According to the Marine Traffic Safety Law, revised in 2009, Marine Traffic Safety Audit is introduced to secure the safe navigation, to prevent the marine accident and to maximize the efficiency of the port. In this audit system, marine traffic safety assessment is the most important scheme because the primary purpose of the audit system is to identify potential risk elements affecting safe navigation. Even though the reliability of audit result depends on the selection of assessment models, there are no independent assessment models for Korean coastal waters and most of models used in Korea currently are developed by foreign countries. Therefore, the development of the independent assessment model for Korean coastal water is required. This study, prior to the development of independent assessment model, aims to provide a basic data by comparing two foreign assessment models in Ulsan port area with marine accident statistics data.
This paper details the maritime accidents that occurred in the Philippines from 1972 to 2010. Firstly, it describes the general maritime situation in the country. It was followed by the traffic and safety infrastructure and the prevailing weather in the archipelago. The third section deals with the accidents' statistics and their geographical locations which is further sub-divided into three regions. It is grouped according to 10-year period. This paper describes the actual maritime situations, the pertinent national regulations, the inter-agencies policies and their safety regimes. It illustrates the shipping environment in the country including the maritime aids and infrastructure and the on human element factors.
In this letter, the effect of quality factor on center frequency deviation in miniaturized coupled line bandpass filter (BPF) with diagonally end-shorted at their opposite sides and lumped capacitors is theoretically analyzed. The miniaturized BPF of a two-stage structure with two types of quality factors in standard CMOS process was designed and manufactured at 5.5 GHz. The die area of BPF was 1.44×0.41 mm2. The measured center frequency of BPF with a quality factor of 4.9 was deviated from 5.5 GHz to 4.7 GHz. The one with 14.8 was shifted to 5GHz. The theoretical and measured results validate that quality factor influences the center frequency shift of BPF.
With the development of mechatronics technology in the transporter industry, the electric power assisted steering (EPAS) system has many advantages compared to the hydraulic system. Many manufacturers are developing and applying EPAS systems to improve the performance of the transporter. Using the HILS system developed in the paper, an adaptable EPAS system was developed for real transporter. It was installed in a real, KIA Rio, and tested. Results indicated outstanding performance. Therefore, the developed EPAS can be applied via HILS system.
In this paper, a foggy-degraded image restoration technique with a physics-based degradation model is proposed for the measurement system. When the degradation model is used for the image restoration, its parameters and a distance from the spreader to the camera have to be previously known. In the proposed image restoration technique, the parameters are estimated from variances and averages of intensities on two foggy-degraded landmark images taken at different distances. Foggy-degraded images can be restored with the estimated parameters and the distance measured by the measurement system. On the basis of the experimental results, the performance of the proposed foggy-degraded image restoration technique was verified.
Suspended and sinking particles were collected in austral summer during ODP Leg 119 to the Indian Ocean sector of the Antarctic Ocean. Field work was carried out at four sampling sites in Prydz Bay. Two of these sites were located in the Outer Bay, and two in the Inner Bay. At the four locations, a total of ten deployments of a sediment trap array were made. The concentrations of chlorophylls and their degradation products both in suspended and sinking particulate matter in Prydz Bay were analyzed using HPLC. Chlorophylls a and c were the dominant algal pigments both in suspended and sinking particles. Because of the abundance of fecal pellets at Site 740, the mean fluxes at 200 m averaged 6 fold greater than that at 50 m. This implies that a dense swarm of zooplankters, presumably large copepods and/or salps, may "feed and excrete" mainly in between 100-200 m depths at this site, closest to land in Prydz Bay. Interestingly, The flux of phaeophorbide a was generally similar in magnitude to that of chlorophyll a throughout the study areas. This is an evidence that materials escaping from near-surface regions in austral summer derive mainly from the gazing of zooplankters. "New production" from sediment-trapped CHL pigment fluxes in Prydz Bay was estimated using f-ratio of 0.15, ranging from 520 to 1,605 μgC m-2 day-1.
The purposes of this study were to analyze the effects of a marine leisure exhibition event(MLEE)'s appraisal attributes on visitors' satisfaction and rep-visit intention and thus provide fundamental information that facilitates developing effective marketing and operational strategies for a MLEE. In order to accomplish such purposes, this study employed a survey with a total of 300 visitors to a MLEE hosted by G Province. Questionnaires were developed on the basis of related studies and modified to reflect the study context. Then, such questionnaires were verified to be valid and reliable through content validity, factor analysis and internal consistency analysis. Valid 286 questionnaires were analyzed with correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis on significance level of .05. Following findings were derived from current study. First of all, the appraisal attributes of a MLEE had a significant effect on visitors' satisfaction and among them only the factor of event program had a unique relation with the levels of satisfaction. In addition, the appraisal attributes of the MLEE also had a significant effect on visitors' rep-visit intention behavior and among them event program, transportation and employee factors had unique relations with the performance variable in order. In conclusion, all the research hypotheses that had been set up through previous studies were confirmed in this study.
The forecasting of container volume which is the basis of port logistics facilities expansion has a great influence on development of an port. Based on this importance, various previous studies have presented methodology on container volume forecasting. The results of many previous studies pointed out the limitations of future forecasting based on past container volume and emphasized that more various factors should be considered to compensate this. Taking notice of this point, this study forecasted future container volume by using ARIMA model, time series analysis and System Dynamics (SD) method, a dynamic analysis technique and performed the comparative review with the forecast of the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime affairs. Recently with rapid changes in economic and social environment, the non-linear change tendency for forecasting container traffic is presented as a new alternative to the country.
