Identification of the modal properties of a structural system has received much attention over the years because of its importance in structural model updating, structural health monitoring and structural control. This paper presents experimental modal test results such as natural frequencies and mode shapes of a scale model of floating structure. A modal testing is performed on the structure and modal parameters for the structure are extracted from the measured data. The results are compared to a finite element model and the correlation between the measured and analytical modal parameters is investigated.
Overtopping Wave Energy Convertor (OWEC) is an offshore wave energy convertor, which comprises the circular ramp and reservoir. It collects the overtopped waves and converting water pressure head into electric power through the hydro-turbines installed in the vertical duct, which is fixed in the sea bed. The performance of OWEC can be represented by the operating water heads of the device, which depends on the amount of the wave water overtopping into the reservoir. In the present paper, the reservoir with the duct connecting to the sea water are studied in the 3D numerical wave tank, which has been developed based on the computational fluid dynamics software Fluent 6.3. Both the overtopping motion and the discharges of the reservoir are investigated together, and several shape parameters and incident wave conditions are varied to demonstrate their effects on the performance of OWEC.
In order to improve the existing S-57 standard, International Hydrographic Organization(IHO) has developed S-100 standard, a Universal Hydrographic Data Model(UHDM) expanded from ISO 19100 series standard to hydrographic area, and is in the process of its implementation. International Maritime Organization(IMO) has established CMDS based on e-Navigation strategy data standard as International Association of Lighthouse Authorities(IALA) established IHDM based on aids to navigation data standard and each data standard is linked with the S-100 standard. Fundamental concept and core principles of S-100 standard is suitable not only for the development of a wide range of hydrographic data and service production standard, including the next generation ENC, but also the development of product specification of non-hydrographic area. This study has examined the operation principle of S-100 standard and analyzed its implementation process as e-Navigation data in relation with ENC. It also noted the utilization of S-100 standard based e-Navigation and its potential effect via examining the development cases of S-100 standard-based product specification, such as nautical publication, ship reporting and pilot request, digital routing guide, tide and water level transmission and other important data cases of e-Navigation field.
According to the climate change and the improvement of income level, floating building on water has been emerging as a strong alternative. This study was intended to suggest some reference materials of sustainability for new floating building projects. The concept of sustainability and floating building was investigated, and 3 realized projects and 3 planned projects were reviewed in terms of sustainability. Sustainable features of the sample projects can be summarized as recycled and relocatable usage, adoption of various renewable energy techniques, installation of self-supporting plant, application of modular system and others like new material & open layout. Sustainable features need to be developed more and more in detail and applied to many types of floating buildings.
Due to rapid growth of economy in the world, which results into shipping goods flow one place to another in large volumes, the competition becoming more intense among ports. Shanghai port and Ningbo-Zhoushan port are the two most important ports in the Yangtze River Delta and have the same economic hinterland, inevitably there is a heated competition between the two ports. This paper using the approach of SWOT to analyze the issue of competition and cooperation between the two ports, and then makes an analysis of their Co-opetition strategies by employing the analyzing methods based on the Game theory. Finally, it puts forward some strategies to enhance the cooperation between the two ports.
Since 2000, S. Korea is building yachts through government supported localization, cooperation between industry and educational organizations, or partnerships with foreign firms but the yacht building has yet only accomplished trial manufactured ships and one-time production. Because of a lack of mass production, the industry assesses the domestic technical skills to an average 50~60% of developed countries and its market share is less than 1% in the world. In addition, domestic marine equipment is heavily depending on imports and the industry is experiencing shortage of technology and experts, small-sized companies, insufficient industry and educational organizations' cooperation networks, inadequate legislation and policies, deficient domestic market vitalization, and scarce international information. Thus, this study focuses on the alternative plans to strengthen competitiveness and to cope with problems in the southeast marine leisure equipment industry.
This study evaluates how activation plans presented by previous research are perceived by employees in the ship supply industry by sample surveys. Another objective of this study is to also assist in the selection of effective activation plans. It is becoming more and more difficult for the Port of Busan to strengthen its competitiveness in the ship supply industry by maintaining the status quo. Much research extending the scope of research subjects in the port logistics industry indicates that the development of the port logistics industry is very important for creating new value for the Port of Busan. The results shows that improvement in the retail structure and government support had a significantly positive correlation between the importance and necessity of the ship supply industry activation.
