        Introduction and Rationale Research interest in the global and strategic marketing field has been stimulated significantly over the past two decades by the increasing globalization of economic systems and accelerating pace of competition worldwide. The establishment and development of global business operations involves international marketing strategy decisions that can bring substantial economic benefits for both national economies and individual companies. A large number of conceptual propositions and empirical works have examined how firms can derive sustainable competitive advantage from their global and strategic marketing activities and cross-border collaborations. The Special Session aims to uncover and debate on some important empirical, methodological, and theoretical research challenges within the broad domain of global marketing and strategy. Further, it sets to highlight emerging trends and concepts in the field to critically evaluate their potential impact on existing theory development and management practice. Emphasis will be placed on comparing contributions from leading international scholars to stimulate research synergy and collaboration. Specifically, the Special Session will provide a strong base for establishing, maintaining, and developing a dialogue among marketing academics who have interests in the global marketing and strategy phenomena. All panel members specialize in the topic and have published extensively in well-recognized academic journals. All contributors hold a highly international profile and are affiliated to different research institutions. The proposed topic cover important and timely issues in global and strategic marketing which are outlined below.

        This research was conducted to examine procedures in regain management (RM) by professional service firms (PSF) on the basis of an explorative, qualitative research approach for the first time. The authors tried to solve the following research questions: How are endangered and disaffected clients identified, segmented and reasons analysed in PSFs? How can customer reacquisition dialogues be initiated and timed and which reacquisition offers are to be addressed to clients? How should the success of customer reacquisition measures be evaluated? The results from interviews with 30 leading managers show deficits of the PSF in (1) disaffection analysis, (2) regain activities and (3) regain controlling. Optimization approaches are recognized with larger support by the owners, more in-depth client dialog, optimization of internal processes as well as provision of additional financial and personnel resources. The interviewees reported that the owners have not yet been sufficiently sensitized to the regain of customers and that their attitudes and behaviour significantly impact the success of regain management – a factor hardly considered previously.

        Global ecommerce continues to flourish and consumers across the world are constantly connected to the Internet. This poses growing opportunities for the digital transformation of businesses and their expansion to international markets succeeding to reach and engage with potential customers abroad. The objective of this paper is to study the internationalization process of digital enterprises and to explore business challenges and opportunities arising from the use of innovative technologies and tools. More specifically, we aim to review the recent related literature and propose a conceptual framework introducing tools and practices regarding strategy, infrastructure technology and on- line marketing & communication needed to assure increased chances of success when digitally expanding abroad. Each country has specific features associated with the business environment, the penetration of ecommerce, as well as, specific cultural and social characteristics. These peculiarities require specific internationalization strategies and dictate parallel adjustments in IT infrastructure, as well as a suitable digital marketing & promotion that need to be followed which are thoroughly analyzed and can become a valuable tool for digital enterprises.

        Research on service innovation suggests that involving customers in the development of new services is a major contributing factor to the success of new services (e.g. Carbonell et al., 2009; 2012; Melton & Hartline, 2010; 2015; Zhihong et al., 2015). The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of the literature on customer involvement (CI) in new service development (NSD) both offline and online and to identify the major current issues faced by researchers and future research challenges. This paper approaches CI from the perspective of “co-creation for others” (Witell et al., 2011), that is participating in developing services that can benefit other customers. A search was done on three major databases, EBSCO; Emerald, and ScienceDirect, using various keywords (CI; NSD; service innovation; user involvement; co-creation, and customer participation) from 2002 (first CI paper published (Carlborg et al., 2014) to 2016. Relevant studies start with mainly qualitative inquiries whereas in the last 5 years there are more surveys and new types of qualitative research such as netnography and action research. The most important questions addressed are who is involved and how. Various studies investigate the role of different types of customers such as close; lead; ordinary or guided; their characteristics such as proactiveness; knowledge or experience; motives; emotions, or dissatisfaction, and their capabilities such as knowledge absorptive capability or relational capability. Furthermore, the way customers may be involved is analysed from many perspectives including the stages of involvement; the modes and intensity of involvement in each NSD stage (e.g. Melton and Hartline, 2010; Paasi, 2014) as well as the characteristics of effective CI. Moreover, studies in the online environment look at the web based tools for CI such as social media or virtual communities (Ryzhkova, 2012); the nature of customer contributions on social networks (Sigala, 2012); the role of lead users in developing online services (Schuhmacher & Kuester, 2012; Mahr & Lievens, 2012) and the drivers of customer participation in virtual brand communities (Zhilong et al., 2015). Major current issues include which customer or firm actions should be included in each stage and why; what is the role of relationships in effective CI; how we can select customers for NSD and what is the role of virtual environments in CI. Future research challenges include developing guides for customer selection for NSD; analyzing the nature of CI (modes; intensity; types of contributions; customer roles and actions in each stage; communication types and skills); using virtual environments for CI and determining the link of various relationship concepts with CI.

        The challenges faced by the Malaysian shipyard industry had led to the failure of local shipyards in catering to the demand of ship owners. The shipyard industry had recorded the least contribution (1.0%) to the world shipbuilding order book and had caused inconsistencies in the Malaysian shipbuilding ship repair (SBSR) industry’s demand and supply market. The objectives of this study had been to identify the factors that had contributed to the challenges faced by the shipyard industry in Malaysia, and to rank them according to their priorities. The factors of these challenges had been identified by using the cause-and-effect analysis method and were further illustrated in the form of an Ishikawa diagram. Subsequently, an analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method was applied to determine the weightage of the priorities. The results had shown that ‘Market’ (41.66%) had been the most challenging aspect faced by the shipyard industry in Malaysia from all the five factors studied. As such, this research would help shipyard organisations to effectively prioritise these challenging factors as a way of sustaining their businesses and affecting the economic contribution from the shipyard industry.

        교정은 형사사법의 최종적 단계로 형의 집행과 교정교화라는 두 개의 목표를 동시에 수행해야 하는 임무를 띤 정부 행정조직이다. 교정본부는 만 오천 명의 직원과 5만7천 명의 수용자를 가지고 있는 대규모 조직으로 타 외청의 소속직원 수와 비교할 때 외청 단위 조직으로 4번째에 해당한다(법무부 내부자료, 2018). 범죄예방과 사회 안전을 책임지는 경찰과 소방공무원은 모두 독립적인 외청으로서 조직, 예산을 독립적으로 운용 하며 정책을 수립하고 집행하고 있는데 비해서 유사한 목표를 가진 교정본부는 법무부 내 보조기관으로서 법무부내 정책 우선순위에 들어가는 것도 어려운 상황이며, 역동적으로 움직이는 범죄환경의 변화와 교정에 대한 다양한 요구에 능동적으로 대처하지 못 한다는 지적을 오랫동안 받아왔다. 학자들은 20여년동안 한결같은 목소리로 교정청 독립의 필요성을 제기하고 있고 국회에서도 교정조직 독립을 위한 개정안 발의 등의 시도가 계속되고 있다. 교정본부에서도 학계와 국회와 협조하여 조직의 독립을 위한 동력을 만들어내기 위해 노력하고 있다. 전, 현직 교도관을 대상으로 한 “향후 10년간 교정 영역에서 일어날 가장 중요한 과제나 동향”에 대한 질문에서도 다수의 응답자들이 교정청 독립을 최우선(이백철, 2017:40)으로 꼽았을 만큼 교정인들에게는 가장 큰 염원이다. 본 연구의 목적은 첫째, 지금까지의 학자들의 논의를 검토함으로써 교정조직의 독립 필요성에 대한 논거를 정리한다. 둘째, 국회에서 시도된 교정청 독립을 위한 법안발의의 경과를 확인하고 셋째, 교정조직 독립의 논거로 제시된 교정수요의 급증과 전문성에 대해 당위론적으로 진술하기 보다는 실제적으로 교정수요가 얼마나 증가하였는지 그리고 교정의 전문화 경향은 어떻게 나타나고 있는 지를 제시해 보고자 한다. 마지막으로 학계와 국회, 그리고 조직내부에서의 노력에도 불구하고 여전히 교정청 독립이 실현되지 못하고 있는 이유가 있는 것인지를 정책학적 분석틀을 가지고 평가해 보고자 한다. 이를 통해 교정(교화)청의 필요성과 교정의 미래 발전방향에 대해 한번 더 생각하고 고민해 보는 기회를 제공하는 의미를 찾을 수 있을 것이다.

        본 연구는 OECD 국가와 우리나라 간호인력의 현황 및 변화추이를 비교분석하여 간호인력의 수급 방향 을 제시코자 한다. 2000년부터 2015년까지의 자료를 분석한 결과, OECD 국가들은 크게 두 가지 방식 을 취하고 있었다. 첫째, 면허인력(11.6%) 보다는 활동 간호인력(19.2%) 증가에 초점을 맞추고 있었고, 활동 간호인력을 증가시키기 위한 방법으로 면허인력을 증가시키기 보다는 병상 수를 꾸준히 감소 (-15.8%)시켰다. 그 결과 간호인력의 높은 노동강도와 이직의 주요 요인으로 작용하는 ‘100병상 당 간호 인력 수’가 증가(33.7%)하였고, 이는 활동 간호사의 증가로 이어졌다. 둘째, OECD 국가들은 양질의 간 호서비스 제공을 위해 활동 간호인력 중 ‘간호사 대비 간호보조 인력의 비율’을 20% 수준으로 유지해왔 다. 반면, 우리나라는 면허 간호인력(62.2%)과 병상 수(148.0%)를 지속적으로 늘려 왔다. 그 결과 ‘100병 상 당 간호인력’이 OECD 국가 중 가장 적고, ‘인구 1000명 당 활동 간호사수’는 OECD 평균(6.93명)의 50% 이하 수준(3.1명)에 머무르고 있다. 그리하여 ‘간호사 대비 간호조무사 비율’은 OECD 평균의 2배 이상인 상황이다. 따라서 향후 간호인력 수급 정책의 방향은 양적 확대―간호대학의 입학정원 증원을 통한―보다는 간호인력 보유와 적정 간호인력 구성에 초점을 맞추어야 할 것으로 사료된다.

        Recently, the migration of refugees has been drastically increasing and became a global issue which indirectly affects the shipmasters, authorities and shipowners during rescue operations. The objective of this paper is to study the challenges or difficulties in rescuing refugees at sea from the perspectives of shipmasters, authorities and shipowners in Malaysia. In this study, the key challenges faced by these three groups of individuals are collected and classified based on the primary data reviewed. The interview sessions were conducted with selected expertise and the data collected are analyzed based on the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) or precisely the pair-wise comparison methods. Through the calculations, the challenges are ranked from the most important challenges to the least important challenges. Furthermore, the data is analyzed by using expert judgments focusing on the relatively most important challenges faced by the three groups of individuals. Finally, the most important challenge faced by shipmasters is the safety of ships and crews, while for authorities, the most important challenge faced is delays in the initiation of rescue operations. For ship-owners, the most important challenge faced is time sensitive cargo loss. Ultimately, two suggestions have been proposed to encounter the most important challenge faced by these groups.

        The concept of deep borehole disposal (DBD) for high-level nuclear wastes has been around for about 40 years. Now, the Department of Energy (DOE) in the United States (U.S.) is re-examining this concept through recent studies at Sandia National Laboratory and a field test. With DBD, nuclear waste will be emplaced in boreholes at depths of 3 to 5 km in crystalline basement rocks. Thinking is that these settings will provide nearly intact rock and fluid density stratification, which together should act as a robust geologic barrier, requiring only minimal performance from the engineered components. The Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board (NWTRB) has raised concerns that the deep subsurface is more complicated, leading to science, engineering, and safety issues. However, given time and resources, DBD will evolve substantially in the ability to drill deep holes and make measurements there. A leap forward in technology for drilling could lead to other exciting geological applications. Possible innovations might include deep robotic mining, deep energy production, or crustal sequestration of CO2, and new ideas for nuclear waste disposal. Novel technologies could be explored by Korean geologists through simple proof-of-concept experiments and technology demonstrations.

        In order to achieve its vision of an empowered society and a growing economy by December 2018, Zimbabwe, through its ZimAsset economic blueprint (Government of Zimbabwe, 2013) has planned to resuscitate and recapitalise the local industry. Like other nations, Zimbabwe’s industrialised economy is growing quickly and becoming one that embraces information communication technologies. Mathematics education and mathematical literacy feature high on the list of factors that can lead to growth in industry and a vibrant economy. This study therefore sought to explore the challenges and prospects of secondary mathematics education and industry synergies for socio-economic transformation in Zimbabwe. Data were generated from semi-structured interviews carried out in a previous study with 28 conveniently selected parents and with two parents in this current study. Open-ended questionnaires (questaviews) were given to ten purposively selected employers, two conveniently chosen science and mathematics education inspectors and ten randomly selected secondary school mathematics teachers in Gweru District, Zimbabwe. It was found that parents and employers strongly voiced the importance of mathematics in industry and for the country at large and offered suggestions on curriculum changes which they wished to be implemented. Employers were unhappy with the mathematics education system in Zimbabwe, which focused more on theory and less on practical work, attachment and fieldwork. It was concluded that shortages of material and financial resources, negative attitude of stakeholders and lack of a proper policy were the challenges that could hinder implementation of mathematics education-industry synergies. Some of the recommendations were that the Government should come up with a national policy on a mathematics curriculum that links classroom-gained knowledge with students’ careers because it will lead to the economic, scientific and technological development of the country. It was also recommended that employers work together with the teachers involved in students’ assessment and attachment and help students produce goods and artefacts for sale and the sustenance of their communities. This would be in line with constructivism and education with production principles.

        The purpose of this study is to develop a multi-dimensional scale measuring consumers’ perceived challenge in shopping fashion products online, and to verify its validity and reliability. Relevant literature is first reviewed to identify possible dimensions of perceived challenge. Next, Study 1 is conducted in order to explore the dimensions empirically and to see whether the dimensions that emerged were consistent with prior findings. A total of 190 responses to an open-ended question was qualitatively analyzed by using content analysis. The findings of Study 1 generate 26 items reflecting four dimensions (i.e., product knowledge, previous experience, website functionality, and product availability), which correspond to the dimensions suggested in literature review. Study 2 is subsequently conducted to refine the items so that the perceived challenge scale establishes cross-validation, convergent validity, discriminant validity, reliability, and predictive validity. A total of 238 responses is quantitatively analyzed by using exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modeling. In the results of Study 2, the perceived challenge scale is found to consist of a total of 16 items reflecting three dimensions: E-commerce Challenge (corresponding to Previous Experience reported in Study 1), Retailer Challenge (corresponding to Website Functionality), and Product Challenge (corresponding to Product Knowledge); all Product Availability items have been eliminated through the item refinement process. Specifically, E-commerce Challenge and Retailer Challenge are found to predict flow, supporting flow theory, while Product Challenge fails to lead to flow significantly. Implications, limitations, and suggestions for future studies are also discussed.

        Halal literally means “permissible” in Arabic. The global Halal industry output value amounted to USD 3.2 trillion of which industry accounted for 35%. Chinese Halal food market is approximately USD 21.2 billion, and shares about 3% of the world’s Halal food market. About 24.4 million live in China of which 13.4 million reside in Xinjiang Weiwuer Autonomous Region while 2.5 million live in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Out of all countries that belong to the “One Belt One Road” (i.e. New Silk Road Economic Belt) project, 27 are Muslim countries. In addition, 65% of the 1.8. billion global Muslim population spread out along the Belt. If we can develop proper technologies accustomed to locals in China, select profitable export items, and conduct effective marketing strategies such as story-telling method, entering the Chinese Halal market may become realistic. Fundamentally, China is close to Korea in multiple ways which can be seen in our policy, economy, culture, etc. China highly favors the “Hallyu” Image that Korea is spreading all over Asia. “High-value-added organic products promoted by Hallyu” might be plausible to target the Chinese Halal market. This is a niche market for Korean organic food products from clean and fresh forests in Korea, which can be exported to China, and labelled with Hallyu brand as well as Halal certification.

        해적은 오래된 개념이며 그 역사는 인간이 바다를 운송수단으로 사용하기 시작한 시점까지 거슬러 올라간다. 특히 범죄행위는 1958년 제네바협약 이전에 국제 관습법에 의해서 처음으로 다뤄지기도 하였다. 소말리아 연안의 해적에 대한 대응조치는 국제적 및 국내적 조치로 구성이 된다. 해군, 제150/제151 합 동임무부대, 국내조치, 선제조치 및 새로운 해운기지 건설 등의 노력으로 소말 리아 연안 해적활동 대응에 큰 기여를 해 왔다. 이 논문은 이러한 대응조치가 효과적인지에 대해 초점을 맞추며 기소에 직면한 상황들에 대해 좀 더 고찰해 보고자 한다. 그리고 해적의 개념, 소말리안 연안 해적의 근본적인 원인, 소말 리아 해적이 가져온 영향, 해적문제의 법적 고찰, 국제사회에 의한 대응 및 기 타 권고사항 등에 대해서 살펴보고자 한다.

        The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the classroom discussion engagement experiences, the challenges faced and strategies for their solution, of eight international Indonesian masters students in one public university in the United Kingdom through a demographic questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The results indicated that the participants faced some speaking challenges in engaging in discussion, including (1) language barriers, (2) individual matters, and (3) academic culture differences. To cope with those challenges, the participants have undertaken strategies, such as (1) having the verbal response, (2) utilising learning sources, and (3) maintaining a positive motivation.
