        In order to examine the possibility that oil seed rape could be used as a forage fodder crop and to select the most suitable variety of forage rape at the southern area of Korea, two varieties of oil seed rape currently grown for oil production and six introduced varieties of forage rape with relatively high yield and high nutritional value were grown at the same condition and their nutritional value were observed. Generally, rape was considered as a useful forage fodder crop with high content of crude protein and low contents of NDF, ADF, hemicellulose, cellulose and lignin. Differences in mean values of the above characters between two groups of rape were not statistically significant. Velox showed significantly higher content of crude protein and significantly lower contents of NDF, ADF, hemicellulose, cellulose and lignin compared with other varieties of forage rape. Rape was relatively high in IVDMD compared with other forage fodder crops, and forage rape was more or less higher in IVDMD and DDMM than oil seed rape. Velox was the highest in IVDMD and DDMM among the varieties of forage rape in this experiment.

        Seeds of burcucumber were treated with accelerated aging, cold-stratification, and light quality illuminated during desiccation to enhance their germination and seedling emergence. The germination was increased by aging and cold-stratification although the latter treatment showed greater effectiveness than the former one. In the combined treatment of aging 6 days at 45~circC and cold-stratification, the germination was promoted under longer period of cold-stratification to reach nearly 100% in 3 week cold-stratification on the ninth day from sowing. In the sequentially combined treatment of aging, cold-stratification, and light quality during 24 hour desiccation at 35~circC , no-stratified seeds showed the highest rate in red light treatment but the lowest in far-red light. This implies that the phytochrome action run during the desiccation of imbibed seeds. The red light exposure during drying for the cold-stratified seeds after aging accelerated the germination even more than the dark treatment and germinated 100% on the next day of sowing. It is concluded that the sequential treatment of aging, cold-stratification, and red light illumination during desiccation can highly promote percentage and speed of burcucumber seed germination.

        There are some international standards and organization controling the quality characteristics of varieties and seeds such as UPOV, OECD, ISTA, AOSA. The National List system to check variety performance such as quality characteristics of plant varieties and seeds was established by each countries. The UPOV (International Union for the Protection of New varieties of Plant) regulates the requirement of plant variety protection that is distinctness (D), uniformity (U), stability (S) (here in after called DUS), Novelty and Denomination, and some quality characteristics are used to examine the requirement of plant variety protection by each crops. OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation Development) seed scheme regulates the seed certification for seed trade between countries. ISTA (International Seed Testing Association) and AOSA(Association for Official Seed Analyst) regulates the seed analysis standard and methods. Most of the countries in Europe has the National List system, which check the value for cultivation and use(VCU), that is to say, variety performance such as yield, quality and stress to environment. All the seeds should be enlisted in the National List before sell the seed in their country. All the quality characteristics checked variety performance are for instance, amylose and amylopectin content in rice, molting quality, β -glucan, protein in barley, protein and sugar content in soybean, sugar and amylopectin content in corn etc. Conditions for the protection of new variety of plant are DUS. Quality characteristics may be the important characteristics and used to check DUS in crop by crop. It is very important to develop a new characteristics and establish standard method fur examine the VCU and DUS test for each crop.

        Soybean is one of the most important sources of protein and oil in the world. Recently, emphasis has been laid on the chemical composition of soybean seeds for the processing soybean foods. Improvement of soybean components has been expected to improve food-processing quality for the processed soybean products such as soymilk and various edible ingredients as well as fur the traditional soyfoods. In Korea, soybean breeding research programmes have been focused on the quality of the products derived from soybean with yield stability, and some new modified soybean varieties haying good food-processing quality were developed recently. So the efforts of establishing standard and standardization of products in soybean are important. Three main categories should be considered in view of soybean seed quality; the marketing value such as grain size, shape, and appearance; the eating and processing value such as dehulled ratio, water absorption rate, and benny flavor; the nutritional value such as protein, lipid, and carbohydrate contents. And the new frontiers in research are looking at the functional nutrients in soybeans and how to improve them. In case marketing value, mainly the appearance is evaluated, therefore, each country has an application of standard related to quality. Each determination of standard class, heat-damaged kernels, splits, and soybeans of other colors is made on the basis of the grain when free from foreign materials. But processing value and nutritional value for standardization were not studied in detail till now. In addition, soybean has potential roles in the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases, most notably cancer, osteoporosis, and heart disease. The functional nutrients include a protease inhibitor, phytic acid, saponins, and isoflavones, etc.. It is believed that standardization of soybean quality should perform to overcome the difficulties, relatively high price of domestic soybean products has weakened the competitive power, in the market related to WTO. So, we should focus on further research into the evaluation and establishment of quality-standard in soybean.

        In order to determine the optimum harvest time for the seed production of inbreds and hybrids in silage corn, the ears of sib-pollinated 'KS5', 'KS7rhm', and 'Ga209' and cross-pollinated 'KS5' ~times 'KS6' (Suwon19), 'KS7 rhm' ~times 'KSl17' (Suwonok), and 'Ga209' ~times 'DB544'(Kwanganok) were harvested at the one-week intervals from 4 to 10 weeks after silking. The optimum harvest time for the seed production for 'KS5', 'KS5' ~times 'KS6', 'KS7 rhm', and 'KS7rhm' ~times 'KS117' was 7 weeks after silking considering both emergence rate and plumule growth in cold test. Although earlier harvested seeds showed similar germination rate as the seeds harvested at the optimum time at 25~circC , their emergence rate were lower in cold test. Seed weight and α -amylase activity of earlier harvested seeds were lower compared to those of seeds harvested at the optimum time, while leakage of total sugars and electrolytes were higher. However, the later harvested seeds showed lower germination rates at 25~circC and emergence rates in cold test probably due to the lower α -amylase activity although they showed increased seed weight and reduced leakage of total sugars and electrolytes. In contrast, the emergence rate of 'Ga209' and 'Ga209' ~times 'DB544' in cold test increased up to 10 weeks after silking probably due to the increased seed weight and α -amylase activity and reduced sugar and electrolyte leakages during the germination. The cross-pollinated F1 hybrid seeds showed higher germination and emergence rates at 25~circC and in cold test, and higher plumule growth and α -amylase activity compared to those of sib-pollinated inbreds.

        참깨 재배조건에 따른 생육과 수량 및 품질 차이를 구명하고자 수행한 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 비닐하우스 재배가 노지 재배에 비해 개화기가 빠른 반면 성숙기가 늦어 생식생장기간이 길었다. 또한 경장과 착삭부위장이 매우 길었다 한편 주당삭수가 많고 천립중이 무거워 수량이 57%가량 많았다. 2. 비닐하우스 재배에서는 6월 8일 파종구가 5월 9일 파종 구에 비해 착삭부위장이 길었다. 그리고 주당삭수가 많고 천립중이 무거웠다. 또한 착삭 상단부위 등숙율이 높고 착삭 중, 하단부위 천립중이 무거우나 수량은 비슷하였다. 3. 노지 재배에서는 5월 9일 파종구가 6월 8일 파종구에 비해 유효분지수와 주당삭수가 많았다. 그러나 착삭 상, 중단부위의 등숙율이 낮고 천립중이 가벼워 수량은 비슷하였다. 4. 종실의 L* 값은 재배조건에 따라 차이가 없었고 a* 값은 비닐하우스 재배에서 높았으나 b* 값은 노지 재배에서 높게 나타났다 그리고 파종기간 색차(δ E*ab)는 노지 재배에서 가장 높게 나타났다. 5. 비닐하우스 재배에서는 수용성 성분인 세사미놀 배당체 함량이 높고, 노지 재배에서는 세사민과 세사몰린 함량이 높게 나타났다.

        Soybean seeds were treated with blue, red and far-red lights for 0, 6, 12, and 24 hours during 24-hour imbibition before culture for 6 days. The soybean sprouts raised were classified by their hypocotyl lengths; normal (>4cm), abnormal (<4cm) and non-germination, and their lateral roots, hypocotyl diameters and component dry weights were measured. Red light treatment and dark imbibition reduced the abnormal soybean sprouts more than far-red and blue light treatments, meaning that the former treatments produced more commercial sprouts. The lateral roots were more formed in blue light and dark imbibition than the other light treatments, but were completely blocked by any light treatment lasted during the whole imbibition. Although any light quality treatment did not influence their primary root lengths, blue light one lengthened the hypocotyl more than the others treated during the imbibition, and far-red light enlarged its diameter. Despite this morphological change, component, total or economic yield was not significantly different among the light quality treatments during the imbibition.

        Drink and tea-bag were processed with safflower seed powder. Drinks were processed with 90C hot water extraction. Yield, soluble solid, pH and centrifugation residue of drinks were ranged in 79.2~89.3%, 0.6~0.99%, 5.98~6.40 and 1.00~1.18, respectively. Sensory score of overall acceptance in drinks were highest at that of enzyme treated drink. Tea-bag was processed with roasted safflower seed powder, alone(1.2g) and the mixtured tea-bags were consisted of persimmon leaves, pine needle and angelica gigas powder in same amount, respectively. Teas were prepared with extraction at 80C water for 2 min. Soluble solid and sensory evaluation score of teas were the highest when the tea was processed with safflower seed alone.

        현재 국내에서 시판되고 있는 어린 묘 중에서 가장 판매주수가 많은 것이 고추 묘로서 부가가치를 더욱 높이기 위하여는 발아와 균일성을 향상시켜야 할 것이다. 본 연구의 목적은 발아와 균일성 향상에 효과가 있는 priming 처리중의 광질처리와 발아온도에 따른 발아율의 변화를 추적하여 고추 공정묘 생산에 필요한 정보를 제공하고자 실시하였다. 대명고추 [(주)중앙종묘]와 왕고추[(주)동부한농종묘]를 공시품종으로 파종 전처리는 priming 제 [KNO3; Ca(NO3)2], 농도 (0, 150, 300 mM), 처리기간 (0, 6, 12일), 광질 (적색, 초적색, 청색, 암)과 발아과정에서는 온도 (15, 25℃ 항온, 25/15℃ 변온)를 달리하여 발아과정에서는 백열등으로 조사하면서 시험을 수행하였다. 시험결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. Priming제로서는 KNO3보다는 Ca(NO3)2가 발아율을 향상시켰으며 최종발아율과 T50은 공시품종 모두 Ca(NO3)2로 6~12일간 priming 처리하는 것이 처리하지 않는 것보다는 각각 증가되거나 짧아지는 경향을 보였다. 2. 발아온도 25℃ 항온에서 파종 후 5일까지는 암상태에서 priming한 것에서 발아율이 가장 높았으나 파종 7일 이후에는 초적색광을 조사하면서 priming할 경우 가장 낮았다. 3. 발아율은 25℃ 항온에서 가장 높고 15℃ 항온에서는 현저히 억제되었으나 25/15℃ 변온에서의 최종발아율은 25℃ 항온에 근접하거나 동일한 것으로 나타났다. 4. 각 공시품종의 발아율은 priming 유무, priming 중에 처리되는 광질과 발아온도에 따라 변화되었으며 발아온도를 달리할 경우 파종 7일 후부터 priming중 적색광 처리시 발아율이 가장 높아 priming중의 광질효과도 발아온도의 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다.

        The effect of water deficits on soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] could appear on seed quality through changes of morphological plant characteristics. Two Korean genotypes, Hwangkeum (determinate growth habit) and Muhan (indeterminate growth habit), were used to examine the influences of treatment stage and method of water deficit during reproductive growth period on yield and seed quality of soybean. Water deficit at R5 or R6 stages was as damaging to seed quality as double water-deficit treatments at R2+R5 or R2+R6. However, seed from double water-deficit treatment tended to have lower oxidation-reduction potential compare to the corresponding single water-deficit treatment. In comparison with Muhan, Hwangkeum had significantly greater oxidation-reduction potential value. Seed yield per plant in both genotypes depended greatly on seed yield of branches. However, the proportion of number of branch seed to total seed umber in Hwangkeum was increased as the water deficit was applied during later reproductive stage, whereas, in Muhan the proportion was lower. Water-deficit treatments including the single and double water-deficit treatments and non-stressed treatment were able to be classified into five groups for Hwangkeum and four groups for Muhan based on the influences on yield components, number of pod, number of seed, and single seed weight, using principal component analysis. In both genotypes, R2+R5 water-deficit treatment decreased number of pod and seed, but increased single seed weight.         현재 국내에서 시판되고 있는 어린 묘 중에서 가장 판매주수가 많은 것이 고추 묘로서 부가가치를 더욱 높이기 위하여는 발아와 균일성을 향상시켜야 할 것이다. 본 연구의 목적은 발아와 균일성 향상에 효과가 있는 GA3, 처리중의 광질처리와 발아온도에 따른 발아율의 변화를 추적하여 고추 공정묘 생산에 필요한 정보를 제공하고자 실시 하였다 대명고추 [(주)중앙종묘]와 왕고추 [(주)동부한농종묘]를 공시품종으로 파종 전처리로는 GA3처리농도 (0, 0.01, 0.1, 1.0 mM), 처리기간 (0, 1, 2, 3일), 광질 (적색, 초적색, 청색, 암)과 발아과정에서는 온도 (15, 25℃ 항온, 25/15℃ 변온)를 달리하여 치상 후 9일까지 백열등으로 조사하면서 발아시험을 수행하였다. 시험결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 최종발아율은 GA3 처리농도간에는 전체적으로 차이가 없는 경향이었으나, T50은 증류수에 침지하는 것보다 GA3를 처리할 경우 단축되었다. 2. 발아온도 25℃ 항온에서는 최종발아율은 GA3 처리유무간에 차이가 없었으며 초기발아율은 GA3 처리로 증가되었던 반면, 치상 후 5~7일에서는 암상태에서 가장 낮았다. 3. 공시품종 모두 발아율은 25℃ 항온에서 가장 높고 15℃ 항온에서는 현저히 억제되었던 반면 왕고추는 25/15℃ 변온에서의 최종발아율은 25℃ 항온과 거의 동일한 것으로 나타났다. 4. 광질은 발아온도 25℃ 항온, 25/15℃ 변온에서 처리간 차이가 없었으나, 15℃ 항온에서는 GA3침지중 가하여지는 적색광 또는 암처리에서 치상 후 5일 이후부터 발아율을 증가시켰다.
