        The present work reports the effect of different functionalization methodologies on surface modification of porous carbon and its efficacy for benzene adsorption. The virgin and surface-modified adsorbents were characterized by FTIR, N2 sorption analysis, SEM, and Boehm titration. The adsorption isotherms were measured at different temperatures using a highly sensitive magnetic suspension microbalance. At lower benzene concentration, the virgin carbon was found to possess reasonable adsorption capacity, while at higher benzene concentration, the surface-modified carbon tends to perform better. The maximum benzene adsorption capacity at 25 °C and vapor pressure of 90 mbar is as follows: 467 mg/g (NORIT-AC), 227 mg/g (AC-APS (1 M)), 388 mg/g (Norit-AC-HT), 492 mg/g (AC-HNO3), and 531 mg/g (AC-H2SO4).

        This paper presents the characteristics of gentamicin-loaded into cetyl trimethyl ammonium intercalated montmorillonite (GtM/CTMA/Mt) as a hybrid composite for a slow-released antibacterial delivery systems. The work describes the successful immobilization of gentamicin into the interlayers of surfactant-modified montmorillonite. Physicochemical characterization of the material is carried out by means of X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The kinetics of the gentamicin release is investigated by in vitro study and analyzed based on UV–Vis spectrometry. In addition, antibacterial study is performed towards Klebsiella pneumoniae Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Streptococcus pyogenes. The results show that the gentamicin loading into CTMA/ Mt increases the effectiveness of the antibacterial activity, as shown by the higher inhibition zone for all tested bacteria, compared to gentamicin as a positive control. The kinetics study suggests that the gentamicin release obeys the modified Korsmeyer–Peppas model. The physicochemical study and activity test demonstrate the feasibility of the GtM/CTMA/Mt for practical applications.

        By measuring the buoyant force of common water hyacinths for common water hyacinth cultivation facilities, the mean buoyant force per common water hyacinths weight was calculated to be 11.67N/㎏ in the measurement performed based on manpower and 18.28N/㎏ in the measurement performed based on a motor. An experiment on dragging force per dragging speed according to the dragging weight was also conducted, and the experimental result verified that the dragging force increased as the dragging weight and speed increased. Moreover, the dragging force per the dragging weight according to the dragging speed was measured. Through an experiment on dragging common water hyacinths in a reservoir, it was confirmed that common water hyacinths cannot be dragged at a dragging speed of 0.036㎧ or higher owing to increased water resistance. Under the condition of the dragging weight set as 50㎏, a dragging force per unit weight of the common water hyacinth was calculated to be 2.62N/㎏ when the dragging bar was 3m in length and 2.94N/㎏ when the dragging bar was 6m in length. Under the condition when the dragging weight was set as 100㎏, the dragging force per unit weight of the common water hyacinth was calculated to be 1.50N/㎏ when the dragging bar was 3m in length and 2.13N/㎏ when the dragging bar was 6m in length. Under the condition when the dragging weight was set as 400㎏, the dragging force per unit weight of the common water hyacinth was calculated to be 0.8N/㎏ when the dragging bar was 3m in length and 5.43N/㎏ when the dragging bar was 6m in length. It was evaluated that the dragging force per unit weight of the common water hyacinth calculated in this study can be effectively applied as data for designing dragging equipment used to drag common water hyacinths in a reservoir.

        Even in an era where 8-meter class telescopes are common, small telescopes are considered very valuable research facilities since they are available for rapid follow-up or long term monitoring observations. To maximize the usefulness of small telescopes in Korea, we established the SomangNet, a network of 0.4{1.0 m class optical telescopes operated by Korean institutions, in 2020. Here, we give an overview of the project, describing the current participating telescopes, its scienti c scope and operation mode, and the prospects for future activities. SomangNet currently includes 10 telescopes that are located in Australia, USA, and Chile as well as in Korea. The operation of many of these telescopes currently relies on operators, and we plan to upgrade them for remote or robotic operation. The latest SomangNet science projects include monitoring and follow-up observational studies of galaxies, supernovae, active galactic nuclei, symbiotic stars, solar system objects, neutrino/gravitational-wave sources, and exoplanets.

        This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of rumen origin lactate-utilizing bacteria (LUB) as one of the potential treatments on subacute ruminal acidosis (SARA) during in vitro challenge compared to buffering agents (NaHCO3, sea minerals, MgO) and direct-fed microorganism (yeast). We hypothesized that rumen LUB (RLUB) could be a potential treatment to treat ruminal acidosis. The supplementation level of other treatments was determined by referring to previous studies in the literature. The 108 CFU/g freeze-dried RLUB isolated from Hanwoo cattle were compared with 0.1% NaHCO3, 0.8% of MgO, 0.5% sea mineral and 0.4% yeast during in vitro SARA challenge. Rumen fluid collected from one cannulated Holstein and one Hanwoo steer fed by maize silage was mixed with 0.5g feed consisted of 0.05g forage and 0.45g concentrate. These mixtures were incubated in triplication for 3, 6, 12 and 24h. After 6h of incubation, along with MgO and sea minerals, RLUB treatment showed higher (p<0.05) ㏗ values than control with no significant differences in total volatile fatty acid concentration. However, in the same period, the propionate concentration and A:P ratio were higher in RLUB than in the other treatment (p<0.05), which might alter the fermentation pattern. On the other hand, the RLUB treatment produced a higher (p<0.05) ammonia-N concentration. Based on these results, we can conclude that RLUB might have the potential to alleviate SARA. Nonetheless, further study on its mechanism in SARA is required, especially with live animals.

        가상 현실은 몰입감과 존재감을 극대화시킬 수 있다는 장점이 있어 비디오 게임, 교육, 치료 목적을 가진 다양한 콘텐츠에 널리 활용되고 있다. 또한 GearVR, DayDream, Occulus Quest 2 등의 HMD 등이 개발됨에 따라 가상 현실은 널리 보급되었다. 그러나 이러한 장비들을 사용하면 사용자가 실제 물리적인 세계를 볼 수 없다는 단점이 있어 실제 물체와 충돌하거나 넘어지는 위험한 상황에 빠질 수 있다. 만약 사용자가 시스 루 HMD를 사용하면 실제 물리적인 세계를 볼 수 있으므로 물체를 피할 수 있고 이러한 위험을 피할 수 있 는데 이러한 시스루 HMD는 광학 기반 방식이나 비디오 기반 방식으로 분류된다. 이러한 광학 기반 HMD는 렌즈를 통과하는 물리적 물체들을 볼 수 있지만 비용 문제가 있으며 비디오 기반 HMD는 비용과 카메라의 원본 이미지에 다양한 가상 효과를 추가할 수 있다는 장점이 있다. 본 논문은 이러한 장점들을 활용하여 저 렴한 비용으로 게임에 활용될 수 있도록 개발된 시스루 HMD를 설명하였으며 해당 HMD를 활용하는 게임 을 설명하였다. 본 논문을 통하여 개발된 비디오 시스루 HMD를 통해 더 많은 사용자가 저렴한 비용으로 혼합 현실 기반 게임을 즐길 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.

        Background: Whole-body vibration (WBV) has been used to alleviate proprioceptive damage by musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. However, no study has determined whether wearing shoes while applying WBV can affect proprioception precision of the knee joint. Objects: This study aimed to determine the differences in the proprioceptive precision of the knee joint before and after WBV and to compare the proprioceptive precision of the knee joint between barefoot and shoe-wearing conditions. Methods: This study recruited 33 healthy participants. A passive-to-active angle reproduction test was used to measure the proprioception precision of the knee joint using an electrogoniometer, and the target angle was set to a knee flexion of 30°. Proprioception precision was calculated using the error angle (angular difference from 30°). Proprioceptive precision was measured in weight-bearing and non-weight-bearing positions before and after applying WBV for 20 minutes at 12 Hz in barefoot and shoe-wearing conditions. Mixed repeated analysis of variance was used to determine the differences in changes in the proprioceptive precision of the knee joint according to foot conditions. Results: There were significant improvements in the weight-bearing (p = 0.002) and nonweight- bearing (p < 0.001) proprioceptive precision of the knee joint after applying WBV. However, there was no significant difference in the change in proprioceptive precision of the knee joint after applying WBV between the barefoot and shoe-wearing conditions. Conclusion: WBV stimulation had an immediate effect on improving the proprioceptive precision of the knee joint. However, foot conditions (barefoot or shoe-wearing) during WBV application did not influence the proprioceptive precision of the knee joint.

        The study aims to define the Korean Wave as global attention to Korea’s unique culture and consider the specificity of traditional Korean fashion images in Korean Wave content. The research method of this study is a case study through literature research. In order to collect Korean Wave content on YouTube, 24 channels with the highest number of views were selected from among content uploaded from 2018 to the present through keyword search, and up to two channels with high views showing traditional Korean fashion images. As a result of selecting the analysis target, 41 Korean Wave videos and 368 costumes were selected and analyzed based on fashion style elements, including item, color, detail, motif, styling, silhouette, and accessory. As a result of the study, music, broadcast, fashion, and other content were found in the Korean Wave content fields in which Korean fashion style appeared, and the characteristics of each field were derived. Music content was characterized by fashion style excluding stereotypes about traditional Korean costume, broadcast and fashion content was characterized by fashion style inherited from traditional costume, and other content was characterized by symbolic fashion style of traditional culture. This study is meaningful in revealing the formative characteristics of traditional Korean design elements recently shared online through the study of Korean traditional fashion images in Korean Wave content.
