The permanent shutdown of NPPs (nuclear power plants) has been growing steadily around the world. Also, permanent shutdown of old NPPs has been determined following to Kori-1 and Wolsong-1 in the Korea. Among issues of decommissioning of NPPs, especially, the management of radioactive waste is the most sensitive issue. According to IAEA, a large volume of radioactive concrete waste would be generated from decommissioning of nuclear facilities. Also, EC (European commission) expected that about 500 million tons of concrete will be produced in Europe by 2060 due to decommissioning of NPPs. It is known that the radioactive concrete consists of surface contaminated concrete and activated concrete. So, if contaminants from radioactive concretes can be removed using specific technologies, volume reduction of concrete can be achieved. Since there is no experience of decommissioning of NPPs in Korea, it is important to analyze previous cases. In this study, decontamination of radioactive concrete is analyzed through previous studies. Decontamination technologies of concrete are composed of mechanical methods, chemical methods, and thermal methods. Mechanical methods are physical technologies separating contaminants from concrete using scabbling, milling, and vacuum cleaning. In chemical methods, contaminants were removed from concrete using an oxidizing agent/reducing agent, acid/base. Thermal methods are removal technologies using lasers, microwaves, and pulsed power discharge. Some methods still have practical use cases, and further research is needed on the issue of generation of secondary waste. Review on the experience of decontamination of concrete show that waste of concrete generated during decommissioning of NPPs are expected to have effect of large volume reduction. However, many studies are needed because secondary waste and decontamination cost is sensitive issue of concrete generated during decommissioning of NPPs. In order to successful decommissioning of NPPs in Korea, various research of decontamination of concrete are need

The characteristics of extracts and precipitates after extraction at different water temperature (25, 50, 75, 95oC), ethanol ratio (25, 50, 75, 100%), and extraction method (stir, soak, autoclave) of yam powder and raw yam were investigated. The total polyphenol content was the highest in the 50% ethanol extract of yam powder. The DPPH radical scavenging activity was the highest in the 75% ethanol extraction and the crude saponin content was the highest in the 95oC water extraction. Tyrosinase inhibitory activity was the highest in 95oC water extraction, low concentration of ethanol extraction, and autoclave extraction. The peak viscosity, trough, and final viscosity of the precipitates increased after ethanol extraction, whereas decreased after the 95oC water extraction and the autoclave, indicating the destruction of starch granules. This was confirmed by observing the starch granules broken using the SEM. The significance of this study was to investigate the possibility of the use of yam resources as a material, processing product development, skin beauty functional food and cosmetic material.

The physiochemical properties of dried yam (Dioscorea batatas) by freeze dryer, cold-air dryer or hot-air dryer were examined for chromaticity, water absorption index (WAI), water soluble index (WSI), rehydration, viscosity properties and pasting properties. Freeze dried yam was maintained higher degree of lightness and higher WAI and WSI than those of cold-air or hot air dried one. In the case of rehydration, freeze dried yam was restored within one hour. The viscosity properties of freeze dried yam were the highest viscosity in all shear rates. Freeze dried yam was milled by roll mill (RM), pin mill (PM) or jet mill (JM) to evaluate for particle size, starch damage, pasting property and microstructure. Particle size was JM < PM < RM as 13.85~112.50 μm. In the result of starch damage, it was the highest value as 8.83 in JM, was the lowest value as 7.47 in RM. In pasting property, JM had relatively low viscosity at all shear rates. In the Microstructure by measuring scanning electron microscope, JM particle surfaces were rough with high starch damage, and particle size was confirmed fine particles in JM.

Part 2 of the Questionnaire Survey on Marine Safety and VTS in the Philippine Coastal Waters presents the alternatives to risk reduction, modifying the VTS, the qualification and competency of a VTS operator and effectiveness of the services and assistance rendered by VTS. This study finds that majority of respondents chose "Improved education and training of mariners" as the best alternative to risk reduction and the "Strict enforcement of ship safety regulations" as the best alternative based on the respondents' ranks last served onboard and areas of familiarity. In modifying the VTS, the areas with VTS chose to "Improve or upgrade" and for those without, is to "Implement" the system. The best VTS system is the "Port and Approaches" type and the PCG is selected to operate, maintain and supervise the system. As a VTS operator, the necessity of shipboard experience is considered "Essential" and the experiences include "Ship-handling and Communication", and "Management level" experiences. The effectiveness of the assistance and services rendered by VTS are considered "Very Important". Based on these findings, this study recommends improvement of education and training of mariners and users of the waterways including the training of VTS operators manning the VTS centers, strict enforcement of ship safety regulations along the busy and main ports of the country and installation of VTS system with the most appropriate type with the supervision of PCG.

The genus Pratylenchus is considered as one of the most important plant-parasitic nematodes around the world because of its broad spectrum host ranges and worldwide distribution. 72 species of root-lesion nematodes have already been described from various parts of the globe. Among all of them, only 5 species are regulated as a target species in quarantine inspection. As the importation of target items inspecting nematodes are surely increasing every year, detection rate of nematodes in quarantine also increased. However, the rate of species identification has been decreased due to lack of related information. The species belonging to genus Pratylenchus are shown very low identification rate because we have specimens and information about only 10 domestic species and 5 regulated species. In this study, we identified the species in the genus Pratylenchus and obtained related information for application in the quarantine field. Species identification was performed with extracted nematodes from plants obtained in the recent quarantine inspection. Newly identified species were 5 species including Pratylenchus crenatus, P. fallax, P. kumamotoensis, P. panamaensis and P. penetrans. The photos, measured value and morphological characters of each species are provided.

To evaluate peanut sprouts as a functional food material, the quality characteristics and antioxidant activities of soybean yoghurt with different percentages (0.5, 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0%) of peanut sprout powder (PSP) contents were investigated. The pH of soybean yogurt with PSP decreased in a time- and dose-dependent manner during fermentation, whereas the titratable acidity increased under the same conditions. The Hunter L value (lightness) decreased while the b value (yellowness) and a value (redness) increased as the PSP concentration in soybean yogurt increased. Prior to fermentation, the sugar content of the soybean yogurt increased as the PSP level increased, but the contents decreased as fermentation progressed. Meanwhile, the viscosity of the soybean yogurt increased during fermentation, and the lactic acid bacteria population was higher than that of the control. The sensory properties, including the flavor, color, taste, and overall acceptability, of the soybean yogurt containing 0.5 and 1% PSP, respectively, were higher than those of other tested yoghurts (with 0, 2.0, and 3.0% PSP contents). The antioxidant activity of the soybean yogurt significantly increased at the PSP concentrations of over 1.0%. These results suggest that the addition of PSP has beneficial effects on the quality and functionality of soybean yogurt, and that the addition of 1.0% PSP is the most suitable for manufacturing soybean yogurt.

The chlorination pattern of naphthalene vapor when passed through a 1 cm particle bed of 0.5% (mass) copper (II) chloride (CuCl2) mixed with silicon dioxide (SiO2) was studied. Gas streams consisting of 92% (molar) N2, 8% O2 and 0.1% naphthalene vapor were introduced to an isothermal flow reactor containing the CuCl2/SiO2 particle bed. Chlorination of naphthalene was studied from 100 to 400 °C at a gas velocity of 2.7 cm/s. Mono through hexachlorinated naphthalene congeners were observed at 250 °C whereas a broader distribution of polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs) including hepta and octachlorinated naphthalenes was observed at 300 °C. PCN production was peak at 250 °C with 3.07% (molar) yield, and monochloronaphthalene (MCN) congeners were the major products at two different temperatures. In order to assess the effect of a residence time on naphthalene chlorination, an experiment was also conducted at 300 °C with a gas velocity of 0.32 cm/s. The degree of naphthalene chlorination increased as a gas velocity decreased.
