        To suppress mold generation of yujacheong, Penicillium chrysogenum LB31 was cultured, and spores were harvested and put into yujacheong. Antioxidant activity, useful ingredients, mold size and incidence were investigated while storing yujacheong for 30 days, after sterilization with different methods (nontreatment, ozone gas emission, heating after ozone gas emission and heating). The results showed that the content of narirutin, naringin, hesperidin, or neohesperidin, which are functional components of yuzu, increased as the storage period increased in all the treatment units. In addition, mold generation was not observed until the 15th day in the heat treatment group after ozone gas emission. As the treatment group emitted ozone gas. molds of 34.8 and 112 mm2 in size were observed on the 30th day. These results suggested that ozone sterilization can prevent microbial contamination, further extending the shelf life of yuzacheong and maintaining a fresh state.

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of sterilization, storage period and washing yuzu, according to the washing method, during the storage period. The results showed that the fungus size increased as the storage period increased, and no mold occurred in the yuzu washed with ozone water until 20 days. After 30 days of storage, a mold of 124.1±13.9 mm2 was observed. The no-treatment sample had a fungus of 814.5±72.8 mm2 in size on day 0 and the fungus the largest fungus was 6,362±636.7 mm2 on day 30. In the case of water treatment, the fungus was 286.4±31.5~4,836.4±484.6 mm2 in size. The results of the study confirmed that washing yuzu with ozone water has a sterilizing effect.

        This study aims to investigate the proper mixing treatment concentration of ozone (O3) and sucrose to preserve and extend the vase life of the cut rose flowers ‘Dominica’. The vase solution was prepared using tap water, 3% sucrose, ozone 5.5 mg L-1, and 3% sucrose with ozone 5.5 mg L-1. The vase life was the highest in the tap water and ozone treatments at 16.3 and 16.1 days, respectively. The vase life of ozone with sucrose treatment was 6.9 days, which was 9.4 days lower than that of the control. Compared to a single treatment, the vase life termination symptoms for ozone with sucrose treatment decreased petal wilting and increased bent necks. Relative fresh weight and vase solution uptake increased up to 4 days after treatment and decreased from 2 days before vase life termination. The rate of change in petal color was high in L*, a*, and b* for the sucrose treatment than after harvest, and low for the ozone treatments. The maximum relative flower size increase rates after treatment were 195% in the control, 186% in the sucrose treatment, 171% in the ozone treatment, and 155% in the ozone with sucrose treatment.

        Water and wastewater treatment has always been a challenging task due to the continuous increase in amount and the change in characteristics of the poorly biodegradable and highly colored organic matters, as well as harmful micro-organisms. Advanced techniques are therefore required to successfully remove these pollutants from water before reuse or discharge to receiving water bodies. Application of ozone, which is a powerful oxidant and disinfectant, alone or as part of advanced oxidation process depends on the complex kinetic reactions and the mass transfer of ozone involved. Micro- and nano bubbling considerably improves gas dissolution compared to conventional bubbles and hence mass transfer. It can also intensify generation of hydroxyl radical due to collapse of the bubbles, which in turn facilitates oxidation reaction under both alkaline as well as acidic conditions. This review gives the overview of application of micro- and nano bubble ozonation for purification of water and wastewater. The drawbacks of previously considered techniques and the application of the hydrodynamic ozonation to synthetic aqueous solutions and various industrial wastewaters are systematically reviewed.

        Optimal processes to remove chromaticity at E water treatment plant(WTP) mainly caused by algae of E lake in Jeju island were investigated based on lab-tests of chlorine and ozone oxidation. 42.9% of chromaticity of filtered water was removed by chlorine oxidation under pH 7.0∼8.0, dose of 1.0 mg/L with contact time of 30∼60 min. On the other hand, chromaticity removal was 71.4% when post-ozone dose of 0.9∼1.9 mg/L and pH 9.0, while it was increased to 86.7% under post-ozone dose of 3.1∼7.3 mg/L and pH 9.0. However, there was no significant chromaticity removal efficiency increase when ozone doses were higher than 5.0 mg/L regardless of feeding point(i.e., pre-ozonation and post-ozonation) and pHs(i.e., 7.0 and 9.0.) under the experimental conditions. Based on the results, chlorine oxidation using existing chlorination facilities at the WTP is recommended for lower chromaticity while ozone oxidation is recommended for higher chromaticity by installing new ozone feeding facilities.

        본 연구는 플라즈마-촉매 및 오존 처리공정을 이용하여‘홍로’사과 저장과정에서 발생되는 에틸렌 을 제거하고자 하였다.‘홍로’사과는 저장온도가 증가할수록 호흡속도가 빨라져 산소농도는 급격히 감소하고 이산화탄소와 에틸렌 농도는 증가하였다. 특히, 저장온도 20℃에서 90시간 저장 후 산소가 모두 소모되었으며, 이산화탄소 농도는 약 20%로 증가하였다. 플라즈마-촉매와 오존 처리는 에틸렌 제거에 효과적인 것으로 나타났으나, 오존 처리의 경우 사과표면에 반점이 생기는 문제가 발생하였 다.‘홍로’사과의 품질 분석결과 가용성 고형분과 산도는 무 처리군에서 다소 높게 나타났으며, 경도 는 플라즈마-촉매 처리군와 오존 처리군에서 다소 높게 분석되었다. 하지만 유의적 차이는 나타내지 않았다.

        The aim of this study was to evaluate the chemical quenching system for residual ozone and to determine the operating condition for the quenching system. Hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) and sodium thiosulfate (Na₂S₂O₃) were investigated as quenching reagents for ozone removal, and the tendency of each chemical was notably different. In the case of H₂O₂, the degradation rate of ozone was increased as the concentration of H₂O₂ increase, and temperature and pH value have a significant effect on the degradation rate of ozone. On the other hand, the degradation rate of ozone was not affected by the concentration of Na₂S₂O₃, temperature and pH value, due to the high reactivity between the S₂O₃²- and ozone. This study evaluates the decomposition mechanism of ozone by H₂O₂ and Na₂S₂O₃ with consideration for the water quality and reaction time. Furthermore, the removal test for the quenching reagents, which can be remained after reaction with ozone, was conducted by GAC process.

        The ozonation process has been widely used for drinking water disinfection around the world. Recently, the pressurized ozone contactor, in which the side stream typed ozone injection method is installed, has been applied to water treatment system. In this study, numerical calculations were conducted to compare prototype and screw-type ozone contactors based on hydraulic effectiveness in more details. The prototype ozone contactor was already installed and operated in domestic water treatment plant, and the screw-type is the suggested one for improving ozone contact efficiency installing the screw plate to the prototype. Screw turn numbers of screw plate were changed as 3, 5, 7 and 9, respectively for numerical simulation. The CT(concentration of disinfectant in mg/L times time in minutes) value was considered as one of the options for evaluating disinfection ability. From the results, it could be concluded that the performance of the screw-type is higher than that of the protype contactor by controlling the variable T as the tracer time. Also, Morill index of the screw-type(turn numbers = 5 ) appeared to be lower than the other.

        A method of functionalization of multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) at room temperature using dry ozone gas is described. The resulting MWNT were characterized by Fourier transform infrared, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. Combined to these analyses and solubility in liquids, it could be concluded that the dry ozone gas exposure introduces polar functional groups such as carboxylic groups to MWNT similar to acidic modification of MWNT. Particularly, the stable dispersion of MWNT in water after ozone treatment above a critical level could be obtained, implying potential bio-application. The hydrophilic functional groups on the MWNT introduced by ozone oxidation were helpful in improving the interaction with functional groups in PA6 such as -NH2 and -CONH- resulting in improved mechanical properties.

        상용 고분자막으로 많이 사용되는 Polysulfone(PSF)을 오존으로 처리하여 기체의 투과 및 분리특성을 조사하였다. 고분자막의 오존처리는 chamber 내부에 막을 설치하고 약 5vol.%의 오존을 포함한 산소를 chamber에 연속적으로 공급하면서 일정시간 동안 오전처리를 수행하였다. PSF막의 선택도는 오존처리시간에 따라 증가하였으며 적정 오존처리 시간은 1.5시간이면 충분한 것으로 조사되었다. 그리고, 오존처리에 의한 He/N2, H2/N2, O2/N2, CO2/CH4등의 선택도의 증가는 분자크기가 큰 N2나 CH4의 투과도의 감소에 기인하며 분자크기가 작은 기체의 투과도의 감소는 매우 작은 것으로 나타났다. 오존처리에 의한 선택도의 증가는 오존이 PSF 고분자를 부분적으로 산화시키고 이때 생성된 산소복합체들이 PSF의 자유부피를 감소시키기 때문으로 생각된다.

        For the purpose of improving hygienic quality of dried-Angelica Keiskei Koidz powder, the effects of ozone treatment and gamma irradiation on the microbial decontamination and physicochemical properties were investigated. Gamma irradiation at 5 to 7.5 kGy resulted in sterilizing total aerobic bacteria, molds and coliforms below detective levels, while ozone treatment for 8 hours up to 18 ppm did not sufficiently eliminate the total aerobic bacteria of the sample. The physicochemical properties of the sample were not changed by gamma irradiation up to 7.5 kGy, whereas, ozone treatment caused remarkable changes in pH, TBA value, chlorophyll, carotenoid and fatty acid compositions. Therefore, this investigation demonstrated conclusively that gamma irradiation was more effective than ozone treatment for decontaminating and sterilizing the dried-Angelica Keiskei Koidz powder, with minimal effect on the physicochemical properties analyzed.

        As a preliminary experiment to investigate the effect of ozone sterelization on the ginseng powder, the changes of fatty acid composition and organic acid content and sensory properties in ginseng powder treated with ozone was investigated. Ginseng powder was treated with 0.5 ppm ozone for 24 hours and 48 hours, respectively. With increase in ozone treatment time, the content of crude lipid and total unsaturated fatty acid decreased, whereas composition of total saturated fatty acid increased. Contents of unsaturated fatty acid-linolenic acid, linoleic acid, and oleic acid, etc.-decreased with ozone treatment time, whereas saturated fatty acid of same number-stearic acid-increased. Contents of organic acid were not shown significant changes. Ginseng odor, roasted odor, bitter taste, roasted taste and sweet taste were thicker with ozone treatment times, but pungent taste was thicker with those treatment. These changes of ordors and tastes of ginseng powder with ozone treatment were predicted by oxydation of lipids, flavor components and saponins.

        Ozone treatment was applied to ginseng powder for the improving hygienic quality of ginseng powder. A bacterial strain was isolated form ginseng powder contaminated. The strain designated as GT4, was identified as Escherichia coli species by IMVIC test method. Ozone inhibited strongly total bacteria and coliforms in ginseng powder(initial concentration 10³/g) at 0.35 ppm. High ozone concentration reduced death time of the total bacteria in ginseng powder. However, ozone treatment caused significant degradation in saponins of ginseng powder. Ozone treatment also caused a increase in Hunter's color L value and decrease in a and b values of ginseng powder.

        The purpose of this study was to develop a recycling system for ozone off-gas. Although the ozone transmission rate of the injector method differs slightly depending on the ozone injection rate, it reaches approximately 99%, which is very high. During the increase in water inflow to the ozone recycling system from 2 L/min to 10 L/min, the average ozone recycling rate was 99.4% at a 1 ppm ozone injection rate, 98.6% at a 2 ppm ozone injection rate, 98.1% at a 3 ppm ozone injection rate. Ozone treatment facility operating costs can be divided into the costs of pure oxygen production, ozone production, and maintenance. The annual operating costs of ozone treatment facilities in Korea are estimated to be approximately 38.9 billion won. The annual savings are estimated to be approximately 5.8 billion won when the ozone transfer rate of the diffuser method, which is mostly employed in domestic water treatment plants, is 85% and 15% of the ozone is recycled.

        산업화, 도시화로 인해 수자원의 오염이 악화 되면서 기존에 염소를 이용한 정수처리 방법으로는 깨끗한 물을 공급하는데 어려운 실정이다. 이에 오존을 이용한 고도정수 처리 시설의 도입이 증가하고 있다. 그러나 기존의 방수⋅방식 공법으로 사용되는 에폭시계 방수⋅방식제 및 스테인리스는 오존의 강력한 산화력으로 인해 열화되어 박리 등 문제 발생하였으며, 콘크리트까지 영향을 미쳐 내구성 저하의 원인이 된다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 내오존성 및 내화학성이 뛰어난 금속 패널을 기존의 시공법 보다 손쉬운 방법으로 시공하기 위한 방법으로 금속용사 공법을 이용하여 수처리 시설 콘크리트 구조물의 열화를 원천적으로 방지하기 위한 마감공법 개발 연구의 일원으로 용사금속 종류 에 따른 내오존성 평가를 실시하였으며, 실제 하수처리장 환경에서의 전기화학적 안정성능 평가를 실시하였다. 실험결과 용사금속 Ti이 용사 후에도 내오존성이 뛰어난 것으로 나타났으며, 하수처리장 환경에서의 전기화학적 안정성능 평가 결과 용사금속 Ti가 403.83k∙ Ω∙cm2의 가장 높은 분극저항을 나타남으로써 높은 수준의 내구성을 확보하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

        기존의 정수처리 방법으로는 제거되지 않는 물질이 발생함에 고도정수 처리 시설의 도입이 증가하고 있다. 그러나 오존을 이용한 고도정수처리 시설의 내부 방수·방식재는 오존의 산화력에 의해 열화되며 콘크리트까지 영향을 미쳐 내구성 저하의 원인이 된다. 본 연구에서는 내오존성 및 내화학성이 뛰어난 금속 패널을 기존의 시공법 보다 손쉬운 방법으로 시공하기 위한 방법으로 금속용사 공법을 이용하여 수처 리 시설 콘크리트 구조물의 열화를 원천적으로 방지하기 위한 마감공법 개발 연구의 일원으로 용사금속 종류 및 피막의 표면처리 방법에 따른 내오존성 평가를 실시하였으며, 오존처리 후의 부착강도를 평가하였다. 실험결과 용사금속 Ti이 용사 후에도 내오존성이 뛰어난 것으로 나타 났으며 표면처리 방법으로는 테프론계 봉공처리제를 사용하여 마감하는 것이 내오존성 및 부착성능 확보에 가장 적합한 방법이라 판단된다.
