        The effect of Li2O addition on precipitation behavior of uranium in LiCl-KCl-UCl3 has been investigated in this study. 99.99% LiCl-KCl eutectic salt is mixed with 10wt% UCl3 chips at 550°C in the Pyrex tube in argon atmosphere glove box, with 10 ppm O2 and 1 ppm H2O. Then, Li2O chunks are added in mixed LiCl-KCl-UCl3 and the system has been cooled down to room temperature for 10 hours to form enough UO2 particles in the salt. The solid salt has been taken out from the glove box, and cut into three sections (top, middle and bottom) by low-speed saw for further microscopic analysis. Three pieces of solid salt are dissolved in deionized water at room temperature and the solution is filtered by a filter paper to collect non-dissolved particles. The filter paper with particles is baked in vacuum oven at 120°C for 6 hours to evaporate remaining moisture from the filter paper. Further analysis was performed for the powder remaining on the filter paper, and periphery of the powder (cake) on the filter paper. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron diffraction spectroscopy (EDS), and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) are adopted to analysis the characteristic of the particles. From SEM analysis, the powders are consisted of small particles which have 5 to 10 m diameter, and EDS analysis shows they are likely UO2 with 23 at. % of uranium and 77 at. % oxygen. Cake is also analyzed by SEM and EDS, and needle like structures are widely observed on the particle. The length of needle is distributed from 5 to 20 m, and it has 6 to 10 at. % of chlorine, which are not fully dissolved into deionized water at room temperature. From XRD analysis, the particles show the peak position of UO2, and the result is well matched with the SEM-EDS results. We are planning to add more Li2O in the system for fully reacting uranium in UCl3, and compare the results to find the effect of Li2O concentration on UO2 precipitation.

        This study was carried out to investigate the effect of W substitution on the precipitation behavior of χ and σ phases in super duplex stainless steel. The χ phase was precipitated at the interface of ferrite / austenite phases and inside the ferrite phase at the initial stage of aging. With an increase in the aging time, the volume fraction of the χ phase increased, and then decreased with the transformation from the χ phase to the σ phase. The σ phase was precipitated later than the χ phase, and the volume fraction of x phase increased with the increase in the aging time. The ferrite phase was decomposed into the new austenite (γ2) and σ phases by aging treatment. The decomposition of the ferrite phase into the γ2 and σ phases was retarded by W substitution for Mo. The volume fraction of the χ phase increased and that of the σ phase decreased due to W substitution. The χ and σ phases were intermetallic compounds, which had lower nickel concentration, and higher chromium, molybdenum, and tungsten concentrations. The χ phase has higher molybdenum and tungsten concentrations than those of the σ phase. The amounts of chromium and nickel in the χ and σ phases did not change, but these phases have higher concentrations of molybdenum and tungsten due to W substitution for Mo.

        A precipitation behavior of nano-oxide particle in Fe-5Y2O3 alloy powders is studied. The mechanically alloyed Fe-5Y2O3 powders are pressed at 750oC for 1h, 850oC for 1h and 1150oC for 1h, respectively. The results of Xray diffraction pattern analysis indicate that the Y2O3 diffraction peak disappear after mechanically alloying process, but Y2O3 and YFe2O4 complex oxide precipitates peak are observed in the powders pressed at 1150oC. The differential scanning calorimetry study results reveal that the formation of precipitates occur at around 1054oC. Based on the transmission electron microscopy analysis result, the oxide particles with a composition of Y-Fe-O are found in the Fe-5Y2O3 alloy powders pressed at 1150oC. It is thus conclude that the mechanically alloyed Fe-5Y2O3 powders have no precipitates and the oxide particles in the powders are formed by a high temperature heat-treatment

        The effect of Al addition on the precipitation behavior of a binary Mg-Zn alloy was investigated based on thechanges in the morphology, distribution and element concentration of precipitates formed during aging treatment. The as-castMg-6.0 mass%Zn (Mg-6Zn) and Mg-6.0 mass%Zn-3.0 mass%Al (Al-added) were homogenized at 613K for 48h and at 673Kfor 12h; they were then solid solution treated at 673K for 0.5 h and 1 h, respectively. The Mg-6Zn and Al-added alloys wereaged at 403 K and 433K. The peak hardness of the Al-added alloy was higher than that of the Mg-6Zn alloy at each agingtemperature. Rod-like, plate-like, blocky, and lath-like precipitates were observed in the Al-added alloy aged at 433K for230.4ks, although the rod-like and plate-like precipitates were observed in the TEM microstructure of the Mg-6Zn alloy agedat 433K for 360 ks. Moreover, the precipitates in the Al-added alloy were refined and densely distributed compared with thosein the Mg-6Zn alloy. The Cliff-Lorimer plots obtained by the EDS analysis of the rod-like and plate-like phases in theAl-added alloy peak aged at 433K for 230.4ks were examined. It was confirmed that the phases had higher concentrationof solute Al atom than was present in the phases, indicating that the properties of precipitates can be changed by Al addition.

        The precipitation behavior in Mg-6 wt%Zn-1 wt%Y alloy annealed at different temperatures of 200˚C and 400˚C has been characterized by high resolution transmission electron microscope. When the alloy is annealed at 200˚C for 6 hr, the plate- and the rod-shaped β2' phases are precipitated in the matrix. The orientation relationship of plate-shaped precipitates with the matrix exhibits a [11ar20]β2 || [10ar10]Mg, (0001)β2' || (0001)Mg. While the rod-shaped precipitates have two kinds of the orientation relationships with the matrix, i.e. [11ar20]β2'||[0001] Mg, (0001)β2'||(11ar20) Mg and [11ar20]β2'||[0001] Mg, (ar1106)β2'||(10ar10) Mg. With increasing annealing time at 200˚C the β1' phases are also precipitated in the matrix and the orientation relationship exhibits a [010]β1' || [0001]Mg, (603)β1' || (01ar10)Mg between the β1' precipitate and the matrix. The icosahedral phases are precipitated in the alloy annealed at 400˚C and exhibit a [I2]I || [0001]Mg relationship with the matrix.

        The precipitation behaviors of γ″(Ni3Nb) in four Ni-base alloys were investigated. The four alloys were forged Ni20Cr20Fe5Nb alloy, mechanically alloyed Ni20Cr20Fe5Nb alloy, IN 718 alloy and ECAPed(equal channel angular pressing) IN 718 alloy. Aging treatment was employed at either 600℃ or 720℃ for 20 hrs. The TEM observation and hardness test were performed to identify the formation of γ″. The precipitation of γ″ was noticed after aging at 600℃ for 20 hrs in the mechanically alloyed Ni20Cr20Fe5Nb alloy and ECAPed IN 718 alloy, while it was observed after aging at 720℃ for 20 hrs in the forged Ni20Cr20Fe5Nb alloy and IN 718 alloy before ECAP. The lower aging temperature for γ″ precipitation in the mechanically alloyed Ni20Cr20Fe5Nb alloy and ECAPed IN 718 alloy than in the forged Ni20Cr20Fe5Nb alloy and IN 718 alloy before ECAP appeared to be due to the severe plastic deformation which occurred during mechanical alloying or ECAP.

        The effect of use of as PCA(process control agent) to prevent the carbon contamination during mechanical alloying process and the precipitation behavior in Ni-20Cr-20Fe-5Nb bulk alloy after aging were investigated. NbC and were formed during mechanical alloying and consolidation processes in the Ni-20Cr-20Fe-5Nb alloy in which methanol() was added as PCA. Formation of NbC in this alloy decreased the amount of Nb dissolved in the Ni matrix. The use of as PCA in Ni-20Cr-20Fe-5Nb alloy prevented the formation of NbC and increased the hardness. The increase of hardness in this alloy was attributed to the increased amount of Nb dissolved in the Ni matrix. After aging treatment for 20 hours at of Ni-20Cr-20Fe-5Nb bulk alloy in which added as PCA, precipitates were formed, respectively. The precipitation temperatures of and in this bulk alloy were lower than those in commercial IN 718 alloy. It seemed that the lower precipitation temperatures for and in this bulk alloy than in commercial IN 718 alloy were due to severe plastic deformation during mechanical alloying.

        0.07%C-0.014%Ti-0.015Nb-0.005%B강 (강종 B)을 각각 TMCP처리하여 그 기계적 특성과 B의 거동을 조사하였다. Ta-B강이 Ti-Nb-B강보다 인장강도는 더 우수하였으나 충격 흡수에너지는 훨씬 더 낮았다. Ta-B강의 강도가 Ti-Nb-B강보다 더 우수한 이유는 Ta-B강에서의 Ta의 석출강화 효과가 Ti-Nb-B강에서의 Ti와 Nb의 석출강화 효과보다 더 크기 때문으로 생각된다. Ta-B강은 입내파괴, Ti-Nb-B강은 임계파괴의 파괴양상을 보여이며, Ti-Nb-B강이 Ta-B 강보다 더 큰 충격 흡수에너지를 나타내었다. TMCP에서는 항온변태시의 평형석출과는 달리 연속냉각방법을 사용하였기 때문에 B가 결정립계에 평형적 또는 비평형적으로 편석되어 준안정상으로 생각되는 연속적인 필름 형태의 붕화물을 형성한다. 또한, 냉각속도의 차이에 따라 석출물은 결정질이 되거자 비정질이 되었다. B의 함량이 많은 Ti-Nb-B강에서는 석출물이 비정질상이었다. 한편, B함량이 적은 Ta-B강에서는 B강에서는 결정립계에서 B가 관찰되지 않아는데, 이것은 결정립계에서의 B의 석출이 B의 함량에 매우 민감함을 의미하는 것이다.

        수평자장을 건 Czochralski(HMCZ) 방법으로 자장강도(B)와 도가니 회전속도(C)가 실리콘 단결정의 산소편석에 미치는 영향에 대하여 연구하였다. B=2, 3, 4kG와 C=4-15rpm에서<100> 방향으로 성장시킨 57mm 직경의 단결정들 내의 산소분포는 대체로 축을 따라서 불균일하였고 톱니모양을 나타내었다. 종래의 CZ 방법과 비교할 때, 이러한 산소분포의 불균일성은 위 강도의 수평자장이 결정성장계면으로의 산소전달에 불안정한 요소로 작용했음을 나타낸다고 볼 수 있다. 반면에 C의 증가는 산소분포의 불균일성의 약화와 산소농도의 전반적인 증가를 유도하였다. 이 결과를 토대로 B=2kG에서 27-36ppma인 산소분포를 가진 단결정이 프로그램된 C에 의해서 얻어졌다. 소자제조공정을 모의한 열처리 과정에서 HMCZ 실리콘의 산소석출은 종래의 CZ 실리콘의 산소석출에 비해서 상대적으로 불균일하였고, as-grown 상태에서의 고르지 못한 HMCZ 실리콘의 산소분포가 주요 원인임이 밝혀졌다.
