High concentrations of PM2.5 were generated in new apartments before moving in, and PM2.5 reduction efficiencies using air cleaners and ventilation systems were evaluated. The experimental results for different air cleaner capacities showed that the PM2.5 reduction efficiencies for 46.2 m2, 66 m2, and 105.6 m2 areas were 81.7%, 92.9%, and 92.5%, respectively. Thus, the larger the air cleaning application area, the higher the PM2.5 reduction efficiency. However, there was no difference in the efficiency of overcapacity air cleaners above a certain capacity. The efficiencies of air cleaners located at the living room center, interior wall, and edge were 81.7%, 79.2%, and 75.8%, respectively. There was, therefore, no significant difference in the PM2.5 reduction efficiencies of air cleaners in different locations. Furthermore, the PM2.5 reduction efficiencies at distances of 1 m, 2 m, and 3 m were 81.7%, 81.3%, and 81.7%, respectively. Therefore, there was also no significant difference in efficiency with distance. The PM2.5 concentration decreases rapidly during natural ventilation. Therefore, when the indoor PM2.5 is higher than the outdoor PM2.5, the air cleaner should be used after natural ventilation. The efficiency of PM2.5 reduction using an air supply-type ventilation system in apartments was 35%, which is not high. The simultaneous operation of the ventilation system and kitchen range hood was effective, showing a PM2.5 reduction efficiency of 69.1%. However, a water sprayer was not effective, showing a PM2.5 reduction efficiency of 24.3%. The results of this study suggest that PM2.5 reduction performance should be standardized by evaluating the efficiency of different ventilation systems. Effective usage and maintenance standards for ventilation systems need to be disseminated, and ventilation systems and air cleaners should be used effectively.
The labeled magnitude scale (LMS) was proposed as the magnitude estimation of perceived odor intensity while the direct olfactory method is a basis of odor evaluation. Six chemicals (pyridine, ethanol, ethyl acetate, acetone, trimethylamine, and β-phenylethyl alcohol) were tested to demonstrate the limitation of the current odor intensity scale and the possibility of the alternative method. The 6-point odor intensity reference scale, which is wildly used in the field, has the inevitable limitation of the perceived magnitude of odor intensity. It has failed to express the magnitude objectively when odor intensity increased and the magnitude scale was limited. It was experimentally proven that LMS presents the function of the existing method and effectively evaluates the wide range of odor intensity.
The primary aim of this study was to analyze the fashion trend of wearing T-shirts with slogans at home and abroad and to consider the social influence of these shirts on fashion. The research method was based on the documentary method and the existing literature, and the study range was limited to the period from the middle of the 20th century to the present. Slogan T-shirts played important roles because they make the wearers highly visible wherever they go. T-shirts with slogans not only intentionally expressed the wearers’ views on multiple social issues but they also made those issues more visible, thereby encouraging society to deal with them. The T-shirts also helped to form a social consensus regarding the issues. For this reason we referred to slogan T-shirts as ‘the social fashion’ in this research. Regarding the results, the research found that T-shirts with slogans were a social fashion that conveyed real political slogans and thus influenced people’s political beliefs. Second, they politicized the issues in public interests with the public perspective. Third, the purpose of slogan T-shirts was to help people express their personality publicly and thereby bond with other people who held similar sympathies. Furthermore, the T-shirts conveyed multiple meanings in each message.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the meaning of soul fashion in American pop culture. This study was conducted using a literature research method based on the prior theses, journals and relevant books. Soul as a concept, originated in African-American communities and evolved from the ideology of Black Power, which prompted Black Nationalism. Soul fashion, which took on two styles in African American culture began to embody black resistance and community pride in the late 20th century. One of these, hip-hop style represented the message of resistance and a sense of beauty outside the mainstream. The other, African–inspired fashion, which utilized a look inspired by African tradition, rejected white supremacy by expressing a proud dignity. As a result, the meaning of “soul” in soul fashion represented by American pop culture resulted in contrasting appearance due to different elements. First, one of its meanings is ironic and sarcastic, and it expressed historical trauma, cultural stereotypes, self-hatred, and self-degradation and, the self-mutilation of African-American by cynically distorting their silhouettes and, using modified materials and patterns, fantastic colors, and extraordinary accessories. Second, the other meanings is the pride and dignity of Black Power, which visualized the concentration of ideas implied by the tradition of African-American, through soul fashion by using fierce traditional of African costumes, unique patterns and accessories.
Nesfatin-1, an anorexic nucleobindin-2 (NUCB2)-derived hypothalamic peptide, controls appetite and energy metabolism. Recent studies show that nesfatin-1/NUCB2 is expressed not only in the brain but also in gastric and adipose tissues. Thus, we investigated the distributions of nesfatin-1/NUCB2 in various tissues of male and female mice by real-time PCR, western blotting, and immunohistochemical staining. Real-time PCR analyses showed that NUCB2 mRNA was predominantly expressed in the pituitary and at lower levels in the hypothalamus, spleen, thymus, heart, liver, and muscle of both male and female mice. Expression was much higher in reproductive organs, such as the testis, epididymis, ovary, and uterus, than in the hypothalamus. Western blot analysis of the nesfatin-1 protein level showed similar results to the real-time PCR analyses in both male and female mice. These results suggest that nesfatin-1/NUCB2 have widespread physiological effects in endocrine and non-endocrine organs. In addition, immunohistochemical staining revealed that nesfatin-1 was localized in interstitial cells, including Leydig cells and in the columnar epithelium of the epididymis. Nesfatin-1 was also expressed in theca cells and interstitial cells in the ovary and in epithelial cells of the endometrium and uterine glands in the uterus. These results suggest that nesfatin-1 is a novel potent regulator of steroidogenesis and gonadal function in male and female reproductive organs. Further studies are required to elucidate the functions of nesfatin-1 in various organs of male and female mice.
흉부 CT와 같이 조직 대조도 차이가 큰 부위의 CT 검사도 환자의 팔의 위치에 따른 아티팩트 발생과 화질저하, 과다피폭 등을 방지하기 위하여 환자의 손을 머리 위로 올리고 검사를 시행하고 있다. 흉부 CT와 같이 조직 대조도 차이가 큰 부위의 검사에서 환자 팔의 위치에 따라 화질저하, 과다피폭 등이 발생한다. 2012년 서울의 K 대학병원 흉부 CT 검사는 1,642건이었다. 이중 118건이 팔을 올리지 않고 흉부 CT검사를 시행하였다. 정상적으로 팔을 올리고 검사한 그룹은 총 DLP 값의 평균이 275 mGy․cm로 나타났으며 팔을 올리지 않고 검사한 그룹의 총 DLP값 평균은 312.46 mGy․cm로 나타났다. 동일 환자의 경우 후향적 조사에서 적극적으로 팔을 올리고 검사한 경우 총 DLP 값이 267.5 mGy․cm로 조사되었고 팔을 올리지 않고 검사한 경우 총 DLP 값이 307.5 mGy․cm로 나타났다. 흉부 CT 검사에서 검사자가 적극적으로 팔을 올리지 않고 검사하면 인체의 가장 두꺼운 부위인 어깨부위를 통과한 X-ray 광자의 부족으로 인해 선형 아티팩트가 발생하였다. 흉부 CT 검사시 적극적으로 팔을 올려서 검사하는 노력으로 적은 피폭선량과 양질의 의료영상을 환자에게 제공할 수 있는 선량 최적화의 방법이 될 것이다.
Recent study showed that T cells in the immune organs and peripheral blood are influenced by estradiol, leading to a dysfunction of the immune system. However, little is known about the thymic-gonadal relationship during the estrous cycle in mouse. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to elucidate the mechanism by which a change in estradiol levels during the estrous cycle regulates the development of T cells in the mouse thymus. Six-week-old ICR mice were used and divided into four groups, including diestrous, proestrous, estrous, and metestrous. We first confirmed that ER-α and - β estrogen receptors were expressed in thymic epithelial cells, showing that their expression was not different during the estrous cycle. There was also no significant difference in thymic weight and total number of thymocytes during the estrous cycle. To determine the degree of thymocyte differentiation during the estrous cycle, we analyzed thymocytes by flow cytometry. As a result, the percentage of CD4+CD8+ double-positive (DP) T cells was significantly decreased in the proestrous phase compared to the diestrous phase. However, CD4+CD8- or CD4-CD8+ (SP) T cells were significantly increased in the proestrous phase compared to the diestrous phase. In addition, the percentage of CD44+CD25- (DN1) T cells was significantly decreased in the estrous phase compared to other phases, whereas the percentages of CD44+CD25+ (DN2), CD44-CD25+ (DN3), and CD44-CD25- (DN4) were not changed during the estrous cycle. These results indicate that the development of thymocytes may arrest in the DP to SP transition stage in the proestrous phase displaying the highest serum level of estradiol. This study suggests that a change in estradiol levels during the estrous cycle may be involved in the regulation of thymocyte differentiation in the mouse thymus.
현재의 방사선응용기술 및 원자력에너지는 국가와 민족을 불문하고 인류의 생활에 있어서 그 역할이 매우 중요하다. 그럼에도 불구하고 우리나라의 경우 일반인의 잘못된 인식으로 인해 국가적 사업의 시행이나 기술개 발에 많은 어려움을 겪고 있다. 이에 일반인의 올바른 인식변화가 매우 중요하다고 할 것이다. 본 연구에서는 방사선에 관한 전문적 지식이 거의없는 대학생을 대상으로 방사선에 대한 교육 및 체험을 실시하고 그들의 인 식이 긍정적으로 변화됨을 보였다.
