Even though the writer is an average person who adapted to the process of making a nation in each period successfully, he caused conflict with his family and neighbors constantly. His conflicts were caused by his attitude about the ideology of making a nation. It is modernity that influenced his conscience. It's affect on his conscience caused conflict with his family. He was the centre of power in the village in every period and is a typical self-made person. But his life was not happy and he became thought of as a troublesome person. The objective of this research was to analyze the determinants of demand for residential settlements in rural societies. A significant aspect of the demand analysis was to consider depopulation classification as a moderating variable with a view to its role as an essential dividing factor of socioeconomic characteristics and physical environments of the areas of concern. The data collection for analysis was divided according to types of depopulation into the three categories of less developed, stagnated, and developed areas. For the cause and effect analysis between the residential demand and factors of settlement, the ordered probit model was applied. Significant determinants of settlement demand unfolded according to depopulation types. In the case of less developed areas, residential demand was affected significantly by the factors of daily life convenience and public facilities. Key settlement demand determinants of stagnated regions included the aspects of basic natural environment, daily life convenience and education. Meanwhile, key settlement demand determinants for developed areas included education and agriculture economic aspects. The importance-performance analysis was also applied to a set of settlement characteristics of rural communities to figure out the settlement factors requiring urgent endeavor to improve.
The aim of this study is to analyze the green-tourism centrality considering spatial interaction using Gravity Model and social network method. The degree centrality and prestige centrality were applied as green-tourism centrality index. The rural amenity resources and human resources were counted as attraction factors, and a distance among villages was used as friction factor in gravity model. The weights of rural tourism amenity resources were calculated using the analytic hierarchy process(AHP) method and applied to evaluate green-tourism potentiality. The distance was measured with the shortest path among villages using geographic information system(GIS) network analysis. The spatial interaction from gravity model were employed as link weights between nodal points; a pair villages. Using the spatial interaction, the degree-centrality and prestige-centrality indices were calculated by social network analysis and demonstrated possibility of developing integrated green-tourism region centered on high centrality villages.
Allotment gardens with log house in rural area as a rural growth tool are able to adapt to current market mechanisms by communication and promotion techniques. It is important to know what and how allotment garden's users seek their benefits to market segmentations. The primary purpose of this study was to segment and profile the benefits of allotment garden's potential users so as to provide a better understanding of allotment garden in Korea. A self-administered survey was obtained from 298 allotment gardens users in the study area. Four distinct segments were identified based on the benefits; relaxer(23.7%), educator(21.9%), want-it-all gardener(42.3%), and grower(12.2%), and these were profiled with respect to socio-demographics and civic garden-related features. We suggest that the relaxers are target market of allotment gardens with log house because they have willingly intented to pay a higher rent.
This study aimed to apply a methodological approach, 'social network analysis' to a case study for the understanding of relational structure among stakeholders related to green tourism development. By doing so, this study argued that it is important to identify stakeholder's network structure to help green tourism planners develop collaborative relationship among stakeholders. This study identified the stakeholders regarding a community-based festival development in the southern area of Korea, and investigated two types of networks among them: decision-making power relational and intimate network. Interviewer-administrated survey and in-depth interview were employed for data collection. The data was analyzed by SPSS (version 10.0) and Net-MinerII (version 2.5.0), and by constant comparison method. The result revealed that low different groups of the stakeholders were separated in the intimate networt and that the festival organizational body was not connected with other stakeholders in the decision-making power relational network. The existence of separated groups and weak relationship among the stakeholders appeared to relate to age-group differences, and different views on the festival between the stakeholders.
The purpose of this study is to investigate a causal relationship between the mode of production and change of rural society. While dominant theories of social change have stressed variation of contingencies and periodical contexts, this theoretical paper drives a new insight paralleling diverse theoretical arguments of each mode of production with rural and urban changes. Investigating the drifts of intellectual ideologies of the mode of production, we get through diverse paradigm shifts of the production accumulation and its trigger effects on rural change. More specifically, the present study investigates change of rural society by way of investigating such fluctuations of societal changes as ancient society, slavery society, feudal society, industrial society, post-industrial society, and information society. We find that transportation and communication technologies have had a key role in the changes, however, the effects of the technologies on social changes have been different between rural- and urban-society. While we take it for granted that flexible accumulation in post-industrial society and time-space compression and informatization in information society will reduce developmental gap between rural- and urban-society, we also found that there have been big differences of actual application of the technologies between theory and reality in each era of mode of production.
The purpose of this study is to investigate an epistemological recognition of rural society. This study suggests an epistemological reorientation for rural society circumscribing diverse theoretical thoughts as well as empirical evidences. Traditional theoretical perspectives in urban-rural dichotomy envisioned by modernistic idea have regarded rural society as a premodern and underdeveloped society. The perspectives also have regarded city as a symbol of civilization and development. These perspectives thought of the function of rural society as a periphery that can survive as a back-up for urban-oriented prosperity. This study shows that these idea have been concentrated on agricultural expansionism and productivism which do not function in the post-modem societies my longer. The present study argues that these modernistic idea give little understanding of implicit value of rural society. Owing to the functional change of rural society which is quite omnipresent in the 21'st centuries in the world, the present study argues that the value of rural society should work even in the market society that has traditionally been regarded as an working-mechanism in urban society. The present study drives a new insight showing that rural renaissance is an explicit existence instead of a phenomenal one.
The objectives of the study are to improve techniques for social impact assessment and to suggest their measuring methods to apply in small scale rural development projects. Population, residence, industries, and traffic volumes were selected to measure the social and economic impact assessment of Seongeup agricultural water development project in Jeju Province. Existing data gathering methods were used to estimate the changes of population and traffic volumes. Interview schedule for villagers was applied to estimate the residents' satisfaction to living environments. Interview schedule for experts was applied to estimate agricultural productivity and land price. The results of social and economic impact assessment show that there will be considerable changes in living environments, agricultural productivity, and land price. On the contrary, the project will make little impacts on the changes of population, em-ployment, and traffic volumes.
