        The paper presents an experimental study on shear behavior of RC beams retrofitted with Uni-Directional Narrow Fabric to improve seismic performance. Experimental parameters include the type of fiber, spacing of the fiber, and the ratio of transverse reinforcement. Also, Static loading test was performed on twelve shear-critical specimens. An experimental result were analyzed to investigate the contribution of shear strength and failure modes of the specimens retrofitted or strengthened with Uni-Directional Narrow Fabric compared to the non-retrofitted the specimen. In order to derive the shear strength model according to the spacing of the fiber, the experimental results were compared with the conventional shear strength model of RC elements retrofitted with FRP.

        Due to the globalization of food supply have been growing, there have been a great demands for food safety and quality assuarance for on-site detection. On-site detetction isuue is the process should be fast, simple, user-friendly and require minimal equipments. Herein, we developed a Radial chromatography (RC) biosensor integrated with the immuno-gold nanoparticles-coated magnetic nanoparticle (AuNPs@Fe3O4) for specific separation and detection of the target bacteria, E. coli O157:H7, in sample. The immuno-AuNPs@Fe3O4 specifically binds to E.coli O157:H7 creating AuNP@Fe3O4-E.coli complexes and captured bacteria were concentrated by magnet. The complex can be identified with inner ring derived from the difference of mobility of free AuNPs@Fe3O4 on the RC sensor. Our results show that AuNPs@Fe3O4 based RC sensor has high sensitivity to the target bacteria over non-target bacteria with a detection limit of 103 CFU/ml. Our system offers a rapid and sensitive means of detecting E.coli O157:H7 with naked eyes, which can be applied to the field diagnosis.

        Experimental evaluation of torsional behavior, which is possible behavior of seismic beams of RC structures, was carried out. Concrete strength and stirrup spacing were set as experimental variables to investigate the torsional strength of RC beams. Based on the experimental results, the torsional strength of RC beams was compared and analyzed. From the experimental results, the concrete strength was caused a difference of about 30% in the torsional strength of the maximum torque of the RC beam specimen, and the stirrup spacing was found to be about 2.8 times and 5 times that of the peak torque. Therefore, this study will be an important study to understand the effect of both concrete strength and stirrup spacing for the torsional strength or torsional behavior of RC beams.

        본 연구에서는 다양한 변수를 갖는 병렬 RC 구조벽체시스템에 대한 성능기반설계의 타당성과 이에 따른 모멘트 재분배 개념의 적용성을 분석하기 위해 횡력을 지지하는 병렬 RC 구조벽체시스템에 대한 비선형해석을 수행하였다. 설계변수(철근 비, 콘크리트변형률, 벽체높이)가 병렬 RC 구조벽체시스템의 거동에 미치는 영향을 분석하였으며 이를 기반으로 병렬 RC 구조벽체시스템의 성능기반 설계를 위한 고려사항을 제안하였다. 비선형해석 결과, 병렬 RC 구조벽체시스템 성능기반 설계 와 모멘트 재분배 개념의 적용을 위해서는 연결보의 항복여부에 대한 고려가 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 높은 벽체의 경우, 연 결보가 항복하지 않고 탄성 상태로 거동할 수 있기 때문에 고층 병렬 RC 구조벽체시스템에 대해 성능기반 설계 및 모멘트 재분배 개념을 적용하기 위해서는 벽체에 높은 수준의 소성변형능력을 필요로 하며, 이를 위해 벽체 압축단부에 횡보강을 필수적으로 실시해야 한다.

        This study aims to establish a seismic resistance performance evaluation method that makes sure to secure the seismic resistance performance of the existing mid-low story reinforced concrete structures. This study focuses on the development of the seismic resistance performance evaluation method for the overall seismic resistance performance evaluation on the buildings by applying fuzzy theory. This seismic resistance performance evaluation method considers the mutual relations among the type of force, the type of member, the type of story, and the states of deterioration of the buildings. The total seismic resistance performance index from this method was calculated by the intensity weight of each evaluation item, fuzzy measure, fuzzy integration. Moreover, the evaluation methodology was established in this study to identify the performance level of the Immediate Occupancy, Life Safe, Collapse Prevention by applying the fuzzy theory.

        To investigate the cyclic characteristics of the retrofitted exterior joints of RC frame with haunch, 70% scaled 6 beam-column exterior joint subassemblies were designed according to design guideline according to 1988 and tested with cyclic loading up to 3.5% story drift ratio. During the experiments axial forces are applied to columns to simulate gravity load. Experimental results shows that the strength of retrofitted specimens was increased steadily until 2.5% story drift ratio and their strengths increased more than 1.7 times of the non-retrofitted in case that main bar was bent away from exterior joint. The joint strength and effective stiffness of the retrofitted specimen was increased and results in more deformation capacity compared to the non-retrofitted.

        The paper presents an experimental evaluation of RC columns retrofitted by TRC(Textile fabric Reinforced Concrete). TRC were made using textile fabric fiber and self leveling mortar. A total of three specimens was constructed and was performed cyclic loading test. One specimen was a non-retrofitted column, while others were retrofitted with textile fabric and sheet type fiber. By comparing with non-retrofitted specimen, the maximum strength and ductility of retrofitted RC column was improved compared to non-retrofitted RC column.

        본 논문에서는 반응표면법과 다목적최적화 기법을 이용한 유한요소모델개선기법의 절차를 제안하고 이를 저층의 철근콘 크리트건물의 모델개선에 적용하였다. 대상건물은 전단벽 신설 및 댐퍼부착을 위한 부재의 강재보강을 통해 내진보강이 이 루어진 건물로서 보강전후에 소형 가진기를 이용한 진동실험을 실시하여 동특성을 구하였다. 대상건물의 개선에 사용된 변 수는 기존콘크리트, 신규타설된 콘크리트, 조적의 탄성계수, 신축줄눈부의 스프링계수, 강재보강된 부재의 유효강성비이다. 보강전후 건물의 초기모델을 구축한 후 중심합성법에 따라 개선변수의 값을 변화시키면서 얻은 해석결과를 통해 고유진동 수의 오차와 모드형상의 오차를 나타내는 2개의 반응함수를 구하고, 이를 다목적최적화의 목적함수로 사용하였다

        In this study, nonlinear finite element analysis based on the Modified Compression Field Theory has been conducted to evaluate shear strength of RC walls with opening. On the analysis, reinforcement ratio within development length of rebars nearby the opening was reduced in the model in order to investigate the effect of opening on shear strength of RC shear walls. The nonlinear finite element analysis has been verified through comparison with the test result in literature. Through the verification, it was investigated that the analysis considering the development length of rebars well reflected the effect of an opening on shear strength of RC shear walls while current design provisions did not reasonably consider one.

        Flexural capacity of a Textile Reinforced Mortar(TRM) was investigated by an experimental study. The test program was accomplished on reinforced concrete(RC) slabs consisted of concrete(average compressive strength of 22.23 MPa) and rebar(strength class of SD400). RC slab had 450 mm and 150 mm in size and 2,600 mm in clear span. Strengthening was accomplished by applying carbon-fiber mesh in layers of mortar. Control slab(unstrengthened) and six slabs strengthened with TRM were fabricated to confirm the reinforcing performance in this study. Test variables considered amount of reinforcement and use of anchorage. As a results, it was validated that the flexural capacity of slabs strengthened with TRM increased from 159.9% to 285.2% according to the amount of TRM compared with unstrengthened slab. Experimental results indicated that there are increase in ductility as well as load carrying and deformation capacities when using multiple layers of textile.

        This report offers an economically reasonable seismic reinforcement to non-seismic mid/low reinforced concrete structures. Installed a slit in between the reinforced concrete frame and masonry infilled wall then inserted twist bar to prevent inversion and attached to the lower/upper beam. Confirmed the seismic reinforcement effect through static loading test. Total of 4 specimens were produced for the test, a masonry infilled wall without seismic reinforcement and with seismic slit or twist bar applied. As a result, applying the seismic slit and twisted bar was economically reasonable and seismic reinforcement effect was confirmed by showing stable failure, increase of maximum strength and yield displacement, increase of accumulated energy dissipation.

        In this paper, seismic performance assessment has been examined for a mid-rise RC building subjected to 2016 Gyeongju earthquake occurred in Korea. For the purpose of the paper, 2D external and internal frames in each direction of the building have been employed in the present comparative analyses. Nonlinear static pushover analyses have been conducted to estimate frame capacities. Nonlinear dynamic time-history analyses have also been carried out to examine demands for the frames subjected to ground motions recorded at stations in near of Gyeongju and a previous earthquake ground motion. Analytical predictions demonstrate that maximum demands are significantly affected by characteristics of both spectral acceleration response and spectrum intensity over a wide range of periods. Further damage potential of the frames has been evaluated in terms of fragility analyses using the same ground motions. Fragility results reveal that the ground motion characteristics of the Gyeongju earthquake have little influence on the seismic demand and fragility of frames.

        This paper investigates seismic performance of a small-sized single story building in Korea. Nonlinear pushover anlaysis is performed to verify shear failure of RC short columns eventually led to performance degradation. Also, nonlinear time history analysis is performed using the same earthquakes from Gyeongju. Similar failure mode was obtained as in the report where a sudden rupture of the RC columns happened.

        In regions of low-to-moderate seismicity, various types of lap splices are used for longitudinal reinforcement of columns at the plastic hinge zones. The seismic performance of such lap spliced columns, such as strength, deformation capacity, and energy dissipation, is affected by material strengths, longitudinal re-bar size, confinement of hoops, lap splice location, and lap splice length. In the present study, cyclic loading tests were performed for columns using three types of lap splices (bottom offset bar splice, top offset bar splice, and splice without offset bend). Lap splice length(40db and 50db) was also considered as test parameters. Ties with 90-degree end hooks were provided in the lap splice length. The test results showed that strength, deformation capacity, and energy dissipation of columns significantly differed depending on the details and the length of lap splices. The bottom offset bar splice showed high ductility and energy dissipation but low strength; on the other hand, the top offset bar splice and the splice without offset bend showed high strength but moderate ductility and energy dissipation.

        Various methods for the detection of E. coli O157:H7 in food have been developed in the past decades. However, current detection methods require specialized instruments and lengthy preparation time. In an effort to achieve a rapid and sensitive detection, we developed a radial chromatography (RC) biosensor integrated with gold nanoparticle (AuNP) conjugated with antibody for the detection of E. coli O157:H7. The immuno-AuNP binds to E. coli O157:H7 creating AuNP-E. coli O157:H7 complexes by specific antigen-antibody interaction. The AuNP-E. coli O157:H7 complexes can be identified clearly from free AuNP by RC based on their mobility on porous matrix. Thus, the AuNP complexed with target bacteria, E. coli O157:H7 could be discriminated from free AuNP by radial chromatography. The results showed that the developed RC biosensor is highly selective to E. coli O157:H7 over non-target bacteria, including Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus and Vibrio cholerae with a detection limit of 105 CFU/ml. When combined with a pre-concentration step using immunomagnetic beads, we could further enhance the detection limit down to 103 CFU/ml. In this study, we developed a novel method that is rapid, sensitive and applicable for qualitative and quantitative detection of E. coli O157:H7. The detection procedure is simple and the results can be easily determined by naked eyes, suggesting that this system is practical and can be applied to the field diagnosis in food industry for the detection of pathogenic bacteria.

        Observations of the damages to high-rise reinforced concrete (RC) wall building structures caused by by recent earthquakes in Chile (Mw 8.8, February 2010) and New Zealand (February 2011, ML 6.3) have generally exceeded expectations. Firstly, this study estimated the seismic damage levels of 15-story RC box-type wall building structures using the analytical models calibrated by the results of a shaking table test on a 1:5 scale 10-story RC box-type wall building model. Then, the seismic fragility analysis of the prototype model was conducted by using the SAC/FEMA method and the incremental dynamic analysis (IDA). To compensate for the uncertainties and variability of ground motion and its impacts on the prototype model, in the SAC/FEMA method, a total of 61 ground motion records were selected from 20 earthquakes, with a magnitude ranging from 5.9 to 8.8 and an epicentral distance ranging from 5 to 105km. In the IDA, a total of 11 ground motion records were used based on the uniform hazard response spectrum representing a return period of 2,475 years. As a result, the probabilities that the limits of the serviceability, damage control, and collapse prevention would be exceeded were as follows: from the SAC/FEMA method: 79%, 0.3%, and 0%, respectively; and from the IDA: 57%, 1.7%, and 0%, respectively.

        Earthquakes is impossible to predict and occur within very little or no warning. They cause significant damage to property and inflict large human casualties. Seismic retrofit for non-seismic design RC frame has been studied over the years. Although there are many seismic retrofit methods, the seismic retrofit methods are increased weight and physical damage to structures. This study evaluates the seismic performance of RC frame retrofitted with velcro. The specimens were made scale down of actual steel structures, and displacement loads were applied in the trasnverse direction.

        This paper presents an experimetal study on RC beam strengthened with 3D Ultra-High-Mocular-Weight-Polyethylene (UHMWPE) fabric. This research program aims at developing the 3D UHMWPE textile fabic to improve the structural performance of RC beam. Specimens were constructed and experimentally investigated through static tests. Testing data were analyzed to investigate the performance of the specimens retrofitted or strengthened with UHMWPE fiber compared to the non-retrofitted RC beam responses. It was concluded that the strengthening method using 3D UHMWPE fiber can improve the performance of RC beam.

        철근콘크리트 슬라브의 휨강도 보강을 위해 제안된 섬유보강폴리머(Fiber Reinforced Polymer, FRP)와 초 고거동 콘크리트(Ultra High Performance Concrete, UHPC)의 합성구조의 파괴 시 거동을 살펴 본 결과, 과다한 휨 보강으로 인한 전단파괴와 보강된 FRP의 탈착에 의한 파괴가 발생하였다. 전단강도와 휨 강도의 크기를 고려한 설계 기준을 제시하여 휨 보강 한도를 제한하고, 전단 철근을 추가하여 탈착에 의한 파괴를 보강하였다. 휨 강도의 보강을 제한 하고 부착 철근이 보강된 슬라브의 실험 결과, 휨에 의한 연성파괴가 유도되었다.

        This study investigates the seismic performance of new hollow reinforced concrete (RC) bridge piers with triangular reinforcement details. The developed triangular reinforcement details are economically feasible and rational, and facilitate shorter construction periods. We tested a model of new hollow RC bridge piers with triangular reinforcement details under a constant axial load and a quasi-static, cyclically reversed horizontal load. We used a computer program, Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology (RCAHEST), for analysis of RC structures. The used numerical method gives a realistic prediction of seismic performance throughout the loading cycles for several hollow pier specimens investigated. As a result, developed triangular reinforcement details for material quantity reduction was equal to existing reinforcement details in terms of required performance.
