        PURPOSES : This paper proposes an artificial neural network (ANN)-based real-time traffic signal time design model using real-time field data available at intersections equipped with smart intersections. The proposed model generates suitable traffic signal timings for the next cycle, which are assumed to be near the optimal values based on a set of counted directional real-time traffic volumes. METHODS : A training dataset of optimal traffic signal timing data was prepared through the CORSIM Optimal Signal Timing program developed for this study to find the best signal timings, minimizing intersection control delays estimated with CORSIM and a heuristic searching method. The proposed traffic signal timing design model was developed using a training dataset and an ANN learning process. To determine the difference between the traditional pre-time model primarily used in practice and the proposed model, a comparison test was conducted with historical data obtained for a month at a specific intersection in Uiwang, Korea. RESULTS : The test results revealed that the proposed method could reduce control delays for most of the day compared to the existing methods, excluding the peak hour periods when control delays were similar. This is because existing methods focus only on peak times in practice. CONCLUSIONS : The results indicate that the proposed method enhances the performance of traffic signal systems because it rapidly provides alternatives for all-day cycle periods. This would also reduce the management cost (repeated field data collection) required to increase the performance to that level. A robust traffic-signal timing design model (e.g., ANN) is required to handle various combinations of directional demands.

        PURPOSES : This study prioritizes the potential technology for establishing an efficient traffic control in the ramp junction of urban deep underground tunnels in the future. We considered most of the applicable technologies that ensure traffic safety at the on-off ramp junction. METHODS : This study proposes a methodology to prioritize the applicable technology for establishing efficient traffic control in the ramp junction of an urban deep underground tunnel using an analytical hierarchy process (AHP). First, an AHP structure was developed. Second, an individual survey was conducted to collect the opinions of road and transportation experts. Based on the survey results, weights were estimated depending on the relevant criteria of the developed structure. The estimated weights were verified using the consistency index (CI) and consistency ratio (CR). In addition, a sensitivity analysis was performed to confirm the reliability of the estimated weights. Finally, the potential technology for an efficient traffic control in the ramp junction of an urban deep underground tunnel was prioritized. RESULTS : In the first level of hierarchy, traffic demand control had the highest priority, and ramp metering, section speed control, and shoulder lane control were selected in the second level of hierarchy. CONCLUSIONS : These results implied that prioritizing would be useful in establishing traffic operation strategies for traffic safety when constructing and opening deep underground tunnels in urban areas in the future.

        본 연구에서는 운전 시뮬레이션을 이용하여 적응형 정속 주행(adaptive cruise control: ACC) 시스템에 대한 운전자의 신뢰 및 도로 혼잡도가 운전자의 작업부하와 상황인식에 미치는 효과를 알아보았다. ACC 시스템에 대한 운전자의 신뢰는 ACC 시스템이 정상 작동하는 조건과 시스템이 오작동하는 조건을 통해 신뢰상승 집단과 신뢰감소 집단으로 구분하였다. 도로 혼잡도는 운전자 차량 주변의 차량 수로 수준을 조작하였다. ACC 시스템에 대한 신뢰와 도로 혼잡도를 달리한 네 가지의 실험 조건 각각에 대해 운전자들의 작업부하와 상황인식을 측정하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 먼저 ACC 시스템에 대한 신뢰감소 집단은 신뢰상승 집단에 비해 이 시스템의 사용으로 인한 운전부담 경감이나 안전운전 확보 등을 포함한 측정 항목 모두에서 시스템에 대한 신뢰 점수가 유의하게 더 낮았다. 둘째, ACC 시스템에 대한 신뢰감소 집단은 신뢰상승 집단에 비해 이차과제에서 더 느린 반응시간을 보였고, 시스템 사용에서의 주관적인 작업부하 수준도 더 높게 평정하였다. 셋째, 이와는 대조적으로 운전자들의 운전상황에 대한 상황인식은 ACC 시스템 신뢰감소 집단이 신뢰상승 집단보다 유의하게 더 우수하였다. 본 연구의 결과들은 ACC 시스템에 대한 신뢰가 운전 중에 수행하는 다양한 정보처리에 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 보였는데, 이것은 자동화된 운전보조 시스템의 설계에서 사용자의 시스템에 대한 신뢰가 중요한 변인으로 고려되어야 한다는 것을 시사한다.

        A retractable bollard system has been used for the traffic control and protection of important facilities such as electric power plants, airports and government buildings etc. The power source of the driving unit of the conventional protective bollard system is on hydraulic or pneumatic system which has several disadvantages compared to an electric driven unit. In this research, an electric driven unit for an automatic retractable bollard is designed and developed to replace the conventional hydraulic and pneumatic driven type. For the reliability test of the developed electric driven unit, a field test has been successfully done. A case study was conducted to develop a defensive retractive bollard which the target performance is 9sec. and 7sec. on its raising and descending operation speed respectively with 750mm in stroke. The required time limit was fully satisfied as the time measured from the experiment were 7.5sec and 5.5sec for each operation. The developed unit also passed 364,000 cycles of operation without any serious malfunctions at the load test proving its reliability. The design theory and process of an electric driven unit of the automatic retractable bollard presented in this article is believed to be very useful contribution and design tool in advancing the physical security industry.

        This study suggested a new real-time traffic signal operation algorithm using combined data of travel time and occupancy rate. This study applied the travel time data to traffic signal control system, and developed the signal operation algorithm based on saturation degree that was calculated using the travel time data. This algorithm calculates a queue length using a delay model, and converts the queue length to the saturation degree. Moreover, it calculates signal timing variables using this combined saturation degree. This study conducted a microscopic simulation for effectiveness evaluation. We checked that the average intersection delay decreased by up to 27 percent. Moreover, we checked that this signal operation algorithm could respond to a traffic condition of oversaturation and loop detector error effectively and usefully. In korea, sectional traffic detection systems are being installed in various ITS projects, such as Advanced Transportation Management System(ATMS) and Urban Transportation Information System(UTIS). This study has important significance in the sense that it is new methodology to accept the sectional detection system in traffic signal control system.

        PURPOSES : This study evaluated the feasibility of implementing protected-permissive left-turn (PPLT) signals at three-leg signalized intersections. METHODS: A three-leg signalized intersection with permissive left-turn was first selected. A VISSIM simulation model was constructed using data collected from the test site. The VISSIM network was calibrated by adjusting related parameter values in order to minimize the difference between the simulated and surveyed critical gap. The calibrated network was validated by the number of waiting left-turning vehicles per cycle. Finally, the mobility and safety measures were extracted from simulation runs in which permissive, protected left turns as well as PPLTs were realized based on diverse traffic volume scenarios. RESULTS : The mobility-related measures of effectiveness (MOEs) of the case with PPLT outperformed the other two left-turn treatment scenarios. In particular, the average waiting time per cycle for the left-turn vehicles in the case with PPLT was reduced by 30 s. The safetyrelated MOEs of the case with PPLT were somewhat higher than those in the case with protected left-turns and much higher than those in the case with permissive left-turns. CONCLUSIONS : Based on the mobility- and safety-related MOEs generated from the VISSIM simulation runs, the use of PPLT seems to be feasible at three-leg signalized intersections where the left-turn is permissive and a pedestrian signal exists at the conflicting approach. However, in order to use the PPLT in earnest, it is necessary to revise the road traffic act, traffic signs, and related manuals.

        자기 유사성(self-similarity)은 다양한 네트워크 환경에서 공통적으로 발생하는 현상인 것으로 정체 제어에서 자기 유사성 트래픽의 장거리 상관 구조를 활용할 가능성과 MTS(Multiple Time Scale) 정체 제어의 프레임워 크를 발전시켜, 이 프레임워크가 전송 율 기반 피드백 제어의 성능을 향상시키는 데 시뮬레이션을 통해 트래 픽 조건으로 다음과 같이 연구한다. 자기유사성 트래픽 조건에서 3가지 단계로 구성한다. 먼저 TCP의 모듈 형 확장에서 Tahoe, Reno, Vegas등 다양한 버전의 TCP에 적용되는 간단한 인터페이스를 통한 함수 호출을 정의하고, 이것이 성능을 크게 향상시는 것을 입증한다. 두 번째로, 광대역 WAN에서 지연-대역폭의 곱이 높을 경우 더욱 심각해지는 사후 제어의 불확실성 차이를 해소함으로써 MTS TCP가 기반 피드백 제어에 사전성 을 부여한다는 것을 입증한다. 세 번째는 트래픽 제어의 3가지 차원인, 즉 추적 능력, 연결 지속 기간, 공정성 이 성능에 미치는 영향 등을 비교 분석하여 입증한다.

        최근 선박을 이용한 화물운송의 증대, 해양관광 및 레저 활동을 위한 연안 여객선의 운항 증가, 그리고 해양생태계 파괴와 사회적 문제로 확산된 서해안 기름유출 사고 등 해양에 대한 관심이 갈수록 고조되고 있는 상황에서 선박의 안전운항은 필수적인 요건이다. 이러한 상황에서 현재 운용되고 있는 선박의 출항통제기준에 대한 보다 정량적이고 객관적인 검토가 시급한 실정이다. 본 논문에서는 선박 운항 시 안전운항과 가장 밀접한 관련을 갖는 파랑을 분석하여, 우리나라 연안항로에 취항하고 있는 대표적인 선형의 여객선들을 대상으로 해상상태 및 선형에 따라 내항성능지표를 이용하여 선박의 항해안전성을 평가하였다. 이러한 결과는 선박출항통제 기준의 개선과 연안 여객선의 안전운항에 큰 도움이 될 것으로 판단된다.

        As increasing needs of marine transportation , world merchant fleet and ship's size were enlarged and it caused frequent disasters in human lives and natural environment. By the reason of the above, they started to establish the Vessel Traffic System (VTS) at the European coast in 1960' and most of advanced contries established and managed it to prevent the sea traffic accidents in these days. The concept of traffic control at sea can be divided into three types. First, the initial gathering of informations about ship's identity and movement etc.. Second, monitoring of the traffic flow and amendment of instructions. Third , organization and direction of ships by allocating routes and speeds. Where the goal of traffic control is safety of traffics and developing effectiveness of navigation channel, if traffic volume is less tan channel capacity then the above first or second level of control would be sufficient but if it is bigger than that , more positive policy of control should be adopted as same as third type of the above. In this paper where the strategy of VTS is focused on the control of traffic density to be spread equality, as possible , all over the navigation channels and also improvement of effectiveness , it suggests algorithm to assign the vessels to the channels with balanced traffic density , and other algorithms using D.P. to sequence the vessels assigned to one channel in optimum order which decreases the mean waiting time in sense of channel effectiveness with numerical examples.

        As per the rapid development of world economics the marine traffic volume was increased accordingly and caused frequent disasters in human lives and natural environment in the consequence of accidents. As the result of the above they started to establish Vessel Traffic System(VTS) and separation scheme in waterway from 1960' to prevent the marin traffic accident but the problem of safety at sea appears now as neither fully defined nor sufficiently analysed. At the present, the dominant factor in establishing the strategy of marine traffic has been safety of navigation concerning only with the ship, but the risk of society derives almost wholly from the nature of cargo. To measure the degree of danger for each ship there is suggested concept of safety factor numbers denoting the level of latent danger in connection with ship and her cargo. In this paper, where the strategy of VTS is put on controlling density of safety factor for control area. it suggested algorithms how to assign the vessels and also to get optimal sequence of vessels located to a sector in the sense of minimizing the passage delay. For the formulation of problem, min max and 0-1 programming methods are applied and developed heuristic algorithm is presented with numerical example to improve the efficiency of calculation.
