Ship's position data obtaining method is one of the very important factor in navigation. Nowadays, GPS(Global Positioning System) using the earth orbiting satellites are equipped and operated for the position finding. Because it provides more precise position information than other equipments and is very convenient for navigator. In this study, it is designed to develop the GPS simulator for everybody being able to practise the GPS operating skill like as navigation planning, navigation calculating etc. And also, it can be operated with personal computer without real GPS receiver. This simulation system is based on the real GPS receiver and built by the visual basic 5.0 program. And it displays the ship's position and navigating information and plots the ship's moving track on the screen in real time according as initial setup data-main engine's rpm, rudder angle, departure position and waypoint.
In general, neural networks are widely used for the category classification of multispectral images. Since the input multispectral images into neural networks we, however, low contrast images, neural networks converge very slowly and are of bad performance. To overcome this problem, we propose a new image enhancement method which consists of smoothing process, finding the main valley and enhancement process. In addition the enhanced images by the proposed method are used as the input of neural networks for the category classification. When the new category classification method is applied to multispectral LANDSAT TM images, we verified that the neural networks converge very lastly and that the overall category classification performance is improved.
Grouping ports in certain region by their characteristics could be used as the principal informations to establish national policy for port development or investment and also to analyze the competitiveness among ports. Currently Korean ports are divided into two groups such as the local port and the designated Port containing foreign trade port and coastal port under the Korean Port Act. This classification seems to be used for port administration as the matter of convenience but some qualitative grouping is needed for research of port-related matters. The aim of this paper is to cluster 28 foreign trade ports as per the similar characteristics by Hard C-Means and to analyze the results of this clustering.
This paper aims to compare tax systems related to shipping companies among German, Norway, the Netherlands, UK and Korea and to identify which country has the most competitive edge in terms of tax burdens. The previous studies of international comparison of shipping competitiveness have been simply concerned with the international comparison of nominal tax rates of some foreign countries with Korea. One of their shortcomings have not fully considered tax systems inherent in the shipping industry, which may produce different conclusions. Having home it in mind, this study has tried to calculate effective tax rates among countries concerned, taking fully into account tax systems of the countries.
Service is the source of firm's competitive advantage in recent years. The importance of service quality in any service industry doesn't need to be disputed. Customers have expected the improvement of the quality of service they receive ,so providers are struggling to meet these expectations. This study aims at finding factors of service quality in passenger transportation. An empirical investigation and the measurement on the perceived Service Quality by customers in the passenger transportation system was carried out. The purpose of this study is to clarify the factors of service quality on the basis of service marketing concept. In order to fulfill the objectives, this paper combines research tools that include both empirical study and documentary research. Data was gathered from 239 passengers by the use of questionnaire. In this study, the established hypotheses were generated on the basis of the service quality evaluation (SERVQUAL) model. Research findings through empirical test are as follows. First, five service quality dimensions in passenger transportation are identical to SERVQUAL dimensions defined by Parasuraman, Zeithaml, and Berry in 1988. Second, demographic segments such as gender and age don't have significant different dimension of service quality. Third, there is no significant difference between groups by experiences such as price level, abroad tour and vehicle type in determinants of transportation service quality.
The purpose of this study is to shed some light on how market orientation, mediators such as employee satisfaction, service quality and commitment, and business performance are related and to offer important managerial implication for managements or marketing practioners in the International logistics service industry.
Because shore(ship) to ship(shore) communication service via INMARSAT pay expensive cost, satellite service typically use two stage service that land users dial up LES(Land Earth Station) for sending or receiving message. In order to send and receive message, land users must maintain online state with LES on dedicated line. Also, two stage INMARSAT communication service must consume long time that processes step by step. In case of large company, they have own communication system, but small companys communicate simple messages with only telex. This paper describes the design and implementation of an integrated communication services via INMARSAT-C. This system uses inexpensive INMARSAT-C for transmission between ship and land. Because this system provides web and E-Mail interface, users send and receive messages easily and quickly. This system provides most users with inexpensive and easy communication facilities between ship and land.
