The hypopharyngeal gland (HPG) of the honeybee worker produces royal jelly (RJ) and has a developmental cycle closely related to the division of labor.
In this study, we investigated to compare the HPG acini diameter of differently aged worker bees with high royal jelly producing colony (HRC) or less producing colony (LRC). Additionally, we also evaluated whether the fresh weight of the head is a reliable indicator of the developmental status of HPG.
The HRC showed a significantly higher RJ production about two-times as compared with those of the LRC. We measured the HG-diameters on days 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15. The microscopic analysis revealed that the acini size of the HRC was significantly larger than the LRC. In addition, the acini diameter of HRC was 15% longer than the LRC on the first day after emerging. It was shown that the fastest development during 3 days which is preparing for nurse the brood. The HPG acini diameters increased in both colonies in a similar fashion until day 12 and then decreased. We also compared the fresh head weight of the experimental colonies, differences were similar to the development of HPG.
Therefore, high royal jelly production may have a positive correlation between HPG acini size and the fresh head weight.
Porcine spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) prefer three-dimensional (3D) culture systems to 2D ones for the maintenance of self-renewal. Of the many 3D culture systems, agar-based hydrogels are candidates for supporting porcine SSC self-renewal, and there are various types of agar powder that can be used. In this study, we sought to identify an agar-based 3D hydrogel system that exhibited strong efficacy in the maintenance of porcine SSC self-renewal. First, 3D hydrogels with different mechanics were prepared with various concentrations of Bacto agar, lysogeny broth (LB) agar, and agarose powder, and the 3D hydrogel with the strongest alkaline phosphatase (AP) activity and greatest increase in colony size was identified for the different types of agar powder. Second, among the porcine SSCs cultured in the different 3D hydrogels, we analyzed the colony formation, morphology, and size; AP activity; and transcription and translation of porcine SSC-related genes, and these were compared to determine the optimal 3D hydrogel system for the maintenance of porcine SSC self-renewal. We found that 0.6% (w/v) Bacto agar-, 1% (w/v) LB agar-, and 0.2% (w/v) agarose-based 3D hydrogels showed the strongest maintenance of AP activity and the most pronounced increase in colony size in the culture of porcine SSCs. Moreover, among these hydrogels, the strongest transcription and translation of porcine SSC-related genes and largest colony size were detected in porcine SSCs cultured in the 0.2% (w/v) agarose-based 3D hydrogel, whereas there were no significant differences in colony formation and morphology. These results demonstrate that the 0.2% (w/v) agarose-based 3D hydrogel can be effectively used for the maintenance of porcine SSC self-renewal.
There are many case reports about cysts within the bones of the jaws associated with impacted third molars. When osmotic pressure is introduced into a cyst, the cyst expands and displaces the third molar. If continuity of cyst wall is lost, cystic expansion cannot occur, and the cyst cannot displace the third molar. This study analyzed four cases of pathologic migration of the third molar in ruptured cystic lesions that had formed bone tunnels and intraoral fistulas to identify the causes and factors contributing to this migration. Authors hypothesized that closure of fistulas repeated generation of pressure, it may temporarily increase the osmotic pressure within a cyst that has lost its continuity, causing displacement of the third molar. A cyst that has lost its continuity due to fistula formation within the oral cavity can cause ectopic displacement of the adjacent impacted teeth.
The organic light-emitting diodes are fabricated with six anthracene derivatives containing simple substituents such as phenyl or naphthyl group. The device structure is as in the following: Indium tin oxide (ITO) (180 nm)/4,4-4,4`,4``-tris[N-(1-naphthyl)-Nphenylamino] triphenylamine (2-TNATA) (30 nm)/4,4`-bis[N-(1-naphthyl)-N-phenyl-1-amino] biphenyl (NPB) (20 nm)/Emitting compound (30 nm)/2,2′,2"- (1,3,5-Benzinetriyl)-tris (1-phenyl-1-H–benz-imidazole) TPBi (40 nm)/lithium quinolate (Liq) (2 nm)/Al (100 nm). In the emitting layer the anthracene derivatives are used without any dopant. All the six devices show blue emissions. Among the tested diodes, the one with 9-(2-naphthyl)-10-(p-tolyl) anthracene (2-NTA) exhibited luminous efficiency, power and external quantum efficiencies of 3.26 cd/A, 0.98 lm/A, 2.8 % at 20 mA/cm .
Purpose: This study evaluates the clinical judgment levels of nursing school students in simulation practice of diabetic ketoacidosis and score differences in clinical judgment levels based on academic record grades. Methods: The clinical judgment levels of 149 nursing students (3rd grade) who received a lecture on simulation practice for diabetic ketoacidosis simulation were evaluated during the period from March 3 to June 20, 2014. Data were collected and measured for the general characteristics, clinical judgment levels of nursing students in simulation of diabetic ketoacidosis, and difference in scores of clinical judgment levels according to grades. Results: Clinical judgment levels of these test participants was 2.82 points on average out of a full score of 4 points, and it was represented in the order of noticing (3.01), interpretation (2.86), response (2.79), and reflection (2.60) for each area. In addition, score differences in clinical judgment levels based on academic record grades were significantly higher in the upper ranks than in the lower ranks in all the areas. Conclusion: In simulation practice of this study, through observation by rubric education method, an objective recognition could be assessed and the importance of nursing knowledge was implied.
Despite many researches related with in-vitro culture of porcine spematogonial stem cells (SSCs), adherent culture system widely used has shown a limitation in the maintenance of porcine SSC self-renewal. Therefore, in order to overcome this obstacle, suspension culture, which is known to have numerous advantage over adherent culture, was applied to the culture of porcine SSCs. Porcine SSCs retrieved from neonatal testes were suspension-cultured for 5 days or 20 days, and characteristics of suspension-cultured porcine SSCs including proliferation, alkaline phosphatase (AP) activity, and self-renewal-specific gene expression were investigated and compared with those of adherent-cul-tured porcine SSCs. As the results, the suspension-cultured porcine SSCs showed entirely non-proliferative and significantly higher rate of AP-positive cells and expression of self-renewal-specific genes than the adherent-cultured porcine SSCs. In addition, long-term culture of porcine SSCs in suspension condition induced significant decrease in the yield of AP staining-positive cells on post-day 10 of culture. These results showed that suspension culture was inappropriate to culture porcine SSCs, because the culture of porcine SSCs in suspension condition didn’t stimulate proliferation and maintain AP activity of porcine SSCs, regardless of culture periods.
The genus Gonioctena Chevrolat is distributed in the Holarctic and Oriental regions, with more than 80 species. Many species of the genus have great similarity in external morphology and coloration, often cause misidentifications. Thus, the shape of the aedeagus is mainly used to distinguish closely related species. Fifty-four species, more than half of the known taxa, occur in northeastern Asia, including 18 species in the Russian Far East, 29 in China, 11 in Korea, and 18 in Japan. Among these, G. gracilicornis Kraatz (type locality: Amur) is widely distributed in Russia, China, Mongolia and Korea. However, extensive investigation on Gonioctena in Korea revealed that the Korean population of G. gracilicornis differs from that of the Russian by the coloration, the puncturation of pronotum, and the shape of aedeagus. The purpose of this study is to describe a new species of Gonioctena that was previously misidentified as G. gracilicornis. A key to Korean Gonioctena, distribution, and host plant are also provided.
한우육을 비롯한 육류 4종, 육가공식품으로서 다시 다류 4종, 라면수프류 5종, 컵라면수프류 2종, 그리고 햄류 3종과 소시지류 3종에 있어서의 크레아티닌 함량을 조사하여 다음의 결과를 얻었다. 한우육에 있어서의 크레아티닌 함량은 시료 100g당 252.0㎎으로서 수입우육의 경우보다 높았으며, 계육<돈육<수입우육<한우육의 순으로 함량이 높게 나타났다. 다시다류와 라면수프, 컵라면수프류에서의 크레아티닌 함량은 2.0㎎에서 67.4㎎까지의 분포를 나타내었으므로 이들의 조성성분중에 모두 육류성분이 존재하는 것으로 나타났다. 다시다류와 컵라면수프류중의 한가지 시료는 다른 3종의 다시다류나 1종의 컵라면수프류의 크레아티닌 함량보다 매우 높았다. 햄류와 소지지류의 경우 크레아티닌 함량이 고른 분포를 보였으며, 햄류의 크레아티닌 함량이 소시지류보다 22∼37% 정도 높았다.
In the view of the fact that data are scare concerning the change of Methionine composition of poultry meat in function of storage temperature and cooking method. The present study was carried out to change in these compounds and the results were summarized as follows. 1. The result of measuring methionine compound of raw material stored under the condition of 5℃, 10℃ for 6 weeks were increased as temperature increases. 2. The result of change in methionine compound of roasting were decreased than raw material It was greatly decreased in the storage for 42 days at 10℃ and slightly decreased in the storage for 14 days at 5℃ 3. When the boiling in the water, methionine compound was decreased than roasting to compare with raw material 4. By the results of this study, one of the best cooking method is roasting, because of the change in methionine compound of roasting is slightly decrease.
During the last glacial–interglacial transition, there were multiple intense climatic events such as the Bølling–Allerød warming and Younger Dryas cooling. These events show abrupt and rapid climatic changes. In this study, the climate events and cycles during this interval are examined through wavelet analysis of Arctic and Antarctic ice-core 18O and tropical marine 14C records. The results show that periods of ~1383–1402, ~1029–1043, ~726–736, ~441–497 and ~202–247 years are dominant in the Arctic region, whereas periods of ~1480, ~765, ~518, ~311, and ~207 years are detected in the Antarctic TALDICE. In addition, cycles of ~1019, ~515, and ~209 years are distinct in the tropical region. Among these variations, the de Vries cycle of ~202–209 years, correlated with variations in solar activity, was detected globally. In particularly, this cycle shows a strong signal in the Antarctic between about 13,000 and 10,500 yr before present (BP). In contrast, the Eddy cycle of ~1019–1043 years was prominent in Greenland and the tropical region, but was not detected in the Antarctic TALDICE records. Instead, these records showed that the Heinrich cycle of ~1480 year was very strong and significant throughout the last glacial–interglacial interval.
As a result of inquiring into the analysis consequent on a symptom by research subject, it was found that there were 1 paper (1.5%) which did research for the purpose of rehabilitation of the general public, 26 papers (38.8%) targeting diagnosis-related groups (DRG), and 40 papers (59.7%) targeting social consideration subject. Also, as a result of the inquiry about the frequency & number of times of horticultural therapy program implementation, it was found that 49 papers (73.1%) implemented one time a week, and 45 papers (67.2%) were surveyed as the highest by conducting a total of 11~20 sessions of horticultural therapy programs, In the analysis of horticultural therapy activities by type, plant cultivation activity was found to be the most 506 times, accounting for 41.5%, followed by 297 time crafts activity (24.4%), 213 time floral decoration activity (17.5%), and 203time others activities (16.7%). In cultivation activity, soil-using cultivation activity (25.1%) was found to be lower than the proportion (74.9%) of soiless cultivation (16.4%), crafts activity (24.4%), floral decoration activity (17.5%) and other activities (16.7%). The most used plants in a restricted place like a hospital were found to be in the order of Hedera helix, Chamaedorea elegans, Succulent plant, Syngonium podophyllum, Neofinetia falcata HU, Hoya carnosa (L.f.) R.Br.), Rosmarinus officinalis, and Spathiphyllum spp.
