        The acai berry (Euterpe oleracea Mart.) contains vitamin B complex, vitamin C, anthocyanin and so on. Especially acai berry was seen as nutritionally comparable to blueberry and related berries. The acai berry has significant aging-reducing properties. Compounds have been found to have anti-aging and antioxidant components. Acai berry was extracted with 70% methanol, 70% ethanol and CM (chloroform:methanol=2:1, v/v). After sample and reagents of each experiment was reacted, DPPH radical scavenging activity and ABTS radical scavenging activity, ferric reducing antioxidant power, reducing power were measured to determine the antioxidant capacity, and as results of comparing each extract. Ethanol (70%) extraction was measured highest. Anthocyanin, total phenol, flavonoid also appeared similar to the results. In addition, the antioxidant activities of the extraction solvents were increased significantly with increasing concentrations, but showed lower antioxidant activity than the positive control (ascorbic acid). As a result, antioxidant activities of sample supposed to affect by the anthocyanin, phenol and flavonoid contents.

        Cultural characteristics Lecanicillium lecani Btab01 and its insecticidal activity against tobacco whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) were investigated. On potato dextrose agar, tryptic soy agar and SDA+Y media, mycelial growth of L. lecani Btab01 was best at 20~25℃ and suppressed above 28℃. Both solid culture and liquid culture of L. lecani Btab01 showed high insecticidal activity, 93.9 and 98.3% respectively, against nymph of tobacco whitefly, but there is no significant difference. When culture of L. lecani Btab01 was treated at the concentration of 10⁵, 10⁶, 10⁷ and 10⁸ cfu/ml, their insecticidal activity were 5.8%, 33.8%, 77.3% and 98.5% respectively, and LT<SUB>50</SUB> values were 16.1 days, 7.3 days, 5.1 days and 3.5 days respectively. When nymphs were treated by the cultures of L. lecani Btab01 and maintained under saturated condition for zero hour, 24 hours and 168 hours, their control activities were 0%, 20.3% and 100% respectively. Spore germination of L. lecani Btab01 was increased about two times by adding edible oil. When L. lecani Btab01 was treated to control nymph with 0.1% edible oil, it showed high control activity (98.6%) compared to single treatment of L. lecani Btab01 (79.9%).

        Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. aizawai CAB109 isolated in Korea is known active against Spodoptera sp.. Especially, B. thuringiensis aizawai CAB109 isolates showed 100% mortality against Spodoptera litura and Spodoptera exigua. To screen highly active B. thuringiensis, the pathogenicity of B. thuringiensis CAB109 was compared with that of commercialized B. thuringiensis products. LC₅₀ values of CAB109, product TB-WP and product SC strains of B. thuringiensis were 1.3x10⁵, 2.3x10⁶ and 5.2x10⁵ cfu/㎖ against the 2nd larva of S. litura and 1.8×10⁴, 1.3×10⁶ and 1.5×10⁶ cfu/㎖ against the 2nd larva S. exigua, respectively. To determine new gene"s existence and absence, the plasmid DNA was extracted, and compared to that of B.t. aizawai HD-133. Both B. thuringiensis were not like plasmid DNA pattern. PCR technique was used to predict both plasmid DNA"s cry gene. PCR products analysis showed that B.t. CAB109 harbor Cry1Aa, Cry1Ab, Cry1C and Cry1D and B.t. HD-133 has Cry1Aa and Cry1Ab, respectively.

        Bacillus thuringiensis with selected high toxicities against tobacco cutworm, Spodoptera litura were isolated from domestic soils. When being observed under a phase-contrast microscope, the insecticidal crystal proteins were showed a bipyramidal crystal types. New CAB 109 isolate was identified to B. thuringiensis subsp. aizawai in the H serotype. As a results of insecticidal activities between CAB 109 isolate and 3 existing ready-made products against 3rd larva of S. litura, CAB 109 isolate showed 100% mortality with spore concentration (1.3×10⁷ cfu/㎖). It was a very high insecticidal activity compared with a existing ready-made B. t. products. LD₅₀ values of CAB 109 isolate was 9.78×10⁵, 6.87×10⁶ and 1.83×10⁷ cfu/㎖ spore concentration against 2nd, 3rd and 4th larva of S. litura, respectively. Unlike Plutella xyfostella, S. litura was slowly died after application up to 7 days. The weight of S. litura larva applied with CAB 109 isolate were 6-7 times less than controlled group. Even though it didn"t die, it did not grow into next larva. The result observed with scanning electron microscope was that CAB 109 isolate of B. t. aizawai formed a typical bipyramidal crystal protein type. Otherwise, when CAB 109 isolate was examined with SDS-PAGE and with trypsin, there was no difference between CAB 109 strain and ready-made products of B. thuringiensis.

        건강음료로서 품질이 우수한 막걸리 제조를 위하여 발효 온도와 시간을 달리하여 제조한 막걸리의 품질특성과 biogenic amines(BAs)의 생성 및 생리활성을 비교 검토한 결과는 다음과 같다. 발효 중 pH는 3.96~4.36이었으며, 총산 은 발효온도와 기간에 비례하여 증가하였다. 알코올 함유 량은 발효 5일째에 9.0~9.8% 최대치를 보였으며, 총 페놀화 합물의 함량도 25℃, 발효 5일째에 3.01±0.07 mg/g으로 가 장 높았다. 유기산의 함량은 주로 lactic acid이었으며, 온도 의 상승 및 발효기간에 비례하여 증가하였다. Biogenic amines(BAs)은 주로 tryptamine과 putrecine이었으며, tyramine은 발효 7일째에 20, 25 및 30℃에서 각각 6.91과 11.70 및 15.63 mg/mL이 생성되었다. DPPH와 FRAP assay 에 의한 막걸리 추출물의 항산화효과는 25℃>20℃>30℃의 순이었으며, ABTS assay에 의한 항산화효과는 발효온도에 관계없이 DPPH와 FRAP assay 보다 비교적 높은 활성을 나타내었다. α-Amylase 저해활성은 1 mg/mL 처리하였을 때 30℃에서는 3, 5 및 7일차에 각각 67.99±0.11, 73.64±0.43 및 75.51±0.26%로 발효온도와 기간에 비례하여 활성이 증 가하는 경향이었다. 지방전구세포의 lipid droplet 형성 억제 활성은 25℃에서 5일간 발효하였을 때, 활성이 가장 좋았다. 위와 같이 막걸리의 발효조건별 시험 결과로 볼 때, 막걸리 의 최적 발효조건은 25℃에서 5일간 발효하였을 때 가장 품질이 우수한 막걸리를 제조할 수 있을 것으로 판단되 었다.

        본 연구는 한지역에서 생산된 동종의 차 엽을 같은 시기에 채취하여 불발효차와 반발효차로 발효정도가 다르게 제다하여 주요 성분과 생리활성을 비교하였다. 불발효차인 녹차는 일반 가공 방식대로 만든 녹차, 채엽하여 실내 위조의 과정을 거쳐서 만든 위조 녹차로 만들었고, 반발효차인 황차는 햇볕에서 제다한 중(中)발효차인 일쇄차와 강하게 발효를 한 황차를 시료로 하였다. 주요 성분은 일반성분 및 폴리페놀과 카페인의 함량을 분석하였고, 차의 수색,전자공여능

        Many plant species are used in Malaysia in folk medicine for the treatment of cancer. This paper presents some of these species with details on other ethnopharmacological uses, the known bioactivities and some chemical constituents of each of the species given. It is normal practice in traditional medicine that one species of plant is used to treat various ailments. Thus the plant species listed are all used to treat cancer but have various other ethnophrmacological uses as well, some with few other uses and rest with many other uses. Information on bioactivities of each species resulting from tests on human and experimental animals are also given. Proven bioactivities give strength to ethnopharmacological claims on the efficacies of plant resources in the treatment of cancer and various other ailments but will but will not necessarily lead to the production of new pharmaceutical drugs. Many of the known chemical constituents of each species are given. This shows the richness and variety of chemicals containes in each of the species listed. The chemicals listed may or may not prove to be important in the pharmaceutical sciences but is an indication of what each species contatin in thrms of plant chemicals. It is a well known fact that many of the pharmaceutical prescriptions in present day use are of plant origin and semi-synthetic or fully synthetic chemicals produced using knowledge gained from studies of phytochemicals. Thus the paper presented will give useful information and also shows the richness of plant species that have high potentials for the development of anti-cancer resources from plants in Malaysia.
