The push-out tests have been conducted on the specimens which consist of the steel beam with U-shape section and the continuous cap-type shear connector. Existing formulas for the elevation of shear connector capacity were investigated on the basis of test results. The shear capacities of continuous cap-type shear connectors distinctly declined as the diameters of side-hole in the shear connector increased. The rebars through side-hole for the transverse reinforcement improved the shear capacity of continuous cap-type connector by 20 to 30 percent. It was not feasible to obtain the appropriate capacity values of continuous cap-type shear connectors made of thin steel plate like those of in this study, using the existing formulas. The new formula for reflecting the shear strength of penetrative bars was proposed based on the shear equation of Eurocode 4. The slip capacities of continuous cap-type shear connectors were shown to exceed the limit value of 6mm for the sufficiently ductile behavior.

U-flanged truss beam is composed of u-shaped upper steel flange, lower steel plate of 8mm or more thickness, and connecting lattice bars welded on the upper and lower sides. The hybrid beam with U-flanged steel truss is made in the construction site through pouring the concrete, and designated as U-flanged truss hybrid beam. In this study the structural experiments on the 4 hybrid beams with the proposed basic shapes were performed, and the flexural capacities from the tests were compared with those from the theoretical approach. The failure modes of each specimen were quite similar. The peak load was reached with the ductile behavior after yielding, and the failure occurred through the concrete crushing. The considerable increasement of deformation was observed up to the concrete crushing. The composite action of concrete and steel member was considered to be reliable from the behavior of specimens. The flexural strength of hybrid beam has been evaluated exactly using the calculation method applied in the boubly reinforced concrete beam. The placement of additional rebars in the bottom instead of upper side is proposed for the efficient design of U-flanged truss hybrid beam.

U-flanged truss beam is composed of u-shaped upper steel flange, lower steel plate of 8mm or more thickness, and connecting lattice bars. Upper flange and lower plate are connected by the diagonal lattice bars welded on the upper and lower sides. In this study the structural experiments on the U-flanged truss beams with various shapes of upper flange were performed, and the flexural and shear capacities of U-flanged truss beam in the construction stage were evaluated. The principal test parameters were the shape of upper flange and the alignment space of diagonal lattice bars. In all the test specimens, the peak loads were determined by the buckling of lattice bar regardless of the upper flange shape. The test results have shown that the buckling of lattice bar is very important design factor and there is no need to reinforce the basic u-shaped upper flange. However, the early lattice buckling occurred in the truss beam with upper steel bars because of the insufficient strength and stiffness of upper chord, and the reinforcement in the upper chord is necessary. The formulae of Eurocode 3 (2005) have presented more exact evaluations of lattice buckling load than those of KBC 2016.

Recently various composite beams in which concrete is filled in the U-shaped steel plate have been developed for saving story height and reducing construction period. Due to the high flexural stiffness and strength, they are widely being used for the building with large loads and long spans. The semi-slim AU composite beam has proven to take highly improved stability compared to the existing composite beams, because it consists of the closed steel section by attaching cap-type shear connectors to the upper side of U-shaped steel plate. In this study the finite element analyses were performed to evaluate the safety of the AU composite beam with unconsolidated concrete which were sustained through the closed steel section during the construction phase. The analyses were performed on the two types of cross section applied to the fabrication of AU composite beams, and the results were compared to the those of 2-point bending tests. In addition, the flexural performance according to the space of intermittent cap-type shear connectors and the location of reinforcing steel bars for compression was comparatively investigated. Through the results of analytical studies, it is preferable to adopt the yield moment of AU composite beam for evaluating the safety in the construction phase, and to limit the space of intermittent shear connectors to 400 mm or less for the construction load.

The push-out tests have been conducted on the specimens which consist of the steel beam with U-shape section and the cap-type shear connectors with constant intervals. Existing equations for the evaluation of shear connector strength have been investigated on the basis of test results. The reinforcing bars for longitudinal reinforcement and the penetrative bars for transverse reinforcement didn’t have much effect on the shear capacity of the cap-type shear connector. The larger the width of cap-type shear connector was profiled, the greater the shear strength turned. The shear capacities of cap-type shear connectors with constant intervals were evaluated on the basis of push-out test results, and those were possible to be determined with proper safety margin using the Eurocode 4. The slip capacity of cap-type shear connector was shown to exceed the limit value of 6mm for sufficiently ductile behavior.

An innovative analysis method is proposed in this paper for the determination of ultimate resistance of prestressed concrete beams. The proposed method can be applied to simply supported or continuous beams in a unified manner whether structure and external loads are symmetric or not. Through the iterative nonlinear strain compatibility solutions, this method can also be applied to the non-prismatic section/un-symmetrical composite structures under moving load. The conventional studies have used the failure criteria when the strain of concrete reaches 0.003. However compared with bonded case, the value of strain in the reinforcement is much smaller than bonded case, thus, unbonded prestressed cases show compressive failure mode. It is shown that the proposed method gives acceptable results within 5% error compared with the prior experimental results. It can be shown that the proposed method can reach the solution much faster than typical three-dimensional finite element analysis for the same problem. This method is applicable to the existing unbonded prestressed members where deterioration has occurred leading to the reduced ultimate resistance or safety. In all, the proposed procedure can be applied to the design and analysis of newly constructed structures, as well as the risk assessment of rehabilitated structures.

The SLIM AU composite beam consists of U-shaped steel plate, A-shaped steel cap and infilled concrete. The bottom steel plate acts as tension bars, and the top steel cap takes roles of shear connector and compression bars in the conventional reinforced concrete section. In this paper the shear strength of this composite beam with closed steel section has been evaluated through the concentrated loading shear experiments. Test results under the symmetrical and asymmetrical loading conditions were compared with the predicted values based on the KBC 2016. The composite beam showed the greater shear strength capacities than those of the theoretical evaluation.

SLIM AU(A plus U-shaped) composite beam had been developed for not only reducing the story height in residential and commercial building, but also saving the cost of floor construction. The structural performance and economic feasibility was sufficiently approved by means of structural experiments and analytical studies. Even though fire resistance of the SLIM AU composite beam was evaluated throughout furnace fire test, the fire performance of the composite beam using finite element analysis is not analysed yet. Therefore the predictions of fire resistance simulations with loading as well as temperature distribution of the composite beam are summarized in this paper.

The new rotary friction damper was developed using several two-nodal rotary frictional components with different clamping forces. Because of these components, the rotary friction damper can be activated by building movements due to lateral forces such as a wind and earthquake. In this paper, various dependency tests such as displacement amplitude, forcing frequency and long term cyclic loading were carried out to evaluate on the structural performance and the multi-slip mechanism of the new damper. Test results show that the multi-slip mechanism is verified and friction coefficients are dependent on displacement amplitute and forcing frequency except long term cyclic loading.

Various hybrid dampers have been developed in Korea to control the vibration due to a wind and earthquake. In order to minimize the installment space, cost and construction process, the new hybrid friction damper is developed. This hybrid damper is composed of several rotary friction components having two frictional joint. Because of these components, the building vibration due to wind and earthquake can be mitigated by hybrid friction damper. In this paper, various dependency tests were carried out to evaluate on the structural performance of two joint rotational friction component of the hybrid damper. Test results show that two joint rotational components do not depend on a displacement and a frequency of forcing but friction coefficients is reducing as a clamping force is increasing.

As a preparation of a design standard regarding road facilities, such as cantilever columns for traffic lights, street lights on highways is proposed. Currently these minor structures are designed based on guidelines which are mixed with multiple old foreign specifications without any criteria in terms of safety and economy, which could lead irregular safeties and the loss of national properties. In the considered two cases for effective projected area, it is found that following efficient way of design without critical analyses could make significant errors and miscalculations. Therefore, a fundamental research on the minor structures is urgently needed.

To realize high-performance thin film solar cells, we prepared CIGS by the co-evaporation technique on both sodalime and Corning glass substrates. The structural and efficient properties were investigated by varying the thickness of the Mo:Na layer, where the total thickness of the back contact was fixed at 1μm. As a result, when the Mo:Na thickness was 300 nm on soda-lime glass, the measured Na content was 0.28 %, the surface morphology was a plate-like compact structure, and the crystallinity by XRD showed a strong peak of (112) preferential orientation together with relatively intense (220) and (204) peaks as the secondary phases influenced crystal formation. In addition, the substrates on soda-lime glass effected the lowest surface roughness of 2.76 nm and the highest carrier density and short circuit current. Through the optimization of the Mo:Na layer, a solar conversion efficiency of 11.34% was achieved. When using the Corning glass, a rather low conversion efficiency of 9.59% was obtained. To determine the effects of the concentration of sodium and in order to develop a highefficiency solar cells, a very small amount of sodium was added to the soda lime glass substrate.

Mo-based thin films are frequently used as back electrode materials because of their low resistivity and high crystallinity in CIGS chalcopyrite solar cells. Mo:Na/Mo bilayer thin films with 1μm thickness were deposited on soda lime glass by varying the thickness of each layer using dc-magnetron sputtering. The effects of the Mo:Na layer on morphology and electrical property in terms of resistivity were systematically investigated. The resistivity increased from 159μΩcm to 944μΩcm; this seemed to be caused by increased surface defects and low crystallinity as the thickness of Mo:Na layer increased from 100 nm to 500 nm. The surface morphologies of the Mo thin films changed from a somewhat coarse fibrous structures to irregular and fine celled structures with increased surface cracks along the cell boundaries as the thickness of Mo:Na layer increased. Na contents varied drastically from 0.03 % to 0.52 % according to the variation of Mo:Na layer thickness. The change in Na content may be ascribed to changes in surface morphology and crystallinity of the thin films.

Cu(In, Ga)Se2 (CIGS) precursor films were electrodeposited on Mo/glass substrates in acidic solutions containingCu2+, In3+, Ga3+, and Se4+ ions at −0.6V (SCE) and pH 1.8. In order to induce recrystallization, the electrodepositedCu1.00In0.81Ga0.09Se2.08 (25.0at.% Cu+20.2at.% In+2.2at.% Ga+52.0at.% Se) precursor films were annealed under a highSe gas atmosphere for 15, 30, 45, and 60 min, respectively, at 500oC. The Se amount in the film increased from 52at.% to62at.%, whereas the In amount in the film decreased from 20.8at.% to 9.1at.% as the annealing time increased from 0 (as-deposited state) to 60 min. These results were attributed to the Se introduced from the furnace atmosphere and reacted withthe In present in the precursor films, resulting in the formation of the volatile In2Se. CIGS precursor grains with a cauliflowershape grew as larger grains with the CuSe2 and/or Cu2-xSe faceted phases as the annealing times increased. These faceted phasesresulted in rough surface morphologies of the CIGS films. Furthermore, the CIGS layers were not dense because the emptyspaces between the grains were not removed via annealing. Uniform thicknesses of the MoSe2 layers occurred at the 45 and60 min annealing time. This implies that there was a stable reaction between the Mo back electrode and the Se diffused throughthe CIGS film. The results obtained in the present research were sufficiently different from comparable studies where therecrystallization annealing was performed under an atmosphere of Ar gas only or a low Se gas pressure.

Cu(In,Ga)Se2(CIGS) photovoltaic thin films were electrodeposited on Mo/glass substrates with an aqueous solution containing 2 mM CuCl2, 8 mM InCl3, 20 mM GaCl3 and 8mM H2SeO3 at the electrodeposition potential of -0.6 to -1.0 V(SCE) and pH of 1.8. The best chemical composition of Cu1.05In0.8Ga0.13Se2 was found to be achieved at -0.7 V(SCE). The precursor Cu-In-Ga-Se films were annealed for crystallization to chalcopyrite structure at temperatures of 100-500˚C under Ar gas atmosphere. The chemical compositions, microstructures, surface morphologies, and crystallographic structures of the annealed films were analyzed by EPMA, FE-SEM, AFM, and XRD, respectively. The precursor Cu-In-Ga-Se grains were grown sparsely on the Mo-back contact and also had very rough surfaces. However, after annealing treatment beginning at 200˚C, the empty spaces between grains were removed and the grains showed well developed columnar shapes with smooth surfaces. The precursor Cu-In-Ga-Se films were also annealed at the temperature of 500˚C for 60 min under Se gas atmosphere to suppress the Se volatilization. The Se amount on the CIGS film after selenization annealing increased above the Se amount of the electrodeposited state and the MoSe2 phase occurred, resulting from the diffusion of Se through the CIGS film and interaction with Mo back electrode. However, the selenization-annealed films showed higher crystallinity values than did the films annealed under Ar atmosphere with a chemical composition closer to that of the electrodeposited state.

Mo thin films were used for the back electrode because of the low resistivity in the Mo/CuInGaSe2 contact inchalcopyrite solar cells. 1µm thick Mo thin films were deposited on soda lime glass by varying the Ar pressure with the dc-magnetron sputtering process. The effects of the Ar pressure on the morphology of the Mo back electrode were studied andthe relationships between the morphology and electro-optical properties, namely, the resistivity as well as the reflectance of theMo thin films, were investigated. The resitivity increased from 24µΩ·cm to 11833µΩ·cm; this was caused by the increasedsurface defect and low crystallinity as the Ar pressure increased from 3×10−3 to 3×10−2Torr. The surface morphologies ofthe Mo thin films changed from somewhat coarse fibrous structures to irregular and fine celled strucutures with increased surfacecracks along the cell boundaries, as the Ar pressure increased from 3×10−3 to 3×10−2Torr. The changes of reflectances in thevisible light range with Ar pressures were mainly attributed to the surface morphological changes of the Mo thin films. Thereflectance in the visible light range showed the highest value of 45% at 3×10−3Torr and decreased to 18.5% at 3×10−2Torr.

CuInSe2 (CIS) thin films were electrodeposited on Mo-coated glass substrates in acidic solutionscontaining Cu2+, In3+, and Se4+ ions, depending on deposition parameters such as deposition potential (-0.4 to-0.8V[SCE]) and pH (1.7 to 1.9). The influences of PH and deposition potential on the atomic composition ofCu, In, and Se in the deposited films were observed. The best chemical composition, approaching 1:1:2 atomicratio for the elements, was achieved at -0.5V (SCE) and pH 1.8. The as-deposited films showed low crystallinityand were annealed at 300 to 500oC for 30 min to improve crystallization. The surface morphologies, microstructures, and crystallographic structures of the annealed films as well as the as-deposited films wereanalyzed with AFM, SEM, and XRD. The defects of spherical particles appeared on the surfaces of CIS thinfilms in the as-deposited state and decreased in size and number with increasing annealing temperatures.Additionally, the crystallization to chalcopyrite structure and surface roughness (Ra) of the as-deposited thinfilms were improved with the annealing process.

In the microelectronics packaging industry, the adhesion strength between Cu and polyimide and the thermal stability are very important factors, as they influence the performance and reliability of the device. The three different buffer layers of Cr, 50%Cr-50%Ni, and Ni were adopted in a Cu/buffer layer/polyimide system and compared in terms of their adhesion strength and thermal stability at a temperature of 300˚C for 24hrs. A 90-degree peel test and XPS analysis revealed that both the peel strength and thermal stability decreased in the order of the Cr, 50%Cr-50%Ni and Ni buffer layer. The XPS analysis revealed that Cu can diffuse through the thin Ni buffer layer (200Å), resulting in a decrease in the adhesion strength when the Cu/buffer layer/polyimide multilayer is heat-treated at a temperature of 300˚C for 24hrs. In contrast, Cu did not diffuse through the Cr buffer layer under the same heat-treatment conditions.
