        The objectives of this study were to select the seeds of Cucurbitaceae and Solanaceae genotypes in terms of superior with bioactive compounds content and to inform sophisticated data for developing the high value-added products. We evaluated to aspects of the antioxidant activity, polyphenol content, and flavonoid contents in seeds from two vegetable family. We used in the Cucurbitaceae(watermelon, squash, bitter gourd, and sponge gourd) and Solanaceae(hot pepper, sweet pepper, and egg plant) the total 408 genotypes. In Cucurbitaceae, polyphenol content of watermelon and squash genotypes were ranged 19.9-343.8 and 6.1-81.2 mg·100 g-1 DW, respectively. The polyphenol content of watermelon genotypes was 12% among all genotypes over 160 mg·100 g-1 DW. The mean of flavonoid content in watermelon and squash genotypes represented 80 and 41.3 mg·100 g-1 DW, respectively. In Solanaceae, flavonoid content of hot pepper genotypes was ranged 64.4-472.5 mg·100 g-1 DW, with an average of 165.0 mg·100 g-1. The 23 hot pepper genotypes were classified over 90% antioxidant activity. The antioxidant activity of sweet pepper was ranged 35.9-90.3%, and 23% of all genotypes represented 82% antioxidant activity. The polyphenol and flavonoid content of egg plant was ranged 38.1-642.0 mg·100 g-1 DW and 14.2-1217.0 mg·100 g-1 DW, respectively. In addition, we selected that 8 egg plant with the superior genotypes for antioxidant activity, polyphenol, and flavonoid content. Results revealed that there was significant variation of antioxidant activity and bioactive compounds contents in both vegetable famaily. In addition, we suggested that selected genotypes seeds with high contain bioactive compounds will be more efficiency to develop natural value-added products.

        There has been growing concern over the emissions of formaldehyde and VOCs from automotive interior materials, as these could have an important impact on the in-vehicle air quality (IVAQ) of automotive vehicles. Odor along with VOCs refers to the automotive interior smell emitted directly or indirectly from any part of an automotive interior, based on human olfactory senses and a comfort evaluation of vehicle quality. The objective of this paper is to compare the odor intensity using GC/MS analysis method and odor sensory test in accordance with ISO 12219-2. For the compounds having low odor threshold value and high VOC concentration, it was found that there was the same tendency in each field of odor whether the instrument analysis method or the odor sensory test method was used.

        This study investigated the chemical composition of Petasites japonicus (S. et Z.) Maxim essential oil. During the period 2011~2013, P. japonicus (S. et Z.) Maxim plant was investigated for composition of the essential oil. Chemical composition and characteristic compounds of the essential oils from the aerial parts of the plant according to the crop year studied. The essential oils consisted of sesquiterpene compounds, which were the most abundant components. Samples collected in 2011 were found to be richer in oxygenated sesquiterpenes, while samples collected in 2012 and 2013 were richer in diterpene alcohols and sesquiterpene hydrocarbons, respectively. Ninety-two compounds were identified in the P. japonicus (S. et Z.) Maxim essential oil of 2011, and caryophyllene oxide (20.49%), β-caryophyllene (10.28%), β-bisabolene (6.80%), and alloaromadendrene (6.50%) were the major compounds. Seventy-four compounds were identified in the plant essential oil of 2012, and phytol (17.22%), α-farnesene (15.31%), α-caryophyllene (9.93%), and β-caryophyllene (6.12%) were the major compounds. Ninety-two compounds were identified in the plant essential oil of 2013, and α-farnesene (22.42%), α- caryophyllene (21.49%), pentadecane (15.35%), and germacrene (5.70%) were the major compounds. The content of most of the chemical constituents varied significantly with different harvesting time. The content of α-caryophyllene and caryophyllene oxide was increased significantly from 2011 to 2013. The content of α-caryophyllene and isocaryophyllene was decreased significantly from 2011 to 2013.

        Per capita nail-products use and airborne VOCs emission in four techniques of nail care (full coat coloring, UVgel polish, repair silk, and acrylic overlay) are estimated in this study. These assessments were carried out in a sealed test chamber using artificial hand and nails. A polish remover and a gel cleanser as cleanser and acrylic liquid as solvent were the most commonly used nail products in all 4 of the nail care techniques. Acetone, isopropyl alcohol, and methanol, which are major components of a polish remover, were commonly detected in all nail care techniques while acetone was detected the most. In addition to these airborne VOCs, a variety of other components such as ethyl acetate, cyclohexane, and toluene were identified in full coat coloring technique. In the process of UV-gel polish care technique, the main airborne VOCs were caused by solvents and were not involved in the curing process of UV gels (base gel and top gel) and gel bonder. In the case of repair silk nail care techniques, which generated the most VOCs, the total amount of VOCs detected was about 1,118.8 ± 359.6 mg/capita. Of the VOCs, butane (862.2 ± 283.9 mg/capita), which is contained in glue dryer, represented the largest share. In the process of acrylic overlay nail care technique, ethyl methacrylate (EMA), which is the basic element of acrylic, and highly toxic methyl methacrylate (MMA) were detected at 396.6 ± 42.3 mg/capita and 141.8 ± 8.2 mg/capita, respectively. The per capita data is very useful in designing a ventilation system for environmental improvement of a nail shop and setting a health care policy for nail artists and customers.

        The consumer products in the living environments include a variety of chemicals which could be harmful in the human health. The aim of this study was to assess the inhalation exposure and risk for cleaning workers who had used bleach in the university. A total of 81 cleaning workers took part in this study. Frequency and amount of cleaning bleach during working hours were investigated by questionnaire interviews. Exposure assessment was used by the exposure algorithm and exposure factors. Used cleaning bleaches were analyzed to identify the ingredients, and risk by exposure was assessed by separating as carcinogen and non-carcinogen substances. The results of chemical substances and the questionnaire were used to assess the exposure factors, and the inhalation doses were calculated through inhalation exposure algorithm. According to the questionnaires for the cleaning workers, frequence of cleaning bleach was 11.66 ± 7.21 times per month. And average usage time and amount per cleaning work were 30.78 ± 36.00 minute and 20099.53 ± 12998.60 mg, respectively. Risks for carcinogenic substances of formaldehyde, ethylbenzene, and chloroform were exceeded by 56.79%, 27.16%, and 82.72% as the reference value of 10−6, respectively.

        Salined water electrolysis is an electrochemical reaction to produce chlorine gas and sodium hydroxide as major products from salined water. Perfluorinated sulfonic acid (PFSA) ionomers and their derivatives have been usually used as polymeric electrolytes with high sodium ion selectivity and barrier property to chlorine and hydrogen gases. In spite of their industrial importance, there is little information on the relationship of their chemical features and electrochemical performances. In this study, membrane requirements for salined water electrolysis are described and fundamental and electrochemical characteristics of PFSA and hydrocarbon ionomer materials are compared each other. The obtained results are expected to provide membrane material design factors for low energy-consuming salined water electrolysis.

        노화와 재해 등으로 인한 인간의 치명적인 간 부전 문제를 해결하기 위한 대안 중의 한 축으로 교차분화 기법을 적용한 induced hepatocyte (iHep)연구가 진행되고 있지만, 분화효율은 극히 낮다. 본 연구에서는 돼지 섬유아세포에 교차분화기법을 사용하여 piHep을 만들고, 소분자 화합물(A83-01)의 첨가에 따른 교차분화의 효율개선을 시도 하 였다. piHep의 유도를 위해서 세가지 간 전사 인자를 [human hepatocyte nuclear factor 1 alpha (hHNF1A), human hepatocyte nuclear factor 4 alpha (hHNF4A), human forkhead box protein A3 (hFOXA3)]를 렌티바이러스를 이용하여 체세포에 도입하였다. 3가지 유전자가 도입된 세포는 기본 배양액으로 hepatocyte induction medium (HIM)을 사용하였고, 여기에 A83-01을 첨가군과 미 첨가군(대조군)으로 나누어 교차분화를 유도 하였다. 그 결과 대조군에서 4주 후에 불완전한 간세포의 형태가 낮은 빈도로 나타났지 만, A83-01 처리군은 도입 2주 후부터 epithelial-like cell의 형성을 통해 점점 다핵을 가 지는 성숙한 piHep(명확한 핵, 다각형의 세포질)의 특성이 확인되었다. 간세포로의 기능 적 분화를 검증하기 위해 albumin (ALB)과 transferrin (TF)의 mRNA의 발현을 real-time PCR을 통해 분석하였다. A83-01 처리군에서 ALB와 TF의 발현이 교차분화 4 주차까지 증가되었다. 섬유아세포 표지 인자인 vimentin의 발현은 A83-01의 처리와 상관 없이 모두 감소되었다. 대조군과 달리 A83-01처리군은 piHep의 유도를 위해 사용된 3가 지 간 전사인자들 중 HNF4Α와 FOXA3에서 교차분화 후 4주차까지 endogenic expression 을 보였다. 결론적으로 간세포 교차 분화의 효율 개선을 위해 사용된 A83-01은 돼지 섬 유아세포의 내재된 간 특이적 전사 인자들을 활성화시켜 간세포의 분화를 촉진함을 확인 할 수 있었다.

        About half of the South Korean population lives in the three major metropolitan areas, which are Seoul, Kyeonggi and Incheon. Among this group, more than 50% live in apartments. In this study, the relationship between the concentration of indoor VOCs and environmental factors was investigated in metropolitan apartments in the occupation stage. The maximum concentration of TVOC (total volatile organic compounds) was monitored in spring season. Among the identified VOCs, toluene was present in the highest amount, followed by terpene, aldehyde and hydrocarbon. Due to the specific indoor sources, the I/O ratio of terpene (e.g. d-limonene, α-pinene, and β-pinene) was relatively higher than that of the others. The construction year and length of residence were revealed as the environmental factors having the greatest influence on the concentration of indoor benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene, styrene and hydrocarbon, and the relationship was statistically significant. The floor and size of the apartment influenced the levels of indoor nonanal. The relationships between individual VOCs showed highly positive correlations that are statistically significant. Through the relationship study, it was found that factors including newly built apartment, short period of time after moving in, high floors and small floor area were the main factors inducing an increased concentration of indoor VOCs in apartments.

        In the current study, oxidative decomposition of a volatile organic compound was investigated at room temperature and pressure. The experiment was carried out in lower ethylene concentration and with various higher gas flow rates. The reactor has 7 different compartments in which the reaction takes place independently. Plasma was generated inside each compartment by the application of alternating current (AC) voltage. 5 wt% manganese loaded and 5 wt% silver loaded 13X zeolite were used as catalysts. Bare zeolite showed higher ethylene decomposition efficiency than Ag loaded and Mn loaded zeolite. Ozone concentration was increased slightly while increasing the SIE, reached a maximum and started decreasing. Ag loaded zeolite also showed similar decomposition efficiency, but the concentration of ozone was greatly lowered.

        This study investigated the chemical composition of Cirsium japonicum var. ussurience Kitamura essential oil and the quantitative changes of major volatile flavor compounds according to the harvesting season. The essential oils obtained by the method of hydrodistillation extraction from aerial parts of C. japonicum var. ussurience Kitamura were analyzed by GC and GC-MS. Sixty-four volatile flavor compounds were identified in the essential oil from C. japonicum var. ussurience Kitamura harvested in May 2012; hexadecanoic acid (49.31%) was the most abundant compound, followed by 6,10,14- trimethyl-2-pentadecanone (13.72%), phytol (13.40%) and 9-hexadecenoic acid (4.16%). Eighty-three compounds were identified in the essential oil from the plant harvested in October 2012; phytol (40.56%), hexadecanoic acid (17.69%), 6,10,14- trimethyl-2-pentadecanone (13.71%), and caryophyllene oxide (4.15%) were the most abundant compounds. Types and levels of volatile compounds from different harvesting seasons varied. The essential oil composition of C. japonicum var. ussurience Kitamura harvested in the spring and autumn was characterized by higher contents of aliphatic fatty acid, diterpene and sesquiterpene, respectively.

        Facilitated olefin transport membrane, containing positively charged silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) as olefin carriers dispersed in poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP), leads extremely high separation performances for propylene/propane mixtures. In this study, as representatives of electron withdrawing nitrobenzene compounds, 1,2-dinitrobenzene (DNB) and 3,4-dinitro toluene (DNT) were used for PVP/AgNPs membranes. The correlation between the surface charge density of AgNPs and the separation performance was investigated with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). A fairly good linear correlation between the surface charge density and the separation performance was confirmed, which meant that the positive charge density on the surface of AgNPs may be a key factor in determining the separation performance of facilitated olefin transport membranes.

        본 연구에서는 분리막 공정의 가장 큰 단점인 파울링을 저감시키기 위해 상용 나노막 표면을 실란 화합물로 개질하여 내오염성 및 내염소성이 향상된 복 합막을 제조하고자 하였다. 각기 다른 말단 관능기를 포함한 실란 커플링제로 (3-Mercaptopropyl)trimethoxysilane (MPTES), Octyltrimethoxysilane (OcTES), (3-Aminopropyl)trimethoxysilane (APTMS)을 사용해 표면을 개질하였다. 실란을 표면에 그래프팅 시킨 결과 막 표면의 친수화 증가로 인한 개질막의 투과 수량 향상과 내오염성 및 내염소성에 미치는 영향을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 AFM, XPS, FT-IR을 통해 제조된 막의 특성을 분석하였다.

        본 시험은 질산염함유 식물 추출물을 이용하여 in vitro 반추위 발효성상 및 반추위 메탄 발생에 미 치는 영향을 알아보기 위해 수행되었다. 공시재료는 감자, 당근, 배추, 상추 및 시금치 추출물을 사용하 였으며, 발효 기질은 2mm로 분쇄된 timothy 0.3g을 사용하였다. In vitro 실험은 조사료(timothy) 및 배합사료를 6:4의 비율로 급여한 반추위 cannnula가 시술된 한우 암소에서 채취하였다. 반추위액과 McDougall’s buffer를 1:2의 비율로 혼합한 발효액을 0.3g timothy와 식물 추출물이 담긴 50mL serum bottle에 혐기상태로 20mL 분주한 뒤, 39℃에서 9, 12, 24, 48시간 동안 발효하였다. pH는 발 효 시간이 증가함에 따라 점점 감소하며, 6.31~6.96으로 정상범위였다. 건물 소화율은 9시간 배추 추 출물구에서 유의적으로 낮았고, 암모니아 농도는 감자, 배추, 상추 추출물구에서 대조구에 비해 첨가구 에서 유의적으로(p<0.05) 낮았으며, 반추위 미생물 성장량은 발효 24시간대의 당근 추출물구에서 높았 다(p<0.05). Acetate와 propionate 농도는 대조구에 비해 첨가구에서 유의적으로 낮았으며(p<0.05) butyrate 농도는 첨가구간에 발효시간별로 각각 다른 양상을 보였다. 총 가스 발생량은 발효 12시간 및 24시간대에서 배추, 상추, 시금치 추출물구에서 유의적으로(p<0.05) 낮았으며, 메탄 발생량은 감자, 배 추, 시금치 추출물구가 대조구에 비해 유의적으로(p<0.05) 낮았고, 이산화탄소 발생량 또한 첨가구에 비해 대조구에서 유의적으로(p<0.05) 낮았다. 결과적으로 본 시험에 사용된 5종의 질산염 함유 식물 추 출물은 반추위 발효에 악영향을 미치지 않으면서 메탄저감 효과를 나타내었다. 특히 배추 추출물은 반 추위내 메탄발생을 저감시킬 수 있는 식물추출물로서 가능성이 높은 것으로 사료된다.

        This study aims to understand the correlation between odor intensity and dilution factor using the Air Dilution Olfactory Method, which is suggested in the Standard Method of Odor Compounds, by measuring odor intensity and dilution factor for fatty acids and i-butyl alcohol. For the measurement, 18 panel members were selected through a panel test, and odor intensity and dilution factor by substance produced from the selected panel were estimated. The estimation showed that the correlation of odor intensity with dilution factor for a fatty acids and i-butyl alcohol can be reasonably expressed by the equation I = A·log D + 0.5 (I : odor Intensity, D : dilution factor, A : material constant). The material constant was in order of propionic acid 2.0709, n-butyric acid 1.6006, n-valeric acid 1.3369, i-valeric acid 1.182, i-butyl alcohol 1.4326. The geometric average of increased dilution factor for the 5 compounds is about 4.8 time, 3.0 time for propionic acid and 7.0 tme for i-valeric acid due to odor intensity 1 increasing. It is suggested that the result of this study could be used as a base data for research on measures to improve the regulation standards for complex odor concentrations at a boundary sites in operation.

        This study attempts to investigate the impact of pollution by VOCs at schools located around Shihwa national industrial complex. Schools around the Shihwa national industrial complex were divided into two categories based on location, with five schools located near the industrial complex and five schools located near housing development. Samples of the indoor air and the outdoor air were collected from each classified school and analyzed to evaluate the impact of the industrial complex on each school through a comparison and to find the correlation between them. In combination with this, this study attempted to conduct comparative evaluations of the schools in which there might be relatively higher indoor air pollution since new construction and extension or remodelling had recently been carried out with other schools. The samples collected from 10 places in total were analyzed, using GC/MS. TVOCs, and individual component of VOCs, were detected in the schools near shihwa national industrial complex at higher levels than in the schools nearby housing development. TVOCs were detected at the schools in the industrial complex st levels of 166.5 μg/m3, that is, about 1.5 times higher than the level detected at the schools outside the industrial complex. TVOCs were found in the indoor air of the schools that had been extended or remodelled less than 3 years ago at levels of 188.8 μg/m3, while in schools where more than 3 years had passed since extention or remodelling they were found at levels of 97.5 μg/m3, meaning they were about 1.9 times higher in schools in the first 3 years.

        The increases of industrial and technological development and human activities have disturbed the balance of natural nitrogen (N) circulation. These phenomena have induced that large amounts of N are to be present in excess in air, soil and water environment. We investigated the effects of excess of reactive nitrogen (Nr) compounds on soil and water environment ecosystems through literature and case studies, and suggested the strategy of mitigating the acidification in soil and water ecosystems. Nr moves to air, soil and water media, can be converted to different types, and interacts with other chemical compounds. As an efficient N management plan, the evaluation (application of monitoring and safety index) and the chemical restoration (research and development) of the acidification in soil and water environment ecosystems are required to minimize the effects of Nr as well as policies to regulate the various emission sources and amounts of Nr.

        This study aims to evaluate the relationship between concentration and odor intensity using the odor sensory method for 4 types of fatty acid compounds and i-butyl alcohol. For the measurement, 18 panelists were selected based on several criteria through a panel test. Panelists chosen for their closely similar sensitivities provided more reproducible values. The estimation showed that the correlation of the concentration with odor intensity for the 5 compounds, including the fatty acid compounds and i-butyl alcohol can be reasonably expressed by the Weber-Fechner equation. Notably the standards regulation fatty acid concentrations are very strict, and the butyl acetate standards are very loose. It is suggested than the results of this study can be used as basic data for research on measures to improve the regulation standards on complex odor concentrations on site boundaries in operation, as well as the correlation between concentration and odor intensity for the designated foul odor substances, and their characteristics.

        This study was carried out to investigate the effect of malodor and VOCs reduction that could be achieved through the installation of a vapor recovery system (VRS) in a gas station. It was revealed that the reduction efficiencies of malodor by running VRS were about 93% around the oil feeder, 32% in the office and 45% in the site boundary. Specifically, it was remarkable that reduction efficiencies of BTEX over 90% were recorded through VRS operation. In addition, the results of continuous monitoring of THC around the oil feeder device provided good evidence of the inhibition of oil mist diffusion after running VRS.

        본 연구의 목적은 배추과 종자들의 고 함유 바이오 활성 화합물 배추속 및 무속의 유전자원들을 선발 하고, 이를 활용한 고부가가치 기능성 상품 개발을 위한 기초 자료를 제공하는데 있다. 배추속(양배추, 녹색꽃양배추, 콜라비, 꽃양배추) 및 무속(무) 유전자원 총 92점을 대상으로 라디컬 소거능을 이용한 항 산화활성과 폴리페놀 및 플라보노이드 함량을 측정하였다. 배추속 및 무속 종자들의 항산화활성과 플라 보노이드 함량의 평균간에는 유의차가 있었다. 배추속 변종들간에도 항산화활성, 폴리페놀 및 플라보노 이드 함량이 통계적으로 유의차가 있었다.‘Tropic Sun Plus(B8)’양배추 등 총 22점의 배추속 품종 및 계통을 항산화활성이 우수한 품종 및 계통으로 선발하였고 시판 무종자인‘Taeyang(R43)’과 육성 계통인‘13-FM 136-5×13-FM 138-1(R33)’의 항산화활성이 각각 142% 및 157%으로 실험한 유전자 원들의 종자 중 가장 높았다. 폴리페놀의 함량이 높은 배추속 유전자원은‘Tropic Sun Plus(B8)’양배 추 등 총 10점이였고, 국립원예특작과학원 채소과에서 육성한 무 계통인‘13-FH 20-1(R4)’및 ‘13-FH 20-2(R5)’의 폴리페놀 함량이 높았다.‘Megaton(B14)’양배추 등 총 14점의 배추속 품종 및 계통을 플라보노이드 함량이 높은 품종 및 계통으로 선발하였다.‘13-FH 20-2(R5)’무의 플라보노이 드 함량은 1,000mg·100g-1이상으로 플라보노이드 고 함유 종자로 활용가치가 높은 계통이였다. 이상 의 결과로 항산화활성이 높고 바이오 활성 화합물의 함량이 높은 유전자원들을 선발하였고, 유전자원들 을 종자 기능성 가공품으로 활용하여 부가가치를 높히는데 기여할 것이라 판단되었다.
