It is good to use DEA method as it can measure the efficiency without depending on a specific function like cost function. The method also finds out the most efficient group among the sample groups and gives us a specific number. For example, it shows what kind of factor of inefficient group gives how much input and produces how much output. Originally DEA, which was developed by Charnes, Cooper and Rhodes, allows us not only to measure the relative efficiency of Decision Making Units(DMUs) of non-profit organizations whose success cannot be measured by a single bottom-line figure such as profit but also to integrate several variables, which have different measuring scale, into a single model. Therefore we can use physical scales and financial scales simultaneously in the same model without any transformation process. The purpose of this paper is to present a methodology that can be used by corporations to ensure a product's reliability, safety, and maintainability, with minimal costs, by measuring dependability levels and conducting DEA analysis. The methodology will be a way for corporations to adopt an optimal dependability management system based on a quality management system of ISO 9001:2000 standards.

Estimating fishing capacity is one of current hot issues in the international fisheries. It is because that increased fishing capacity has caused not only fish stocks to be reduced, but also additional fishing costs to be incurred without additional incomes, which resulted in decrease of economically viability of fisheries. In order to solve this problem, FAO adopted 'the International Plan of Action for the Management of Fishing Capacity' in 1999 and recommended that member countries to measure fishing capacity and to implement the domestic action plan to reduce excess fishing capacity. This study is aimed at assessing fishing capacity of the octopus coastal trap fishery(OCTF) using data envelopment analysis(DEA) which is a method recommended by FAO. The DEA results on 10 individual OCTF vessels showed that the capacity utilization(CU) was a 0.93 on average, indicating some differences in CU among vessels(0.79-1.0). In addition, results of the sensitivity analysis revealed that under the current level of catch, the gross tonnage, horse power, days fished, and traps per trip could be reduced by 35%, 33%, 16%, and 18% on average, respectively.

All of the city gas companies in Korea must employ the gas safety patrols by law. The gas safety patrols are responsible for the various tasks including daily gas pipeline patrol to prevent gas accidents. Since the size of jurisdiction varies among the city gas companies, it is very difficult to compare their efficiency for the operations of the safety patrol each other directly. The objective of this research is to develop the methodology to analyze and compare the efficiency of the safety patrol's operations among various city gas companies. Several factors that are related to the safety patrol's duty on the gas safety factors were identified and DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis) model for efficiency analysis was developed. Finally, the DEA model was applied to the collected data from six city gas companies. The less efficient city gas companies can benchmark the higher efficient city gas companies in order to improve the safety control systems.

본 연구는 우리나라 RCC/RSC의 효율성을 2개의 입력변수와 5개의 출력변수로 한 토대로 퍼지 DEA를 이용하여 측정 평가하였다. 특히, 본 연구에서는 해양사고 발생자료 뿐만 아니라 환경스트레스치에 의한 잠재적 해양사고 발생가능 자료도 고려하여 운영효율성을 분석하였다. 한편, 현실자료에는 수많은 애매성이 존재하기 때문에 본 연구에서는 DEA법에 퍼지이론을 이용한 퍼지 DEA법을 이용하였다. 이 퍼지DEA법은 α-cut을 기반으로 한 크리습 선형계획문제로 변환된 것으로 입/출력 변수를 삼각형 퍼지수로 하여 해를 산출하는 방법을 제안하였고, 제안된 퍼지 DEA를 이용하여 퍼지 RCC/RSC의 순위를 결정하였다. α-cut을 0.5로 하여 효율성을 산출한 결과 YS, BS, MP, TY, JJ, PH, US, IC, SC, DH, GS, TA, WD RCC/RSC 순으로 효율성이 높게 나타났다. 따라서 효율성이 비교적 낮게 평가된 TA, WD RCC/RSC는 효율성이 높은 준거집단을 참조하여 벤치마킹을 해야 할 필요가 있다.

본 연구에서는 국내 해운회사의 안전관리를 위한 여러 가지 투입요소와 산출요소들에 대한 자료를 설문조사하고, 각 해운회사간의 안전관리체제 이행에 따른 효율성을 DEA 분석법을 사용하여 분석하였다. 1998년~2004년까지 각 해운회사의 안전관리체체의 운영효율성을 DEA 모형으로 분석한 결과, 효율성 평균지수가 매년 감소하는 추세를 나타내었다. 효율성 평균지수가 매년 낮아지는 경향을 보이는 이유는 해양사고 건수, PSC지적 건수, 선박보험료, P&I 보험료는 매 년 감소하는 것에 비해 선박수리비, 선용품비와 선박 불가동일수는 매년 감소하지 않고 오히려 증가하는 경향을 보이고 있는 것이 주요한 원인으로 분석되었다.

Nickel powders were synthesized by the hydrazine reduction of nickel chloride solution containing ammonia in DEA solutions. The size distribution of nickel powders were investigated as a function of ammonia concentration, hydrazine concentration and the mixed composition ratio of diethanolammine (DEA) and triethanolammine (TEA). Nickel powders with the size in submicron range were obtained at for 45 minutes by hydrazine reduction of nickel chloride solution in DEA solutions. The hydrazine concentrations showed significant effects on the particle size and shape distribution of nickel powders under molar ratio of 2.0 condition. As the mixed volume ratio of TEA and DEA increased, nickel powders with relatively larger particle size and low agglomeration were obtained. Nickel powders with particle size in the ranged from 0.4 to were obtained at the 50 of TEA.

This study proposes a new approach which combines Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) techniques to effectively evaluate Decision Making Units (DMUs). While DEA evaluates a quantitative data set, employs linear programming to obtain input and output weights and ranks the performance of DMUs, AHP evaluates the qualitative data retrieved from expert opinions and other managerial information in specifying weights. The objective of this research is to design a decision support process for managers to incorporate positive aspects of DEA's absolute numerical evaluations and AHP's human preference structure values. It is believed that a pragmatic manager will be more receptive to the results that include subjective opinions incorporated into the evaluation of the efficiency of each DMU efficiency when the AHP and DEA are combined simultaneously. The WPDEA method provides better discrimination than the DEA method by reducing the number of efficient units.
