        Noh, Bo-kyung & Ban, Hyun. 2014. Deciphering Ideological Representations in Editorials of Two U.S. Quality Newspapers. The Sociolinguistic Journal of Korea 22(2), 23-44. The United States federal government entered a shutdown due to the ideological dispute between Democrats and Republicans from October 1 through 16, 2013. This paper attempts to elucidate ideological representations through a thorough analysis of editorials in two elite newspapers, the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. In particular, we examined how an in-group and an out-group were formed, and how the formation was reinforced in terms of in-group homogeneity and out-group exclusion, by means of linguistic features such as naming choices, the so-called editorial we, and lexical selections, following van Dijk's (1998) ideological square. The results are as follows: (i) the Wall Street Journal emphasized “their” bad properties more aggressively than the New York Times, while the New York Times emphasized both “their” bad qualities and “our” good qualities in a more moderate way than the Wall Street Journal; (ii) the two strategies of emphasis and mitigation enabled both newspapers to reinforce in-group homogeneity and out-group exclusion: The Wall Street Journal openly framed Republicans as the in-group and Democrats as the out-group, whereas the New York Times posited Americans and Democrats as the in-group, in relation to Republicans.         To accommodate growth, insects must periodically replace their exoskeletons. The cuticle or exoskeleton consists of multiple functional layers including the waterproof envelope (cuticulin layer), the protein-rich epicuticle (exocuticle) and the chitinous procuticle (endocuticle). After shedding the old cuticle, the newly formed soft and transparent cuticle must harden and tan. During tanning, cross-links form between adjacent polypeptide chains, causing progressive hardening, dehydration, and close packing of the polymers. This cross-linking occurs as a result of oxidative and nucleophilic reactions between highly reactive tanning agents derived from catechols and nucleophilic side chain groups of cuticular proteins (CPs). The initial steps of tanning in most cuticles involve formation of quinones and quinone methides derived from N-acylcatecholamines, followed by their oxidative conjugation with CPs, leading to changes in mechanical properties and pigmentation. This vital physiological step occurs during each stage of development and is required to stabilize and harden the exoskeleton. The mechanism of the insect sclerotization, however, is poorly understood, and the factors that lead to synthesis of cuticular structures with differing physical properties that are unique to each type of cuticle (e.g. elytron, hindwing, pronotum, dorsal and ventral body wall) are not well defined. In this study, we investigated development and differentiation of rigid cuticle using the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum adult, as a model insect. Tribolium as a beetle is superior model for studying rigid cuticle formation because they have a highly modified (sclerotized and pigment) forewing (elytron) which can be separated from other tissues easily and cleanly. We analyzed ultrastructure of elytral cuticle during development (from 3 d-old pupae to 3 d-old adults) by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). In 3 d-old pupae, pupal cuticle separated from the epidermal cells (apolysis), and the outermost envelop of adult cuticle was being formed. Protein-rich epicuticle and procuticle composed numbers of horizontal laminae and vertical canals were formed at 4 and 5 d-old pupal stages. After adult eclosion, additional thick horizontal laminae were evident and apical membrane of the epidermal cells became undulae like-structure at 1 d-old adult, and then final three layers with no horizontal laminae were formed by 3days after adult molting. Furthermore, protein localization of several high abundant adult CPs is also discussed. These results will contribute understanding cuticle formation and differentiation in insect during post-embryonic development.

        To evaluate the acute to chronic effects of crude oil exposure on hematological and blood biochemical toxicities, Sprague-Dawley rats were given oral doses of 0, 50, or 100 mg/kg BW/day of Iranian heavy crude oil for a period of four weeks. In the acute phase of exposure (one day after four weeks of oil treatment), decreases in weight of thymus, serum level of interferon gamma (IFN-γ), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase activities in liver or kidney, and increase in weight of adrenal gland occurred after oral administration of crude oil. In body weight, histopathological examination, hematological and blood biochemical analyses in the acute phase of exposure, no significant differences were observed among the experimental groups. In the subchronic and chronic phase of exposure (two months and six months after four weeks of oil treatment), the changes of biomarkers were normalized, except the indicators of oxidative stress. Our findings showed that the bioassay on the indicators of oxidative stress is a sensitive method for determining exposure to crude oil in rats.

        An infiltration technique using W-Cu composite powder has been developed to enhance microstructural uniformity of W-Cu pseudo-alloy. W-Cu composite powder, manufactured by reduction from WO3 and CuO powder mixtures, were blended with W powder and then cold iso-statically pressed into a cylindrical bar under 150 MPa. The pressed samples were pre-sintered at 1300 oC for 1 hour under hydrogen to make a skeleton structure. This skeleton structure was more homogeneous than that formed by using W and Cu powder mixtures. The skeleton structures were infiltrated with Cu under hydrogen atmosphere. The infiltrated W-Cu pseudo-alloy showed homogeneous microstructure without Cu rich region.

        A new tungsten heavy alloy with hybrid structure was manufactured for the kinetic energy penetrator. The tungsten heavy alloy is composed of two parts: core region is molybdenum added heavy alloy to promote the self-sharpening; outer part encompassing the core is conventional heavy alloy to sustain severe load in a muzzle during firing. From ballistic test, it was found that the penetration performance of the hybrid structure tungsten heavy alloy is higher than that of conventional heavy alloy. This heavy alloy is thought to be very useful for the penetrator in the near future.

        W-Cu alloy was very useful material for a heat sink, high electric contact and EDM electrode. Powder injection molding (PIM) is the optimum manufacturing technology to provide W-Cu components with low-cost and high-volume. We used various compositions of tungsten coated copper powders (W-Cu with 10 to 80 wt-% of copper) to manufacture W-Cu components by PIM. The optimum mixing, injection molding, debinding and sintering conditions to provide the high performance W-Cu components were investigated. The thermal and mechanical properties of W-Cu parts by PIM were measured. Finally, we can verify the high performance of W-Cu components by PIM with the tungsten coated copper.

        Thermal management technology is a critical element in all new chip generations, caused by a power multiplication combined with a size reduction. A heat sink, mounted on a base plate, requires the use of special materials possessing both high thermal conductivity (TC) and a coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) that matches semiconductor materials as well as certain packaging ceramics. In this study, nano tungsten coated copper powder has been developed with a wide range of compositions, 90W-10Cu to 10W-90Cu. Powder technologies were used to make samples to evaluate density, TC, and CTE. Measured TC lies among theoretical values predicted by several existing models.

        Purpose: The purpose of this study is to narrow the target down to college students representing single-person households to identify the main attributes of their choice of Home Meal Replacement(HMR) and to look at the impact on satisfaction and repurchase intentions. Research design, data and methodology: An online survey was conducted for consumers who purchased HMR products at least once and a total of 264 questionnaires were used for demonstration analysis. The collected data have verified for validity and reliability between measurement variables through exploratory factor analysis and reliability analysis. Results: As a result, curiosity, economy, safety, and brand, which are HMR selection attributes that university students’ value, have a significant impact on satisfaction, and satisfaction has a significant impact on the intention of repurchase, a variable of behavior. In addition, the adjustment effect of health value pursuit was significant only in safety attributes. Conclusions: This study divided the target group to examine what the HMR selection attributes of single-person college students are, the main consumer of HMR, and how selective attributes affect satisfaction and willingness to repurchase. In the process, we wanted to find out if there was a moderating effect on the health-oriented values in the dietary lifestyle.

        본 연구는 의원에 근무하는 방사선사의 보수교육에 관한 연구로 보수교육에 대한 만족도와 문제점을 분석하여 보수교육에서 개선하여야 할 사항을 연구하기 위해 실시하였다. 연구에 사용한 도구는 설문지로 2016년 11월 01일부터 2017년 04월30일까지 경남 창원에 소재하는 의원에 근무하는 방사선사를 대상으로 교육참석 및 방문을 통한 조사로 이루어 졌으며, 설문지 총150부를 배부하여 연구에 적합한 106부를 SPSS 18.0 통계 프로그램을 이용하여 분석하였다. 인구사회학적 특성으로는 연령, 성별, 근무경력, 학력, 근무부서로 하였으며, 보수교육에 대한 만족요인으로는 제도, 주제, 도움, 강사선택의 적절성, 전문성 등, 총 21가지 요인으로 하였으며, 보수교육의 문제점으로는 장소, 교통편, 다양성, 행정처리, 홍보, 방법 등, 총18가지 요인으로 분석하였다. 보수교육에 대한 만족도 (3.02점)와 보수교육에 대한 문제점(3.18점)은 보통수준으로 보수교육에 대한 문제점이 조금 높게 분석되었다. 보수교육은 보건의료인이면 누구나 이수해야 하는 교육이며, 보수교육 이수 시간으로 3년마다 면허 재 신고를 해야 하는 주요한 교육이다. 다양한 의료기관에 근무하는 방사선사를 대상으로 하는 보수교육은 의원에 근무하는 방사선사의 교육수준에 부합하지 못하다는 의견이 많았다. 그러므로 의원방사선사의 보수교육에 대한 만족도를 높이기 위한 방안으로 보수교육에 대한 다양한 의견과 개선사항을 현실성 있는 교육 프로그램으로 반영하여, 교육의 질적 향상을 통한 보수교육에 대한 만족도를 높여야 할 것이다.

        비침습적 치료 효과에 대한 기대로 집속 초음파를 이용한 하지정맥류 치료에 대한 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 초음파 정맥류 정맥 치료 효과 평가에 적용할 수 있는 생체 조직 팬텀과 조직 등가 팬텀을 제시 하였다. 제작된 팬텀은 음향학적 특징과 초음파 조사에 따른 수축률을 평가함으로써 유용성을 평가하였다. 하지정맥류가 발생하는 조직의 구조를 고려하여 피부, 지방, 근육의 세 층으로 된 다층 구조 팬텀을 제작하였으며, 각 층을 구성하는 물질은 인체와 유사한 특성을 갖도록 제작하였다. 또한 혈관 유사물질을 매식한 다층 구조 팬텀과 동물 혈관을 이용한 다층 구조 팬텀, 동물 조직을 이용한 다층 구조 팬텀을 제작하였으며, 초음파 조사에 따른 혈관 유사 물질 및 혈관 조직의 수축 정도를 B-mode 영상을 이용하여 평가하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 통하여 제시된 팬텀이 초음파 하지정맥류 치료 평가에 유효하게 활용될 수 있을 것으로 판단되었다. 또한, 집속 초음파를 이용한 하지정맥류 치료 장비 개발 및 치료 효과 검증에 중요한 역할을 할 것으로 판단된다.

        본 연구는 의원에 근무하는 방사선사의 복지만족요인을 분석하기 위한 연구로 복지의 만족요인과 만족 수준 및 개선해야할 사항들을 분석하기 위해 실시하였다. 연구에 사용한 도구는 설문지로 2014년 7월14일 부터 2015년 3월31일까지 경남에 소재하는 의원에 근무하는 방사선사를 대상으로 설문지 총150부를 배부 하여 연구에 적합한 130부를 SPSS 18.0 통계 프로그램을 이용하여 분석하였다. 복지에 대한 요인으로는 생 활, 금융, 교육, 의료, 문화 등을 복지요인으로 하였으며, 인구사회학적특성으로는 성별, 결혼, 학력, 연령, 근속연수를 기준으로 하였다. 복지요인별 만족수준을 살펴보면 생활복지(2.74±.65), 금융복지(2.42±.74), 교 육복지(2.24±.72), 의료복지(2.68±.69), 문화복지(2.27±.64)로 복지요인에 대한 만족수준(2.45±.59)은 평균에 미 치지 못하는 것으로 분석되었다. 의원의 특성상 복지에 대한 경영진의 인식이 부족한 점은 현실적 한계라 고 할 수 있다. 복지에 대한 의원방사선사의 만족수준을 높이기 위해서는 의원을 경영하는 의료진의 인식 의 전환과 함께 전향적인 변화가 있어야 할 것으로 판단되며, 복지에 대한 직원들의 욕구조사를 통한 효과 적인 선택적 복지를 제공하는 것이 중요하다고 볼 수 있다.

        본 연구는 경남지역에 근무하는 방사선사의 보수교육에 관한 연구로 보수교육에 대한 만족수준을 분석 하여 보수교육에 대한 만족도 및 문제점을 파악하고 개선해야할 사항을 연구하기 위해 실시하였다. 연구에 사용한 도구는 설문지로 2016년 11월 01일부터 12월 15일까지 경남에 소재하는 의료기관에 근무하는 방사 선사를 대상으로 설문지 총250부를 배부하여 연구에 적합한 200부를 SPSS 18.0 통계 프로그램을 이용하여 분석하였다. 보수교육에 대한 만족요인으로는 제도, 주제, 도움, 강사선택의 적절성, 전문성 등, 총 21가지 요인으로 하였으며, 보수교육의 문제점으로는 장소, 교통편, 다양성, 행정처리, 홍보, 방법 등, 총18가지 요 인으로 분석하였다. 보수교육에 대한 만족도 (3.12점), 보수교육에 대한 문제점(3.01점)은 보통수준으로 분 석되었다. 보수교육은 보건의료인이면 누구나 이수해야하는 교육이다. 교육에 대한 효율성과 효과성을 높 이기 위해서는 다양한 의견과 교육수준을 개선할 수 있는 노력이 뒷받침되어야 하며, 현실성 있는 교육프 로그램을 통해 자질과 역량이 우수한 방사선사를 위한 계속교육이 이루어져야 할 것이다.

        The space radiation dose over air routes including polar routes should be carefully considered, especially when space weather shows sudden disturbances such as coronal mass ejections (CMEs), flares, and accompanying solar energetic particle events. We recently established a heliocentric potential (HCP) prediction model for real-time operation of the CARI-6 and CARI-6M programs. Specifically, the HCP value is used as a critical input value in the CARI-6/6M programs, which estimate the aviation route dose based on the effective dose rate. The CARI-6/6M approach is the most widely used technique, and the programs can be obtained from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). However, HCP values are given at a one month delay on the FAA official webpage, which makes it difficult to obtain real-time information on the aviation route dose. In order to overcome this critical limitation regarding the time delay for space weather customers, we developed a HCP prediction model based on sunspot number variations (Hwang et al. 2015). In this paper, we focus on improvements to our HCP prediction model and update it with neutron monitoring data. We found that the most accurate method to derive the HCP value involves (1) real-time daily sunspot assessments, (2) predictions of the daily HCP by our prediction algorithm, and (3) calculations of the resultant daily effective dose rate. Additionally, we also derived the HCP prediction algorithm in this paper by using ground neutron counts. With the compensation stemming from the use of ground neutron count data, the newly developed HCP prediction model was improved.

        Accidents and incidents caused by poor performance in the maritime industry suggest the need to find ways to improve performance in order to operate effectively and improve safety. The data for this study was collected from maritime students and involves the performance and levels of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Various motivational factors were identified and the ways in which these factors relate to performance was analyzed. The importance of considering motivation when recruiting new trainees and workers, and continually looking for ways to increase intrinsic motivation, is stressed throughout this paper. The results suggest that high levels of good quality motivation correlate positively with better performance.
