        This study, based on physical therapy interventions for menstruation disorders, observed the effect of Pilates stabilization exercises and Kinesio taping on dysmenorrhea and prostaglandin F2α levels. Female college students (n=37) who had >70 points on the mood disorder questionnaire (MDQ) and >4 points on the visual analogue scale (VAS) were divided into three different groups, the Pilates group (PG, n= 13), Pilates and Taping group (PTG, n=12), Taping group (TG, n=12). Pilates and taping were performed 3 times a week for 6 weeks. Pre- and post-menstruation difficulties were measured through the MDQ. Changes in blood prostaglandin F2α levels were also measured. Changes in pre- and post-menstrual pain and prostaglandin F2α levels were significantly reduced in the PG, PTG, and TG. Changes in pre- and postmenstrual pain and prostaglandin F2α levels resulted in significant differences in the PTG and TG. Dysmenorrhea and prostaglandin F2α levels were significantly decreased in the TG than in the PTG. These findings suggest that Pilates stabilization exercises and Kinesio taping are effective in decreasing menstrual difficulties and pain in female college students.

        목적 : 학습코칭이 대학생의 자기주도학습 능력 및 학업성취에 영향을 미치는지를 살펴보고, 자기주도학습이 학업성취에도 영향을 미치는지 알아보고자 한다. 방법 : 조별 학습 및 팀기반 학습을 6개월 이상 경험한 전남 소재 안경광학과 전공학생 86명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 수집된 자료는 IBM SPSS Statistics 22를 이용하여 빈도분석, 기술통계량, 신뢰도분석, 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 결과 : 학업성취는 학습코칭과 자기주도학습에 양(+)의 상관관계가 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 학습코칭은 학업성취에 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며(β=.503, p<.001), 전공만족도가 높을수록 학업성취도가 높은 것으로 나타났다(β=.351, p<.01). 학습코칭이 자기주도학습에 미치는 영향을 살펴본 결과, 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며(β=.325, p<.01), 남자인 경우(β=.259, p<.01), 학점이 높을수록(β =.222, p<.05) 자기주도학습 수준이 높은 것으로 분석되었다. 자기주도학습이 학업성취에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 회귀분석을 실시한 결과, 대학생의 자기주도학습은 학업성취에 영향을 미치고(β=.547, p<.001), 전공만족도가 높을수록(β=.404, p<.001) 학업성취에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 결론 : 학습코칭은 대학생의 자기주도학습 및 학업성취에 큰 영향을 미쳤고, 전공만족도가 중요한 변인임을 확인하였다.

        This study investigates how newcomers to the university setting integrate lexical bundles (LBs)—frequently recurring word sequences—into their writing by analyzing the bundles’ syntactic roles (i.e., relations to larger structures). Previous studies have considered phrases and clauses as the main internal structures of LBs; however, these boundaries might not always be clear because such fragmented sequences do not stand alone, but are embedded in larger structures. The current study addresses this gap by investigating the syntactic roles of LBs identified in native and nonnative corpora of English argumentative essays (approximately 1400 essays, comprising half a million words each) written in response to identical writing prompts. The results show that the two language groups display generally similar patterns of using LBs due to their status as novice academic writers, but at the same time, their patterns do diverge to some extent, with some uses unique to or more common to each group. The extent to which different population groups use LBs in relation to the syntactic complexity typical of a given register could be indicative of their language development.

        본 연구는 대학생의 양성평등 의식과 자아존중감이 데이트 폭력 인식에 미치는 영향을 연구하여 대학생의 데이트 폭력 인식을 높이는 것에 기여할 수 있는 교육프로그램을 위한 자료와 데이트 폭력 예방 및 데이트 폭력에 대한 피해를 최소화 할 수 있는 방안을 찾기 위한 자료를 제공하고자 실시하였다. 본 연구의 대상자는 충청지역 대학생을 대상으로 편의표집한 200명으로, 조사기간은 2018년 4월 28일부터 5월 12일까지였고, 배부된 225부 중 200부를 최종 분석하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 21.0 통계프로그램을 이용하였다. 연구결과, 변수간의 상관관계를 보였고, 대학생의 데이트 폭력 의식을 설명하는 선형회귀모형은 통계적으로 유의하였다(F=9.41, p<.001). 회귀모형의 설명력을 나타내는 수정된 결정계수 R2(adj. R2)=.36(.32)으로 회귀모형은 대학생활 적응 총 변화량의 36%를 설명하고 있으며, 그중에서도 폭력유무가 가장 영향력이 컸다. 대학생의 건전한 이성교제 및 올바른 남녀 성역할 인식을 통한 건강한 대학생활적응을 위해 프로그램 개발 및 상담이 필요하다.

        This study is aimed at investigating the effects of flipped learning on self-directed learning attitude in the college setting. For the aim, this study tried to see if there are meaningful changes in learners’ self-directed learning attitude over time. With the research aim in mind, an elective university class of 47 students was observed for 15 weeks. A survey questionnaire was developed from Guglielmino(1977)’s characteristics of self-directed learning attitude, and four characteristics were finally used for this study: Openness, self-directedness, responsibility, and passion for learning. The questionnaire was administered twice in the 5th and 14th weeks, followed by in-depth interviews with 9 participants. A non-parametric test for repeated t-test, Wilcoxon matched pairs signed rank test was used for data analysis. The research findings are as follows. First, the results of the questionnaire indicated that there were statistically meaningful changes in all 4 characteristics of learners’ self-directed learning attitude before and after flipped learning. Second, the analysis of in-depth interviews revealed that students felt positive about their flipped learning since it provided them with great opportunities to develop and strengthen their self-directed learning attitude. Implications and suggestions for further research are provided.

        현재 우리나라의 대학들은 사회에서 요구하는 능력과 태도를 갖추고 이를 준비할 수 있는 인재를 키우기 위해 노력 중이며 이 중 많은 대학들이 핵심역량 기반의 교육을 실시하고 있다. 이에 학생들의 핵심역량을 객관적으로 측정하여 교육성과를 확인할 필요성이 제기되고 있으며 이를 진단할 수 있는 도구들을 개발하고 있다. 전문화된 해양인력을 양성하는 M대학의 경우에도 대학의 특수성을 반영 한 핵심역량 기반 교육을 실시하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 M대학의 핵심역량을 측정할 수 있는 도구를 개발하고 이를 타당화 하는 것이 목적이다. 이를 위해 첫째, 문헌고찰을 중심으로 예비문항을 개발하였고, 둘째, 문항분석 및 탐색적 요인분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 6개의 구성요소를 도출하였다. 마지막으로 최종 검사를 실시하여 총 52개의 문항이 도출되었고 이에 대한 타당성 여부를 확보하였다. 본 연구를 바탕으로 개발한 검사 도구는 학생들의 핵심역량 수준을 진단할 뿐만 아니라 개별 핵심역량 수준을 진단하여 프로그램을 연계할 수 있으며, 궁극적으로 해사 및 해양 특성화를 갖춘 대학의 차별화된 인재를 기르기 위한 기초자료로 사용 가능할 것이다.

        본 연구는 간호보건계열 대학생의 전공만족도, 진로성숙도가 취업스트레스에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위한 서술적 조사연구이다. 본 연구는 G시의 3개학과 간호보건계열 대학생 410명을 대상으로 2017년 9월 26일부터 10월 31일까지 설문조사하였다. 수집된 자료를 토대로 기술통계, ANOVA, ANCOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, Multiple regression으로 분석하였다. 연구결과, 전공선택 동기에 따라 전공만족도(F=9.856, p<.001) 및 진로성숙도(F=6.005, p=.001)가 유의한 차이가 있었으며, 학점은 진로성숙도(F=2.755, p=.042) 및 취업스트레스(F=3.503, p=.016)와 유의한 차이가 있었다. 또한 토익점수는 전공만족도(F=4.514, p=.004)와 유의한 차이가 있었다. 취업스트레스는 전공만족도(r=-.314, p<.001)와 진로성숙도(r=-.514, p<.001) 간에 유의한 상관관계가 있었으며 취업스트레스에 영향을 미치는 요인으로는 전공만족도(β=-.125, p=.007), 진로성숙도(β=-.459, p<.001) 순으로 나타났다. 이를 토대로 간호보건계열 대학생의 취업스트레스를 줄이기 위해 저학년 때부터 학과별 특성에 맞는 전공지도 프로그램을 마련하고 그에 따른 진로지도가 필요하리라 사료된다.

        자기 이해가 높을수록 자신이 소속된 집단에서 원활하고 안정적인 대인관계를 영위할 수 있다. 본 연구는 대학생활과 졸업 후 취업해야하는 부담을 가지고 있는 대학생들을 대상으로 에니어그램 프로그램이 자기이해에 미치는 효과를 검증하려는 목적으로 진행되었다. 연구의 대상은 천안에 위치한 N대학교의 대학생 124명이며, 8주 동안 에니어그램 프로그램을 실시하였다. 또한 자기이해 척도를 사용하여 사전, 사후검사를 통해 수집된 자료는 SPSS Win 23.0을 활용하여 분석하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 에니어그램 프로그램은 대학생의 자기이해에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 사전· 사후 검사 결과 자기이해검사의 하위영역인 안정성, 목표 지향성, 역할인지, 자기수용, 자기주장에 유의미한 결과가 나타났다. 둘째, 대학생의 자기이해 효과를 힘의 중심별로 분석한 결과 힘의 중심별 머리형, 가슴형, 배형에서 공통적으로 드러난 변화는 어떤 상황에서도 일관적이고 동질적으로 자기를 인식하는 안정성과 자기수용으로 나타났다. 이는 본 연구가 자기이해를 높이는데 기여했다는 것을 알 수 있다.

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of heel off stairway walking exercise on the increase of muscle activity and balance activity of the ankle joint muscles in university students with functional ankle instability. The conservative treatment for the control group consisted of stairway walking (n=10) and the experimental group consisted of heel off stairway walking (n=11). The therapeutic intervention of the control and experimental groups was performed a total of 12 exercise sessions, 3 times per week for 4 weeks. To compare the two groups, the level of ankle disability was assessed by using the EMG, BT4 and Pedoscan in pre-treatment and post-treatment. Muscle activity increased in both the experimental groups and control groups in each group, however there was no significant difference between the groups. Balance ability did not show any significant difference. This study demonstrates that heel-off stairway walking is effective in significantly increasing muscle activity, however did not significantly improve balance ability.

        Kim, Jeongyeon. 2018. “A Case Study of Nonnative English-Speaking International Students' Adjustment to a Korean University”. The Sociolinguistic Journal of Korea 26(1). 111~133. In the midst of intense global economic competition, institutions of higher education in many non-English-speaking societies have rigorously expanded internationalization and seen a dramatic increase of international students. This study investigated a case of nonnative English-speaking international students' adjustment to a Korean university devoted to internationalization. A mixed method was adopted to examine the relationships between adjustment and factors including perception of English as a lingua franca (ELF), perception of English-medium instruction, cultural knowledge, and perceived language proficiency. The analysis of the questionnaire responses of 132 international students and qualitative interviews with seven of the respondents revealed their negative view of EMI, which was frequently associated with the local language used in class. Their adjustment correlated significantly with the amount of the knowledge of the Korean culture and with the extent to which they would perceive English as a means of intercultural communication. Although the relationship between their view of EMI and adjustment was not significant, it was found still valid and indirect through the factor of the Korean language proficiency. Notably, in the qualitative interviews, the participants revealed limited understanding of the way interaction is framed in different local communities. These findings are discussed to propose improved support for international students of non-English-speaking higher education.

        This study examined the intake status of energy drinks and related factors among university students in Yeungnam region, Korea. A total of 456 students participated in the study by a self-administered questionnaire. About 26% of the respondents never took energy drinks, whereas about 30% took them previously, but do not take them now. Almost 45% answered that they have taken them up to now. The reasons for first intake of energy drinks were ‘necessity for myself’ followed by ‘curiosity’, ‘recommendation of friends’, and ‘seeing advertisement’, and Chi-square test showed that there was a significant difference according to dwelling status. About half of the respondents took them since high school, and the main reason for energy drink intake was ‘to stay awake’. About 45% of the respondents indicated that they increased study hours after taking energy drinks, whereas almost 40% answered that they had little effect on them. Over half of the respondents experienced side effects after energy drink intake. About one-fifth of the respondents mixed the energy drinks with alcoholic beverages to make them taste better. In addition, in the result for the multinomial logistic regression analysis, gender, grade, dwelling status, smoking status, alcohol drinking status, perception of effect of energy drinks on health, and perception of benefit level of caffeine were the predictors for the respondents who never took energy drinks in comparison with the respondents who have taken them up to now. On the other hand, for the respondents who took them previously but do not take them now compared with those of having taken them up to now, the predictors were dwelling status and smoking status. These results imply that dietary education from childhood regarding knowledge and side effects of energy drinks should be offered.

        This study examined the sweet taste perception, perception of sugar reduction, and utilization of nutrition labeling according to the awareness of the self-perceived sugar intake reduction of university students in Chungbuk Area. The subjects (n=419) were divided into two groups: Awareness of Sugar Intake Reduction (ASIR) group, male=110, female=109; Non Awareness of Sugar Intake Reduction (NASIR) group, male=115, female=85. The overweight/obesity was significantly higher in the ASIR group than in the NASIR group for both male and female students. The sweet taste perception was significantly lower in the ASIR group in male students than in the NASIR group. The purchase level of a product with reduced sugar instead of the original products was significantly higher in the ASIR group in male students than the NASIR group. Beverage purchases after identifying the sugar content were significantly higher in the ASIR group in male students than in the NASIR group. The necessity of nutrition labeling education was significantly higher in the ASIR group both male and female students. Based on these results, the correct perception of sugar reduction and continuous and practical nutrition education of sugar intake reduction need to maintain healthy dietary habits in university students.

        Education is undoubtedly the greatest instrument which man has devised for his own progress. All societies have one form of education or another but the use to which it is put varies. This study investigated study habits, academic locus of control and self-efficacy as correlates of academic achievement among undergraduate students of the University of Lagos, Nigeria. A descriptive research survey was utilised for the study. The sample consisted of 524 undergraduate students selected from five faculties through proportional stratified random sampling technique. Three research questions and corresponding hypotheses were tested at .05 significant level while data were generated using standardized psychological tests which are Internal Control Index (ICI), Self-Efficacy Scale (SES), Study Habit Inventory (SHI) and Cumulative Grade point Average (CGPA) of the participants. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient Statistics was used to analyse the data. Results obtained showed a significant relationship between study habits, locus of control, self-efficacy and academic achievement among undergraduate students of the University of Lagos, Nigeria. It was recommended that parents, lecturers and the stakeholders on the campus and in the society at large should empower the undergraduate students to match both external and internal locus of control by self-efficacy, competence and effective study habits to achieve their academic goals.

        Most people seek a happy life and happiness positively affects sentiment, satisfaction with life, creativity, human relationship, business productivity, and even health and life extension. However, according to a survey in 2013, subjective happiness of adolescents (including university students) was very low compared to other age groups in Korea. Therefore this paper examined the effects of job-seeking stress, appearance recognition, financial situation, trust in government, and locus of control on university students' happiness using SEM (structural equation modeling). 207 university students in Seoul, Korea have been surveyed. At first, an initial experimental SEM model among these variables has been set up and reliability analysis has been conducted. Then multiple regression analyses on job-seeking stress and happiness as well as SEM analysis have been conducted. As a result of these analyses, the SEM model has been revised two times. The final SEM model passed the goodness-of-fit test (using RMR, GFI, NFI, CFI, and IFI indices). The final SEM model showed the followings. First, Higher job-seeking stress (especially sentimental part, rather than environment or action related parts) negatively affects happiness. Second, Trust in government also affects happiness both directly and indirectly. Third, Locus of control is affected both by trust in government and financial situation. Fourth, appearance recognition heavily affects job-seeking stress. In addition, appearance importance is higher than appearance interest, meaning that students who are not very interested in appearance usually recognize the importance of appearance. Finally, happiness is affected neither financial situation nor appearance recognition. Therefore, even either they are in a poor financial situation or not happy with their appearance, they can be happy if they have firm locus of control.

        The purpose of this study is to investigate the difference of basic learning ability according to departments of college students. For this, MANOVA was performed. In order to reflect the difference between major fields, the norm was calculated considering the mean and standard deviation of the whole sample. The raw score was converted into the standard score T and used for the analysis. First, to understand the basic learning ability of college students, participants were classified according to major fields, and the average scores of major courses were checked for sub-areas of basic learning ability. As a result, the average scores varied depending on their major fields. The aeronautics, natural sciences, and health sciences majors, which have overlapping academic fields that emphasize a scientific approach, are ranked higher in the math ability as well as in overall scores. The Arts and Physics departments showed high scores in areas requiring humanistic literacy such as Literacy and Common Sense. Second, the differences in the division of college majors are analyzed by dependent variables. Literacy, Math, Common Sense, and IT were statistically significant (P = .000). Math was estimated at 65%, Literacy at 54%, Common Sense at 46%, and IT at 38%. In other words, students' majors affect the level of basic learning ability, and Math has the greatest influence among basic learning abilities. The results of this study are expected to provide useful information as theoretical and empirical data, to help us understand why the basic learning ability of college students is deteriorating, and set up appropriate educational treatment plan.

        This paper presents a study on motivating and demotivating factors in learning Korean. The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors affecting the learning motivation and demotivation of university students in Singapore taking Korean as unrestricted elective, and investigate what differences exist in the motivating and demotivating factors based on their Korean levels. Through the analysis of surveys on university students in Singapore, it was found that their major motivating factors were the travel orientation and the cultural interest. These motivating factors did not show any difference depending on the Korean levels. The major demotivating factors of Korean learners were the evaluation factor and the language factor. By interpreting open-ended responses, the competition factor was found as a demotivating factor. In addition, the competition factor and the language factor showed differences between the first level and the second level and above. This study suggests to motivate Korean learners by applying the major motivating factors to a class and weakening the major demotivating factors.

        본 논문은 명상에 기반 한 습관개선 프로그램이 대학생들의 정서, 알아차림 및 습관개 선에 미치는 영향, 그리고 습관개선에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 파악하기 위하여 연구하 였다. 대학생들을 대상으로 12주간의 아침명상 프로그램과 습관개선 프로그램 운영을 통 한 연구결과, 습관개선 프로그램은 연구 참여자들의 정서적 안정감 및 평온함에 긍정적 인 효과가 있었고, 알아차림 정도를 향상시켰으며, 습관개선에도 효과가 있는 것으로 나 타났다. 아울러 습관개선에 영향을 미치는 요인으로 명상 을 통한 알아차림 능력 향상, 습관에 관한 체계적인 교육, 습관알아차림일지 작성을 통한 습관의 종합분석이라는 요인 들을 발견하였다. 본 연구는 실무적으로 습관개선 프로그램을 대학생들의 습관개선에 유 용하게 활용될 수 있다는 점에서 시사하는 바가 크고, 명상의 효과를 일상생활 속에서 습관개선이라는 실질적 체험을 통하여 체득할 수 있다는 점에서도 매우 큰 의의가 있다. 또한 향후 좀 더 보완하여 대학생 이외의 일반인들의 습관개선 프로그램으로도 고려해 볼 수 있고, 각종 중독치료 프로그램으로도 확대하여 시행하는 데에도 기여할 것으로 기 대된다.

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the fad dieting status and needs of nutrition education on healthy dieting in male and female collegians according to the desired loss weight. The subjects were 611 students (287 males, 324 females) from universities in Gyeonggi and Gangwon provinces in Korea. The subjects were divided into the following four groups based on the difference between their current body weight and their desired body weight: no desired weight loss (WL0), desired weight loss less than 5 kg (WL5), desired weight loss 6 to 10 kg (WL10), and desired weight loss more than 11 kg (WL11). The fad dieting status was surveyed using a questionnaire about 11 selected trendy dieting methods. The higher desired weight loss group showed higher current weight and BMI in both males and females. Self weight overestimation was higher in the females than in the males, and in the WL10 group than in the other groups of males. As desired loss weight increased, weight loss trials and experienced trendy dieting types increased in both males and females. In the male subjects, the experience of the half meal diet and the chicken breast diet was significantly associated with the desired loss weight. In females, trials of more trendy diet types including the half meal diet, cereal diet, fasting, and Atkins diet were significantly associated with the higher desired loss weight. The need for nutrition education on healthy dieting was high among all the different desired weight loss groups, showing that a minimum of 60% of subjects in each group answered ‘necessary and strongly necessary’, with the highest in the WL11 group in both males and females. From these results, desired loss weight is associated with higher current weight status, unhealthy weight control practices, and needs for nutrition education in both male and female subjects. Therefore, in the future, nutrition education programs should give greater attention to providing healthy dieting methods for young collegians who desire more weight loss.
