        Learning style instruments continue to enjoy widespread use despite the questionable reliability and validity. The study examined whether reliability and validity of Reid’s (1984) Perceptual Learning Style Preference Questionnaire (PLSPQ) hold true across Korean EFL college students. The PLSPQ was administered to 309 students from eight major areas. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficients, ranging from .65 to .81, yielded good reliability with the exception of the Auditory scale. Exploratory factor analysis indicating the dimensionality of the PLSPQ, however, produced that certain items did not clearly group into the six learning styles as Reid hypothesized. Thus, seven-factor solution in the present study was not conceptually consistent with Reid’s learning style model. Subsequently, a four-factor solution as an alternative would provide a more orthogonal and conceptually acceptable learning style framework for the students sampled. The study further identified the students’ preferred English learning styles and explored whether their gender and major fields of study affect the learning styles in terms of the four-factor solution. Due to the mixed evidence for the reliability and validity of the instrument, the study suggested more replication studies of the factor structure that shows distinct characteristics of Korean EFL students.

        The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a practical English program for college students which had been administered both on- and off-line. After over 1,400 freshmen took two TOEIC-based courses consecutively, questionnaires were administered to measure the students’ satisfaction of the program and their perceived usefulness of on-line learning. The effectiveness of the English program was measured through the improvement in the students’ TOEIC scores, their perceived usefulness of online learning, and their satisfaction with the program. The results showed a statistically significant increase in the students’ TOEIC scores in both semesters, with greater improvement in the second semester as compared to the first. Although the students’ overall perception of the usefulness of e-learning was in the middle on the scale, those who perceived online learning as useful were shown to have spent more time studying for the courses outside class, thereby improving their TOEIC scores and enhancing their level of satisfaction with the program. Pedagogical and research implications are suggested.

        Experiment on the thermal response of college-age Korean was conducted in a thermal environmental chamber during winter season. Eight environmental conditions composed of five air temperatures (18∼26℃) and two relative humidities (40, 60%) were selected. To investigate the uniformity of thermal environments, the spatial distributions and the temporal variations of thermal parameters were examined in the test chamber. Subjects of 7 females or 7 males were questioned in the chamber for three hours, where thermal and comfort sensations were surveyed every fifteen minutes. The repeatability and temporal variation of thermal response were discussed. The thermal sensation votes of subjects were compared with the predicted mean votes calculated from the thermal parameters and human parameters. The correlation between thermal sensation votes and comfort sensation votes of subjects were discussed.

        This study was designed to identify the actual state of ready-to-eat street-foods usage in a college-town in northern part of seoul. For the empirical study, data was collected from customers who had eaten street-foods and a survey was conducted from 16 to 30, May 2006. The results showed that many respondents had irregular eating habits. More than 60% of them responded they usually skipped breakfast and the reason was no time. It was shown that they have had Frequent snacks and unbalanced diet. The results of survey are as follows ; 1. The major time for street-foods usage: p.m 3-5 (28.77%). 2. The frequency of street-foods usage: 1-2 times/week (43.85%). 3. The street-foods usage days of the week: weekday (52.79%). 4. The mean cost for the onetime purchase of street-foods usage: 1000-3000won (71.79%). 5. The monthly cost for the purchase of street-foods usage: below 50000won (81.84%). 6. The reason for street-foods usage: mainly convenience (60.61%). 7. The reason for minding street-foods : mainly insanitary (40.50)%. 8. Factors considered when choosing street-foods: tastes of the foods (65.08%). Also, it was shown that over 50% of respondents have considered the street-foods as the worth of meal replacement, and taken effective factor on eating habits for influx of new culture. It was indicated that problems of street-foods usage was the unbalanced nutrition for 81.8% of respondents and suggestions for improving the street-foods were sanitary controls for products for 63.4% of respondents.

        In the paper, the development of college English teaching and testing in China in the past two decades will be reviewed focusing on the promulgation and implementation of the National College English Teaching Syllabuses since the 1980s and the launch of the National College English Test (CET) in the late 1980s. The second part of the paper focuses on the achievements made and problems encountered in the development of college English teaching and testing. The English proficiency of college students in China will be presented by referring to the CET Syllabus. Examples of students’ performance in the CET will be given to illustrate their communicative competence. The imbalanced development of the English proficiency of college students across the country will also be discussed and possible explanations given for the discrepancy. The paper will then move on to a discussion on the impact of language testing on teaching with special reference to the washback of the CET on college English teaching in China. Both beneficial and detrimental effects of the CET on teaching and learning will be presented and the social consequences of the large-scale standardized test will be discussed in some detail. The paper ends with a brief introduction to the recent reform of the college English teaching and testing in China.

        본 연구는 인지 연속선 이론(Cognitive Continuum Theory)을 대학 교육 환경에 적용하여 학생들이 대학 내에서 개설된 각 과목을 수강할 때, 그에 요구되는 인지 모드를 사용하는가를 알아보고자 하는 것이었다. 또한 대학 교육이 전반적으로 요구하는 인지 모드와 학생들의 전반적인 인지 모드를 비교해 보았다. 실험 결과, 학생들은 실제 자신들의 평상시 인지 양식과 관계없이 각 과목에서 요구하는 인지 모드를 수업 중에 사용하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 학생들이 상황에 맞는 적응력을 가지고 있다고 볼 수 있겠다. 한편, 대학에서 전반적으로 학생들에게 분석적인 인지 모드를 사용하도록 유도하는 것으로 나타났다 대학 교육이 학생들의 적응력과 융통성을 증진시키기 위해서는 교육을 담당한 교수진들이 다양한 인지 모드를 사용하는 것이 필요할 것이다. 하지만 학생들이 각 과목에서 요구되는 인지 모드를 사용하였을 때 높은 수행력을 보일 것이라는 예측은 이 실험을 통해 증명할 수 없었다.

        영상매체에 등장하는 PPL광고가 실제 소비자인 시청자들에게 미치는 영향에 대하여 대학생들을 대상으로 조사하였다. PPL에 대한 인식의 차이를 조사하고 그 차이가 유행관여도과 어떤 관계가 있으며, 또 이것은 실제소비로 어떻게 이어지는지 조사하였다 대학생 189명을 대상으로 PPL인식도, TV나 영화에서 배우가 입은 의복 구매여부, 구매만족도, 유행관여도, PPL이 소비자의 의복 구매에 미치는 영향 등에 대해 조사하였다. 유행관여도를 기준으로 고저의 두 집단으로 나누어 이에 따라 분석한 결과, 유행에 민감하고 유행 관여가 높은 학생일수록 PPL광고에 등장하는 의복에 주목하고 있었으며 PPL광고에 사용된 브랜드 중에서 기억하는 브랜드 수가 많았다. 유행관여도 저집단은 의복구매시에 또래의 스타일, 주변의 충고 등을 많이 참고하는 반면에, 유행관여도 고집단은 패션잡지와 PPL의복을 많이 참고하고 있었다. 또 PPL 의복을 관심 있게 보는 학생이 실제로 스타 옷을 많이 구입하고 있었다 PPL로 인한 의복구매 영향력이 크다고 인식하고 있을수록 해당 브랜드, 기업, 제품의 선호도가 긍정적으로 변경되었다고 답하였다. 유행관여도가 클수록 기업의 선호도가 긍정적으로 변경되었다고 답하였다.

        목적 : 본 연구의 목적은 다감각환경 적용이 인간의 정서상태에 미치는 영향을 조사하여 스트레스 관리 및 예방법으로서의 의미가 있는지 알아보고자 하였다. 연구방법 : 155명의 대학생을 대상으로 스노즐렌 적용을 하였으며 측정도구로 개정판 대학생용 생활 스트레스 도구와 정서상태 검사(POMS)를 사용하여 치료전후를 비교하였다.스노젤렌 적용방법은 대상을 개별과 그룹으로 무작위로 구성하였고,1회씩 30분의 치료를 실시하였다. 결과 : 정서상태 점수는 치료전 103점에서 치료 후 69점으로 감소하여 유의하게 감소하였고,각 요인별 정서요인 들도 모두 유의한 차이를 보였다.개별치료,그룹치료간의 치료형태에 따른 정서상태 변화의 차이는 없었으며,성별에 따라서는 피곤감을 제외한 모든 요인에서 치료전후의 유의한 차이가 없었다.정서상태 총점과 불안감,우울감,분노감,피곤감 요인이 스트레스와 밀접한 상관관계를 보였다. 결론 : 스노즐렌 적용이 정서상태에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다는 것을 확인하였으며 이를 통하여 정신건강예방 분야에서 작업치료 중재방법으로 활용하기 위한 지속적인 연구가 필요할 것으로 기대된다.

        This study investigates the effects of indirect and direct error feedback on Korean college students’ accuracy improvement in writing and their responses to the feedback they received. The 32 participants of the study were divided into four groups of different error feedback conditions: indirect feedback, indirect feedback along with metalinguistic feedback, direct feedback, and direct feedback along with metalinguistic feedback. Direct feedback was full, explicit error correction, while indirect feedback was coded error correction in which errors were underlined and marked with code. Metalinguistic feedback was marginal explanations about errors. Analysis of error rates in the students’ first and last essay writing did not show statistically significant difference in the accuracy improvement of the four groups. In other words, indirect error feedback was not more effective than direct feedback. However, the gain score in each group showed that indirect feedback and direct feedback were more effective when they were combined with metalinguistic feedback. In particular, the students’ learning diary clearly indicated that the students valued error feedback on their writing and that follow-up feedback was crucial in providing indirect error feedback.

        The purpose of this study was to research eating-out information search methods according to college student's lifestyle and their influences on overall satisfaction at fast-food restaurants in eastern province of Kangwondo. Lifestyle was divided into 7 factors and 6 clusters. According to the results, information search methods through Newspaper, magazine and word of mouth were used the most preferably by Cluster 3, 'Brand preference intention'. And TV advertising was used the most preferably by Cluster 4, 'Convenience intention', and the advertisement through internet was used the most preferably by Cluster 5, 'Health · effort intention'. However, Information searches through TV advertising and word of mouth had negative influence on the overall satisfaction. But method through internet had positive influences on the overall satisfaction. Eventually, it's proved that information search methods had significant differences according to student's lifestyle. And some information search methods influenced their overall satisfaction. Therefore, food-sonics corporations need to try reducing negative images of various advertisements and activating positive aspects of specialized promotion instruments.
