The objective of this study was to compare the feeding effects of imported timothy hay, domestic Italian ryegrass silage (IRGS) and IRG dried by hot-air dry system (IRGHDS) under basic total mixed ration (bTMR) on rumination activity, milk production, and milk composition in lactating dairy cows. Eighteen Holstein dairy cows were divided into three groups: control (bTMR + imported timothy hay), treatment 1 (bTMR + IRGS) and treatment 2 (TMR + IRGHDS) groups. The study was conducted over a total period of 24 days, including a 10 days adaptation period and a 14 days main experimental period. The results indicate body weight was not significantly different between the three groups (p>0.05), and rumination time was significantly higher in the treatment 1 group compared with the control group (p<0.001). Milk fat, protein, and lactose were not significantly different between the three groups (p>0.05), however, somatic cell counts were significantly lower in the treatment 1 group compared with the control group (p<0.001). As a result of the economic feasibility analysis, it is expected that feeding TMR using IRGS and IRGHDS will increase profit by 402.8 won/day and 331.4 won/day per cow compared to imported timothy hay. Therefore, IRGS and IRGHDS can be used as substitutes for imported timothy hay in feeding lactating dairy cows.
The objective of this study was to investigate the comparison of feeding a total mixed ration (TMR) containing imported alfalfa hay and TMR containing hot-air dried domestic alfalfa on rumination activity, milk production, and composition in lactating dairy cows. Ten Holstein dairy cows were divided into two groups: control (imported alfalfa hay + TMR) and treatment (hot-air dried domestic alfalfa + TMR) groups. The study was conducted over a total period of 18 days, including a 13-days adaptation period and a 5-days main experimental period. The results indicated no differences in total digestible nutrient and net energy intake between the imported and hot-air dried alfalfa. Body weight was not significantly different between the two groups (p>0.05), however, total feed intake and rumination time were significantly and tendentially higher in the treatment group compared with control group, respectively (p<0.001; p=0.075). Milk yield was not significantly different between the two groups (p>0.05), however, milk fat (kg) and lactose (%) concentration were significantly higher in the treatment group compared with control group (p=0.016; p=0.02). This study confirms that feeding TMR with hot-air dried domestic alfalfa results in no differences of feed intake, rumination activity, and milk productivity. Therefore, it is considered that hot-air dried domestic alfalfa can be used as a substitute for imported alfalfa on lactating dairy cows.
본 연구에서는 기능성 식품원료로써 흰점박이꽃무지 유충의 이용 가능성과 흰점박이꽃무지 유충 사료자원으로써 큰느타리버섯수확후배지의 이용 가능성을 조사하기 위해서 참나무톱밥과 큰느타리수확후배지를 각각 식이한 흰점박이 꽃무지 유충 추출물의 항산화 활성을 비교하였다. 참나무톱밥과 큰느타리수확후배지를 각각 식이한 흰점박이꽃무지 유충 추출물의 총 폴리페놀 함량은 각각 57.02±1.73 mg GAE/g과 75.33±0.43 mg GAE/g이었고 플라보노이드 함량은 각각 24.6±0.28 mg/g과 25.4±0.75 mg/g이었다. DPPH에 의한 라디칼소거 활성은 추출물의 농도가 증가할수록 증가하는 경향을 나타내었으나 참나무톱밥을 식이한 흰점박이꽃무지 유충에 비해 큰느타리버섯수확후배지를 식이한 흰점박이꽃무지 유충 추출물의 DPPH 라디칼 소거능이 우수하였으며 32 mg/ml 이상의 농도에서는 두 시료 간의 유의적 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 참나무톱밥과 큰느타리버섯수확후배지를 각각 식이한 흰점박이꽃무지 유충 추출물의 농도별 환원력도 추출물의 농도가 높을수록 환원력은 증가하였으나 시료 간의 유의적인 차이는 보이지 않았다. 참나무톱밥과 큰느타리버섯수확후배지를 식이한 흰점박이꽃무지 유충 추출물의 ORAC 지수는 각각 66.55±0.99 uM TE/g과 76.32±0.48 uM TE/g로 참나무톱밥을 식이한 흰점박이꽃무지 유충 추출물에 비해 큰느타 리버섯수확후배지를 식이한 흰점박이꽃무지 유충 추출물의 ORAC 지수가 높게 나타났다. 참나무톱밥과 큰느타리 버섯수확후배지를 각각 식이한 흰점박이꽃무지 유충 추출물을 각각 0, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 mg/ml의 농도로 처리하 였을 때 RAW 264.7 세포는 90% 이상의 생존율을 나타 내었으므로 참나무톱밥과 큰느타리버섯수확후배지를 각각 식이한 흰점박이꽃무지 유충 추출물은 RAW 264.7 세포에 독성을 나타내지 않는 것으로 판단된다.
산림 생태계에서 초식 곤충은 생물 다양성의 구조와 기능에서 주요한 역할을 담당하는데 알려져 있는 곤충 종 수의 25%를 차지할 정도로 중요한 부분이다. 초식 곤충 종 풍부도와 다양성은 식물 종 다양성과 밀접한 연관을 지니고 있다. 이 연구에서는 우리나라 온대림에 서식하는 초식 곤충 활동량을 나타내는 식흔량이 먹이식물 다양성, 균등도, 나뭇잎 수, 먹이식물 밀도와 관련된 기저단면적 (basal area), 흉고직경 (DBH)과 어떠한 관련이 있는가를 알고자 하였다. 지리산국립공원 온대낙엽수림에 0.1 ha의 방형구를 두 군데 설치하여 잎을 씹어먹는 초식 곤충 (chewer)에 의한 식흔량을 측정하였다. 연구결과 평균 11.2% (±1.76%)의 식흔 발생량을 확인하였고, 조사 지역 중 식물 다양성이 높은 곳보다 낮은 곳에서 식흔량이 더 많았다. 또한 한국 남부 온대림에서 초식 곤충 활동에는 밀도 요인인 기저단면적이 긍정적으로 작용하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 추후 온대 낙엽활엽수림의 영양 단계 (trophic level)에서 초식 곤충의 여러 길드가 어떤 작용으로 영향을 받는가에 대한 연구가 필요하다고 생각한다.
The purpose of the present study was to evaluate if main domestic vector mosquitoes, Aedes albopictus as a diurnal species and Culex pipiens as a nocturnal species, have correlation between reflecting luminous intensity of colors and preference for blood feeding activity. Laboratory evaluations were performed and the mosquito preferences were compared to three different color brightness such as light, primary, and dark for five fundamental color series including red, yellow, green, blue, and purple. The test bodies selected for these experiments were BioGents Sentinel traps (BG traps) with 20g dry ice in each falcon tube, which covered outside of the traps attached with three different luminous intensities such as light, primary, and dark for each different color of paper sheets. In each experiment, a pair of BG traps was placed 0.6 m away from each other in a 1.8 m x 3.7 m x 1.8 m screened enclosure. The enclosure maintained at 26±2℃, 65±5% RH, and 100 lux illumination. Evaluations were performed for two hours between 10:00 and 16:00 for each 25 Ae. ablopictus females and 15 hours from 18:00 to 9:00 for each 25 Cx. pipiens females. Each experiment was replicated four times. As a result, reflecting luminous intensity (L-value) affected and correlated negatively to the preference of the two mosquito species but the fundamental colors, green-red (a-value) and blue-yellow (b-value) were not correlated significantly to the preference (p=0.05). Aedes ablopictus females were preferred for feeding activity more to lower L-values of the colors and correlated negatively between color preference of the mosquitoes and the L-values such as r = -0.584 (p=0.003) for red, r = -0.606 (p=0.002) for yellow, r = -0.620 (p=0.001) for green, and r = -0.463 (p=0.023) for blue except purple (r = -0.129; p=0.549). Similarly, Cx. pipiens females were correlated negatively such as r = -0.590 (p=0.002) for red, r = -0.564 (p=0.005) for yellow, r = -0.687 (p=0.000) for green, r = -0.623 (p=0.001) for blue, and r = -0.689 (p=0.000). In conclusion, the color brightness were negatively correlated to the feeding activity of the two vector mosquito species but not the wavelength of visible ray. Also, the mosquito females preferred significantly darker ones in the same color series (p<0.05) except purple for Ae. ablopictus females.

The test bodies selected for these experiments were BioGents Sentinel traps (BG traps) with 20g dry ice in each falcon tube, which covered outside of the traps attached with each different color of vinyl sheets. In each experiment, a pair of BG traps was placed 0.6 m away from each other in a 1.8 m x 3.7 m x 1.8 m screened enclosure. The enclosure maintained at 26±2℃, 65±5% RH, and 100 lux illumination. Evaluations were performed for two hours between 10:00 and 16:00 for each 25 Ae. ablopictus females and 15 hours from 18:00 to 9:00 for each 25 Cx. pipiens females. The attraction rates were determined by a series of 42 simultaneous pairs of sample counts of the number of mosquitoes caught in the traps at every 30 minutes. As a result, black traps collected the largest number of Ae. albopictus as a mean 0.7 of 1.0 for Mosquito Preference Index (MPI), followed closely by red, blue, and purple (MPIs, 0.6) that were significantly higher (p<0.05) than those of green (MPI, 0.5), white (MPI, 0.3), and yellow (MPI, 0.2). Similarly, the MPIs for Cx. pipiens were significantly higher at black and red traps (MPIs, 0.7) but the MPIs (0.3) at white and yellow traps were significantly lower than those of the other colors.
참나무와 서어나무는 온대지역에 걸쳐 넓게 분포하고 있으며, 다양한 초식곤충의 먹이원이 되는 것으로 알려져 있다. 이 연구에서는 지리산국립공원 온대림에서 참나무림(반선)과 서어나무림(상선암)에서 초식곤충 활동량을 알고자 하였다. 각 조사지역에 0.1ha의 방형구를 설치하여 참나무와 서어나무의 분포를 확인 한 뒤 개체별로 초식곤충의 활동량인 잎 손상 지수를 측정하였다. 잎 손상 지수는 손상 퍼센트로 환산하여 분석하였다. 측정결과 전체 4,413장의 잎을 관찰하였으며, 참나무림에서는 2,683장, 서어나무림에서는 1,730장의 잎이 조사되었다. 초식곤충의 활동량은 참나무림과 서어나무림에서 각각 차이를 보였으며 서어나무림인 상선암에서 참나무의 식흔량과 서어나무의 식흔량 이 참나무림인 반선보다 모두 높게 나타났다. 이 연구결과를 바탕으로 온대림 우점 수종인 참나무와 서어나무에서 초식곤충의 활동량을 정량적으로 추정할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.
The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the effect of Chamaecyparis obtus extract to reduce odor emissions released from the swine feeding operations. Finisher pigs [Landrace × (Yorkshire × Duroc)] with an initial body weight averaging 50 kg were housed separately in two rooms with eighty eight pigs in each room at a swine feeding operation site. C. obtus extract was sprayed in the room by ceiling sprayer for one minute at twice per day during two months. Concentrations of odorous compounds from air in the room of the swine feeding operation were analyzed at four times during two months. Levels of butyric acid, valeric acid, i-butyric acid, ivaleric acid, skatole, methylmercaptan, and trimethylamine tended to decrease in C. obtus extract spray treatment group compared to the non-spray treatment group (P > 0.05). Odor activity values of butyric acid, valeric acid, skatole and trimethylamine were higher than other odorous compounds and decreased by 72%, 76%, 54% and 20%, respectively, in C. obtus extract spray treatment group compared to the non-spray group. Taken together, C. obtus extract showed an odor reducing capability in the air of a swine feeding operation suggesting that it possesses anti-bacterial properties as well as having a dust removal and masking effect.
본 연구는 온대활엽수림에서 초식곤충의 먹이 활동이 계절 및 고도에 따라 어떻게 변하는 가를 알아보기 위하여 수행되었다. 조사는 지난 3년간(2011~2013) 지리산국립공원의 고도가 다른 세 지역(피아골, 시암재, 노고단)에서 이루어졌다. 조사방법은 각 지역에 서식하는 수종(3종)을 선정하여 4월부터 6월까지 1~2주마다 초식곤충의 식흔 활동을 식흔지수를 이용하여 관찰하였다. 조사 결과 고도가 가장 낮은 피아골(300 m)에서 가장 먼저 식흔이 나타났고, 중간고도인 시암재(900 m)에서는 가장 많은 식흔이 조사되었다. 고도가 가장 높은 노고단(1300 m)에서는 식흔이 가장 늦게 나타났지만 짧은 시간에 급속히 식흔의 총량이 증가하였다. 또한 기존에 발표된 연구를 토대로 한 결과 초식곤충의 활동시기는 조류(곤줄박이)의 첫 산란일과 거의 비슷한 것으로 나타나 식물-곤충-2차 소비자(조류)와 밀접한 관련을 보여준다. 기후 환경이 변함에 따라 초식곤충 활동의 기간이 바뀌게 될 것이며 이러한 먹이사슬의 변동을 감시할 수 있는 지속적인 장기 생태 모니터링이 필요하다.
The purpose of the present study is to monitor diverse herbivore’s feeding activity in two localities, Mt. Jirisan National Park, a Korea LTER site and Mt. Seungdalsan, Muan, Jeonnam. We selected 11 tree species at two localities by differing elevations (> 200, 300, 600, 900, 1200m). We measured the herbivore’s feeding activity by an indirect method that calculates feeding area per leaf by diverse but unknown herbivores (ankertrass area) every two weeks from April to July. We found that the peak and duration differ along the elevation and locality: at a low elevation site (>300m), pattern of ankertrass area increased continuously from 16th Julian week to 21st week; at middle elevation site (600m), pattern of ankertrass area increased continuously from 20th Julian week to 23rd week; and at high elevation site (>600m), pattern of ankertrass area sharply increased from 22nd Julian week to 25th week. This showed that the timing of peak of herbivore activity exhibited a time-lag by elevations. We expected that the peak or duration of herbivore activity can be changed followed by environmental change and this can be monitored in a long term ecological monitoring.
Pyrifluquinazon, as a quinazinalone chemical group, based on a new mode of biological activity. It is reported that mode of action is modifies insect behavior, rapidly stopping feeding such that insects starve to death. Time-release feature and mortality effect on M. persicae using different pyrifluquinazon nano type and non-nano type were compared. Pyrifluquinazon nano type was formulated with different molecular weight and density of used chitosan (CS 30000 0.1% and CS 3000 0.3%). In the CS 30,000 0.1%, the mortality was weakly occurred at early time, but steadily increased after 4days. Finally, we confirmed more than 70% mortality as a peak at 16days. In CS 3000 0.3%, the mortality showed about 70% until 18days as a effective controlled release. Also, We examine time-release feature and mortality effect on M. persicae according to the different pyrifluquinazon nano type(CS 30000 0.1% and CS 3000 0.3%) of concentrations. The CS 30000 0.1% bioassay results of different concentration were showed that the highest concentration(100ppm) was measured better mortality than other concentration at 0 day, but cannot confirm different effect about dissimilar concentration. However, increasing rates of M. persicae were low as treatment concentrate was high. In CS 3000 0.3% 100ppm concentration bioassay result, aphid mortality reached peak at 24 days and increasing rate also low. Additionally, for the comparing of bioassay and feeding behavior of M. persicae against pyrifluquinazon nano types and non-nano type, EPG technique was carried out. In case of non nano type, feeding inhibition efficacy was showed during 4 days after treatment, but appeared similar level with control after 10days. In CS 3000 0.3% 50ppm, residual efficacy was specially showed until 28days after treatment whereas treatments with CS 30000 0.1% were similar to the control after 22days. These result show that the change of feedinng behavior and motrality of M. persicae is correlated with the change of nano type or non nano type of pyrifluquinazon.
Trunk injection of nematicides is applied to prevent pine wilt disease(PWD). Although the trunk injection of nematicides is effective to PWD prevention, it is not effective to vector insects such as adults of M. alternatus and M. saltuarius. Thus, This study was investigated for the insecticidal activity and the effect of feeding deterrence by injecting to pine trees with acetamiprid.
For screening effective nematicides, some insecticides were injected to pines on December 30th, 2008 and their insecticidal activities and feeding areas of M. alternatus and M. saltuarius were investigated in the insects breeding dishes (100× 40mm) where put on 1 to 2-year-old twig which was selected from injected pine trees in early June. As a result, insecticidal activity and feeding deterrence of acetamicprid were most effective. Feeding areas of M. alterantus adults, when tested with 1-year-old twig and 2-year-old twig of healthy pine trees, were 170.3±107.0 mm2 and 258.0±123.2 mm2 respectively. And Feeding areas of M. alterantus adults, when tested with 1-year-old twig and 2-year-old twig of pines injected at a dose of 0.3 ml per cm dbh of a pine tree with acetamiprid, were 57.7±72.3 mm2 and 65.7±51.2 mm2 respectively and their mortalities also were 0%, 28.6%. The feeding areas of M. alterantus adults tested with 1-year-old twig and 2-year-old twig of pine trees injected at a dose of 0.6 ml per cm dbh of a pine tree with acetamiprid, were not fed on it and the mortalities were 28.0%, 57.1% respectively.
In case of the feeding areas of M. saltuarius adults, when tested with 1-year-old twig and 2-year-old twig of healthy pine trees, it was 112.±35.1 mm2 and 159.2±65.2 mm2 respectively. And the feeding areas of M. saltuarius adults, when tested
with 1-year-old twig and 2-year-old twig of injected pine trees at a dose of 0.3 ml per cm dbh of a pine tree with acetamiprid were 0.61±0.0 mm2 and 8.1±12.4 mm2 and both mortalities were 23.1%. Although M. saltuarius adults, when tested with 1-year-old twig of a pine tree injected at a dose of 0.6 ml per cm dbh of a pine tree with acetamiprid, were not fed on it but M. saltuarius adults tested with 2-year-old twig of the same pine tree were 2.0±3.7 mm2 and their mortalities were 53.8%, 61.5% respectively.
We investigated insecticidal activities, the effects of feeding deterrence of acetamiprid for vector insects where fed twigs of injected pines by stop up hole with a cork or not, and the trunk injection to pine trees at a dose of 0.5, 1 ㎖ per ㎝ dbh of a pine tree with acetamiprid on the early June. As a result, all of the vector insects were not fed and the feeding area was within 11 ㎟ and the mortality of M. alternatus was 70%.
A total of 240 weaned pigs (Landrace ×Yorkshire × Duroc, 22±3 d of age, 5.16±0.90 kg initial body weight) were used to study the effect of feeding level of microbial fermented soya protein on their blood hematology, enzymes and immune cell populations. The microbial (Aspergillus oryzae + Bacillus subtilis) fermented soya protein (FSP) was used. Pigs were allotted to four dietary treatments, each comprising of 4 pens with 15 pigs. Basal diets consisted of 15% soya bean meal (Control diet); while for treatment diets SBM was replaced with 3, 6 and 9% FSP. The experimental diets were fed from 0 to 14 day after weaning and then a common commercial diet was fed from 15 to 35 day. Blood was collected on 14 and 35 day of experiment and analyzed for hematology, plasma aspartate transaminase (AST), plasma alanine transaminase (ALT) and immune cell populations. Increasing the level of FSP in the diet of pigs linearly decreased distribution of red blood cells (P<0.01), MPV (P<0.05), MO (P<0.05), EO (P<0.05) and BA (P<0.05) on d 14. Linear and quadratic decrease in the RBC (P<0.05), Hb (P<0.05), HCT (P<0.01), PLT (P<0.001) and EO (P<0.05) and linear increase in the MCHC (P<0.001), MPV (P<0.05), WBC (P<0.05) and NE (P<0.05) on d 35 was noted. Pigs fed with 6% FSP had lower (P<0.05) levels of AST and ALT on d 14, while the levels of ALT and AST on d 35 did not differ among the dietary treatments. Thus the results suggest that microbial fermented soya protein affected the hematological indices, immune cell populations and plasma enzymes in weaned pigs.
