        The Azuki bean weevil, Callosobruchus chinensis L., is a common insect pest of stored products in the world. Radio-frequencydependent oviposition, development and adult performances of C. chinensis were examined at five radio-frequencies of0 (control), 5, 10, 20, and 30 kHz on azuki bean, cowpea, and mung bean seeds. The effects were studied on two successivegenerations of C. chinensis. The results showed that radio-frequency application have significant effects on the life variablesof C. chinensis. Radio-frequency exposures on three seed species not only impacted on developmental time, adult longevityand adult weight but negative effects were also transmitted to the successive generations. Longer developmental time andthe least adults of C. chinensis were emerged with shorter longevity in case of radio-frequency treatment than untreated.Decreasing the radio-frequency level further reduced the adult longevity and increased time for development of adults.The least adult emergence and short longevity was recorded for 5 kHz treatment. Radio-frequency treatments have alsoaffected on the adult performance such as weight of adult. The life variables of C. chinensis are discussed in terms oftargeting susceptibilities to radio-frequencies in storage as an alternative to chemical treatments.

        Ethyl formate (EF) and methyl salicylate (MS) are naturally occurring and generally safe substances for use. Sub-lethaldoses of EF and MS were evaluated to find synergistic fumigation action against azuki bean beetle (ABB), Callosobruchuschinensis (L.). Susceptibility of the ABB to EF was in the order of eggs =adults >larvae >pupae. Adults was most sensitiveto MS, and followed by eggs. Larvae and pupae were highly tolerant to MS. However, in synergistic effects of EF andMS showed that all the stages of ABB were highly sensitive in the order of adults >eggs >larvae >pupae. Highest synergisticratio was found against adults when using LC10 of both EF and MS as compared to other stages. Notably, MS synergizedthe EF exposure to all stages of ABB. This finding paves the way to exploiting synergistic activity of MS and EF againstABB for the safeguard of stored azuki bean grains.

        본 연구는 구기자 항산화 성분의 최적 추출과 항산화 활성의 변화를 모니터링 하였다. 건조 구 기자의 추출 조건은 에탄올 농도(X1, 0∼80%) 및 추출 시간(X2, 1∼5 hr)이며, 종속변수로는 수율, 안토시 아닌, 플라보노이드 및 DPPH 라디컬 소거능으로 반응표면분석을 실시하였다. 가용성 고형분 수율, 안토시 아닌, 플라보노이드 및 DPPH 라디컬 소거능에 대한 회귀식의 R2은 각각 0.9066, 0.9859, 0.8645, 0.9464 로 1∼10%의 유의수준에서 유의성이 인정되었다. 건조 구기자 가용성 고형분 수율이 가장 높은 추출 조 건은 에탄올 농도 8.25%에서 4.22 hr 추출한 것(23.12%)으로 나타났다. 안토시아닌이 가장 높은 추출 조 건은 에탄올 농도 79.98%에서 3.06 hr 추출한 것(흡광도 1.43)으로 나타났다. 플라보노이드의 가장 높은 추출 조건은 에탄올 농도 67.02%에서 3.37 h 추출한 것(3,100 μg/100 g)으로 나타났다. 그리고 DPPH 라디컬 소거능이 가장 높은 추출 조건은 에탄올 농도 69.81%에서 1.67 h 추출한 것(96.93%)으로 나타났 다. 안토시아닌, 플라보노이드 및 DPPH 라디컬 소거능에 대한 등고선도를 겹쳐 그려 얻은 최적 조건(에탄 올 농도 70% 및 추출 시간 2,5 hr)으로 추출된 추출물의 안토시아닌은 1.0080(흡광도) 이었으며, 플라보 노이드 함량은 3,145 μg/100 g, 그리고 DPPH 라디컬 소거능은 97%로써 증류수로 1시간 추출한 대조구 (안토시아닌 0.4652(흡광도), 플라보노이드 1,633 μg/100 g 및 DPPH 라디컬 소거능 87%)에 비해 높은 항산화 성분 추출 및 항산화 효과를 나타내었다.

        This study added stevia leaf powder at ratios of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 percent to Omija-pyun (Schisandra chinensis Jelly) as a natural low-calorie sweetener instead of sugar which is added to Omija-pyun in considerable amounts to evaluate quality characteristics and antioxidant activities compared to the control group with the addition of sugar. Moisture content of Omija-pyun expanded by increasing the measurement of stevia leaf powder (p<0.001), pH (p<0.01) and sugar content (p<0.001) decreased. L-values and b-values revealed a tendency to increase by adding more stevia leaf powder, but a-value revealed a tendency to decrease (p<0.001). Hardness (p<0.001) and chewiness (p<0.05) decreased by adding more stevia leaf powder. Based on the consumer preference evaluation, Omija-pyun with the addition of 0.5 percent stevia leaf powder was the most preferable in terms of color and flavor (p<0.001). The control group and Omija-pyun with the addition of 0.5 percent stevia leaf powder was the most preferable in terms of taste and texture (p<0.001). There were significant differences in the organoleptic properties except hardness between the samples by quantitative descriptive analysis. The control group revealed the highest preference in terms of redness and transparency, and redness and transparency tended to decrease by adding more stevia leaf powder (p<0.001). Organoleptic properties on bitterness and sourness were enhanced by adding more stevia leaf powder in the principal component analysis (PCA). Regarding antioxidant properties, total phenol compounds and flavonoid contents of Omija-pyun increased by adding more stevia leaf powder, and DPPH radical scavenging capacity also increased (p<0.001). Based on results, it is preferable to serve Omija-pyun with the addition of 1.0 percent stevia leaf powder instead of sugar within the context of quality and antioxidant activity.

        호리허리노린재는 유숙기의 벼이삭을 가해하여 반점미를 유발하는데, 아직까지는 일본에서만 피해가 보고되고 있다. 한국에서는 제주도와 남부 해안 주변의 강아지풀 군락에서 주로 발견되고 있다. 하지만 기후변화에 의해 분포가 확장되고 밀도가 증가하게 될 경우, 주요 해충이 될 가능성이 있어 호리허리노린재의 월동성충 유입모델과 발육산란모델 자료를 이용하여 계절 발생 모형을 작성하였다. 또한 미래 지구온난화 기후예측모델인 RCP 8.5 시나리오 를 이용하여 년도에 따른 변화를 비교 분석하였다. 2015년의 월동성충 유입이 50%가 되는 시기는 175일(Julian day)이며, 총 3세대가 발생하는 것으로 나타났으나 2세대가 발생 최성기였다. 2090년대에는 159일에 50%의 월동 성충 유입이 완료되며, 년간 4세대가 발생할 것으로 예측되었다. 월동성충 유입과 유사하게 발생 최성기는 2015년 269일에서 2090년대 260일로 점차 앞당겨질 것으로 예측되었다. 발생 최성기의 개체수는 처음 성충 1마리가 유입되었 을 때, 2015년에는 3.41마리, 2090년대에는 268.12마리로 급증할 것으로 예측되었다.

        Callosobruchus chinensis (Coleoptera: Bruchidae) is a cosmopolitan pest of stored grain legumes. This study assessed the effects of short-term exposure to low-temperatures (4, 0, and -4℃) and seven durations of storage (1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 days) on the survival, development, and adult performance of C. chinensis in laboratory. The effects were studied on three life stages (egg, larva [2-3 instar], and pupa) of C. chinensis. The results showed that low-temperature have significant effects on the life variables of C. chinensis. Among the stages, egg and pupa stages were most sensitive to low-temperature. The very low survival rates of eggs and no pupa survived at –4℃ after 10 days storage. Cold exposure at -4℃ not only increased egg and pupa mortality, but the negative effects also transmitted to the larvae and pupa developed from these eggs. Increasing the duration of cold exposure further reduced survival rates. Low-temperature treatments have also affected on the adult performances such as adult weight. However, there were not any negative effects of low-temperatures on the seed germination. The life variables of C. chinensis are discussed in terms of targeting particular susceptibilities to low-temperatures in different storage duration as an alternative to chemical treatments.

        본 연구에서는 2014년부터 2016년가지 한라산 아고산대 대표수종인 구상나무림, 주목림, 눈향나무림의 탄소분포와 탄소수지를 파악하였다. 식물체 유기탄소량, 유기탄소흡수량, 낙엽을 통해 임상으로 유입되는 유기탄소량, 임상에 축적된 유기탄소량은 구상나무림에서 각각 50.58, 3.11, 1.68 ton C ha-1로 가장 높았으며, 주목림에서는 각각 15.62, 1.53, 1.38 ton C ha-1 이었고, 눈향나무림에서 2.86, 0.77, 0.64 ton C ha-1로 가장 낮았다. 임상에 축적된 유기탄소량은 구상나무림, 주목림, 눈향나무림에서 각각 1.67, 0.86, 0.97 ton C ha-1로 구상나무림에서 가장 높았고 주목림에서 가장 낮았다. 토양에 축적된 유기탄소량과 토양호흡량은 각각 구상나무림에서 41.51, 3.49 ton C ha-1 로 가장 높았으며, 주목림에서 129.84, 2.61 ton C ha-1 이었고, 눈향나무림에서 175.93, 1.92 ton C ha-1로 가장 낮았다. NEP는 각각 -0.38, -1.08, -1.15 ton C ha-1 로 유기탄소를 모두 대기로부터 흡수하는 양보다 방출하는 양이 많았다. 이상으로 볼 때, 한라산 아고산 산림의 식물체 유기탄소량, 생태계 탄소수지는 낮아 유기탄소 흡수원으로써의 역할이 적지만 산림 토양에 많은 양의 유기탄소를 저장하고 있기 때문에 높은 수준의 생태계 서비스를 제공하고 있었다. 본 연구는 국내에서 연구되지 않은 특이생태계인 제주도 아고산대의 탄소분포와 탄소수지를 파악할 수 있는 기초자료가 될 것이다.

        Many kinds of medicinal herbs have been used to treat inflammation in Oriental medicine. However, there few studies have investigated the anti-inflammatory activity of medicinal herbs. In this study, we used mouse bone marrow cells (BMs) treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS), a simulator of osteomyelitis, to screen medicinal herbs having anti-inflammatory activity. Specifically, we investigated the activity of an extract of Rhus chinensis (RC) using metabolic activity and cytokine production of the BMs treated with LPS and RC. The metabolic activity of BMs was measured using Cell Counting Kit-8® solution. RC decreased the metabolic activity of LPS-treated BMs. A viability assay using trypan blue solution demonstrated that RC marginally decreased the viability of LPS-treated BMs. Flow cytometry analysis revealed that RC decreased the mitochondrial membrane potential of BMs, regardless of LPS treatment. To investigate the anti-inflammatory activity of RC, we measured the production of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha and interleukin (IL)-10 in BMs. LPS increased the production of both cytokines in BMs. Interestingly, RC induced a greater increase in IL-10 than TNF-alpha in LPS-treated BMs. Taken together, RC decreased metabolic activity and modulated the production of inflammation-related cytokines in LPS-treated BMs. These findings suggest that RC can be used as a medicinal herb with anti-inflammatory activity.

        To investigate the oviposition preference and development of azuki bean weevil (Callosobruchus chinensis L.), the following six different leguminous seeds were used in this study: red bean (Vigna angularis (Willd.) Ohwi & Ohashi), black soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.), soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.), seoritae (Glycine max (L.) Merr.), small black bean (Rhynchosia nulubilis) and kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris var. humilis Alef.). In the study of oviposition preference, the numbers of eggs per leguminous seed on red bean, black soybean, soybean, seoritae and small black bean were 1.23, 0.61, 0.69, 1.05 and 1.13, respectively. The maximum daily number of eggs was observed at 48 hours and the minimum was at 96 hours. According to each host leguminous seed, developmental time for each host seed was different. The shortest adult emergence time was on red bean (25.27 days). The other five leguminous seeds increased or doubled the adult emergence time. Adult emergence rates feeding on red bean, seoritae, black soybean, soybean, small black bean were 83.33%, 28.23%, 27.87%, 20.44%, and 11.59%, respectively. Emergence rate on red bean was four times higher than the rate on other seeds. The longevity of emerged female adults was almost all longer than that of males. The male adults weighed the lowest of feeding on small black bean. Female adults weighed the lowest of feeding on soybean. Adult weights were the heaviest for both males and females feeding on red bean. As a result, hosts of azuki bean weevil could decrease oviposition rate, emergence rate, adult longevity, and adult weight but increase emergence time. Especially in kidney bean, adult was not completely emerged. No eggs were laid. These results suggest that there might be emergence inhibitors in kidney bean. These imformation might be used to control damages caused by azuki bean weevils.

        본 연구는 추출물 농도에 따른 생리활성물질의 용출량을 측정하기 위해 전자공여능과 총 폴 리페놀 함량을 측정한 결과이다. 전자공여능은 추출물의 첨가 농도가 15%인 경우는 21.81%로 나타났 고, 35% 농도에서 40.45%로 가장 높았다. 한약재의 첨가 농도가 증가함에 따라 전자공여능은 유의적으 로 증가하였다(p<0.05). 가장 높은 35% 첨가 농도에서의 40.45% 공여능은 이보다 더 낮았으므로 전자 공여능은 미약한 것으로 생각된다. 총 폴리페놀함량은 한방약술 15%에서는 113.89±1.79 ㎍ GAE/㎖로 나타났고, 한방약술 35% 에서는 274.24±0.71 ㎍ GAE/㎖로 나타나서 첨가물의 농도 증가에 따라 총 폴리페놀의 함량도 유의적으로 증가하였다(p<0.05). 추출물 농도가 30%에서 총 폴리페놀 함량의 증가 폭이 61.75 ㎍ GAE/㎖로 가장 높았다.

        The development of resistant seeds to manage this pest is a big challenge for breeders. We investigated the oviposition preference and development of C. chinensis on two susceptible mungbean cultivars (Seonwha and Gyeongseon) and one previously reported resistant cultivar Jangan, compared to the susceptible cowpea, Yeonbun, by offering a multiple choice test and a no-choice test. Additional, insect stage wise development of C. chinensis was also examined at four temperatures (20, 25, 30 and 35℃). The both choice tests results showed that the cowpea is the most suitable seed host for oviposition. Total developmental time from egg to adult stage ranged from 27.01 to 38.2 days, and developmental time was shortest on the cowpea and longest on Jangan mungbean. However, no successful development of C. chinensis on Jangan mungbean occurred at all constant temperatures. Higher rate of adult emergence and longer adult longevity were found on cowpea and mungbean except Jangan mungbean. Results suggest, higher performance of C. chinensis on cowpea and mungbean might be governed by physical as well as chemical attributes of the seeds. Thus, Jangan mungbean could be stand as a resistant one against bruchids and it could be a resistant sources for successful breeding.

        The azuki bean weevil, Callosobruchus chinensis L., which is one of the notorious stored grain insect pest. Temperature-dependent development of C. chinensis. was examined at six temperatures of 14, 18, 22, 26, 30, and 34℃ on azuki bean and cowpea seeds. The total developmental time (egg to adult) decreased with increasing temperature from 14 to 34℃ on both seeds. However, total developmental time varied from 127.9 and 125.9 days at 14℃ to 19.9 and 20.3 days at 34℃ on azuki bean and cowpea seeds, respectively. The lower temperature thresholds (Tmin) were estimated to be 9.52℃ and 10.36℃, and the thermal constants (K) were 526.31 DD and 454.54 DD, on azuki bean and cowpea using general linear model, respectively, and the lower temperature thresholds and the thermal constants estimated by Ikemoto-Takai linear models were 10.63℃ and 10.79℃, and were 466.18 DD and 436.28 DD, on azuki bean and cowpea, respectively. These findings on thermal requirements and temperature thresholds can be used to predict the occurrence, number of generations and population dynamics of C. chinensis.

        팥바구미(Callosobruchus chinensis L.)의 산란 선호성 및 성장조사를 위해 6가지 콩과식물 종자인 팥, 흑태, 백태, 서리태, 서목태, 강낭콩을 선택, 실험을 하였다. 각 종자당 산란수는 팥 1.23개, 흑태 0.61개, 백태 0.69개, 서리태 1.05개, 서목태 1.13개로 나타났으며, 기주식물에 따라 성장시간이 2배 이상 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 우화율은 팥, 서리태, 흑태, 백태, 서목태( 83.33%, 28.23%, 27.87%, 20.44%, 11.59%), 순으로 나타났으며, 모든 종자에서 팥과 4배 이상의 차이를 보였다. 강낭콩에서 우화는 전혀 없었다. 성충수명은 암컷보다 수컷이 대부분 길었고 암컷의 경우 팥 9.43일, 서리태 8.86일, 흑태 7.88일, 백태 7.17일, 서목태 6.80일로 나타났다. 각 성충의 무게는, 암수모두 팥에서 가장 무겁고, 수컷은 서목태, 암컷은 백태에서 최소무게를 나타냈다. 결과적으로, 팥바구미는 팥 이외의 기주에서는 산란, 우화율, 성충수명, 성충무게 감소가 나타난 반면 우화시기는 증가하였다, 한편 강낭콩은 팥바구미 기주로서는 부적절한 것으로 나타났다.

        The uniform nanofibers of polyurethane with different contents of Juniperus Chinensis extracts were successfully prepared by electrospinning method. Polyurethane is widely used as functional polymers in the industrials, medical field as their properties can be tailor-made by adjusting their compositions. Juniperus Chinensis has been reported for anti-tumor, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral activities. PU/Juniperus Chinensis extracts composite nanofibers were produced at different Juniperus Chinensis extracts concentrations (0.25, 0.5, 1, 1.5wt.%). The effects of the major parameters in electrospinning process such as tip to collector distance (TCD), voltage, polymer concentration on the average diameter of electrospun nanoweb were investigated. As results, 12wt% PU solution concentration, 8kV applied voltage and 15cm tip to collector distance were identified as optimum conditions for electrospinning the composite nanofibers. The diameter and morphology of the nanocomposite nanofibers were confirmed by a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The resulting fibers exhibited a uniform diameter ranging from 435nm∼547nm. It has been found that the average diameters of fibers decreased by the adding of Juniperus Chinensis extracts. These nanowebs can be used for medical materials, protective clothing, and antimicrobial filters.

        전기방사는 높은 비표면적을 가지는 마이크로∼나노 단위 직경의 나노섬유를 생산하는 간단하고 효율적인 공정이 다. 따라서 식물 추출물과 폴리머를 혼합한 방사용액으로 손쉽게 의료용 나노섬유의 제조가 가능하다. 향나무는 라 디칼 생성, 화상, 세포손상과 같은 자외선과 SLS에 의한 피부손상을 방지하는데 효과적이라고 알려져 있다. 또한 방미효과와 함께 집먼지 진드기 방지 효과가 보고된 바 있다. 전기방사로 향나무 추출물을 함유하여 제조한 PVA 나노섬유를 연구하였다. 향나무 추출물의 서로 다른 농도(0.25, 0.5, 1.5 wt. %)를 함유하는 PVA/향나무 추출물 나노 복합섬유를 제조하였으며 방사용액의 농도, 인가전압, TCD 등의 전기방사 조건을 최적화 하였다. 연구결과 균일한 PVA/향나무 추출물 나노 복합섬유을 얻을 수 있는 최적 조건으로 PVA 농도는 12wt%, 인가전압은 10 Kv, TCD는 10∼20 cm로 나타나났다. 제조된 전기방사 나노 복합섬유의 형태 및 미세구조를 SEM을 통해 관찰하였다. 향나무 추출물의 첨가에 의해 나노섬유의 직경이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 결과적으로 310∼360 nm의 직경범위를 가지 는 PVA/향나무 추출물 복합 나노섬유가 전기방사를 통해 성공적으로 얻어졌다.

        Six wooden plant essential oils (EOs; Illicium verum, Gaultheria fragrantissima, Bursea delpechiana,Croton anisatum, Cinnamomum cassia and Aniba rosaeodora) and their major compounds (trans-anethole, methyl salicylate, trans-cinnamaldehyde, linalool and linalyl acetate) identified from gas chromatography (GC) and GC-mass spectrometry were tested for adult repellence and pheromone antagonism using Y-tube essay and oviposition deterrent effect using no choice test against adzuki bean beetle (ABB), Callosobruchus chinensis L. EOs of I. verum and C. anisatum as well as their common major compound, trans-anethole were found effective repellents having high degree of pheromone antagonistic and oviposition deterrent activity. Methyl salicylate, the major compound of G. fragrantissima EO (which was only the pheromone antagonist) showed high degree of repellency, oviposition deterrence and pheromone antagonistic effect in higher concentration. From this study, EOs of I. verum and C. anisatum and their common major compound trans-anethole as well as the major compound of G. fragrantissima, methyl salicylate can be screened as eco-friendly management agents against C. chinensis in stored legumes if slow releasing formulations are prepared by future efforts.

        본 연구의 목적은 벼메뚜기(Oxya chinensis sinuosa) 분말 섭취가 유산소성 운동훈련(트레드밀 달리기)의 병행 유무에 의해 ICR 생쥐의 에 너지 대사를 증가시키는지를 알아보고자 하는 것이다. 이 목적을 달성하기 위하여, 28 마리의 ICR 생쥐를 보통식 대조군(CON), 보통식 대조군 으로서 운동훈련 병행군(COEX), 벼메뚜기 분말이 혼합된 사료 섭취군(GH), 그리고 벼메뚜기 분말이 혼합된 사료를 섭취함과 동시에 운동훈련 을 병행군(GHEX)으로 구분하였다. 벼메뚜기 분말 사료섭취 및 운동은 6주간 진행하였다. 체중증가율은 유의하지 않았다. 지방량은 GH와 GHEX에서 유의하게 감소하였다. 혈중 glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase와 glutamic pyruvic transaminase 수준은 처치 집단간 변화가 없었다. 제2형 당수송체 및 제4형 당수송체는 처치 집단간 유의한 차이가 없었다. GHEX의 fibronectin type III domain-containing protein 5 단백질 발현량이 가장 높았다. AMP-activated protein kinase 단백질 수준은 GHEX에서 유의하게 증가하였다. Glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta 단백질 발현량은 GHEX가 CON과 비교할 때 감소하였다. 이러한 결과들은 벼메뚜기 분말을 섭취하면서 지구성 운동훈련을 하는 경우에 에너지 대사에 영향을 준다는 것을 제시하고 있다.

        This study investigated the effects of rare-earth fertilizer on the shoot cuttings’ rooting of Vitex rotundifolia L. and Tamarix chinensis Lour. The shoot cutting test was carried in 2008 and the main results are summarized as follows. The rate of rooting and the average roots increased in both number and length when rare-earth fertilizer is treated in V. rotundifolia and T. chinensis in comparison to those of the untreated control plot. In particular, when rare-earth fertilizer is diluted with water 1/2500, the rooting outstandingly increases. This result is almost similar to the effect of the rooting stimulant, IAA. Although there is no differentiation in its rooting rate according to the density, the rooting of T. chinensis shows a 100 percent effect on in the entire treated plot but not in the untreated control plot, so it is usable as a rooting stimulant. As for shoot cuttings' rooting, depending on the time immersed in diluted solution of rare-earth fertilizer, both V. rotundifolia and T. chinensis showed relatively higher percentages in all treatment plot immersed for 60 minutes than for 10 minutes. In conclusion, considering the results of the rooting percentage and the average number and length of roots of V. rotundifolia and T. chinensis, the shoot cuttings' rooting appeared higher in percentage when they were immersed in the rooting stimulant for sixty minutes with a lower density than 1/2500. This result shows that rare-earth fertilizer can be utilized as an alterative for IAA rooting stimulants currently available in the market.
