This paper aims to propose a new systematic approach to analyze the factor productivity and to investigate those characteristics of factor productivity in operational and managerial perspectives. The Cobb-Douglas production function is adopted to estimate the labor and capital productivity. In estimating those productivities the data of The Research on the Actual Condition of Coastal Fisheries (RACF), especially those of Jeon-Nam Province are used. The statistical analysis of RACF data shows that the characteristics are a little bit different between labor and capital of the operational equipment in the coastal fisheries. The Cobb-Douglas type production function is useful in estimating the factor productivity, especially in case of ‘coastal Stow-net fishery’ even though the limited data is used. However, in case of ‘trap fishery,’ the Cobb-Douglas production function appears to have some limitations in estimation. This implies that estimating the factor productivities in fisheries employing broad perspectives and various methods are needed.

This study investigated the initial capital trend of newly-established fisheries companies during the Japanese occupation period. The initial capital size of fisheries companies provides information about the viability of the fisheries companies as well as the utilization intensity of fisheries resources. According to the analysis results, the average initial capital size of fisheries companies was larger in the enforcement period of “Chosun Company Ordinance” than in its abolition period. The initial capital size of the Chosun-capital fisheries company was smaller than that of the Japanese-capital fisheries company during the Japanese occupation period. The number of new fisheries companies funded by Chosun capital was less than the number of new fisheries companies funded by Japanese capital. Therefore, it could be seen that the Japanese fisheries companies had stronger dominance in the fisheries sector than the Chosun fisheries companies during the Japanese occupation period, and that Japanese fisheries companies were more viable than Chosun fisheries companies.

The domestic catch of squid is decreasing every year. Import volume is increasing to replace these domestic products. Import volume is expected to increase in the future, so it is necessary to study import substitution. Therefore, in this study, after selecting frozen squid, which accounts for the majority of imported squid, as the target fish species, China, Chile and Peru, which account for the majority of frozen squid imports, will be selected as the target countries for analysis. Then, the demand function of squid is estimated using the Rotterdam model, the inverse Rotterdam model, AIDS and inverse AIDS, which are the simultaneous equation demand types, and then elasticity is derived. After that, these models are compared in terms of significance, theoretical fit and practical fit.

The purpose of this study is the impact of national fishing port investment and typhoons on fisheries disaster damage. The dependent variables were the amount of damage to fishing ports, fishing boats, fisheries enhancement, external facilities, mooring facilities, functional facilities, fishing port and typhoons. The analysis period is from 2002 to 2018. Since the error term is in a simultaneous correlation, it was efficiently estimated by analyzing it with a seemingly unrelated regression (SUR) method. As a result of the analysis, external facilities have not significance to all models. Investing in mooring facilities increased the amount of damage to fishing ports for five years. Investing in functional facilities reduced the amount of damage to fishing ports and aquaculture over five years. Typhoons have significance to all models, and the amount of damage increased every time a typhoon occurred. Based on these results, as the influence of typhoons increases, it seems necessary to establish preventive measures. Timely investment and maintenance to enable the role and function of national fishing ports are considered important.
