Carbon black is a material in the form of fine black powder obtained by incomplete combustion or pyrolysis of hydrocarbons, and is composed of 90-99% carbon, and the rest is composed of hydrogen and oxygen. In the event of an emergency during the manufacture of carbon black, the generated tail gas should be safely discharged through an emergency line to prevent fire, explosion, and environmental pollution accidents caused by the tail gas. If the pressure continues to rise, the pressure control valve shall operate and the rupture plate shall be ruptured sequentially and the tail gas shall be discharged to the vent stack through the emergency line. As an emergency emission system, even if some untreated substances in the tail gas are released into the atmosphere, they are lighter than air, so it is safe to discharge them to a safe place through the Vent Stack. If the gas pressure is rising or worse, it is discharged from the Vent Stackine, and discharging fuel.
This study uses FMECA (Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis) and HAZOP (Hazard and Operability), which are widely applied in industrial areas, among risk assessment methods, and applies them to the same system. While FMECA evaluates system failure conditions and analyzes risks, HAZOP evaluates the system comprehensively by evaluating operational risks that may occur based on system parameters. According to data released by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, as of December 2021, the length of roads in Korea is 113,405 km, and the repair of guardrails that have expired must be fixed urgently in terms of traffic safety. Replacing all of these guardrails with new ones requires a very large cost, but if the guardrails are repaired with a vehicle equipped with the G-Save method, carbon emissions are reduced, the repair period is shortened, and great economic benefits can be obtained. However, risk assessment for guardrail coating vehicles has not been done so far. Focusing on this point, this study aims to evaluate the risk of these coating vehicles and describe the results. Finally, we found that the Risk Priority Numbers(RPN) in the FMECA risk assessment were greatly reduced, and 6 risk factors from HAZOP risk assessment and actions were taken.
This study deals with improvement plans and application results to improve the safety of secondary batteries and chargers applied to Tactical Multi-band Multi-role Radio(TMMR), a new military communication equipment. Due to the nature of the portable weapon system, the terminal structure and manufacturing process of the battery and charger were improved to strengthen resistance to vibration and shock generated during movement, and the battery structure was partially changed to secure resistance to mechanical shock generated when the charger was coupled. In addition, retrospective application was completed for all secondary batteries and chargers previously delivered for TMMR, helping the Korean military to operate next-generation radios in a safer environment.
Since cranes are a kind of complex human-machine systems, it is almost impossible to completely secure safety with current technologies. Therefore, managerial interventions to prevent human errors are needed for safely operating a crane. The Occupational Safety and Health law states that cabin-type crane operators should have crane drivers’ licence and crane-related operators (e.g., pendent-type crane operators, slinging workers) should take a special safety training. However, statistics on industrial accidents showed that fatalities due to crane accidents (185 accidents occurred during 2013~2017) were the highest among hazardous machinery and equipment. To effectively control the crane-related accidents, voices of crane workers need to be analyzed to investigate the current status. This study surveyed perceived causes of crane accidents and status of special safety training for crane workers of 387. The survey revealed that 24.3% of the respondents experienced crane accidents and 31.4% eye-witnessed crane accidents. 79% of the respondents pointed human errors such as improper crane operation and improper slinging as the first cause. Lastly, only 16.7% of the respondents took a professional special safety training; but the rest took lecture-based or incomplete education. The findings of the present study can be applied to improve crane-related policies and special safety training systems.
The growth of the online market is accelerating due to the development of technology and the pandemic era. The delivery service through the courier must be used to deliver the ordered goods to the customer through the online market. With the growth of the online market, the logistics market for delivery is also growing. The traffic and environmental problems are emerging as social issues. Urban logistics technology using underground space based on the urban railway developed to improve logistics efficiency in a metropolitan area and a new alternative to environmental problems. This study proposed a plan to secure system safety through safety analysis based on operational concept definition and scenario analysis by applying model-based perspective analysis to the system under development.
PURPOSES : In this study, the flatness of a sidewalk surface was evaluated by measuring the vibration acceleration experienced by wheelchair users passing the sidewalk using a walking measure. The objective of this study is to derive a linear equation for converting the vibration acceleration of a sidewalk surface measured using a walking measure into vibration acceleration of a wheelchair.
METHODS : To this end, field measurements were obtained. Twenty sites with different sidewalk surface materials were selected to measure the vibration accelerations of the walking measure and wheelchair. A regression analysis was conducted with the measured root mean square value of the vibration acceleration, and a linear equation expressing the walking measure and wheelchair vibration acceleration was derived.
RESULTS : The regression analysis was conducted by inputting the vibration acceleration of the wheelchair into the Y-axis and that of the walking measure into the X-axis. Thus, a linear equation between the walking measure and wheelchair acceleration could be derived. Further, linear equations could be derived and applied based on the situation using various standard walking measures and wheelchairs. These equations could be used to convert the vibration acceleration of the walking measure into that of the wheelchair. Substituting the converted vibration acceleration into the comfort level specified in ISO 2631-1 was expected to indicate the flatness of the sidewalk.
CONCLUSIONS : This study confirmed that a linear equation for the two vibration accelerations could be derived by measuring the vibration accelerations of the walking measure and wheelchairs of 20 different sites. The vibration acceleration measured using the walking measure could be converted into that of the wheelchair using this linear equation. In addition, the flatness of the sidewalk could be evaluated by measuring the vibration acceleration of the walking measure using this linear equation.
When the heat flux on the heating surface following changing heat condition in the boiling heat transfer system exceeds critical heat flux, the critical heat flux phenomenon is going over to immediately the film boiling area and then it is occurred the physical destruction phenomenon of various heat transfer systems. In order to maximize the safe operation and performance of the heat transfer system, it is essential to improve the CHF(Critical Heat Flux) of the system. Therefore, we have analysis the effect of improving CHF and characteristics of heat transfer following the nanoparticle coating thickness. As the results, copper nanocoating time are increased to CHF, and in case of nano-coatings are increased spray-deposited coating times more than in the fure water; copper nanopowder is increased up to 6.40%. The boiling heat transfer coefficients of the pure water are increased up to 5.79% respectively. Also, the contact angle is decreased and surface roughness is increased when nano-coating time is increasingly going up.
The findings were summarized as follows. The safety check by manufacturer showed that 6 of 13 companies are over the average occurrence of defects. It was expected that there would be a difference between manufacturing technology capability and production system of each manufacturer. Consequently, manufacturers should institutionally improve and strengthen certification items for the upward standardization of safety certification before factory. Second, the safety check by year showed that the results of this study accord with those of previous studies on defect time. Consequently, manufacturers should classify the 3-year-old equipment for vehicle-mounted MEWP into a special check subject to do a nondestructive test according to proven results, and also reflect the test in a safety test system to do regular preventive activities of equipment defects. Third, the safety check by part showed that the boom and outrigger parts of vehicle-mounted MEWP have the most defects. Stress concentration resulted in defects as the boom part was most frequently operated in the structural parts for a real work. To prevent this, it is suitable to improve the hardness of boom materials. The outrigger part needs improvement in safety devices with materials. As an outrigger supports the overturning moment of equipment, it is most affected by its load based on the operating radius, resulting in fatigue crack.
