        This study evaluated the nutritional composition and quality traits of rabbit meat as compared to chicken meat. Samples of loin (M. longissimus dorsi) and breast meats were collected from rabbit and chicken carcasses, respectively. The meats were then analyzed for the proximate composition, collagen and energy contents, fatty acid composition, myoglobin and heme iron contents, pH value, water-holding capacity (WHC), cooking loss, meat color, Warner-Bratzler shear force (WBSF) value, and texture profile. Compared to chicken breast meat, lower (p<0.05) protein content and higher (p<0.05) ash and collagen contents were obtained in rabbit loin meat. Rabbit meat remarkably had higher (p<0.05) total polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and linolenic acid contents and lower (p<0.05) n-6/n-3 PUFA ratio as compared to chicken meat. The pH value and WHC were lower (p<0.05) in rabbit meat than in chicken meat (p<0.05). Rabbit meat exhibited lower (p<0.05) L* value and higher (p<0.05) a* and b* values compared to chicken meat (p<0.05). The WBSF value, hardness, and gumminess were higher (p<0.05) in rabbit meat than in chicken meat (p<0.05). These findings suggest that rabbit meat has higher essential n-3 PUFA, darker color, and firmer texture as compared to chicken meat.

        This study was performed to identify the effect of synovium graft on conjunctiva in rabbits after dry eye induction. Six New Zealand White rabbits were used as dry eye models. Both eyes were divided to two groups as control and synovium graft group. The synovium graft was performed in fourth week after dry eye modeling. Quantitative change of tears through Schirmer tear test (STT), qualitative change of tear film through tear film break up time (TFBUT), and damage of cornea through fluorescein staining were observed for 10 weeks at intervals of two weeks. Histological examination was performed to evaluate cornea and conjunctiva at tenth week. In both groups, STT and TFBUT were significantly decreased in 4 weeks after modeling compared to 0 weeks (p < 0.05) . After synovium graft, there were increases in STT value at 4 weeks and TFBUT at 4 and 6 weeks in graft group (p < 0.05). Corneal fluorescein staining showed no significant difference between the two groups. In histopathological examination, grafted synovium was detected as round to ovoid ingression folds, well attached to grafted regions with 0.11 ± 0.04 mm2 (range, 0.05- 0.16 mm2). These results indicated that the synovium graft on the conjunctiva had an effect on the qualitative and quantitative improvement of the tear film even though there was no histological change.

        A progressive muscle atrophy is strongly associated with aging, resulting in lower quality of life in elderly individuals. This study was conducted to determine relative hemoglobin (Hb) concentrations in the rabbit model of the sciatic nerve transection injury using non-invasive diffuse optical spectroscopy (DOS). From the 2nd week to the end of the experiment after sciatic nerve injury, a total muscle mass in nerve injured-group (NI group) significantly reduced compared with that in the normal group (p<0.001). During the capillary occlusion after nerve injury, the deoxy-hemoglobin (Hb-R) concentration in NI group significantly increased compared to that in the normal group at the 2nd and 3rd week after sciatic nerve injury (p<0.05). During the capillary release after nerve injury, the oxy-hemoglobin (Hb-O2) concentration in NI group significantly decreased at the 1st and 3rd week, and Hb-R significantly increased at 2nd week, compared to those in the normal group (p<0.05). Histological changes in the gastrocnemius muscle of NI group observed that clear fat filled spaces at the periphery of muscle fibers and angular fibers. From the results of this study, non-invasive DOS could be used to measure changes of Hb concentrations in muscles.

        Osteoarthritis is a disorder characterized by a loss of cartilage as common aging-associated disease in humans and animals. However, unlike human clinical trials, investigational studies in pet animals are constrained by a lack of interest and funds. In addition, pet owners would often prefer the lowest cost method to treat arthritis of pet animals. Here, we report the outstanding and inexpensive way to prepare chondrocytes for cartilage repair using rabbit adipose derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). This study focused on the development and enhancement of pre-chondrogenic condensation under external electric fields even without additional growth factors. We found that highly compact structures were formed within 3 days in micromass cultures of rabbit MSCs under electrical stimulation (ES), showing increased COL2A1 gene expression compared with their control 3D micromass cultures and 2D monolayer cultures. We further found that ES enhanced the production of proteoglycan, a highly produced extracellular matrix component in chondrocytes. Collectively, these results provide the commercial potential of electrical stimulation driving chondrogenesis of mesenchymal stem cells for repair of cartilage, which is a budget-friendly regimen.

        Reproductive ecology of rabbit fish, Siganus fuscescens were investigated from samples collected monthly in the coastal waters off Jeju Island of Korea from February to December 2014. In male and female of S. fuscescens, the values of GSI were reached high values between July to August in which the water temperature was high, and then decreased until December. The occurrence of individuals which have mature eggs in ovary were higher from July to August. Therefore, a main spawning season was estimated from July to August, with the highest peak in July. Throughout histological observation of the ovary in the spawning period, S. fuscescens belong to an group-synchronous and has a one spawning season a year. Fecundity of ovary ranged from 380,000 to 2,600,000 during the spawning period. Size at 50% sexual maturity, determined from logistic equation, were 25.1 cm TL which is over two years.

        We observed MMPs expression in all sperm groups, with pro-MMP showing lower expression than active MMPs. According to the results from each freezing extender, the sperm membrane integrity (HOST: Hypoosmotic Swelling Test) analysis in TCGGD (Tris 250 mM, Citric acid 88 mM, Glucose 47 mM, Glycerol 3%, Dimethylsulpoxide 3.5 M) is 59.8 ± 0.7, TCGSD (Tris 250 mM, Citric acid 88 mM, Glucose 47 mM, Sucrose 0.1 M, Dimethylsulpoxide 3.5 M) is 59.3 ± 0.5 were significantly higher (p < 0.05) among the experimental groups. And MMPs analysis result, we observed MMPs expression in all sperm groups, with pro-MMP showing lower expression than active MMPs. The expression of active MMP-2 was the highest in sperms frozen in TCGSD and TCGD (Tris 250 mM, Citric acid 88 mM, Glucose 47 mM, Dimethylsulpoxide 3.5 M), Meanwhile, sperms from the TCGGD and TCGED (Tris 250 mM, Citric acid 88 mM, Glucose 47 mM, Ethylene glycol 3%, Dimethylsulpoxide 3.5 M) group showed lower level of active MMP-2 expression. Together, these results indicate that adding glycerol or sucrose to the sperm freezing buffer would not only suppress MMPs expression but also minimize DNA fragmentation, providing a mean to improve the success rate in the in vitro manipulation of rabbit sperms. Therefore, these results suggest that TCGGD or TCGSD extender method for freezing-thawing of rabbit sperm increased the viability after thawing.

        The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of addition of ethylene glycol, glycerol and sucrose to TCG (Tris, Citric Acid, Glucose, Egg Yolk) and DMSO Frozen. The extender containing Egg yolk concentration (10%, 20%) affects viability and acrosome morphology of rabbit sperm. Sperm viability was then assessed for the freezing extenders TCGD (Tris + Citricacid + Glucose + DMSO), TCGED (Tris + Citricacid + Glucose + Egg yolk + DMSO), TCGGD (Tris + Citricacid + Glucose + Glycerol + DMSO) and TCGSD Tris + Citricacid + Glucose + Sucrose + DMSO) during thawing at 38oC. for 20 seconds, respectively. TCG + 10% egg yolk (viability: 77.0 ± 0.8, NAI: 73.3 ± 0.9) was significantly (sperm viability and normal acrosome interaction (NAI)) higher than TCG + 20% egg yolk (70.7 ± 1.1, 70.0 ± 0.9) in the sperm normalcy analysis according to the yolk concentration. TCGGD (53.4 ± 0.1, 62.3 ± 0.4), TCGSD (61.3 ± 0.0, 67.1 ± 0.1) sperm viability and normal acrosome interaction (NAI) in frozen spermatozoa are TCGD (46.4 ± 2.8 and 56.3 ± 1. 4) and TCGED (23.0 ± 1.1 and 54.6 ± 1.4) extenders was thawed at 38oC for 20 seconds. According to the results from each frozen bulking agent, sperm membrane integrity by hypotonic swelling test (HOST) analysis in TCGGD (59.8 ± 0.7), TCGSD (59.3 ± 0.5) was significantly high compared to other experimental groups (p < 0.05). In conclusion, these results suggested that TCGGD and TCGSD extenders enhance survivability of rabbit sperm after frozen-thawing.

        This study was carried out to investigate the protective effect of prednisolone in rabbit primary cultured articular chondrocytes treated with sodium nitroprusside (SNP), a nitric oxide donor. After a cell phenotype was determined, the MTT assay and Western blot analysis of type II collagen, cylooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and phosphorylated extracellular regulated kinase (pERK) were performed in the control, SNP (298 μg/ml) alone or SNP plus prednisolone (0.05-50 μg/ml)-treated rabbit articular chondrocytes. Immunofluorescence staining of type II collagen was also performed. Cell morphology indicated that SNP treatment induced cytotoxicity, and that the SNP-induced cytotoxicity was inhibited by prednisolone treatment. MTT assay showed that the SNP treatment resulted in a significant decrease in the level of cell viability compared with that of control (p<0.01), and that the prednisolone treatment resulted in a decrease in the SNP-induced cytotoxicity. SNP treatment resulted in a decrease in the level of type II collagen, compared with the control chondrocytes. The prednisolone treatment recovered the down-regulated expression of type II collagen induced by SNP, showing a significant level in 5 μg/ml of the prednisolone treatment group compared to the SNP treatment group (p<0.05). A significant increase in COX-2 was significantly induced by the SNP treatment compared to control chondrocytes (p<0.01). The COX-2 expression was decreased by the prednisolone treatment, showing a significant level in 50 μg/ml of the prednisolone treatment group compared to the SNP treatment group (p<0.05). These phenomena was confirmed by immunofluorescence staining. Furthermore, the SNP treatment significantly induced a decrease of pERK expression compared to the control chondrocytes (p<0.01). The prednisolone treatment recovered its expression, showing a significant level in 0.5 μg/ml of the prednisolone treatment group compared to the SNP treatment group (p<0.05). Taken the above results together, prednisolone is considered to inhibit SNP-induced cell death and dedifferentiation, and modulated expression of COX-2 and pERK in rabbit articular chondrocytes.

        The age and growth of rabbit fish, Siganus fuscescens were investigated from samples monthly collected in the coast of Jeju island, Korea from February to December 2012. Ages were determined from annuli in otoliths, and annuli were formed in one or two months immediately after spawning once a year. Also, main spawning period was estimated between July and August, thus rings were considered as annual marks. The von Bertalanffy growth equations estimated from a non-linear regression method were Lt=37.24 (1-e-0.33(t + 1.24)) (R2=0.92) for female and Lt=31.44(1-e-0.45(t + 1.23)) (R2=0.90) for male, and the growth between female and male was different.

        Dental implants were used for reconstruction of oromaxillofacial defects and they were widely used in dental and medical fields. The implant materials are various , including titanium and ceramics such as zirconium. The property of implant materials have biocompatibility and mechanical strength. Titanium has direct bone anchorage without any other tissues between implant's interface. many researcher's had studied for raising the osseointegration success rate through various method. It was reported over 95% success ratio. many researcher's study the enhancing the speed of bone remodelling and osseointegration. Low Level Laser Therapy is one of the method to accelerlate the speed of bone remodelling and osseointegration. Thus it raise initial stability. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of diode laser irradiation for ossoeintegration in implant interface and between the implants threads. 24 New Zealand white rabbits which were about 3Kg, used for experiment. 2 implant's were implanted every rabbit's tibia. 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 8 weeks after implantation, tissue sample were removed from sacrificed rabbit's tibia. 8 rabbit's were sacrificed every 2, 4, 8 weeks and undecalcified sample were got from tissue sample. The undecalcified samples were investigated by optical microscope. 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 8 weeks experimental groups which were irradiated low level laser therapy showed rapid bone remodelling than control groups. it showed many difference especially in initial stage. Low level laser irradiation increase the volume of new bone formation in implant interface . It was suggested that there were many influence in bone remodelling in early stage, because these were many differences between experimental and control groups. Low level laser irradiation were helpful for immediate loading implant

        This study demonstrated that hyaluronic acid (HA) accelerated peripheral nerve regeneration after crush injury to the common peroneal nerve in an experimental rabbit model. Ten male New Zealand White rabbits, weighing 1.8 to 2.0 kg, were used in this study. After creating the nerve crush model in every right leg, rabbits were divided into two groups. Animals in group A received application of HA into the area surrounding the crushed nerve, and group B was the sham control. Electrophysiological assessment was performed every week. After 10 weeks, nerve histological examination, muscle weight and muscle histology were used to evaluate regeneration of the injured common peroneal nerve. No differences in electrophysiological assessment were observed between the two groups. In peripheral nerve histology, myelinated nerve fibers were observed more frequently and less connective tissue was observed in the crushed nerve of group A. Fewer muscle degenerative changes, such as fibrosis, atrophy, and centrally located myonuclei, were detected in group A than in group B. In conclusion, HA could become a potential neuroprotective agent for improvement of peripheral nerve regeneration after crush injury.

        Currently, Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is widely used in medicine and dentistry. It has been suggested that LLLT may be beneficial in management of many different medical conditions, including pain, wound healing and nerve injury. Stimulation with LLLT can enhance bone repair as reported in experimental studies on bone defects and fracture healing also. As far as hard tissue is concerned, the biostimulating effect of laser has been demonstrated more rapid healing of tibial bone fracture in mice. This study was performed to compare new bone formation between with LLLT and without LLLT. Two cylinder implants(5mm diameter, 5mm length) were implanted on rabbit's tibia. LLLT was done to one implant with 632mm diode laser. And than Rabbit's were sacrificed after 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th weeks after implantation. Bone with implant were removed and fixed with 10% formaline. Undecalfied sample were prepared after spurr low resin embedding. Sample were grind and polished to 100㎛. The results were as follows. The amount of trabeclue of experimental group were superior to that of control group from 2 weeks to 8 weeks. There were no difference in arrangement of trabecule between two groups. Bone implant contact were significantly increased at 4th weeks in experimental group. The number of ostecytes in trabecule were different at 4th weeks experimental group. Osteone were appeared dominantly at 6th weeks experimental group, while at 8th weeks experimental group were superior than control group. LLLT group showed increased amount of trabecule, bone implant contact, number of osteocytes & osteone. It suggested that LLLT might be increase the bone formation rate and accelerate the bone formation time.

        Currently, implants are widely used in dental and medical fields. Especially dental implants are widely used for reconstruction of oral and maxillofacial defects. Many researcher's had studied for raising the osseointegration through various method. It was reported high success rate. Also they study the enhancing the speed of bone remodelling and osseointegration. Low level laser therapy is introduced one of the methods to accelerate the speed of bone remodelling and osseointegration. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of diode laser irradiation about to raise ossoeintegration. Twenty four New Zealand white rabbits which were about 3Kg were used for experiment. Two implants were implanted same side of rabbits tibia. Diode laser was irradiated 1cm diameter, 0.5 watt power, 1 minute duration at periphery of one of implants. Eight rab b its were sacrificed every 2, 4, 8 weeks, made undecalcified sample. We investigated in the undecalcified samples histological and histomorphometrc analysis by light microscope. The results were as follows. 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 8 weeks experimental groups which were showed rapid bone remodelling than control groups. They showed many difference especially in early healing time. Bone Implant contact rate were 47% in 2 weeks experimental group. 28% in 2 weeks control groups, 82% in 4 weeks experimental groups, 62% in 4 weeks control groups, 98% in 8 weeks experimental groups and 84% in 8 weeks control groups then experimental groups show statistically significant difference(p<0.05). Bone remodelling area rate inside the implant threads were 49% in 2 weeks experimental groups. 31% in 2 weeks control groups, 90% in 4 weeks experimental groups, 82% in 4 weeks control groups, 99% in 8 weeks experimental groups and 97% in 8 weeks control groups then 2,4 weeks experimental groups show statistically significant difference(p<0.05). Implant-bone contact length rate and bone remodelling area rate were no significant difference of linear regression equation of control and experimental groups then bone remodelling were different at early healing time but there were no differences of time changes. According to above results, one of the low level lasers diode laser irradiation was effected on the volume of new bone formation in implant interface and between the implants threads. Low level laser irradiation were helpful for initial stage of bone remodelling.

        Interspecies somatic cell nuclear transfer (iSCNT) is a valuable tool for studying the interactions between an oocyte and somatic nucleus. The object of this study was to investigate the developmental competence of in vitro‐matured porcine oocytes after transfer of the somatic cell nuclei of 2 different species (goat and rabbit). Porcine cumulus oocytes were obtained from the follicles of ovaries and matured in TCM‐199. The reconstructed embryos were electrically fused with 2 DC pulses of 1.1 kV/cm for 30 μs in 0.3 M mannitol medium. The activated cloned embryos were cultured in porcine zygote medium‐3 (PZM‐3), mSOF or RDH medium for 7 days. The blastocyst formation rate of the embryos reconstructed from goat or rabbit fetal fibroblasts was significantly lower than that of the embryos reconstructed from porcine fetal fibroblast cells. However, a significantly higher number of embryos reconstructed from goat or rabbit fetal fibroblasts cultured in mSOF or RDH, respectively, developed to the morular stage than those cultured in PZM‐3. These results suggest that goat and bovine fetal fibroblasts were less efficacious than porcine‐porcine cloned embryos and that culture condition could be an important factor in iSCNT. The lower developmental potential of goat‐porcine and porcine‐bovine cloned embryos may be due to incompatibility between the porcine oocyte cytoplasm and goat and bovine somatic nuclei.

        X-ray diffraction studies have been made to investigate the effects of binding of ADP, ADP+Vi, ADP+AIF4, ADP+BeF3 on the structure of glycerinated rabbit skeletal muscle in the rigor state. Although these phosphate analogs are known to bind actively cycling myosin heads, it is not clear whether they can bind to the attached heads in the rigor muscle. We have found that these analogs can bind to the myosin heads attached to actin filaments in the rigor state. The present results indicate that (1) bound myosin heads altered their conformation in the proximal end toward the plane perpendicular to the fiber axis when MgADP bound to them, and (2) myosin heads were dissociated substantially (up to 50%) from actin filaments but still remained in the vicinity of actin filaments when MgADP and metallofluorides (AIF4 and BeF3) or vanadate bound to them. We detected new conformations of myosin heads attached to actin filaments when they had MgADP or ADP.Pi analogs. We report here these findings on the effects of MgADP and MgADP+phosphate analogs to the rigor crossbridges.

        본 연구는 New Zealand White 수토끼에서 춘기발동 기간 동안에 혈청내 IGF-I(insulin-like growth factor-I)과 GH(growth hormone) 수준의 변화, 정자 형성에 따른 정소내 세포 구성 변화 및 이들 측정치들 간에 관계를 조사하기 위하여 실시되었다. 주령과 관련된 정소내 세포의 DNA 함량 변화 조사를 위하여 10~28주령 수토끼 정소 조직의 fine-needle biopsy를 flow cytometry(FCM)로 분석하였다. 생체중은 12~20주령 때 크게 증가되었고(P<0.05), 28주령 체중은 3.4kg이었다. 혈청 IGF-I 수준(451.3ng/mL)은 20주령에서 가장 높았으며(P<0.05), 그 후 낮은 수준으로 유지되었다. 혈청 GH 수준은 183.3pg/mL으로 다른 주령 때보다 현저히 높았으며(P<0.05), 상승시기가 IGF-I보다는 다소 빨랐다. 정소 조직세포 중 1C-세포의 상대적 비율은 18주령 때 48.2%로 16주령보다 크게 상승되었고(P<0.05), 주령 증가와 더불어 68%로 증가되었다. 2C-세포 비율은 18주령 때 26.8%로 16주령의 54.3%보다 현저히 낮았다(P<0.05). 4C-세포 비율은 18주령 때 9.9%를 제외하고 2~6%를 유지하였다. 이상 결과에서 토끼는 춘기 발동 개시가 약 18주령에 일어나고 이 기간 중 IGF-I과 GH 수준의 변화가 나이 또는 체성장과 관계가 있었으며 그 영향이 정자 형성과 관련이 있음을 알 수 있었다. Fine-needle biopsy와 연계된 FCM은 춘기 발동 개시와 관련된 정자의 형성 과정을 평가하는데 매우 정확한 방법임을 확인할 수 있었다.
