PURPOSES : The purpose of this study was to suggest a quantitative trend of the daily and seasonal cyclic movement of transverse crackwidth based on measurements in CRCP(Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement) within the first year of construction. METHODS : Crack gauges were installed in eight normal cracks, two induced cracks, and two construction joints of newly constructed CRCP. Crack width movements were continuously collected for about a year to investigate the cyclic behavior after construction. The daily and seasonal crack width movements were quantitatively analyzed and compared. RESULTS: Crack width movement in hot weather was relatively less than in cold weather. As a result of frequency analysis of the daily cyclic behavior, it was revealed by measurement that the minimum crack width from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. was caused by expansion of the concrete; and that the maximum width from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. was caused by contraction. Average crack width movements were calculated for every month and showed seasonal cyclic behavior. Maximum crack width was measured from December to January. Average crack width was investigated from March to April. Daily crack width movement in relation to concrete temperature was calculated from -0.00017 to -0.03844 mm/℃ and showed gradual decrease in absolute value with time caused by change in the crack spacing. It was found that the relationships between the monthly average crack width and concrete temperature are from -0.004 to -0.012 mm/℃. CONCLUSIONS : Crack-width movement shows a daily and seasonal cyclic behavior. Crack-width measurement in any time or season will have variance caused by daily and seasonal cyclic movement. Variances and trends were obtained in this study based on measurements for various cracks. The long-term behavior of cracks should be surveyed and compared with these measurements to investigate trends of convergence with time, caused by convergence of crack spacing.

Recently various composite beams in which concrete is filled in the U-shaped steel plate have been developed for saving story height and reducing construction period. Due to the high flexural stiffness and strength, they are widely being used for the building with large loads and long spans. The semi-slim AU composite beam has proven to take highly improved stability compared to the existing composite beams, because it consists of the closed steel section by attaching cap-type shear connectors to the upper side of U-shaped steel plate. In this study the finite element analyses were performed to evaluate the safety of the AU composite beam with unconsolidated concrete which were sustained through the closed steel section during the construction phase. The analyses were performed on the two types of cross section applied to the fabrication of AU composite beams, and the results were compared to the those of 2-point bending tests. In addition, the flexural performance according to the space of intermittent cap-type shear connectors and the location of reinforcing steel bars for compression was comparatively investigated. Through the results of analytical studies, it is preferable to adopt the yield moment of AU composite beam for evaluating the safety in the construction phase, and to limit the space of intermittent shear connectors to 400 mm or less for the construction load.

The cooperative relationship between Employer and Contractor in the construction industry is the most important factor to achieve the project success. Employer shall draw the Contractor’s cooperative behavior during executing the project. A study on the impact of the Owner’s power on the contractor’s cooperative behavior is rare in the construction industry in Korea even though the negative impact of the high-power distance between the Employer and the Contractor has been a hot issue in Korea. In this empirical study, it is shown that the Employer’s power can address the contractor’s cooperative behavior. The respondents were mostly employees in the domestic construction companies who have experienced in the construction projects. The total number of respondents was 317 effectively. The multiple regression analysis using SPSS 21.0 were conducted to verify the hypotheses. In conclusion, the Mediated Power is positively associated with the In-Role Behavior and with the Extra-Role Behavior. Some of Non-Mediated Power is positively associated with the In-Role Behavior and with the Extra-Role Behavior. It seems that the Contract underestimate the Employer’s Expert Power. It was known that the cooperative power caused by Non-Mediated Power is good for long term relationship of the business to business transaction. So it is highly recommended that the Employer shall foster its expertise.

PURPOSES: In order to evaluate a crack resistance at cold joint, sealing tape was adopted to apply at cold joint instead of typical tack coat material(RSC-4). The sealing tape was made by hot sealing material. The crack resistance as function of environmental and traffic loading was measured with visual observation. METHODS : In this study, the crack resistance was evaluated as function of environmental and traffic loading. The freeze-thaw method was adopted for environmental loading of asphalt pavement. condition. The damage of cold joint under freeze-thaw action is initiated by ice expansion load and accelerated by the interfacial damage between new and old asphalt pavement. The traffic loading was applied with wheel tracking machine on the cold joint area of the asphalt pavement for 3 hours at 25℃. The evaluation of crack resistance was measured with visual observation. The freeze-thaw results shows that the sealing tape was significantly increased the crack resistance based on. RESULTS : To estimate the crack resistance at cold joint area due to the environmental loading, the Freeze-thaw test was conducted by exposing the product to freezing temperature(approximately -18℃) for 24 hours, and then allowing it to thaw at 60℃ for 24 hours. The tack coat material(RSC-4) was debonded after 21 cycles of the Freeze-thaw test. The first crack was observed after 14 freeze-thaw cycle with RSC-4 material. But, the sealing tape was not debonded after 24 cycle test. Also, the sealing tape shows the better performance of the crack resistance under the traffic loading with wheel track test. The crack was generated the under traffic loading with RSC-4(tack coating), however, the crack was not shown with sealing tape. It indicates that the sealing tape has a strong resistance of tensile stress due to traffic loading. CONCLUSIONS: Based on limited laboratory test result, a performance of crack resistance using the sealing tape is better than that of general tack coat material(RSC-4). It means that the sealing tape is possible to extend a pavement service life because the crack, one of the main pavement distresses, will be delayed. Recently, the damage caused by typhoons and strong winds are increasing due to the world climate change. Considering the vulnerability of structure to strong wind disaster, in this study, we focused on the soundproof wall among vulnerable wind facilities. GFRP was chose as the reinforcement frame among the components of the soundproof wall. The modeling of the soundproof wall was made using the finite element commercial analysis program ABAQUS and the resistance performance was estimated through the optimal model analysis of the soundproof wall. Wind loads were calculated using Monte Carlo Simulation. Finally, wind fragility evaluation was performed to predict the degree of damage of the GFRP frame soundproof wall. It is necessary to verify the performance of the GFRP frame through comparison with the aluminum frame which is generally used in the construction of the soundproofing wall.

Steel roof construction is on the most important and critical factors in the large spatial construction and necessary to be prepared under a radical planning. Therefore, the major management factors of steel roofing structure assembly must be critically reviewed during planning. Through the review process, it is necessary to reduce the construction cost, to prevent delays in the construction schedule, and to minimize construction errors. However, domestically due to the lack experience in large spatial constructions, a planning of roof construction is limited to have a radical planning. Especially due to unclear organization of the management factors in hierarchy, using them in reality for construction planning is difficult and reliability is low. Therefore, in this study, the goal is to conduct the major management factors in the large spatial construction. To achieve this, we have reviewed and analyzed the numbers of construction plans and construction reports and conducted a total 68 of the management factors. Based on the conducted factors, we have interviewed 16 experts with experience in large spatial construction. From the interview result, we have deduced the factors scored above 4.20 of 10 for critical factors. The results of this study will be used as a guidance for planning steel roofing structure assembly in large spatial construction. The critical factors will be provided to the site mangers for the quality management of large spatial constructions in practice.

The purposes of this study are to analyze risks of construction step BIM(Building Information Modeling) applied project and improve it. Recently, construction industry has emphasized an importance of BIM for efficient utilization of various information. In the whole life cycle of huge construction project, there are cases introducing BIM and projects applying BIM are gradually increased to the work of construction step. However, the process of communication is not established, so the contents of BIM process of construction step are just showing rough fields and concepts of working utilization, so it's restrictive to utilize BIM actively on constructions step. Through results of case study in this research, constructor risks of BIM business should be efficiently treated with Fuzzy-FMEA that is more precise than existing danger evaluation.
