        PURPOSES : In this study, drone highway route alternatives were evaluated using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) technique to investigate any difficulties or improvements while designing drone highway routes. METHODS : Based on the literature review and AHP analysis, 39 road and airport experts were surveyed to evaluate two alternate drone highway routes that connect the Seoul train station and Jamsil park near Gangnam business district. RESULTS : The AHP analysis results revealed that the environmental aspect was the most critical factor in designing a drone highway route, followed by social and technological factors. Among the investigated factors, noise and life-environment showed the highest geometric mean value of 0.21. This mean should be considered when developing plans and policies for drone highway design. CONCLUSIONS : Environmental and social agreement is more crucial than the technological and economic aspects when designing drone highway routes. Laws and policies should be updated and followed to support the drone highway system, which is vital in logistics.

        PURPOSES : The retroreflectivity of pavement markings for road safety was evaluated. METHODS : Field tests of pavement markings, which are characters, symbols, crosswalks, and stop lines, but do not include line markings, were conducted using a portable retroreflectometer with the purpose of evaluating the retroreflectivity according to the type of pavement markings and roads. Furthermore, changes in retroreflectivity due to wheel passing and wet conditions were evaluated. Here, 192 test points for evaluating the retroreflectivity of pavement markings, 5 test points for evaluating reductions in retroreflectivity during conditions of wetness, and 28 test points for checking variability due to type of testing device were selected on major and minor arterial roads in Seoul. RESULTS : The average retroreflectivity of pavement markings measured in this study was 115.7 (mcd/m2·lux), which is lower than the minimum retroreflectivity required six months after installation but higher than the minimum remarking retroreflectivity required by Seoul city. The retroreflectivity of pavement markings measured on minor arterial roads was 69.1% of that on major arterial roads. The average retroreflectivity of pavement markings was reduced to 43.1% by wheel passing, which is below the remarking criterion. The average retroreflectivity measured on wet pavement markings was 43.7 (mcd/m2·lux), which is a ninth of that under dry conditions. The test results showed that retroreflectivity in the rain was much lower than the required value in the case of rain, which is 175 mcd/m2·lux, as issued by Seoul city. Compared with mobile retroreflectometers, a portable retroreflectometer produced 17% higher retroreflectivity based on the results of 28 test points. CONCLUSIONS : Based on the field tests, the retroreflectivity of pavement markings, i.e., characters, symbols, crosswalks, and stop lines, was higher than the average remarking criterion. However, the retroreflectivities of pavement markings passed by the wheel or in rain were lower than the remarking criteria. Considering that the remarking criteria in Seoul city are higher than those in Europe and the test results in this study indicate much lower values than those required in Seoul, further study is necessary to be able to properly modify the criteria for retroreflectivity.

There are many excellent ports around the Tumen River Region. With the obvious location advantages, Tumen River Region is an important part of Tumen River regional cooperation and development, and is the key to realizing the “borrow port to sea”, which is raised in “China Tumen River regional cooperation and development planning outline -- regard Changjitu area as the development and opening leading area” (referred to as “planning outline”). This paper focus on the main ports in the Tumen River region, taking them as the research object. Furthermore, the paper makes the strategic plan for the port cluster in the Tumen River region as well as puts a collaboration scheme is proposed by analyzing the research reviews of the Tumen River region and the present situations of the main ports.

        The effects of forest type and fragmentation of forests by a road on the beetle community were investigated in the Gwangneung Forest, South Korea. Beetles were collected monthly using pitfall traps and by sweeping at 16 sites (eight in coniferous forests and eight in deciduous forests) for one year from April 1993 to April 1994, excluding winter. A total of 17,616 beetles belonging to 271 species from 39 families were collected. Among them, Synuchus cycloderus was the dominant species, with 14,060 individuals accounting for 80% of the total population. The influence of forest type (coniferous and deciduous) or sampling region (fragmented by a road) on species richness (number of species) was observed. We found that species richness was substantially different depending on the sampling method and taxa used. Beetles collected using pitfall traps responded more sensitively to habitat types than those collected by sweeping. Four dominant families differently responded to forest fragmentation and forest types. Carabidae was influenced by forest fragmentation, whereas Staphylinidae and Curculionidae were influenced by forest types. Chrysomelidae was not influenced.

        이 논문은 중국의 일대일로 (Belt and Road Initiative)가 아세안 국가들에게 확산되어 중국이 이 지역에서 지배적인 세력이 될 것인가 하는 질문을 던진다. 이 문제를 탐구하기 위해 아세안 국가 지도자들의 대중국 접근과 정치적 동학, 그리고 중국의 정치군사적 세력 확대에 대한 견제라는 두 변수를 중심으로 분석할 것을 제안한다. 이 두 변수를 중심으로 분석할 때 아세안 국가의 일대일로는 중국 일방적으로 추진되는 것으로 단순화 시킬 수 없다는 것을 알 수 있다. 첫째, 아세안 개별국가 정치지도자들이 자국 경제발전의 필요와 정치적 동학에 따라 일대일로의 구체적 사업들을 받아들이고 조정하는 경우가 빈번하다. 둘째, 아세안 국가들은 중국과 경제교류를 지속하지만 동시에 정치적, 군사적으로 중국의 영향력 하에 지배되는 것을 거부하고 견제한다. 이와 같이 경제적 실리를 추구 하면서 동시에 중국의 세력 확대를 견제하는 전략을 헤징 (hedging)전략으로 설명한다. 실제 일대일로 케이스로 친중적인 미얀마와 말레이시아를 들어 이 나라 들에서 정치적 변화에 따라 일대일로 사업이 취소되고 재조정된 경우들을 살펴 본다. 이 두 나라를 비롯하여 아세안 국가들은 대부분 경제발전의 필요상 경제적으로 중국과 협력을 유지하지만 중국의 정치군사적 세력 확대로 자국이 위협 받는 것을 견제한다. 이것은 국가에 따라 차이는 있지만 헤징전략으로 설명할 수 있다. 즉, 헤징의 개념으로 설명하면, ‘경제적 실용주의’로 경제협력을 추진하며, 다른 한편 정치군사적으로는 중국을 견제하여 다른 인도-태평양 국가들과 협력하는 ‘간접적 밸런싱’의 전략을 취한다는 것이다. 아세안은 중국의 지배적 영향 하에 들어가기를 원치 않으며 ‘아세안 중심성’을 유지하려 할 것이다.

        PURPOSES : This study reveals the social cost of illegal parking. Roadside illegal parking causes additional traffic congestion, air pollution, and traffic accidents. Several cities try to reduce illegal parking for the same reasons and build public parking spaces. However, few studies have been conducted on the effects and social cost of illegal parking problems. METHODS : In this study, a real-world study site was selected for the calibration of the VISSIM micro-simulator parameters, and several scenarios were created for developing illegal parking effect models. According to the simulation results, this study demonstrated five regression models that illustrated the average travel speed drop effects and the differences in emissions. RESULTS : Depending on the scenarios, the travel speed was dropped by 20 km/h–57 km/h and the levels of carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide were increased by 111 g–279 g and 22.5 g–56.3 g, respectively. CONCLUSIONS : In this study, a methodology for estimating the social cost of illegal parking was established. Therefore, it is expected to contribute to the evaluation of policies related to illegal parking or the feasibility of facility investment.

        PURPOSES : In this study, the social cost of on-street parking spaces was estimated by dividing it into private and external costs. METHODS : We established a methodology and conducted a case analysis of Seoul. Private costs were estimated from the guidelines and historical data collected. The opportunity cost of the land was estimated using spatial information. External costs built a macroscopic model (using TransCAD) and estimated travel time, operation, accident, and environmental costs. RESULTS : The social cost per space was estimated at 77 million won. Private costs were analyzed as 133.3 billion won, the opportunity cost of the land was 68,555 billion won, and external costs were 118,25 billion won in 2020. CONCLUSIONS : In this study, a methodology for estimating the social cost of a road parking facility was established and applied to the case of Seoul. Therefore, it is expected to contribute to the objective reviewing of the feasibility of policy evaluation or facility investment related to parking facilities.

        PURPOSES : In this study, the luminance of night road markings was measured in a tunnel of length 200 m or less. The purpose of the project is to evaluate the consistency of night road markings. METHODS : In this study, field measurements were conducted to achieve the purpose of this study. Five tunnels with lengths of less than 200 m were selected to measure the luminance value of the road markings. The analysis of the difference in road markings between the inside and outside points of the tunnel and the analysis of alternative tunnels and points were used to assess the consistency of road markings in tunnels. RESULTS : The average luminance of the tunnel’s night road markings was 9.7, and the standard deviation was 3.0. The analysis of variance for the tunnel and point indicated that the p-value was less than 0.05 and was inconsistent. CONCLUSIONS : In conclusion, consistency was assessed by measuring the luminance value of the short tunnel of length 200 m in the Cheongju Sangju Expressway, and it was confirmed that the luminance of the road markings was not consistent with the tunnel and point. Finally, it is necessary to control night lightings on roads outside the tunnel or adjust lighting facilities in the tunnel to enhance the consistency of luminance.

        PURPOSES : Nitrogen oxides (NOx) are the main precursors to generate fine particulate matter, which significantly contribute to air pollution. NOx gases are transmitted into the atmosphere in large quantities, especially in areas with a high volume of traffic. Titanium dioxide (TiO2), which is a photocatalytic reaction material, is very efficient for removing NOx. The application of TiO2 to concrete road structures is a good alternative to remove NOx. Generally, TiO2 concrete is produced by mixing concrete with TiO2 . However, a significant amount of TiO2 in concrete cannot be exposed to air pollutants or UV. Therefore, an alternative method of penetrating TiO2 into horizontal concrete structures using a surface penetration agent was proposed in a previous study. This method may not only be economical but also applicable to various types of horizontal concrete structures. However, the TiO2 penetration method may not be applied to vertical structures because it has a mechanism for the penetration of TiO2-containing penetration agents via gravity and capillary forces. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the applicability of the pressurized TiO2 fixation method for existing vertical road structures. METHODS : For the application of vertical concrete structures — such as retaining walls, side ditches, and barriers — the applicability of a static and dynamic pressurized TiO2 fixation method was evaluated according to the experimental conditions, considering the amount of pressure and time. The penetration depth and distribution of TiO2 particles in the concrete specimen were measured using SEM/EDAX. In addition, the NOx removal efficiencies of TiO2 concrete were evaluated using the NOx analysis system. RESULTS : As a result of measuring the penetration depth and distribution of TiO2 in the concrete, it was found that the surface-predicted mass ratio increased with increasing pressure and time. In the case of the static pressurized fixation method, it was confirmed that a pressure time of at least 10 s at a pressure of 0.2 MPa and 5 s at a pressure higher than 0.3 MPa were required to achieve a NOx removal efficiency higher than 40 %. Conversely, for the dynamic pressurized fixation method applying a hitting energy of 16.95 J, NOx removal efficiencies higher than 50 % were secured in a pressure time of more than 3 s. CONCLUSIONS : The results of this study showed that the static and dynamic pressurized TiO2 fixation method was advantageous in penetrating and distributing TiO2 particles into the concrete surface to effectively remove NOx. It was confirmed that the proposed method to remove NOx was sufficiently applicable to existing vertical concrete road structures.

        PURPOSES : Since the 1990s, underground utility projects have been conducted to solve the problem of aerial communication cables. The purpose of this study is to derive optimal measures for preventing collisions with existing underground utilities and for future maintenance in the implementation of the utilities undergrounding projects. This study considered the identifier sensor and tested the optimal sensor performance for more accurate and systematic management. METHODS : In this study, three representative technologies were selected from identifier sensors generally used in air and the possibility for their use in soil and asphalt was confirmed by simulating the environment via a test construction. Three identifier sensors were selected: BLE (Bluetooth low energy) beacon, ultra-high frequency radio frequency identification (UHF RFID), and a geomagnetic recognizer. The long-term recognition performance of each identifier sensor was tested using the underground depth as a variable and the results were analyzed for comparison. RESULTS : The results of the test under limited conditions and environment demonstrated that the BLE Beacon had advantages in equipment composition, recognition range, and speed but exhibited problems with batteries in winter. The geomagnetic recognizer did not show the exact location and its influence on the surrounding environment was a disadvantage. CONCLUSIONS : Although the performance of UHF RFID has been demonstrated to be relatively suitable under these test conditions, it seems that the impact of the more diverse installation depth or medium should be reviewed for actual commercialization.

        한반도의 인삼은 중국의 비단과 차, 일본의 은과 함께 동아시아 상품교역네트워크를 구성하는 중요한 상품이었고, 지금도 그 상품가치를 높여가고 있다. 인삼이 해외 수출상품으로 확립된 것은 개성상인들의 노력에 힘입은바가 크고, 일제강점기에 활동한 개성상인 孫鳳祥과 孔聖學은 紅蔘과 白蔘 등 인삼제품을 해외시장에 수출한 주역이었다. 전통학문에 대한 깊은 소양을 갖춘 儒商 손봉상과 공성학은 중국, 대만과 홍콩 등지의 홍삼판매처를 시찰한 자신들의 활동을 『中遊日記』와 『香臺紀覽』에 남겼다. 그러나 개성상인들이 남긴 우리나라 최초의 해외시장 시찰기라 할 두 책을 텍스트로 한 홍삼판로 시찰에 대한 연구가 전무한 상황이라 이에 대한 연구가 시급하다. 본고는 일제강점기, 개성상인들의 중국 및 세계 인삼시장에 대한 인식과 함께 고려 인삼의 해외시장 개척에 대한 그들의 의지와 노력을 확인하고자 하였다.

        PURPOSES : This study aimed to examine the relationship between discomfort glare and different types of lighting, including low-mounted lighting and conventional pole lighting. Although roadway lighting has been widely acknowledged as a countermeasure for nighttime traffic safety, discomfort glare, which is incidentally derived from lighting, is one of the key elements to overcome. METHODS : We selected the Unified Glare Rating (UGR), defined as a globally accepted lighting standard, as a measure of the effect of discomfort glare. Artificial rain and fog conditions were reproduced at the Center of Road Weather Proving Ground (CRPG). RESULTS : As a result, we found that the UGR of low-mounted lighting is reduced by 57.96% compared to pole lighting under rainy conditions, and by 39.12% in the case of fog conditions. CONCLUSIONS : It is proposed that discomfort glare was significantly reduced in the case of low-mounted lighting compared to pole lighting under both rain and fog conditions. Discomfort glare hinders the visual performance of drivers, so it may be related to delayed reaction time and inappropriate driving behavior. Therefore, low-mounted lighting is strongly recommended on road sections that have a high frequency of traffic accidents and adverse weather patterns.

        Currently, radioactive waste for disposal has been restricted to low and intermediate level radioactive waste generated during operation of nuclear power plants, and these radioactive wastes were managed and disposed of the 200 L and 320 L of steel drums. However, it is expected that it will be difficult to manage a large amount of decommissioning waste of the Kori unit 1 with the existing drums and transportation containers. Accordingly, the KORAD is currently developing various and largesized containers for packaging, transportation, and disposal of decommissioning waste. In this study, the radiation exposure doses of workers and the public were evaluated using RADTRAN computational analysis code in case of the domestic onroad transportation of new package and transportation containers under development. The results were compared with the domestic annual dose limit. In addition, the sensitivity of the expected exposure dose according to the change in the leakage rate of radionuclides in the waste packaging was evaluated. As a result of the evaluation, it was confirmed that the exposure dose under normal and accident condition was less than the domestic annual exposure dose limit. However, in the case of a number of loading and unloading operations, working systems should be prepared to reduce the exposure of workers.

        본 연구는 실크로드의 역사를 다시 조명하여 실크로드의 주역이었던 고조선의 아름다운 실크의 감성을 찾아보고 잘 알려지지 않은 우리의 역사를 알아보고자 한다. 연구 방법은 고서, 서적, 논문, 유적지 발굴 유물들을 분석하는 다양한 접근을 시도하였으며, 유물에 대한 자료는 다양한 서적과 논문 그리고 인터넷을 통해 관련 유물사진들을 수집한 2차적 자료를 분석하였다. 연구문제는 다음과 같다. 첫 번째, 고대 실크로드와 고대 동양에서 발견된 고조선의 경금의 실크 생산 환경을 조사한다. 두 번째, 고조선의 경금의 고도의 제작기술에 대해 조사한다. 본 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. BC 4500년 홍산문화의 동이족으로부터 발견된 옥으로 만든 누에를 통해 고조선의 실크 생산 시기를 추론할 수 있다. 신장자치구 누란, 아스타나, 니야 등에서 경금이 많이 출토되었으며 가장 오래된 경금은 기원전 11세기경으로 서 발해만 고조선의 수도 중 하나였던 조양에서 발굴된 것이다. 서양의 브로케이드 및 다마스크의 기원으로 보이는 경금은 고조선의 수평 사각직기인 제화루기로 고도의 제직기술의 발전된 직기를 통해서 생산되었다. 이와 같은 결과를 통해 고대 실크로드의 특징은 기원전 5-6세기경 발해만 유역의 고조선에서 생산한 경금 견직물이라고 추측할 수 있었다. 한나라의 사직기나 서아시아의 수직직기로 경금 제직이 불가능하며 고조선의 제화루직기과 함께 고도의 제직기술 을 통해서만 경금이 탄생될 수 있었다. 이와 같은 연구결과를 토대로 고대의 실크에 관한 역사 연구를 이어나가기 위해 중요한 초석이 될 것이며, 앞으로 고대 실크에 관한 후속 연구에 필요한 기초 자료로 제공되기 바란다.

        사람들에게 가장 일상적인 시각 대상이었던 대지와 하늘, 바닷가와 강가의 산과 모래밭, 그리고 숲속의 오솔길, 그 길가에 여기저기 서 있는 크고 작은 나무들, 개울에 흐르는 잔잔한 물소리, 가끔은 크고 작은 자갈에 부딪히는 소리들은 우리에게 맑은 숨을 쉬게 하고 작은 힘을 솟게 해주었다. 겨울 산과 여름 산의 정서가 다름은 우리가 자주 느끼는 일이다. 바다에 있는 산은 작게 보이고 강가에 있는 산은 크게 보인다. 사람이 서서 볼 수 있는 거리 때문이겠지만 우리에게 주는 정서 역시 제각기 다르 다. 특히 여름철 해질 무렵 연한 보랏빛 석양에서부터 검 짙은 갈색으로 변할 때까지 지켜본다는 것도 자연의 일부분을 충분히 경험하는 방법이라고 생각했다. 그러나 지금은 아파트로 둘러 싸여 있어 그런 기억들이 2차원의 공간에서만 볼 수 있는 먼 추억이 되어버렸다. 2차원 공간? 우리는 3차원에서 생활하고 있기 때문에 2차원 공간이 생소하다. 그러나 실제로 우리는 생활 속에서 2차원 공간을 많이 사용하고 있다. 책, 사진, 문서, 벽면 등등. 그러나 지금 내가 하고 싶은 말은 그런 것도 중요하지만 3차원의 세계에서 살고 있는 우리가 생홣 밖의 일도 저지를 수 있다는 것이다. 상상, 공상, 환상, 망상, 그리고 창의적 발상의 요람이 될 수 있다는 것이다. 그것을 표현하는 방법은 각자 다를 수 있다. 이를테면 글자로 쓰는 것, 선으로 그리는 것, 색으로 칠하는 것 등등. 최초의 원시인도 기계문명시대에 사는 현대인도 하기 힘든, ‘인류의 유산’으로 남겨놓은 것들을 우리는 알고 있고 볼 수도 있다. 암각화, 벽화, 골각화 등등. 캄캄한 동굴 안에, 거대한 암석에 그러한 그림들을 그린 이유가 무엇이었을까, 무슨 도구를 사용했으며 누구를 향한 절규였을까. 필경 목숨을 걸고 그런 일을 했다면, 생각할수록 더 궁금해지지 않을 수 없다. 그런데 필자가 이런 이야기를 하는 것을 나이가 많아서 할 일이 없기 때문이라고 생각해도 괜찮다. 왜냐 하면 우리나라 사람 대부분은 이러한 역사적이거나 철학적인 얘기를 꺼내면 밥 맛 없는 소리 한다고 치부 하는 경우가 많기 때문이다. 자기 자신을 잘 모르고, 우리 역사를 잘 모르고, 인류의 역사를 잘 몰라도 우리는 잘 먹고 잘 살고 있기 때문인 것 같다. 철학에 물리적 실체가 있다면 아마 예술이라는 걸로 표현될 것이다. 어떤 모습, 무슨 색깔, 무슨 구상이 든 그것을 표현하는 것은 오롯이 작가 자신일 것이다. 관람객이 작품을 그저 쓱 쳐다본다면 그 작품은 같은 위치와 같은 장면만 보여준다. 관람객의 사회적 위치나 시선과는 상관없이 민 낮의 정서로 그 사람 과 마주친다. 그러면 관람객은 그림 속의 사심을 자기의 마음으로 하나씩 벗겨낸 다음 맨 마지막으로 보 통 이렇게 이야기 한다. “이게 뭐야? 나도 할 수 있겠다!” 그러고는 종종걸음으로 작품 앞을 떠난다. 동일한 시간에 올실 안의 풍경과 문 밖 강가의 풍경이 다를지라도 생명의 리듬은 같다는 것을 우리는 알고 있다. 물풀에 잠시 앉아 있는 까만 잠자리나 빨간 고추잠자리가 하는 일은 같을지도 모른다. 그래서 지구상에 모든 생명은 ‘질서’라는 카테고리 안에서 잘 살고 있는지도 모른다.

        Bilateral profound friendship between China and Pakistan and the "all-weather strategic partnership" have given great support to mutual cooperation. China and Pakistan are moving forward to the goal of "economic corridor construction as the center, Gwadar port, transport infrastructure, energy and industrial cooperation as the points to form the ‘1+4’ economic cooperation and common development". However, the relationship between the two countries is also facing some challenges in the process of sustainable development, among which the populist in Pakistan is gradually emerging. If left unchecked, it may lead to a great threat to CPEC and other cooperation. Therefore, strengthening basic research on populism in Pakistan is of great significance for enhancing the all-weather strategic cooperative partnership and ensuring the smooth implementation of the CPEC. After reviewing the current research status and deficiencies of populism theory, this paper analyzes populism from the dimensions of social classes, religions and regions, so as to deeply understand the breeding source of populism. From the perspective of class, populism in Pakistan has distinct characteristics of class antagonism. From a religious perspective, there is a deeply rooted political psychology among the Pakistani people. From a regional perspective, the traditional social structure of Islam in Pakistan determines that the loyalty of individuals to religion, family and a smaller region is greater than the loyalty to the nation state.

        PURPOSES : In this study, the wetting band depths of road slopes estimated using numerical analyses and one-dimensional empirical equations were evaluated. METHODS : The one-dimensional empirical equations used in this study to estimate the wetting band depth were the Pradel and Raad equation, based on modifying the Green and Ampt equation, Lumb's equation, and Sun equation. The numerical analysis of a finite load slope model was carried out using the Seep/w program (2D). In particular, the effect of the initial suction, which indicated the effect of the antecedent rainfall based on the soil–water characteristic curve, was examined as one condition. The results of the wetting band depths obtained using the empirical equations were evaluated and compared with those of the numerical analysis. RESULTS : The wetting band depths obtained using one-dimensional empirical equations were greater than those from the analytical results. In the case of empirical equations, the estimated results obtained for the wetting band depth might be misleading because it has the limitation of being expressed using a one-dimensional equation with an error, owing to several assumptions for the water infiltration phenomenon. It was also found that the accuracy of the wetting band depth was closely related to the results of the soil–water characteristic curve. CONCLUSIONS : Because the wetting band depths obtained using the empirical equation may lead to overestimation, the slope stability could be evaluated as low; however, there was an advantage in terms of inducing conservative design of the road slope. In addition, it was confirmed that the estimated value of the wetting band depth obtained using the Pradel and Raad equation varied with the suction and volumetric function ratios, and further attention should be paid to these two variables.
