        Animal experiments have demonstrated the effectiveness of fermented rice germ and soybean extracts in lowering blood alcohol concentration. A compound primarily derived from fermented soybean extract constitutes the principal component of DA-5521, an experimental dietary substance examined in this study. We investigated the possible hangover-alleviating effects of DA-5521 in individuals aged 19 to 50 who had previously experienced hangovers. Moreover, we enrolled 22 participants who met the eligibility criteria and conducted a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled crossover trial. Six hours after alcohol consumption, the test group exhibited a statistically significant reduction in blood acetaldehyde concentration compared with the placebo group. Further, our results displayed significantly lower levels in the DA- 5521 group at 0.50 and 0.75 h post-ingestion and substantially lower peak breath alcohol concentration compared to the placebo group. These findings confirm that consumption of DA-5521 can significantly ameliorate hangover symptoms by diminishing blood acetaldehyde concentration and reduce breath alcohol concentration.

        Spent ion exchange resins have been generated during the operation of nuclear facilities. These resins include radioactive nuclides. It is needed to fabricate them into a stable form for final disposal. Cement solidification process is a useful method for the fabrication of them into a waste form for final disposal. In this study, proper conditions for the fabrication of them into a stable waste form were determined using the cement solidification process. In-drum waste forms were then produced at the conditions, where the stability of representative samples was evaluated for final disposal. The samples were satisfied to the Waste Acceptance Criteria for low and intermediate level radioactive waste disposal sites. This result can be utilized to derive optimal conditions for the fabrication of spent ion exchange resins into a final disposal form.

        The decommissioning of nuclear facilities produces various types of radiologically contaminated waste. In addition, dismantlement activities, including cutting, packing, and clean-up at the facility site, result in secondary radioactive waste such as filters, resin, plastic, and clothing. Determining of the radionuclide content of this waste is an important step for the determination of a suitable management strategy including classification and disposal. In this work, we radiochemically characterized the radionuclide activities of filters used during the decommissioning of Korea Research Reactors (KRRs) 1 and 2. The results indicate that the filter samples contained mainly 3H (500–3,600 Bq·g−1), 14C (7.5–29 Bq·g−1), 55Fe (1.1– 7.1 Bq·g−1), 59Ni (0.60–1.0 Bq·g−1), 60Co (0.74–70 Bq·g−1), 63Ni (0.60–94 Bq·g−1), 90Sr (0.25–5.0 Bq·g−1), 137Cs (0.64–8.7 Bq·g−1), and 152Eu (0.19–2.9) Bq·g−1. In addition, the gross alpha radioactivity of the samples was measured to be between 0.32–1.1 Bq·g−1. The radionuclide concentrations were below the concentration limit stated in the low- and intermediatelevel waste acceptance criteria of the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission, and used for the disposal of the KRRs waste drums to a repository site.

        Neptunium (Np) is one of the daughter elements included in the decay chain of Pu. The quantitative analysis of Np isotopes is required for radioactive waste characterization, research on actinide chemistry, etc. Np-237 has a long half-life (2.144 million years), but its daughter Pa-233 has a relatively short half-life (26.975 days). For this reason, after a sufficient time elapses following the chemical preparation process of the analyte, the two nuclides are in radiation equilibrium in the sample. Np-237 emits alpha-rays while Pa-233 emits beta-rays. Both nuclides also emit gamma- and X-rays. In this study, alpha-rays were measured using liquid scintillation counting (LSC) method and alpha spectrometry. Gamma-spectrometry with a HPGe detector was used for the analysis of gammaand X-rays. In addition, we compared the radiometric results with quantitative analysis of Np using UV-Vis absorption spectrometry. The LSC method and the HPGe gamma-spectroscopy do not require extensive sample preparation procedures. Alpha spectroscopy requires a standard material spiking, separation by coprecipitation, and disk-type sample preparation procedure to obtain measurement efficiency and recovery factor. A reference material sample with a concentration of 5.8 mM was analyzed by the four analysis methods, and all of the measured results agreed well within a difference level of 4%.

        Strong acidic wastewater containing a radionuclide is generated from the decontamination of radioactively contaminated wastes or equipment. This wastewater is generally treated though a precipitation process using an alkali (alkali earth) hydroxides. In this precipitation process, a significant amount of alkali (alkali earth) sulfates are generated, which is the reason for the increase in the radioactive waste generation. In this study, a method for separating only radionuclides and metal ions from the wastewater was evaluated. For this reason, precipitation behaviors of radionuclides and metal ions by hydrazine injections were investigated using equilibrium calculations. In addition, behaviors of hydrazine decomposition after removal of radionuclides and metal ions were analyzed for recycling the wastewater.

        This study aims to establish a modified analytical method with sensitivity and reliability for streptomycin (STP) and dihydrostreptomycin (DHS) of residues level in pig tissues, plasma and urine by LC-MS/MS on the basis of previous studies. The mass parameters of quantitative and qualitative ions for STP and DHS were optimized using multiple reaction monitoring in positive mode. The separation of compounds was conducted using BEH Amide column according to material’s characteristics. The analytes in plasma were extracted with only organic solvents. In muscle and kidney, KH2PO4 buffer solution containing 2% CCl3COOH and EDTA-Na was used as extraction solvent. The WCX cartridege was selected as SPE cartridge in considering high recoveries for STP and DHS. The analytes in urine were extracted by organic solvents with acid and addition of EDTA. The limits of detection (LODs) in STP and DHS ranged 0.45~3.66 μg/kg and 0.22~0.78 μg/kg, respectively. The limits of quantification (LOQs) were 1.35~11.10 μg/kg in STP and 0.66~2.36 μg/kg in DHS. The recoveries (%) were 94.29~104.5% in STP and 92.32~108.45% in DHS except for plasma with lower values (61.45/68.5%, respectively). In the precision evaluation, the coefficient of variation (CV, %) of STP showed <10.50% on intra-day and <18.04% on inter-day. The CV (%) of DHS showed <8.42% on intra-day, whereas <17.98% on inter-day. The modified method is reliable for continuous residual monitoring in pig to ensure food safety for consumer’s health. In addition, this method could be used in study relation to residue depletion and pharmacokinetics of veterinary drug.

        The purpose of this study is to provide the priority of the front-loading factors in the design stage of the automotive parts development process in order to efficiently and effectively respond to the demands of the car maker (customer). Front-loading is defined as a strategy in order to improve development performance by shifting the identification and solving of design problems to earlier phases of a product development process. Two approaches of the front-loading are project-to-project knowledge transfer and rapid problem solving. For the study, a survey was conducted on the R&D department in the automobile parts company and analyzed by AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) method. The result of the survey shows the cost savings is the highest weight in terms of front-loading effect and in terms of front-loading factors, it gives priorities as “the problems of past project” first, “Design Review” second, “CAE (Computer Aided Engineering)” third, “FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)” fourth, “benchmarking” and SR (Sourcing of Requirements). The results of the study will be helpful to provide practical value for improving product design of component development.

        예술은 미에 대한 추구이지만 동시에 참선과 유사한 목적을 가지는 행위이기도 하다. 즉 반복과 몰입을 통해 복잡한 생각을 덜어내고 스트레스를 경감시키는 기능을 가진다는 것이다. 예술 작품을 만드는 과정은 전체적으로 보면 굉장히 전문적이고 미적인 감각과 경험을 필요로 하지만, 그렇지 않은 부분도 엄연히 존재하며 그러한 부분이 요구하는 것은 대부분 단순한 반복적 행위들이다. 이 지점을 상품화시켜서 예술 작품을 상대적으로 단순하게 모사할 수 있도록 하는 제품들이 지속적으로 나오고 있으며, 이는 고도화된 사회에서의 스트레스를 보여주는 것이기도 하다. 이러한 유행에 힘입어 티베트 불교의 만다라나 젠탱글 등의 수행적 예술이 매체에서 소개되기도 하였다. 스트링 아트는 이와 유사하게 수행적인 성격을 가지며, 동시에 수학적인 요소를 가지고 있는 예술 표현 방식이다. 스트링 아트는 일정한 공간에서 실을 계속해서 연결시켜서 특정한 기하학적 무늬나 그림을 얻어내는 표현 방식인데, 이를 통해 정서적 안정을 얻고자 하는 목적으로 처음 개발 되었으나 현대에는 여러 작가들이 사용하는 작품적인 요소가 되었다. 게임과 같은 가상 환경에서 많은 사람들이 예술적 행위들을 하곤 하는데, 본 논문에서는 가상 환경에서도 스트링 아트와 같이 새로운 표현 양식을 적용할 수 있도록 표현 양식을 알고리즘화 시킨 사례를 찾아보고, 이를 재구성하여 어떻게 가상 환경에서 이를 적용할 것인지에 대하여 연구하였다. 또한 이를 통해 가상 환경에서도 심미적이고 수행적인 예술의 기능을 모사할 수 있음을 보였다.

        손끝은 최고의 촉각 센서이자 최고의 운동 기관이다. 많은 기술자들은 손끝의 감각에 의존하여 그들의 정확하고 숙련된 솜씨로 결과물을 만들곤 한다. 컴퓨터 게임 역시 섬세한 조작을 요구하는 분야임에도 불구하고 제작과 구현의 어려움 때문에 대부분의 게임 인터페이스들은 촉각이나 손이 나타내는 복잡한 표현들은 고려하지 않는다. 또한 VR이 빠르게 발전하고 있고 여러 종류의 가상 환경 몰입형 입력 장치들이 나타나고 있지만, 그들의 기술 수준은 게임 패드에 각종 센서가 추가된 정도에 머무르고 있다. 본 논문에서는 손가락의 위치를 통한 3D 인터페이스를 설계하는 방법론을 소개한다. 전통적으로 손을 인식하는 입력 방식에서는 주로 몇몇 제스쳐와 간단한 표현들을 인식하는데 그쳤으며, 상대적으로 미소한 손가락 관절의 움직임이나 손과 손 사이의 상호작용 등의 복잡한 제스쳐에 대해서는 전혀 고려하지 못하고 있다. 본 방법론은 이러한 표현들을 어떻게 구현할 것인지 제시하며, 손가락의 위치나 각도 등 복합적인 데이터를 계산하여 의미 있는 정보들을 도출해낼 수 있게 한다. 또한 실험을 위해 구현된 간단한 프로그램에서는 구체적으로 어떻게 작동하는지와 무엇을 표현할 수 있는지 보여준다. 이를 통해 3D와 몰입형 가상 환경에서 손이 나타내는 복잡한 표현들을 구현하는데 적용될 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.

        The health benefits associated with consumption of fresh produce have been clearly demonstrated and encouraged by international nutrition and health authorities. However, since fresh produce is usually minimally processed, increased consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables has also led to a simultaneous escalation of foodborne illness cases. According to the report by the World Health Organization (WHO), 1 in 10 people suffer from foodborne diseases and 420,000 die every year globally. In comparison to other processed foods, fresh produce can be easily contaminated by various routes at different points in the supply chain from farm to fork. This review is focused on the identification and characterization of possible sources of foodborne illnesses from chemical, biological, and physical hazards and the applicable methodologies to detect potential contaminants. Agro-chemicals (pesticides, fungicides and herbicides), natural toxins (mycotoxins and plant toxins), and heavy metals (mercury and cadmium) are the main sources of chemical hazards, which can be detected by several methods including chromatography and nano-techniques based on nanostructured materials such as noble metal nanoparticles (NMPs), quantum dots (QDs) and magnetic nanoparticles or nanotube. However, the diversity of chemical structures complicates the establishment of one standard method to differentiate the variety of chemical compounds. In addition, fresh fruits and vegetables contain high nutrient contents and moisture, which promote the growth of unwanted microorganisms including bacterial pathogens (Salmonella, E. coli O157: H7, Shigella, Listeria monocytogenes, and Bacillus cereus) and non-bacterial pathogens (norovirus and parasites). In order to detect specific pathogens in fresh produce, methods based on molecular biology such as PCR and immunology are commonly used. Finally, physical hazards including contamination by glass, metal, and gravel in food can cause serious injuries to customers. In order to decrease physical hazards, vision systems such as X-ray inspection have been adopted to detect physical contaminants in food, while exceptional handling skills by food production employees are required to prevent additional contamination.

        It has been reported that collagen and elastin inhibit skin wrinkle formation. Skin elasticity is closely associated with the formation of wrinkles induced by UV exposure. In this study, we investigated the protective effects Pleurotus ostreatus (P. ostreatus) on UVB irradiation induced wrinkle in hairless mice. We evaluated for their free radical-scavenging activities against 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), the anti-elastase activities, and for their anti-matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) activity in human skin fibroblast cells. In the wrinkle measurement and image analysis of skin replicas, the results showed that P. ostreatus significantly inhibited wrinkle formation caused by chronic UVB irradiation. These results suggest that P. ostreatus has anti-wrinkle activity.

        There are many other detection methods for Bursaphelenchus xylophilus. However, Baermann funnel method, PCR-based methods, which are laborious and time consuming processes that are unsuitable to rapid diagnose the Pine Wilt Disease (PWD) on the field. For these reasons, the aim of our experiment is not only to apply field diagnostic for pine wood nematode (PWN) but also to reduce total time for detection PWN in the pine trees by loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) with phosphate (Pi)-induced coloration reaction which could be yes or no answer for detection of PWN has not required UV detector but it just could be discriminated by naked eyes within 30 min. Genomic DNA was directly extracted from pine wood chips by Wood Chips Direct Lysis procedure which can be used for LAMP only after simple dilution. Our results suggest that LAMP-Pi detection method, simple and rapid method for detection of PWN, could be applied to the field diagnostic for PWD.

        한국산 금좀벌아과의 4종 Diglochis sylvicola (Walker), Lariophagus obtusus Kamijo, Mokrzeckia lazoensis Tselikh, Paracarotomus cephalotes Ashmead과 가시금좀벌아과 아과의 4종 Lamprotatus duplicatus (Kamijo), L. hikosanus (Kamijo), Stictomischus momoii Kamijo, S. scaposus Thomson을 처음 보고한다. 이 중 3속 Diglochis Förster, Paracarotomus Ashmead, Stictomischus Thomson 은 한국에 처음 보고되는 속이다. 본 논문에서는 한국산 금좀벌아과와 가시금좀벌아과의 속 검색표와 진단 형질의 사진을 제공하였다.
