A new Hibiscus cultivar ‘Woolred’ having vigorous growth, uniform plant habit, upright, compact branches, and unique flower shape was developed through interspecific crosses between H. sinosyriacus ‘Seobong’ (♀) and H. syriacus ‘Samchully’ ( ♂ ). Hibiscus breeding program was initiated in 2002 and Hibiscus × ‘Woolred’ was preliminarily selected as ‘R-161’ in 2004 due to its vigorous growth and stable flower quality with rich pink flower. The selected line was further evaluated for different growth characteristics such as leaf shape, leaf size, flowering characteristics, and tested for distinctness, homogeneity, and stability during 2007-2009. The new cultivar ‘Woolred’ had violet pink color flower (RHS N74C) with red eye spot, medium in size having fan petals. The size of flower was 11.5 cm and size of red eye was 3.2 cm. Leaves were 7.7 cm long and 4.2 cm wide. After the plant characteristics evaluation for 3 years (2007 ~ 2009), it was registered as a cultivar ‘Woolred’ (3702, No. of plant variety protection rights) in 2011. This newly developed cultivar ‘Woolred’ having vigorous growth and unique flower shape can be used as specimen plant in landscape.

무궁화 ‘문레드’는 화색이 특이한 품종을 육성하기 위 해 2002년 홍단심계 ‘홍대륜’(H. syriacus ‘Hongdaeryun’) 과 홍단심계 ‘삼천리’(H. syriacus ‘Samchully’)를 교잡하 여 2007년부터 3년간 접목 및 삽목을 이용하여 후대검 정을 실시하여 2009년 최종 선발하였고, 2010년 품종 보 호권을 등록하였으며 얻어진 결과는 다음과 같다. 신품종 ‘문레드’는 5년생 접목묘의 경우 수고가280cm 로서 키가 크고 수세가 강하며 가지가 약간 위로 향하 는 특성이 있다. 잎의 특성으로 엽신장은7.5cm, 너비는 5.2cm, 잎의 어깨넓이는 3.2cm, 엽병길이는 1.7cm로서 기 존 품종에 비해 잎이 약간 크고 결각이 얕게 파여있다. 잎의 모양은 난형, 기부의 모양은 약간 둥근모양, 정부의 모양은 뾰족하고, 가장자리 물결은 강한 특성이 있다. 신 품종 ‘문레드’의 꽃은 홍단심계 홑꽃으로, 화경은 12.4cm, 화색은 light pink(RHS 76A), 단심은 pinkish red(RHS 60B)으로 특이하며, 크기가 2.7cm로약간 긴 특성이 있다. 신품종은 기존 무궁화에 비해 화색이 연한 분홍색으로 옅 고 단심의 색이 흐린 특성이 있으며, 꽃잎의 겹침은 완 전 겹치는 I-c형이었다. 꽃잎 모양은 스푼형이며 끝부분 의 톱니모양은 강하고 주름이 져 있다. 수술통 길이는 3.4cm, 주두 색은 4C, 꽃술대색은 NN155C, 개화시는 8월3일로 늦은 만생종이었다. 신품종 ‘Moon Red’는 종 자산업법 제 55조에 의거 2011년 11월 30일 최종등록 (품종보호: 제 3802호) 되었다. 그러므로 본 신품종 ‘문 레드’의 경우 수세가 강하고 가지가 위로 향하며, 화색 이 옅은 분홍색으로 특이하고 단심이 흐린 특성이 있어 앞으로 조경용 소재로 활용될 수 있다.

농촌진흥청 원예특작과학원에서는 2003년에 황색 폼 폰 화형인 ‘Restone’에 자주색 폼폰 화형인 ‘Lollipop’을 교배하여 획득한 실생 집단으로부터 황색 적심 폼폰 화형의 겹꽃 ‘03B1-82’ 계통을 선발하였다. ‘03B1-82’ 계통은 2005년 겨울부터 2007년 3년에 걸쳐 1, 2차 특성검정을 통해 안정성, 균일성 및 흰녹병저항성 검정 및 절화수명에 대해 조사되었고, 2008년에는 우수선발 계통으로 ‘원교B1-142호’ 계통번호를 부여받아 3차 특 성검정을 실시하여 안정성, 균일성에 대한 연차별 재현 성 그리고 주년생산성(촉성, 억제재배), 생산자 및 소 비자 기호성을 평가 받았다. ‘원교B1-142호’는 2008년 에 직무육성품종심의회를 거쳐 ‘옐로우캔디’로 명명되 어졌다. 국화 ‘옐로우캔디’는 10월 하순에서 11월 상 순에 자연 개화하는 절화용 스프레이 추국이다. 황색의 적색화심을 지닌 폼폰화형의 겹꽃으로 초세 및 줄기가 강건하다. 특히 여름철 고온기에도 통상화가 많이 발생 하지 않으며, 촉성 및 억제재배 등 주년생산이 가능하 다. 꽃의 직경이 4.3 cm 내외, 꽃잎수는 소화당 180매 이상, 착화수는 본당 8화 내외의 중형화로 절화수명은 18일 정도이다. 재배상 유의점으로는 둥근모양의 폼폰 형이기 때문에 수확시 꽃이 서로 엉키면 꽃이 떨어지는 경우가 있으며, 여름 장마철 또는 겨울철 환기 부족시 흰녹병 발생을 주의하고 주기적인 방제가 필요하다.

‘Maigic’ 품종은 경남농업기술원 화훼연구소에서 복색 홑꽃인 ‘Artist Pink’를 모본, 복색 홑꽃인 ‘SP0347’을 부본으로 인공교배를 실시하여 2003년에서 2007년에 걸쳐서 파종과 계통선발을 통해 육성하였다. 품종의 특 성검정은 2005년부터 2007년까지 봄 촉성재배와 가을 억제재배 조건아래서 3회에 걸쳐 조사하였다. ‘Maigic’ 품종의 자연개화기는 10월26일경이며, 일장조절에 의해 주년재배가 가능하다. 꽃 크기가 6.1 cm인 중륜화로 꽃 하나의 꽃잎수가 31.6개정도이고 착화수는 14개 정도이다. 화색은 복색(백색/자주색)이며, 녹색화심을 가졌다. 봄의 단일상태에서 ‘Maigic’ 품종의 개화소요일수는 43일 정도 로 개화가 빠르며, 가을의 절화수명은 20.6일로 나타났다.

Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) as an acute form and a catastrophic manifestation of coronary artery disease (CAD) is the major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. The prevalence and incidence of myocardial infarction can be influenced by demographic, biological and psychosocial factors, and it is rare in childhood and adolescent years. Contrary to the elderly, where cardiac attack is mainly caused by CAD, exercise-induced cardiac attack is relatively more prevalent in a young adult. We report here on a case of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) in a young adult during vigorous physical activity and we review the relevant literatures.

A new spray chrysanthemum cultivar ‘Prima Donna’ was released by National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science (NIHHS), Rural Development Administration (RDA), in 2008. The cross was made between ‘Plano’ and ‘Yeonja’ in 2005. Trials were conducted from 2006 to 2008 for the evaluation and selection of this cultivar, including shading cultures in summer and retarding cultures in spring. The natural flowering time of ‘Prima Donna’ is late October, but year-round flowering is possible by photo-periodic control. The cultivar has single type flowers with pink petals, green center and good inflorescence. The growth of plant is very vigorous. The diameter of flower is 7.0cm. The number of flowers per stem and petals per flower are 13 and 42, respectively. Days to flowering under the short day treatment is about 59 and its vase life is 26.1 days in autumn season.

It was selected from the progenies of open-pollination of ‘orbay’in 2002. Trials were conducted from 2005 to 2007 for evaluation and selection of this cultivar, including shading culture in summer and retarding culture in autumn. The natural flowering time of ‘olden Festival’is late October, but year-round flowering is possible by shading and lighting treatment. The cultivar is semi-double type flowers with bright yellow petals and green flower center. Flower neck and stem are very hardy. The diameter of flower is 56.5 mm. The number of flowers per stem and petals per flower are 12.0 and 93.5, respectively. The days to flowering under the short day treatment is about 50 in spring season.

The natural flowering time of “oon Festival”is late October, but year-round flowering is possible by shading and lighting treatment. The cultivar is semidouble type flowers with light-ivory white petals and green flower center. Flower neck and stem are very hardy. The diameter of flower is 67.5 mm. The number of flowers per stem and petals per flower is 11.5 and 100.5, respectively. The days to flowering under the short day is about 54 in autumn season.

The cross was made in 2003 between '01B1-41', a breeding line of NHRI and `01B1-273', a breeding line of NHRI. The characteristics were investigated from 2004 to 2006 for the evaluation and selection of this variety, including shading culture in summer and retarding culture in autumn. The natural flowering time of "Whitney PangPang" is late October, but year-round flowering is possible by shading and illumination. It has pompon type flowers with light-ivory petals and yellow green flower center. Flower neck and stem showed very strong hardness. The diameter of flower is 5.0 cm. The number of flowers per stem is 11 and the days to flower under the short day treatment is about 56 in autumn season. "Whitney PangPang" has over 22 days of long vase life.

A new spray chrysanthemum cultivar, 'Yellow PangPang' was released by National Horticultural Research Institute (NHRI), Rural Development Administration (RDA), in 2005. The cross between 'Restone' and 'Focus' was made in 2001. After evaluation for the characteristics including shading culture in summer and retarding culture in spring and consecutive selection from 2002 to 2005, final selection was made. The natural flowering time of "Yellow PangPang" is late October, but year-round flowering is possible by shading and illumination. It has pompon type flowers with yellow petals and greenish yellow flower center. It shows very strong stem hardness, especially flower neck, and excellent flower setting. The diameter of flower is 3.9 cm. The number of flowers per stem is 11.3 and the days to flower under the short day treatment is about 54 in autumn season. It has long vase life of 21 days in autumn.

The cross between 'Restone' and 'Lollipop' was made in 2003. After evaluation for the characteristics including shading culture in summer and retarding culture in spring between 2002 and 2005, final selection was made. The natural flowering time of "Sunny PangPang" is late October, but year-round flowering is possible by shading and illumination. It has pompon type flowers with orange yellow petals and red flower center. It shows vigorous stem growth and resistance to white rust. The diameter of flower is 4.4 cm. The number of flowers per stem is 11 and the days to flower under the short day treatment is about 49 in summer season.
