        This study examines earthquake-induced sloshing effects on liquid storage tanks using computation fluid dynamics. To achieve this goal, this study selects an existing square steel tank tested by Seismic Simulation Test Center at Pusan National University as a case study. The model validation was firstly performed through the comparison of shaking table test data and simulated results for the water tank subjected to a harmonic excitation. For a realistic estimation of the wall pressure response of the water tank, three recorded earthquakes with similar peak ground acceleration are applied:1940 El Centro earthquake, 2016 Gyeongju earthquake, and 2017 Pohang earthquake. Wall pressures monitored during the dynamic analyses are examined and compared for different earthquake motions and monitoring points, using power spectrum density. Finally, the maximum dynamic pressure for three earthquakes is compared with the design pressure calculated from a seismic design code. Results indicated that the maximum pressure from the El Centro earthquake exceeds the design pressure although its peak ground acceleration is less than 0.4 g, which is the design acceleration. On the other hand, the maximum pressure due to two Korean earthquakes does not reach the design pressure. Thus, engineers should not consider only the peak ground acceleration when determining the design pressure of water tanks.

        The purpose of the study was to investigate the immediate effects of negative pressure soft tissue therapy on muscle tone, muscle stiffness and balance in patients with stroke. In total, 20 patients with stroke and assigned to the negative pressure soft tissue therapy group (NPST, n=10) or, placebo-negative pressure soft tissue therapy group(Placebo-NPST, n=10). Both groups underwent NPST or placebo-NPST once a day during the experimental period. MyotonPRO was used to assess the parameters for muscle tone and stiffness. Biorescue was used to assess the parameters for balance. Each group showed improvements in muscle tone, muscle stiffness, and balance ability (p<.05). Especially, Muscle tone, muscle stiffness, and anterior length in the limit of stability were the significant improvement on NPST group (p<.05). The results of the study suggest that the NPST is effective in improving muscle tone, muscle stiffness, and balance ability in patients with stroke.

        The investigation on the lightweight of automobiles has been underway in commercial vehicles as well as passenger cars due to global warming and strengthening of European emission standards. In this study, the V-arm were developed for lightweight parts using aluminum alloy instead of steel with high pressure die casting processing. This study has focused on lightweight adaptive concept design. Several models of V-arm were designed and analyzed for the fluidity and solidification. V-arm was produced with ADC12 by high pressure die-casting process. The mechanical properties of developed V-arm were measured; such as tensile strength, elongation, shear strength, and durability. The possibility of mass production with the light weight aluminum V-arm substitute from the steel. The weight was reduced about 38% from 16kg to 9.98kg. The productivity was improved with decreasing the process from 8 to 5 by All-in-0ne process using high pressure die-casting.

        Using a high pressure homonizer, we report on the electrochemical performance of Li4Ti5O12(LTO) particles manufactured as anode active material for lithium ion battery. High-pressure synthesis processing is performed under conditions in which the mole fraction of Li/Ti is 0.9, the synthesis pressure is 2,000 bar and the numbers of passings-through are 5, 7 and 10. The observed X-ray diffraction patterns show that pure LTO is manufactured when the number of passings-through is 10. It is found from scanning electron microscopy analysis that the average size of synthesized particles decreases as the number of passings-through increases. LiCoO2-based active cathode materials are used to fabricate several coin half/full cells and their battery characteristics such as lifetime, rate capability and charge transfer resistance are then estimated, revealing quite good electrochemical performance of the LTO particles as an effective anode active material for lithium secondary batteries.

        Unlike other types of outdoor advertisements, rooftop signboards are installed on the roofs of buildings, rather than on their outer walls. This means that the area of a rooftop signboard is commonly larger than that of a general outdoor signboard. Moreover, as such signboards are greatly influenced by the wind, they can suffer a lot of damage from typhoons and strong winds every year. However, there is no wind load specification for rooftop signboards. In this study, wind pressure experiments were conducted to investigate the peak wind pressure on each side of rooftop signboards installed on the roofs of 5–15 story buildings in a city center. The minimum peak wind pressure coefficient was –3.0 at the bottom edges of the front and back of the rooftop signboards and –2.0 along the entire length of the sides . As the height of the rooftop signboard increased with the increasing height of the buildings, the peak value was found to be larger than the absolute peak value for the minimum peak wind pressure coefficient. The maximum and minimum peak wind pressure distributions of the rooftop outdoor signboards were influenced by the position of the signboard and the wind angle.

        Various pilotis are installed in the lower part of high rise buildings. Strong winds can generate sudden airflow around the pilotis, which can cause unexpected internal airflow changes and may cause damage to the exterior of the piloti ceiling. The present study investigates the characteristics of peak wind pressure coefficient for the design of piloti ceiling exteriors by conducting wind pressure tests on high rise buildings equipped with penetration-type and end-type pilotis in urban and suburban areas. The minimum peak wind pressure coefficient for penetration-type piloti ceilings ranges from –2.0 to -3.3. Minimum peak wind pressure coefficient in urban areas was 30% larger than in suburban areas. In end-type piloti ceilings, maximum peak wind-pressure coefficient ranges from 0.5 to 1.9, and minimum peak wind-pressure coefficient ranges from – 1.3 to -3.6. With changes in building height, peak wind pressure coefficient decreases as the aspect ratio increases. Peak wind-pressure coefficient increases with taller pilotis. On the other hand, when piloti height decreases, the absolute value of the minimum peak wind pressure coefficient increases.

        The purposes of this study was to investigate the effect of high pressure processing (HPP) on a sterilization and microbiological shelf-life of commercial beef patties by varying the pressure level (200, 300, 400, and 500 MPa), treatment time (0-10 min), and storage period (0-16 day at 4oC). The HPP treatment of 200 MPa were ineffective, however the treatment of 300, 400, and 500 MPa reduced the bacterial count by 0.61-1.16, 1.11-1.69, and 2.73-3.86 log (CFU/g), respectively. During 16 days of storage, the viable cell numbers in beef patties treated with 400 and 500 MPa were substantially lower than those in the non-treated control. The control count reached 6.6 log CFU/g after 16 days at 4oC, but after the same storage time, the counts in HPP-treated samples of 400 and 500 MPa were 4.7 and 3.1 log CFU/g, respectively. After an HPP treatment of 200-500 MPa, the pH values were approximately 5.83-6.28. During the 16 days of storage, the pH values in the samples of 400-500 MPa were maintained at initial levels throughout the storage period, regardless of treatment time for HPP.

        One of the most performed actionin daily life is standing up from sitting position. As the population of the world is aging at the high rates, people may face problems with reduced muscle strength as well as psychological changes. This can lead elderly people having difficulties with standing up from chair. Now, with the aging trend worldwide, products are being developed that can support the lives of the elderly. This study examines the distribution of hip pressure in relation to the seating positions of the standing assistance seats under development to prevent standing up accidents in older adults. The currently developing standing assistant chair designed to tilt to a maximum angle of 25 degrees. At over 25°, design considers that older people are at risk of thrown back out of that force and that the forces exerted on their arms and legs can be a significant burden to older people. By considering danger of higher than 25° for older people which is experimented in the basis of static capturing approach in previous papers, it is experimented people with age group of 20~60 on 0° to 25° tilting angle on the basis of dynamic capturing method in order to pick convenient angle of inclination. Moreover, tried to find the optimum angle by comparing the hip pressure distribution when seated at the edge of the seat and at the center of the seat with the pressure distribution sensor.

        본 연구는 다국적 기업의 친환경 연구개발 (R&D)의 결정요인과 이 결정요인들이 이해관계자들이 행사하는 압력에 의해 어떻게 조절되는지에 관한 연구이다. ASSET4 데이터베이스를 활용해 2004년부터 2012년까지 1,674개의 글로벌 다국적 기업들에 속하는 15,025개의 관측치들을 대상으로 연구한 결과, 기업의 환경 관련 평판이 낮을수록, 그리고 보상체계가 장기적 성향을 띨수록 친환경 R&D의 성과가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 온실가스 배출량이 많은 산업에서 활동하는 기업들의 경우 배출권 거래제에 참여하게 되면 친환경 R&D의 성과가 더욱 높은 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 지리적 다각화의 정도가 높은 다국적 기업의 경우 배출권 거래제에 참여할 경우 친환경 R&D의 성과가 낮은 것으로 나타났으며, 이는 현재 시행되고 있는 배출권 거래제도의 유효성에 한계가 있음을 시사한다고 할 수 있다.

        The objectives of this study were to characterize the physicochemical properties of ginger (Zingiber officinale Rosc.) and the optimum extract processing condition to increase the solubilization efficiency of 6-gingerol and polysaccharides disintegration. The physicochemical properties were investigated under high-pressure enzyme (HP) and enzyme (WB) treatment conditions such as reaction time (1, 2, 3 h), pressure (50, 70, 100 MPa) and sample types, and cell wall degradation enzyme (hemicellulase, cellulase, pectinase, glucosidase, etc.) The effect of high-pressure enzyme treatment depending on sample types was significantly highest in the freeze-dried ginger powder. The optimum condition for high-pressure enzyme treatment was with Pectinex Ultra SP-L (Pec) enzymes for 2 h at 50oC and 100 MPa. Water soluble indexes increased 4.6 and 3.8 times more compared to CON (15.35%) while total polyphenol contents increased by 1.8 and 1.7 times compared to CON (1.43%). The total contents of indicator components such as 6, 8, 10-gingerol and shogaol was 1.53%, increasing 2.7 times more compared to CON (0.57%) with a significant difference (p<0.001). The high-pressure and enzymatic approach described in this study would be beneficial to food industries for developing ginger functional product and materials.

        Mercury is known as harmful element and significant negative effect on human and living creatures. The current study investigates the effective removal of toxic mercury from aqueous solution by reverse osmosis with low pressure. The various operating conditions as concentration, time and pressure used for the rejection study. The rejection study carried out in both terms as adsorption and pore size for long term (48 h) and achieved 99% mercury rejection. Further, the fouling propensity of membranes was studied and the fouling layer formed on the surface of the membranes was analyzed by the AFM imaging and the flux recovery ratio of the membranes was also calculated. The compatibility, thermal stability, hydrophilicity, surface energy, and morphology of the membranes were systematically investigated.

        In pressure retarded osmosis (PRO) process, thin film composite (TFC) type membranes which can withstand high operating pressure are required. In this study, glass fibers (GF) are used as additive for mechanical strength enhancement of the support layer of TFC membranes. The support layers were fabricated by a phase inversion method by using the casting solution of blended GF (two different size of milled GF) with polyethersulfone (PES). The fabricated support layers were characterized by FE-SEM, FT-IR, contact angle goniometer, and universal testing machine. Lab-scale ultrafiltration experiment was carried out to measure their performance. As a result, the support layer with milled GF showed higher mechanical strength and water flux than the pure PES support layer, and the support layer with smaller size GF showed higher performance.

        압력-분배 탈기방식으로 막접촉기를 구성하여 바이오가스 정제를 하였다. 폴리프로필렌(PP) 중공사막 모듈과 물리흡수제를 이용하여 막접촉기 성능 평가를 수행하였다. 실험은 흡수 압력, 가스의 유량, 흡수 온도 및 흡수제의 농도등 다양한 조건에서 수행하였다. 특히 CO2 흡수능이 높은 상용 흡수제인 프로필렌카보네이트(PC)와 물의 혼합흡수제를 사용하여 회수성능이 향상되었다. 탈기 방법이 개선된 압력-분배 탈기방식의 막접촉기는 50% CO2/50% CH4의 바이오가스 모사가스로부터 바이오메탄을 98% CH4 순도와 91%의 회수율로 정제하였다. 따라서 압력-분배 막접촉기를 통해 바이오가스로부터 수송용 바이오메탄의 생산이 가능함을 확인하였다.

        정삼투막(Forward osomosis, FO) 공정은 차세대 해수담수화 기술 중 하나이 다. FO 공정은 운영에너지나 막오염의 장점에도 불구하고 유도용액의 분리회수 등의 문제로 실증화 단계에 어려움이 있다. 따라서 현재 FO 공정에 대해서는 FO를 단독으로 사용하기보다 RO 전단에 FO 공정을 두어 이용하는 hybrid 시스 템으로 이용하려는 연구가 많이 진행되고 있다. 본 연구는 유도용액의 분리회수 가 필요하지 않은 FO-RO 공정에서의 성능 지표 중 하나인 투과유량을 늘리기 위해 공정 운전 조건 중 유도용액의 유량변화에 따른 성능을 평가하였다.

        Pressure-retarded osmosis (PRO) is one of the promising candidates to reduce the reliance on fossil fuels by harnessing energy from the salinity gradient between high-saline and low-saline water. Based on recent advances in the membrane technologies, PRO has re-emerged as a potentially viable energy option. However, several challenges still remain before PRO can reach the commercial stage. Within this context, the objective of this research was to assess the techno-economic feasibility of PRO and PRO-hybrid processes. In particular, model-based performance analysis were conducted for the PRO-hybrid systems. In addition, the influence of colloidal fouling on the performance of PRO process was further investigated. It is expected that this research would help comprehensively understand the PRO-hybrid processes thereby activate further development.
