        Plasma Arc Melter (MSO) system has been developed for the treatment and the stabilization of various kinds of hazardous and radioactive waste into the readily disposable solidification products. Molten salt oxidation system has been developed for the for the treatment of halogen- and sulfurbearing hazardous and radioactive waste without emissions of PCDD/Fs and acid gases. However, PAM system has showed some difficulty in the off-gas treatment system due to the volatilization of radionuclides and toxic metals at extremely high-temperature plasma arc melter and the emissions of acid gases. MSO system has also showed the difficulty in the treatment of spent molten salt into the disposable waste form. Present study discussed the results of organics destruction performance tests for the PAM-MSO combination system, which is proposed and developed to compensate the drawbacks of each system. The worst-case condition tests for the organics destruction were conducted at lowest temperatures and the worst-case condition tests for the retention of metals and radionuclides were conducted at highested temperatures under the range of normal operating condition. For the worst-case organic destruction test, C6H5Cl was selected as a POHCs (Principal Organic Hazardous Constituents) because of its high incinerability ranking and the property of generation of chlorine gases and PCDD/Fs when incompletely destroyed. Simulated concrete waste spiked with 1 L of C6H5Cl was treated and the emissions of 17 kinds of PCDD/Fs and other hazardous gases such as CO, THCs, NOx, SO2 and HCl/Cl2 were measured. For the worst-case condition tests for the retention of metals and radionuclides, Pb and Cs were selected because of its high volatility characteristics. The emissions of PCDD/Fs was extremely lowered than the emission limit and those of other hazardous constituents were below their emission limit. The results of performance tests on the organics destruction suggested that tested PAM-MSO combination system could readily treat PCBs-bearing spent insulation liquid, spent ion-exchange resins used for the treatment of spent decontamination liquid in the decommission process and the concreted debris bearing hazardous organic coating materials. The decontamination factor of Cs and Co were 1.4×105, 1.4×105, respectively. The emisison of Pb was 0.562 ppm. These results suggested that tested PAM-MSO system treated low-level radioactive and pb-bearing mixed waste.

        Present study investigated the waste form integrity of melted products generated from PAM-MSO system, which is proposed and developed to compensate the drawbacks of each system. The disposal suitability of the melting solidification products generated from the plasma arc melting treatment of pulverized cement debris spiked by Pb, Cd and Cs, as indicators of typical hazardous metals and radionuclides existed in the low-level mixed waste in the KHNPPs. The final waste form obtained by the test was evaluated for suitability for disposal. The compressive strength was 261.10 MPa, showing much higher values when compared to other waste form products. The compressive strength of both the sample after irradiation with 107 Gy radiation and that after long-term submersion test (90 days) satisfied the disposal criteria. As a result of the leaching test conducted according to the ANS 16.1 test method, it was confirmed that the leaching index satisfies the disposal criteria.

        상⋅하수도 관로 시설은 대표적인 국가기반 시설물로서 국민생활에 있어서 매우 중요한 라이프 라인이다. 지진으로 인한 관로시설의 손상은 급수의 차단을 유발하여 심각한 피해를 초래할 가능성이 매우 크다. 그러므로 상⋅하수도 관로 시설은 지진으로부터 반듯이 안전하게 보호되어야 할 필요가 있다. 지진 및 지반침하로 인한 설계변위를 초과하는 상대변위는 구조물과 연결되는 배관의 이음부에서 손상을 발생시킨다. 벨로우즈형 신축이음관은 온도차에 의한 배관의 팽창 및 변형을 흡수하고 기계진동에 의한 배관의 손상을 막기 위한 장치이다. 본 연구에서는 매설된 상⋅하수도 관로를 보호하고자 지진변위와 지반침하 대응을 목적으로 벨로우즈를 적용하였다. 적층형 하이드로포밍 메탈 벨로우즈는 기존의 벨로우즈와 달리 지진과 같은 저주 기피로하중에 대한 내구성이 우수하다. 따라서 3ply 벨로우즈형 신축이음관을 대상으로 반복가력 굽힘시험을 수행하고 지진안전성과 내침하성능을 평가하였다. 그 결과, 3ply 벨로우즈형 신축이음관은 8.8°이상의 횡방향 변형각에 대응할 수 있는 것으로 나타났다.

        The present study investigated students’ preferences for the types of tasks used to assess English speaking performance. It further examined whether students’ task type preferences affected their perceptions of test effectiveness. One hundred eighty-two high school students responded to a self-report questionnaire. A series of frequency analysis and paired samples t-tests were used for the analysis. The results showed that students’ most preferred task types and their least preferred ones overlapped with each other, suggesting that the task types of English-speaking performance tests used in schools are limited. The four key reasons determining students’ task type preferences were identified, including task difficulty, emotional comfort, practical value, and interest. In addition, the results indicated that students’ task type preferences could affect their perceptions of task effectiveness. Overall, the results suggest the need for developing more varied task types for English-speaking performance tests as well as helping students become familiar with English speaking performance tasks. Pedagogical implications were discussed along with study limitations.

        PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to disseminate the process of deriving the truck performance curve of Korea’s representative trucks in detail such that the relevant experts can use it in the future when re-selecting the representative trucks and deriving the truck performance curve accordingly. METHODS : To collect relevant data required to derive the truck performance curve, this study used four trucks that implemented the weight/power of the nation’s representative trucks, and conducted a practical driving test on four different upgrade sections. RESULTS : The truck performance curve was derived for each driving position to represent the deceleration and acceleration capabilities of the truck through the actual driving test on the upgrade sections. CONCLUSIONS : The truck performance curve derived from this study indicated that the truck’s deceleration and acceleration capabilities increased as the total weight/power of Korea’s representative trucks improved, and the design of the climbing lane demonstrated that the design method used in this study saved approximately 60% of the construction cost compared to the existing method.

        Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) sensors have been widely used in Structural Health Monitoring due to their convenience and lower costs in comparison to conventional sensors. Triggered measurements are relevant in events such as earthquakes because unlike continuous measurements, they only record the structural response once an event happens. This is more cost effective and it makes the data more manageable because only the required measurements from the event are recorded. The most common method of triggering is amplitude triggering. However, lower input amplitudes (less than 0.1g) cannot be triggered by using this method. In this paper, sound triggering was introduced to allow triggered measurements for lower input amplitude values. The performance of the sound triggering and amplitude triggering were compared by a series of shaking- table tests. It was seen that sound- triggering method has a wider frequency (0.5~10Hz) and amplitude (0.01~1.0g) range of measurements. In addition, the sound triggering method performs better than the amplitude triggering method at lower amplitudes. The performance of the amplitude triggering, in terms of the triggering being simultaneous improves at higher input amplitudes.

        Wireless sensors are more favorable in measuring structural response compared to conventional sensors. This is because they are easier to use with no issues with cables and are considerably cheaper. There are several applications that can be used in recording and analyzing data from MEMS sensor installed on an iPhone. The Vibration App is one of the applications used and there has not been adequate research conducted in analyzing the performance of this App. This paper analyzed the performance of the Vibration App by comparing it with the performance of an ICP sensor. Results show that natural frequency results are more accurate (error less than 5%) in comparison to the amplitude results. This means that built- in MEMS sensor in smartphones are good at estimating natural frequency of structures. In addition, it was seen that the results became more accurate at higher frequencies (5.0Hz and 10.0Hz).

        Most of the expressway concrete pavements in Korea have been constructed with jointed plain concrete pavements. However, the premature failure of joints occurred on some routes and it is considered to be related to the durability of concrete. Korea Expressway Corporation has been continuously devoting efforts to increase the durability of concrete, and recent research has shown that premature failure of jointed plain concrete pavement constructed recently has decreased. The durability of pavement concrete is determined by internal and external factors. Currently, the durability of pavements concrete is controlled by controlling the quantity and the spacing factor of internal air. In this study, the feasibility of evaluating concrete durability through absorption performance tests was examined. The absorption performance was evaluated by applying ASTM C 1585 and modified NBN B 15-215 in Belgium and applied to the pavement concrete mixed in the laboratory or collected on site. Each test is a method to evaluate water absorption performance, but ASTM evaluates the absorption performance through the upper surface and NBN evaluates the absorption performance through the entire surface of specimens. In this study, the absorption performance of the pavement concrete measured according to the test method was compared and the advantages and disadvantages of the performance evaluation method were examined through comparison of test results and procedures. As a result of the absorption performance test on the cores collected at the site, the amount of water absorption in the region where the few premature failure was occurred was relatively small. Also, the specimen of lower water cement ratio absorbed the smaller amount of water. And the small amount of aggregate at the surface showed tendency of the large absorption of the water. The amount of absorption due to the increment of air content showed a moderate increment but it was relatively small. This study has confirmed the possibility of estimating the durability through the evaluation of the absorption performance of concrete. However, further study is needed to extend the results obtained from the test method to the evaluation criteria of pavement concrete.

        The Membrane structure has a number of problems in the application of a fireproof code based on general buildings codes. Thus, the fireproof code of membrane structure is necessary to activate the construction of the membrane structure. Because it requires a systematic classification of fire retardant and flame proof performance of membrane material. Fire retardant and flame proof tests are conducted on membrane materials mostly used in current construction to propose the fire and flame retardant performance criteria of membrane materials. Fire and flame retardant tests results, PTFE membrane material with the glass fiber fabric have a limit-combustible performance. PVDF membrane material with the polyester fabric does not ensure the fire retardant performance, but this membrane material has the flame retardant performance of a thick fabric. Also, ETFE does not ensure the fire retardant performance, but this membrane material has the flame retardant of a thin fabric.

        The sea cucumber, Apostichopus japonicus, is becoming an important aquaculture species in China, Japan and Korea. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the biological performance of a tubular type of subsurface cage for sea cucumber grow-out by in-situ tests. The cage structure was constructed of PP (polypropylene) frames and PP tubes (ø130 mm×24 pieces). A set of tests were conducted at a depth of 15 m near Seosaeng, Ulsan, Korea for 295 days (23 July, 2012 to 13 May, 2013). A total of 155 sea cucumbers were used and fed a mixed diet containing mud, mineral, wheat, fish meal, etc (3% of their body weight). At the end of the experiments, sea cucumber showed a higher survival rate in feed shelter (77.14%) rather than no feed shelter (64.71%). The specific growth rate (SGR) of sea cucumbers in feed condition (0.04% day-1) was higher than that of no feed culture animals (-0.49% day-1) during total experimental periods. The result was able to find a no significance difference in survival rate but a significance difference in SGR under feed and no feed treatments.

        In this study, an externally reinforced structural system for SMC(Sheet Molding Compound) panel water tank, designed according to the Japanese design code, is experimented to evaluate its seismic performance. The test tank is 3m long, 2m wide and 3m high, considering the capacity and size of the shaking table. The measured hydrodynamic pressures are found to be approximately 70% of the Japanese design code values. It may be partially due to the convex shape effect of the unit panels. The analytical results of externally reinforced system based on the measured dynamic water pressures are found in good agreement with the test results. If the design hydrodynamic pressures are estimated properly, the proposed analytical model for the externally reinforced water tank becomes a useful design tool and the Japanese design code is found to provide a safe design for the external frames of SMC panel water tank.

        In this study, as a part of the seismic retrofitting for school buildings, proposed of a new type of rotary friction damper, reviewed the performance and developed a experiment formula for the practical application. The rotary friction damper was composed of 4 shear plane using 2 friction pad. Considering a variety of yield moment, it was designed that clamping forces can be applied. The number of bolts were 9, 13 and thε clamping forces were 8 levels that the maximum load is the standard clamping forces. ±20mm displacement of the cyclic loading test were performed. As a result, the records of friction damper were stable. But sliding was ensured if the stress is 10-15% of the relation formula of sliding load in KBC 2009 by the bolts joining. However, when it is designed of that were inserted additional members for implementation of friction, the design of the level of 10% of the formula in KBC 2009 will be possible. And the design equation that is converted into the moment-rotation is proposed for the detailed design.

        The Cold Neutron Research Facility(CNRF) is being built to produce a cold neutron which has peculiar physical property. In-Pool Assembly(IPA) was manufactured in a domestic factory, which is composed of moderator cell, heat exchanger, vacuum chamber, joint flange assembly and bracket etc. We had difficulties with the mechanical fabrication process due to the thin moderator cell. The special flange for the double flexible piping was developed. The tests of moderator cell, heat exchanger, vacuum chamber, double flexible pipe and IPA include the pressure test, normal temperature leak test and low temperature leak test. The moderator cell and heat exchanger were tested in the severe environmental condition and the burst tests of moderator cell were carried out. Above all, the bursting point took place at the area of the 0.01mm thinner place. It shows that the severe environmental test affects the bursting strength. The double flexible pipe welding at the IPA top plate was related with the arrangement of moderator cell in the vacuum chamber. Therefore the connecting welding of the double flexible pipe linked to sequent of the vacuum piping, helium piping and hydrogen piping. The fabrication, test and assembling of cryogenic in radiation zone were developed.

        A comparative study is made on root bending fatigue performance of spur gears and plane bending fatigue performance of notched test bars. R = 0 root bending fatigue tests are made on small spur gears with critical root radius 1.0 mm. The results are compared to plane bending fatigue tests of 0.9 mm radius notched specimens. Results are presented for tests on 4%Ni/2%Cu/1.5%Mo prealloyed PM steel with addition of about 0.6% graphite. Predicted values from the test bars coincide well with the results obtained from the gear root fatigue tests.
