MSC/Fatigue program by using load profiles generated from dynamic simulation.

        본 연구는 지불계수를 이용하여 시험포장 구간의 품질을 평가하고 이에 따른 피로수명의 변화를 분석하기 위해 실시되었다. 특히 품질관리가 어려운 아스팔트 함량을 지불규정 기준인자로 선정하여 지불계수를 산출하였다. 먼저 아스팔트 함량이 피로수명에 미치는 영향을 확인하기 위하여 아스팔트 함량에 따른 피로수명의 연관성을 분석하였다. 이후 총 2회에 걸쳐 시험포장 구간에서 시료를 채취해서 지불계수를 산출하여 시험포장 구간의 품질을 평가하였으며, 지불계수에 따라 시험포장 구간의 품질에 차이가 있음을 확인 할 수 있었다. 시험포장 구간에 포설된 아스팔트 혼합물을 이용하여 시편을 제작, 피로수명을 분석하였다. 그 결과 지불계수가 높은 시험포장의 피로수명이 월등히 높음을 확인할 수 있었다. 이는 통계이론을 이용한 지불계수가 실제 포장의 피로수명을 반영한다는 것을 의미한다고 사료된다. 또한 시험포장 구간에 아스팔트 혼합물을 납품한 플랜트의 배합보고서와 동일한 시편을 제작하여 휨 피로시험을 실시하여 1, 2회차 시험포장의 피로수명들과 비교하였다. 그 결과 배합보고서를 기초로 제작한 시편의 피로수명이 시험포장 구간의 피로수명에 비해 월등히 높음을 알 수 있었다. 이는 입도나 기타 요인에 따른 공용성 감소현상이 발생 할 수 있음을 나타내는 것이라 사료된다. 따라서 지불규정을 적용중인 미국과 같이 입도, 공극률 등을 지불규정 기준인자로 선정하여 최종적인 지불계수를 산출하는 것이 보다 정확한 도로포장의 품질을 평가할 수 있을 것이다.

        In this study, we optimized Pb-free Sn/Ni plating thickness and conditions were optimized to counteract the environmental regulations, such as RoHS and ELV(End-of Life Vehicles). The B10 life verification method was also suggested to have been successful when used with the accelerated life test(ALT) for assessing Pb-free solder joint life of piezoelectric (PZT) ceramic resonator. In order to evaluate the solder joint life, a modified Norris-Landzberg equation and a Coffin-Manson equation were utilized. Test vehicles that were composed of 2520 PZT ceramic resonator on FR-4 PCB with Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu for ALT were manufactured as well. Thermal shock test was conducted with 1,500 cycles from (-40±2)˚C to (120±2)˚C, and 30 minutes dwell time at each temperature, respectively. It was discovered that the thermal shock test is a very useful method in introducing the CTE mismatch caused by thermo-mechanical stress at the solder joints. The resonance frequency of test components was measured and observed the microsection views were also observed to confirm the crack generation of the solder joints.

        본 논문에서는 아스팔트 콘크리트 포장의 표층 프로파일과 차량특성인 차량속도와 현가장치를 다르게 하여 트럭 시뮬레이션 프로그램을 통한 동적하중을 분석하였다. 다양한 포장 상태의 프로파일을 입력하여 동적하중을 분석하였으며 프로파일, 차량의 현가장치, 차량속도에 따른 동적하중 변화를 분석하였다. 포장 거칠기가 증가할수록 동적하중이 증가하였으며, 속도가 증가할 수 록 동일한 포장 거칠기 하에서 동적하중이 증가하였다. Walking beam 현가장치가 Air spring 현가장치에 비해 더 큰 동적하중을 보였다. 동적하중 공분산을 이용하여 포장파손 지수를 결정하였으며, 동적하중 공분산과 신뢰도, 아스팔트 혼합물의 파괴매개변수가 증가할 수록 포장파손지수도 증가하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 이용하여 차량속도와 표층 아스팔트 혼합물 파괴특성에 근거한 포장 평탄성 규정에 이용할 수 있으며, 아스팔트 콘크리트 포장 시공 후 포장 평탄성에 근거한 지불규정에 효과적으로 사용할 수 있다고 판단된다.
