The basis of capacity design has been explicitly or implicitly regulated in most bridge design specifications. It is to guarantee ductile failure of entire bridge system by preventing brittle failure of pier members and any other structural members until the columns provides fully enough plastic rotation capacity. Brittle shear is regarded as a mode of failure that should be avoided in reinforced concrete bridge pier design. To provide ductility behavior of column, the one of important factors is that flexural hinge of column must be detailed to ensure adequate and dependable shear strength and deformation capacity. In particular, this study focused on assessing transverse reinforcement contribution to the column shear strength. Transverse reinforcement contribution measured during test. Each three components of transverse reinforcement contribution, axial force contribution and concrete contribution were investigated and compared. It was assessed that the concrete stresses of all specimen were larger than stress limit of Korea Bridge Design Specifications.

In order to simulate the Helmholtz resonator environment, a perforated plate was inserted into a hollow slab to test its vibration performance. The vibration damping ratio was larger in the conventional hollow slab without apertures, however the accelerometer measurement showed a higher vibration reduction effect in the case of the perforated plate.

Frequent unstable natural disasters worldwide in recent year caused damage to large power plants, high-rise buildings, dams and public facilities, resulting in a growing sense of anxiety among people. This is result in the increase of concern for the safety of residential as well as public infrastructure. Considering this growing concern for the public infrastructure a systematic safety evaluation is require. Thus, in this paper, the fragility of weir structure by considering the scour effect of flood was the focused of study. The weir structure in this study was located in Daegu city; it served as the power and water supply and flood prevention. The study was performed by conducting penetration analysis on the variables of the adjacent ground.

This paper presents the application of meso-scale finite element analysis method on concrete split tensile strength. Using the meso-scale finite element analysis, an analytical study on split tensile strength of concrete was conducted. From the analysis results, the size effect on split tensile strength was confirmed.

This paper presents the influence factors of heat transfer in a voided slab under fire situation. The effects of a void in a slab on heat transfer are presented and the results are quantitatively analyzed for each influence factor. For this purpose, the finite element analysis method was used to evaluate the influence of the heat transfer factors on the thermal characteristics in a voided slab. Based on these results, the influence factors which have significant difference in the temperature spectrum were derived.

For the last several years, climatic changes have led to the increase of natural disaster attributed to climatic abnormality, for instance, sweltering heat, heavy snow, or heavy rain. Particularly, localized guerrilla heavy rain mostly occurring in summer often results in flood damage. Such damage may lead to fatal damage to the safety of underground structures having the water level as the load. Accordingly, this study is going to introduce the cases of safety analysis grounded on numerical analysis in order to understand the structural behavior of riverbed tunnels according to water level fluctuations.

The steel double-beam floor system is capable of reducing the construction period due to the weight reduction of the unit members compared to the general rigid-frame steel structure, thereby reducing the indirect construction cost due to the improvement of constructability. However, there is also a problem with the construction management caused by the increase in the number of members. Therefore, in this study, we will apply a combination of different spans of steel double-beam floor systems, to analyze the economic and story-reduction effects, and propose an optimal structural frame.

In this study, a nonlinear analysis method was proposed to investigate serviceability of rail fastening system in concrete track at the railway bridge end. The serviceability investigation method of the fastening system in concrete track is time consuming and is complex in design because of the many decks and fastening systems. In addition, there is also a case where an expensive special fastening device is installed due to the stiffness of the rail fastening device assumed to be linear and the excessive design result by the linear analysis method. Therefore, in this study, the clamping force test was performed to confirm the nonlinearity of fastener. The conventional linear analysis method and the proposed nonlinear analysis method were performed for the railway bridge model specimen with concrete tracks, and the uplift forces acting on the fastening systems were compared and analyzed.

In this study, the explosion resistance on the normal strength concrete and HPFRCC structure members were evaluated. As a result of TNT ignition test, blow out occurred in normal strength concrete structure member, but HPFRCC structure member only cracked slightly. The structure member with 180 MPa HPFRCC has excellent resistance against explosive load. Therefore, HPFRCC is considered to be applicable to national main facilities and major military facilities.

This study examined structural behaviors of grout filled composite steel tube member, since grout-filled steel tube can improve its structural load resistance from enhancing strength, stiffness, and confining effect. To evaluated the effect of grout filling in the steel tube on its structural behaviors and strength, grout-filled steel tube specimens were fabricated and lateral loading tests were conducted. From lateral loading tests, their lateral loading resistance and stiffness were examined.

In this study, The data from the design live load models KL-510, HL-934, and DB-24 were measured, and compared statistically with the measured values from the measurement data from the highway on which the overload control is being performed. The bending moments acting on the single-dimensional beam by the target design basis model are calculated and compared with the bending moments produced by the statistical estimate from the measurement data. The moment caused by the weight of the truck statistically estimated from the data measured on the highway was compared to the moment caused by live loads on each design basis.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the flexural performance of the SCP module fabricated using 40 MPa high-filling concrete and to verify the design flexural load presented in the INCA guidance of DNV. As a result, the maximum flexural load of the SCP module obtained through the structural test was 872 kN, the design flexural load and ultimate load were satisfied.

This paper presents the performance verification test and nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete(RC) strut and concrete filled tube(CFT) strut using super concrete(SC; high strength concrete) for bridges. Reinforce concrete strut as well as CFT strut are poured by 80MPa characteristic strength and CFT strut are used steel pipe with 400 MPa yield strength. Test specimen are manufactured 3 types of strut that 2 types of RC strut and 1 type of CFT strut. Nonlinear finite element analysis was conducted by ABAQUS of commercial FEM software. The results of real scale test specimens are compared with the finite element nonlinear analysis output through load-displacement relation. Through this study, it was investigated that the results of the experiment and those of the analysis are adequately similar.

Analysis studies were carried out on asymmetric column to beam connections of steel plate rolled forming steel-PC composite modules. The main variables of analysis are asymmetric column composite or non-composite, thickness of steel plate and reinforcement or not. As a result of the analysis, the strength of the local buckling decreased from the upper flange of the beam. The connections are improved so that the upper flange surface of the beam has both the moment and horizontal shear resistance elements. As a result of the analysis of reinforced connection, the strength and stiffness increased linearly regardless of the column composition and the thickness of the stiffener. The stability of the connection and the possibility of securing the momentum were confirmed. This result is reflected in the experimental plan of the connection.

Recently, concrete-steel hybrid girder is being developed to improve economic efficiency and durability. To evaluate flexural behavior of the proposed girders, 17.0m full-scale joint was fabricated and tested under vertical loading. The study was examined vertical displacement; the strain of the reinforcement; and the crack patterns in the concrete. The proposed girders was analyzed to be safe in all members.

This study developed a consecutive convexo-concave shaped shear reinforcement approach as an alternative for transverse crossties in basement walls. Test results revealed that the developed shear reinforcement is more favorable to restricting the opening of the inclined cracks and enhancing the shear capacity of the basement wall when compared with the conventional crossties.
