Objectives of this study were to identify the hotspot for displacement of the on-line water quality sensors, in order to detect illicit discharge of untreated wastewater. A total of twenty-six water quality parameters were measured in sewer networks of the industrial complex located in Daejeon city as a test-bed site of this study. For the water qualities measured on a daily basis by 2-hour interval, the self-organizing maps(SOMs), one of the artificial neural networks(ANNs), were applied to classify the catchments to the clusters in accordance with patterns of water qualities discharged, and to determine the hotspot for priority sensor allocation in the study. The results revealed that the catchments were classified into four clusters in terms of extent of water qualities, in which the grouping were validated by the Euclidean distance and Davies-Bouldin index. Of the on-line sensors, total organic carbon(TOC) sensor, selected to be suitable for organic pollutants monitoring, would be effective to be allocated in D and a part of E catchments. Pb sensor, of heavy metals, would be suitable to be displaced in A and a part of B catchments.
Transplantation of stem cells, such as mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), is a promising strategy for treating several types of intractable disorders. Mechanistically, it could not only replace damaged cells by direct contribution, but also establish an anti-inflammatory or immunomodulatory microenvironment. However, the cellular mechanisms underlying molecular and biological properties of stem cells during ex vivo expansion and also after transplantation in pathological environments remain largely elusive. We recently developed the cyanoacrylamide-based coumarin derivatives (Fluorescent real-time thiol tracer; FreSHtracer*) reversibly react with glutathione for monitoring of glutathione levels in living stem cells. These probes revealed that glutathione levels are heterogeneous among subcellular organelles and among individual cells and show dynamic changes and heterogeneity in repopulating stem cells depending on oxidative-stress or culture conditions. Importantly, a subpopulation of stem cells with high-glutathione levels exhibited increased self-renewal and migration activities in vitro and showed improved therapeutic efficiency in treating asthma. Furthermore, employing a novel combination of longitudinal intravital confocal fluorescence imaging and microcystoscopy in living animals, we investigated the distributions and properties of transplanted multipotent MSCs derived from human embryonic stem cells at single-cell resolution in real-time by performing confocal imaging of bladder tissues in a rat model of IC/BPS for up to 6 months post-transplantation. These novel real-time monitoring strategies demonstrate the novel molecular insight for maintaining stem cell functions and also enhance understanding of the in vivo behaviors of the engrafted stem cells, which is crucial to determine the efficacy and safety of stem cell-based therapies. This strategy may facilitate the translation of various stem cell-based approaches into clinical practice.
In this study, the odor generated in a livestock farm with 500 heads of finisher breed in 661 m² was monitored during 6 months using a gas sensor, a wired / wireless communication system and database server. Odor unit, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, and total volatile organic compounds (TVOC) were monitored using the gas sensor. To show the tendency of odorous substances generation, the odor concentration was shown in the graph on a monthly and daily basis. Among the analysis items, the maximum generation of odor was found to be closely related to the generation of hydrogen sulfide. Through observing the daily and monthly trends of odor substances, it was found that each substance was a useful indicator for monitoring odor, because ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, odor and TVOC were increased and decreased in a similar pattern. The odors were highest in the hours of the early morning (00:00-05:00), the evening (18:00-23:00), and the morning (06:00-11:00) in a day. After the use of the microbial agent was discontinued in autumn (October), anaerobic digestion of the manure in a pit proceeded and the amount of hydrogen sulfide increased. Therefore, despite a slight decrease in ammonia production, the odor unit level did not decrease after October but rather was somewhat increased. In the future, the use of the odor monitoring system is expected to improve the efficiency of odor sources management.

As the development environment is changing with the development of information communication technology, the systems that were used by each service became used with integration. In the process of integrating from existing legacy systems to new system, it should be smoothly integrated or shared, however, it cannot help holding existing technology or component due to significant cost burden for conversion.
In this paper, it was not only classified by types with analyzing the various elements that make up legacy system but an approach and monitoring system were developed to each type. After System application results, data's information generated in each process is provided to other system in real time, so that it has not only secured the work efficiency and reliability but also it is made possible by integrating data in various formats for efficient data management, rapid search and tracking to history. With real-time monitoring system developed in this study, It can be very useful in a variety of industries which require real-time monitoring of distributed legacy system data.
A number of plating companies have been exposed to the risk of fire due to unexpected temperature increasing of water in a plating bath. Since the companies are not able to forecast the unexpected temperature increasing of water and most of raw materials in the plating process have low ignition temperature, it is easy to be exposed to the risk of fire. Thus, the companies have to notice the changes immediately to prevent the risk of fire from plating process. Due to this reason, an agile and systematic temperature monitoring system is required for the plating companies. Unfortunately, in case of small size companies, it is hard to purchase a systematic solution and be offered consulting from one of the risk management consulting companies due to an expensive cost. In addition, most of the companies have insufficient research and development (R&D) experts to autonomously develop the risk management solution. In this article, we developed a real time remote temperature monitoring system which is easy to operate with a lower cost. The system is constructed by using Raspberry Pi single board computer and Android application to release an economic issue for the small sized plating manufacturing companies. The derived system is able to monitor the temperature continuously with tracking the temperature in the batch in a short time and transmit a push-alarm to a target-device located in a remoted area when the temperature exceeds a certain hazardous-temperature level. Therefore, the target small plating company achieves a risk management system with a small cost.
There has been a huge progress in semiconductor manufacturing processes such as reduction of the design rule(DR) and development of multi-processes. And, semiconductor industries have steadily extended its business and market share by reducing the design rule(DR) and enlarging the wafer size as well as by resolving many difficult technical problems through various noble approaches in order to reduce the production cost and to improve the yield. In semiconductor manufacturing, there is a significant difference in the number of memory chips produced according to the wafer size, wafer yield, and the level of the design rule even though the same number of wafers were put to the manufacturing process. So, almost all semiconductor manufacturing companies reach the conclusion that the enlarged size of wafer should be adopted in order to enhance the productivity and reduce the production cost. Thus, in this study, we investigate the specifications of the key functions and capabilities of the necessary modules in the yield analysis and improvement system required to acquire the stationary wafer yield with considering the 450mm wafer manufacturing system. Then the results of this research will be helpful for constructing the advanced yield analysis and improvement system called Real-Time Fault Monitoring and Detection (RTFMD) system.
The process of berthing/deberthing operations for entering/leaving vessels in Busan northern harbor was analyzed and evaluated by using an integrated VTS(vessel traffic service) system installed in the ship training center of Pukyong National University, Busan, Korea. The integrated VTS system used in this study was consisted of ARPA radar, ECDIS(electronic chart display and information system), backup(recording) system, CCTV(closed-circuit television) camera system, gyro-compass, differential GPS receiver, anemometer, AIS(automatic identification system), VHF(very high frequency) communication system, etc. The network of these systems was designed to communicate with each other automatically and to exchange the critical information about the course, speed, position and intended routes of other traffic vessels in the navigational channel and Busan northern harbor. To evaluate quantitatively the overall dynamic situation such as maneuvering motions for target vessel and its tugboats while in transit to and from the berth structure inside a harbor, all traffic information in Busan northern harbor was automatically acquired, displayed, evaluated and recorded. The results obtained in this study suggest that the real-time tracking information of traffic vessels acquired by using an integrated VTS system can be used as a useful reference data in evaluating and analyzing exactly the dynamic situation such as the collision between ship and berth structure, in the process of berthing/deberthing operations for entering/leaving vessels in the confined waters and harbor.
This paper describes on the real-time tracking of ship's dynamic behavior by AIS information in the coastal waters. The AIS data was received at a land station by using the antenna of AIS receiver mounted on the rooftop of the laboratory, Pukyong National University (PKNU), Busan, Korea, and stored as a NMEA format of serial output sentence of VDM(VHF Data-Link Message) and displayed on the ENC(Electronic Navigational Chart) of a PC-based ECDIS. In this study, the AIS receiver was mainly used to obtain the dynamic information that is necessary to evaluate and track the movement situation of training ship "KAYA" of PKNU in the coastal waters. The change of position with time for the ship turning under the rudder angle of port 30˚ was correctly tracked with the turning circle of 940 m in diameter on the ENC of a PC-based ECDIS. Then, the dynamic information of the AIS system was updated every 6.29 seconds under the turning situation for the speed of 10.9 knots and every 21.65 seconds under the situation running at the speed of 11.05 knots on the straight line route of 155˚, respectively. In case of AIS target tracking in the inshore zone behind large topographical obstructions, such as mountain and apartment buildings, the update rate of dynamic information was irregularly changed by the existence of land obstacles. However, the position tracking by AIS information under the situation existing no sea obstructions was achieved in real or near real-time and the instant presentation of course alternations for the ship was correctly monitored by using a PC-based ECDIS. From these results, we concluded that the PC-based ECDIS technology and methodology combined with the AIS information can be easily extended and applied to the surveillance and management for the fishing operation of fishing vessels in the coastal zone and in the EEZ fishing grounds.
This paper describes on the real-time monitoring of net setting and hauling process for fishing operations of Danish seine vessels in the southern waters of Korea as an application of a PC based ECDIS system. Tracking of fishing process was performed for the large scale Danish seine vessel of G/T 90 and 350 PS class using the fishing gear which the length of net, ground rope, head rope and sweep line including warp in both sides were 86m, 104m, 118m and 3,200m, respectively. Tracking information for net setting and hauling process was continuously recorded for 23 fishing operations performed on November and December, 2003. All measurement data, such as trawl position, heading, towing course and past track which was individually time stamped during data acquisition, was processed in real time on the ECDIS and displayed simultaneously on the ENC chart. The results indicated that after the separation of a marker buoy from Danish seiner, the averaged running speed of vessel and the averaged setting period while shooting the seine on the course of diamond shape to surround the fish school in the 23 fishing operations were 8.3 knots and 13.1 minutes, respectively. And with the maker buoy taken on board, the averaged running speed of vessel and the averaged towing period while closing the seine on the straight route was 1.0 knots and 47.0 minutes, respectively. After the closing stage of hand rope, the hand rope was towed by the averaged speed of 2.2 knots during the 13.0 minutes. The average area for route of diamond shape swept by sweep lines of the seine in 23 fishing grounds was 709,951.6m2. Further investigation is also planed to provide more quantitative tracking information and to achieve more effective surveillance and control of Danish seine vessels in EEZ fishing grounds.
This paper describes on the real-time monitoring of dredging information for grab bucket dredger equipped with winch control sensors and differential global positioning system(DGPS) using electronic chart display and information system(ECDIS). The experiment was carried out at Gwangyang Hang and Gangwon-do Oho-ri on board M/V Kunwoong G-16. ECDIS system monitors consecutively the dredging's position, heading and shooting point of grab bucket in real-time through 3 DGPS attached to the top bridge of the dredger and crane frame. Dredging depth was measured by 2 up/down counter fitted with crane winch of the dredger. The depth and area of dredging in each shooting point of grab bucket are displayed in color band. The efficiency of its operation can be ensured by adjusting the tidal data in real-time and displaying the depth of dredging on the ECDIS monitor. The reliance for verification of dredging operation as well as supervision of dredging process was greatly enhanced by providing three-dimensional map with variation of dredging depth in real time. The results will contribute to establishing the system which can monitor and record the whole dredging operations in real-time as well as verify the result of dredging quantitatively.
It is considered that taking off such thought that our country is safe from earthquakes, the development of technologies to prevent secondary calamities due to seismic loads such as a fire and gas explosion is urgently required. The objective of this study is to establish the level of indices for determining the danger level of structures, which can be applied to a real-time seismic monitoring to minimize auxiliary damages of structures due to earthquakes. First, the cumulative absolute velocity (CAV) closely related to the concept of averaged velocity of a certain earthquake wave and the spectral intensity (SI) values based on the velocity response spectrum are addressed to specify a certain level of indices for a real-time seismic monitoring. Then, the CAV and SI values are calculated with the artificial seismic waves that are produced based on the design response spectrum of a structure specified in the seismic criteria of KBC 2005. Finally, the early warning, shut-down of facilities and escape stages are proposed by determining the level of indices which are compared with the results of existing studies.
